What I heard about the New Minimum Wage is heartbreaking. That we'll have to wait longer than anticipated.

What is the right to an adequate standard of living? Everyone has the right to an adequate standard of living including adequate food, water and housing and to the continuous improvement of living conditions.
MUST IT BE ABOUT THE POLITICIANS ALONE?

MINIMUM WAGE COMMITTEE TO RECONVENE MID-APRIL

The 37-member tripartite committee on minimum wage set up by the Federal Government will reconvene mid-April to continue further negotiations and consultations on the new minimum wage expected to be announced by President Bola Tinubu on May 1, 2024.

The committee had received the reports of zonal public hearings held across the six geo-political zones of the country between Wednesday, March 27, 2024 and Thursday, March 28, 2024.

The minimum wage to be unveiled is expected to cushion the effects of the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit.

During the public hearings, different zones had suggested different amounts for minimum wage.

The South West zone had suggested N794,000; the North East proposed N560,000 as minimum wage; North West proposed N485,000; the North Central proposed N709,000; South South demanded N850,000 while the South East demanded N540,000.

MY TAKE: They should work out the average of the above proposals and make it the bench mark. My opinion.

When someone came here to say there's an underground plan to forestall some payment of the 100k so they can take some to share amongst themselves some persons were attacking the person, calling him/her names.

Sometimes I wonder if everyone here is a teacher, the way some of you attack and use names on people is appalling.

Real teachers are understanding, bearing, tolerant and accommodating.

If you don't like an update why not Waka pass than attack the poster like vicious do.gs.

Always expecting to hear just the positive news shows lack of growth because we live in a world where both the good and the bad news are existing side by side and we should be use to it by now at this age.

Maturity is truly not by age.

Any news or update about this job should be given, whether good or bad. This is why this thread was created, else the caption would have been different. We should stop discouraging people from giving us update, whether good or bad. No one is a kid here. Waka pass if you no like the post, no be by force to comment.

For those who have been giving us updates (whether good or bad) concerning this job, I just want to say we (I and those who want to hear it all, whether good or bad) truly appreciate you. God bless you for telling us what you hear, rumour or no rumour. It's really helping a lot of us to stay guided. Please don't be discouraged because of the few vicious ones amongst us.

I also wish those who have not yet gotten their own share of the 100k, God's timely intervention. As He's able to break all barriers, may He come through in your case ijn amen

WE WILL DO MORE FOR WORKERS BEYOND PROMOTION, CHRISTMAS BONUS - GOV. FUBARA.

...Labour declares unwavering support.

Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara says the friendly leadership of the organised labour in the State engenders mutual cooperation and his administration is committed to do more for workers beyond implementing promotions and Christmas bonus.

Sir Fubara spoke when he received thousands of jubilant Civil servants who thronged the Government House gate, Port Harcourt with their leadership and some members of the organised labour on a thank you and solidarity march on Friday.

Represented by the Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, Governor Fubara said the sum of one hundred thousand naira (N100,000.00) given as Christmas bonus to each civil servant is unprecedented and far exceed monthly salary of some workers.

He explained that the gesture represents the commitment of the administration to make workers know that they are important partners and must be properly appreciated while motivating them to be more productive.

"Within this few months of the governor being in office, promotion has been made and reflected in salary, rehabilitation work has been done at the State Secretariat Complex to provide a good working environment for workers.

"All these are possible because the leadership of labour in Rivers State is friendly. They have been supportive of every government activity."

Reading the statement jointly signed by the Rivers State chairman of the joint negotiation council, Comrade Chuku Emecheta, State Chairperson of Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Ikechukwu Onyefuru, the Rivers State Chairperson of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Alex Agwanwor said the current political crisis poses potential threats to stability, and good governance as being provided by Governor Fubara.

According to him: "the Congress unanimously pledged to accord all the necessary support to the government of Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the Executive Governor of Rivers State to deliver the dividends of democracy for the prosperity of our members and good people of Rivers State."

Comrade Agwanwor also said that the "organised labour wishes to appreciate His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for
his magnanimity in the recent promotions, including the payment of a record breaking One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000,) Christmas bonus set by the administration of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Odili that gave civil servants Twenty Thousand (N20,000) during his administration.

"His Excellency's humane and kind disposition to Rivers State Civil servants and his passion to uplift the fortunes of Rivers people is unparalleled. We strongly assure Your Excellency of our unflinching support and co-operations at all times," he added.

Boniface Onyedi.

I Tire With This Kind of Farewell Speech by the Out-Going President Buhari.
Come to think of it:
On May 29, 2015, when President Goodluck Jonathan handed over the Presidency of Nigeria to General Buhari, the nation's Gross Domestic Product was $509.9. Please do not take my word for it. Verify it by yourself. In 2023, as General Buhari prepares to hand over the Presidency to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, our Gross Domestic Product is an estimated $450 billion.

From the above, General Buhari's statement in his so-called farewell broadcast to the nation, in which he said, “I am confident that I am leaving office with Nigeria better in 2023 than in 2015", is a very provocative and blatant lie.

In 2015, we only had a national security threat from Boko Haram. Today, we have national existential threats from Boko Haram, bandits; and unknown gunmen, amongst others.

In 2015, the Naira was ₦199 to $1. Today, it is ₦750 to $1. In 2015, our total foreign debt was $10.7 billion. Today, it is almost $50 billion.

In 2015, Nigeria was 136 in Transparency International's Corruption Perception Index. In 2023, we are 150.

So, precisely in what area of our national life has Buhari made 'Nigeria better in 2023 than in 2015'?

The only thing we can now say to General Buhari is that you were a mistake, and may you go and may your like NEVER return to power to afflict us again. In Jesus Name, I pray.

Ekwem Douglas CHIEF MORGAN TOM-WEST and SIMINALAYI FUBARA IN LEGAL BATTLE FOR THE PDP GOVERNORSHIP TICKET.
----- Court to deliver judgement 4th Nov. 2022.

All may not be over in the Rivers state governorship primary of the Peoples' Democratic party (PDP) EVEN as the PARTY INAUGURATE HER CAMPAIGN COUNCIL ON MONDAY. THIS IS DUE TO THE LEGAL BATTLE BETWEEN CHIEF MORGAN TOM WEST AND MR. SIMINALAYI FUBARA, AS THE duo engaged on validity of candidature for the party. MANY ARE NOT AWARE THAT
Chief Morgan Tom West has approached the Court through his Lawyer, Ibrahim Idaye, ESQ seeking for the disqualification of Mr Siminalayi Fubara on GROUNDS THAT THE PDP GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE IS NOT QUALIFIED TO CONTEST THE PDP GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARY OF 25TH MAY 2022 BECAUSE HE IS NOT A MEMBER OF PDP AND DID NOT HAVE A VALID PDP MEMBERSHIP CARD. CHIEF TOM WEST FURTHER alleged THAT SIMINALAYI FUBARA ALTERED A PDP membership card of ONE FUBARA JOSEPH WITH DELETED SIGNATURES OF NATIONAL SECRETARY AND THE NATIONAL ORGANISING SECRETARY, AND WRONGLY PRESENTED SAME TO THE Peoples'Democratic party AS HIS, IN breach of THE party constitution AS PROVIDED IN CHAPTER 2 PART 1 SECTION 8 (7). CHIEF TOM WEST ALSO ALLEGED IN THE ORIGINATING SUMMONS FILED ON THE 7TH JUNE 2022 THAT THE PDP CANDIDATE MR. SIMINIALAYI FUBARA LIED on oath about HIS retirement DATED 11TH APRIL 2022 AS THE ACCOUNTANT GENERAL OF RIVERS STATE. CHIEF MORGAN TOM WEST FURTHER ALLEGED THAT SIMINALAYI FUBARA LIED ON OATH THAT SIMINALAYI FUBARA ATTENDED COMPREHENSIVE SECONDARY SCHOOL PORT HARCOURT AND OPOBO PRIMARY SCHOOL OPOBO TOWN. MORE SO, CHIEF TOM WEST ALLEGED THAT THE PDP CANDIDATE NEVER PARTICIPATED IN THE GUBERNATORIAL PRIMARY IN THE 1ST PLACE HAVING NOT BOUGHT THE PDP GUBERNATORIAL NOMINATION AND EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FORMS TO CONTEST THE PRIMARY ELECTION OF 25TH MAY 2022.
In an originating summons in suit No: PHC/ABJ/CS/818/2022, filed by the plaintiff counsel, BARR. Ibrahim Idaye in the Federal High Court 5 Port Harcourt, pursuant to section 177c OF THE 1999 CONSTITUTION AS AMENDED, SECTION 84 (14) of the Electoral Act, 2022, Order 3 Rule 6 and 7 of the Federal High Court (civil Procedure Rules), 2019, Chief Morgan Tom West (plaintiff) is asking the court to determine whether Mr SIMINALAYI FUBARA, validly emerged as the winner of the governorship primary election held on 25th May, 2022, with regards to PDP Gubernatorial primary election guidelines as mandated by section 84 (cool of the Electoral Act.
The plaintiff CHIEF MORGAN TOM WEST IS seeking the court to determine whether by the provisions of sections 177(c), 182 (1) (g) of the 1999 constitution as Amended, and section 84 (11) and (12) of the Electoral Act and Chapter 2 Part 1, section 8 (7) of the PDP constitution, the 1st Defendant MR. SIMINALAYI FUBARA can validly contest in the 25th May, 2022 Rivers state Gubernatorial primary election held at Obi Wali Cultural Centre, Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
CHIEF TOM WEST is ALSO praying the court for an Order to disqualify Mr Siminalayi Fubara as the RIVERS STATE governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party for alleged alteration of the Party's membership card BELONGING TO ONE FUBARA JOSEPH

CHIEF TOM WEST CLAIMED THAT CHAPTER 2 PART 1 SECTION 8 (7) OF The PDP CONSTITUTION CLEARLY STATED THAT THE membership card OF THE PARTY shall be produced by the National Headquarters and authenticated by the National Chairman and the National Secretary. THAT SIMPLY MEANS ANY PDP MEMBERSHIP CARD WITHOUT THE SIGNATURES OF THE NATIONAL CHAIRMAN AND NATIONAL SECRETARY IS FORGED, INVALID, NULL AND VOID. AND THAT THE PDP GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE MR. SIMINALAYI FUBARA PDP MEMBERSHIP CARD PRESENTED TO BOTH PDP AND INEC IS FAKE AND INVALID.
Given THE ABOVE, the plaintiff is praying the court for an Order to disqualify the 1st Defendant for allegedly lying on Oath about his resignation or retirement from the STATE CIVIL SERVICE, adding that the Affidavit sworn by MR. SIMINIALAYI FUBARA THAT HE retired on 11th April, 2022 OFFENDED RELEVANT SECTIONS OF THE 1999 CONSTITUTION, THE ELECTORAL ACT 2022 AND THE PDP GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION GUIDELINES.
The Defendants in the matter are Siminalayi Fubara, PDP, INEC, PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu and the Chairman of the Committee that conducted the guber primary in Rivers state, Prof. Walter Mboto.
While claiming to have retired from the state civil service on April 11, 2022, MR. SIMINALAYI FUBARA on September 5th and 20th signed an official documents as the Accountant- General of Rivers State, a move CHIEF TOM WEST CLAIMED VIOLATED THE 1999 CONSTITUTION AND THE ELECTORAL ACT.

From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja and Chioma Okezie Okeh

Federal Government, yesterday, announced fresh COVID-19 guidelines detailing regulations, restrictions and protocols aimed at checking the resurgence of the pandemic.

Among them are closure of most public places and social events, including religious, occupational and recreational activities. It also directed all staff on GL.12 and below to stay at home for the next five weeks while schools are to remain shut until January 18. All persons above the age of 60yrs and/or with comorbidities are to be encouraged to stay at home and avoid crowds while all non-essential travels – both domestic and international during the holiday season are seriously discouraged.

Chairman and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha, told the media that President Muhammadu Buhari has authorised the decisions.

He explained that Buhari had directed state governments, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to immediately assume responsibility for the enforcement of the re-introduced restrictions and measures.

This is even as he disclosed that his family members that tested positive to COVID-19 is a one-year-old and his four of his children.

The SGF who described the past one week as be traumatic, reiterated earlier warnings that the youthful population were not exempted from being infected with the virus.

The PTF chairman said recent Epidemiology records confirmed that “Nigeria is now facing a rise in confirmed COVID-19 cases nationwide which is similar to the second wave of infections occurring in other countries across the world. Particularly, Lagos, Kaduna and the FCT have emerged as the new epicentres during this period, with over 70% of all confirmed cases.”

“In line with the authorisation, the PTF wishes to issue the following advisories to sub-national entities for implementation over the next five weeks because these activities are considered super spreader events: Close All bars, night clubs, pubs and event centres, and recreational venues; Close all restaurants except those providing services to hotel residents; takeaways, home deliveries and drive-ins shall remain closed; Restrict all informal and formal festivity events including weddings, conferences, congresses, office parties, concerts, seminars, sporting activities, end of year events shall be restricted to not more than 50 persons; Limit All gatherings linked to religious events to less than 50% capacity of the facility of use during which physical distancing; mandatory use of face masks shall be strictly enforced; Where more than 50 persons are attending, any such events, the gathering should be held outdoors only; Public transportation systems are to carry passengers not more than 50 percent of their capacity in compliance with social distancing rules and to enforce compliance with NPI protocols especially the advisory on wearing of face masks in public spaces.”

Mustapha said to reduce overcrowding in public spaces, markets, shopping centres, offices and schools states are advised to encourage virtual meetings in government offices. The leadership of such offices are to ensure that all offices are well-ventilated offices, and encourage staff to work from home where possible.

“A lot of discussion is still going on around the calls for the restriction of international travels due to the discovery of new strains of the virus in certain countries. The PTF, Aviation and health authorities including the WHO , are assessing the situation closely and would take a position as soon as cogent scientific basis are established. The protection of Nigerians remains our primary concern and we reassure Nigerians of our resolve not to relent,” he said

He said the the PTF will submit its end of year Report to the President today and Nigerians shall be kept abreast of developments in this regard.

This came as government mulls imposition of travel ban to and from certain parts of the world.

Speaking in Abuja, yesterday, Minister of Information and Culture and member of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Lai Mohammed, said while government appreciates the negative economic impact of another lockdown, it would not rule out restriction on movement to and from certain parts of the world.

“We are more concerned about the new strain of COVID-19 which is manifesting itself in the UK; that is the mutated strain. It is difficult to detect, it spreads faster and people have been known to die of it within a very short period of its detection.

“This season, many students are coming from the UK in particular, to come and join their families in Nigeria.Besides, many of our people, because of the traditional link we have with UK may want to go there for business or family re-union. It is a very testy time and it might be another dangerous period to transmit this new variant of COVID-19.’’

He said many European countries had banned flights to and from the UK.

According to Mohammed, the Federal Government will not hesitate in giving the directive if it was the only way Nigerians can be protected from the agony of the new variant of COVID-19.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed any of its state chapters to proceed on industrial action without recourse to the national headquarters once it is not satisfied with the speed of negotiation.

President of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba, who disclosed this in Abuja yesterday, hinted that only Taraba State is yet to take any step towards implementing the new national wage of N30,000 and the attendant consequential adjustment.

Wabba also expressed the support of Labour movement for regional security outfit such as the ‘Amotekun’ of the South West.

He listed Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, FCT, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Lagos and Ondo as states that have signed agreement with labour while agreement has been reached but yet to be signed in Cross River, Enugu and Sokoto.

According to him, negotiation is ongoing in 17 states that include Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Ekiti, Gombe, Imo, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Plateua, Rivers, Yobe and Zamfara.

The NLC chief said implementation of the minimum wage and consequential agreement had begun in Borno, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, FCT, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Lagos, Ondo, Sokoto and Yobe while implementation for levels one to six had commenced in Adamawa, Bauchi and Niger states.

He added that four states that include Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra and Bayelsa states are on the awaiting implementation status, while 16 states that comprise Benue, Cross River, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba and Zamfara are yet to begin implementation.

Wabba said the national secretariat of the NLC is willing to provide backup for any state that require additional manpower to ensure success of their industrial action.

Meanwhile, labour said it would support regional security outfit as part of the national security architecture aimed at restoring the security of persons and property in the country.

Minimum Wage: NLC rejects N27,000, to engage NASS on Monday

Friday, January 25, 2019 9:19 pm

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has rejected the N27,000 minimum wage approved by the Council of State, saying it is ready to engage the National Assembly on Monday over the N30,000 figure agreed on by the Tripartite Committee.

The NLC President ,Mr Ayuba Wabba, said this while addressing newsmen at the end of its Congress Central Working (CWC)meeting held on Friday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Council of State had on Tuesday approved N27,000 as new national minimum wage for workers in states while federal civil servants would earn N30,000.

NAN also recalls that the bill on the National Minimum Wage was transmitted to the National Assembly on Wednesday and had since passed second reading at the Senate.

According to Wabba, the meeting reviewed the development, including the fact that N30,000 was agreed at the tripartite meeting as the minimum wage.

“ It was out of place and procedure for that figure to be reduced to N27,000.

“Going by the convention of the International Labour Organisation, the figure that was agreed by the tripartite committee cannot be changed by any of the parties except through a process.

“Government as an employer cannot unilaterally change the figure. This is about law and procedure.

“ Therefore, the CWC has frowned on that and rejected the issue of reducing the figure. We still maintain that we stand on the outcome of the tripartite committee.

“We will mobilse our members and engage the National Assembly on the issue. The negotiation must be respected and NASS should do the needful. We have put our members on the alert if that is not done.

“Certainly, we will also mobilise to take appropriate action that is desirable to protect and ensure that the tripartite process is respected, ” he said.

He said the process adopted was in line with the provision of the International Labour Organisation(ILO) convention on minimum wage mechanism.

Wabba, who said that NASS represents the people, urged the members to respect the outcome of the tripartite process.

“Importantly, when you look at N30,000, it’s a compromised position in the context of today’s economy of Nigeria. We should be commended.

“As far back as 2011, the N18,000 minimum wage was equivalent to $150, today, the N30,000 is less than $100.

“We juxtapose this argument within the context of reality and demand that what was mutually agreed after all other factors have been put into consideration, including the ability to pay, must be respected, ”

NLC reacts as National Council of State approves N27,000 as new minimum wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has rejected the N27,000 new National Minimum Wage adopted by the National Council of State on Tuesday.

Dr Peter Ozo-Eson, the NLC General Secretary, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

DAILY POST had reported that
The National Council approved the sum during its meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, presided by President Muhammadu Buharion Tuesday.

The N27,000 approved by the Council of State is N3,000 short of the N30,000 the Tripartite Committee on Review of National Minimum Wage recommended.

The National Council of State also approved the transmission of the National minimum wage bill to the National Assembly.

But, reacting, Ozo-Ezon said the council has no jurisdiction determining another amount after a Tripartite Committee has submitted its report.

“It is abysmal of government to be delaying the submission of an Executive Bill to the National Assembly and by wrongfully adopting N27,000 through the council of states,” he said.
