FashionParties And Fashion, Back In Di Day, Share Your Memories. by Orilee9ice(op): 5:33pm On Dec 17, 2009
Hey peeps, what are your memories of Happening parties back in the day, Late/end of 70's, 1980's to Early 90's in the era of Shalamar, Whispers, Kool and the Gang, when music was music and the lyrics had meaning, like the Love Jams, Love zone (Billy Ocean) Shake you down and Ill prove it to you starting tonite (Gregory Abbott) Love aint no Holiday(Native) Holiday (Madonna) Love x Love (George Benson) Tonite is the nite(Heatwave) and (Candi Staton) Gonna Get you home with me tonite (Eugene Wilde) Love's Coming at ya(Melba Moore) Push it in the grovve, Call it what ever you want (Bill Summers), the list is endless, NOT LIKE THE "ORI WON FOKASIBE" that we have now,

The Shows at the NATIONAL THEATRE (All the uk/usa artises that Ben BRUCE brought over then)

Who also remembers the nite klubs we had to be seen at, Lords (Maryland) Niteshift (Opebi Road) Faze2(Yaba) Paradiso (Alagomeji-Yaba)

The Uni-Parties @ Unilag, Costech, Yabatech, LASU, LACOED, etc, and all the Beauty Contests, Miss Campus, Mr HANDSOME (i won one of them!, i am born again now sha!!)
of course in all the other states in 9ja too, Unife, Unibadan, all the Polys, the Jeans CARNIVAL @ the Ogun State Polytechnic,

Weekend Choice on Lagos TELEVISION (WITH TOKUNBO BAKARE) she was always at all the happening parties interviewing, The era of 21st Birthday Parties too!! when you were 21, you had to have a party or else,

Fashion: Away itele's and baffs, Brothers Johnson Glasses and Hair cut, flat tops, Ray Parker hair style (side faded and high flat tops - Wella straight and Glatt relaxers, to "jerry curl or Wave"our hair, no wonder i dont have any hair anymore, grin) Pencil Skirts Tiny waists, and Slip on for the girls, OMG , SHOULDER-PADS (remember MILLI VANILLI), we all wore their jackets then, and Joan Collins in DYNASTY, Any fashion TRENDS/MISTAKES on the Musical video shows, and we wore it by the end of that week,

Men! we Rocked!!! and still passed with flying colours! Fail keee!!, God Forbid!! and got home on time too, or its "get out of my house", still wondered how we did it though, Co'mon my people, lets go down memory lane! anyone out there to share,

What a great story, A great story,
For man to leave this world, and follow God
Man to make a friend, with the Lord Jesus
What a great story, great story, Haleluyah!

Jesus is the sweetest name i know
He's always just the same, Oh praise his holy name
That is the reason why i love him sooooooooooooooooo
Jesus is the sweetest name i know,

In Trouble,
In Sickness,

Trials spread on every side, and we cannot understand
All the way the LORD WILL LEAD US TO THE BLESSED promised land
He will Guide us with his hands, and we follow till we die
We shall understand it better, by and By

Chorus:
By and By when the morning comes
When the saints of God have gathered home
He shall tell the sto-ry, Who we overcame
We shall understand it better by and by,

We used to go to Scriputre Union Meetings and Parties then, (SHOUTING, SU Meeting, Room 5)!

School Assembly

Children of our heavenly king,
as we jolly sweetly sing
sing our saviou's worthy praise
Glorious in his works and ways

We are travelling home to God
In the ways our father trod
They are happy now and we
And we soon will follow thee

-------------------------------------

God whose name is love
Happy children we,
Listen to the hymns that we sing to thee

Help us to be Good
Always Kind and true
in the games we play or the work we do

Bless us everyone
singing here to thee
God whose name is love
Happy may we be

----------------------------------

Rock of Ages Cleft for me
Let me hide myself in thee,
Let the waters and thy blood
From thy riverside which flows
Be of sin the double cure
Clense me from its guilt and power,

there were some hymns we knew off head then that we didnt need to open any songs of Praise,

Imoortal. Invisible GOD ONLY WISE,
In lightling assessible hid from our eyes
Most blessed most glorious the ancient of days
Almighty , Victorious, thy great name we praise,

Oh those good ol'days,

on a lighter mood, read this and laugh.God Bless you as you do so, LOL

There was a feud between the Pastor in charge, the Choir and Choir Director of Goodnews Gospel Church ,

It seems the first hint of trouble came when the Pastor in charge preached on 'Attendance & Dedication to Service ' and the Choir Director chose to sing:
'I Shall Not Be Moved'.

Trying to believe it was a coincidence, the Pastor in charge put the incident behind him.

The next practice, he preached on 'Love and Giving.' Quoting 2nd Corinthians Chp 13 verses 1 to the end, and got some of the choir members to read each verses, Afterwards, the choir, squirmed IN DELIGHT as the director led them in the hymn: 'Jesus Paid It All'. By this time, the Pastor in charge was losing his temper. And changed his special number to “In the midst of Faults and Failures, STAND BY ME! during offering time. To which the choir director replied by changing his closing song to “Lean on me” which the choir sang with so much emphasis.

Sunday morning attendance swelled as word got round and the tension between all involved, built. A large crowd showed up the next week to hear the choir sing and the pastor of the church sensing where this was going, preached on 'The Sin of Gossiping.' To quell any gossiping in the Church

Would you believe the Choir Director selected the song: 'I Love To Tell The Story'.

There was no turning back. The following Sunday the Pastor in charge told the choir that unless something changed, he was considering resignation. The entire choir sang their praises to connect heaven when the Choir Director led them in: 'Why Not Tonight'?

Truthfully, no one was surprised when the Pastor in charge resigned a week later, explaining that Jesus had led him there and Jesus was leading him away.

The Choir Director could not resist: 'What A Friend We Have In Jesus.' and God is good, he has done US well, oh Ours souls rise up and praise the Lord , He has done it for us, He has done it for us, what others can not do he has done it for us for Offering and Thanksgiving.

While the congregation, glad that this feud was now over and they could return to normal worship, replied with “Praise the Lord OH SING OH SING OH praise the Lord”!
