Ordinarily, there should be only one (main) route to sexual satisfaction – intercourse, but in reality, people have devised several means to that destination, and one of the ways some people have adopted is anal sex. This means sex through the anus. And the act seems to be growing, because in spite of the society’s stance on it and how much it has been condemned by some medical experts, a report by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, under the United States Department of Health and Human Services, shows that 44 per cent of men and 36 per cent of women have had anal sex at least once in their lifetime. Apart from those who tried it once in a lifetime, a report by WebMD, an American corporation that reports news and information pertaining to human health and well being, found in 2015 that as many as five to 10 per cent of sexually active women engage in receptive anal sex. Notably, apart from consenting heterosexual adults and homosexuals, it has been observed that some of those who also practise it are young men and women lured into it based on money, while some children; young boys and girls, have been or are being sexually abused by older men. Regardless, given that some have already embraced this backdoor action, it is however instructive to note that there are serious health risks attached to anal sex, and some of these include: Severe physical pains: One of the many adverse effects of anal sex is that it could cause serious physical pain, as the penile penetration could tear the tissue inside the woman’s anus, while the man could also feel some pain on his penis. This is mainly because the anus is not lubricated like the vagina, thus, thrusting might bring about some pains, more so that the skin on the penis is such a flexible one that is prone to tear on slight friction. Even though such people tend to use lubricants like cream, to lessen the pain, Dr. William Blahd, an emergency medicine specialist, who wrote on WebMD, noted that using lubricants does not completely prevent tearing of the tissue in the anus. While both persons may try to enjoy the act, it was also gathered that the pain after the exercise may not go away quickly, especially if the man has a bigger organ. Blahd would also point out that apart from the pain, consistent anal sex could affect the functioning of the anus and affect the overall health of such persons. He added, “There could be bleeding after anal sex which could be due to hemorrhoid (a swollen vein or group of veins in the region of the anus) or tear, or something more serious such as a perforation (hole) in the colon. This is a dangerous problem that requires immediate medical attention. Treatment involves a hospital stay, surgery, and antibiotics to prevent infection. Anal leakage: While men who engage in masturbation have to contend with seminal leakage, in which case sperm begins to leak out of their penis even when there is no erection, due to excessive masturbation, people, including women and homosexuals, who engage in anal sex tend to have weakened anal sphincter, thereby reducing their ability to hold faeces for a long time. Blahd explained that anal sphincter, which controls the closing of the anus after defecation, is a tight circular muscle that constricts and expands, but that due to repeated penile penetration, the sphincter would be weakened, “making it difficult to hold in faeces until you can get to the toilet.” Also, a gynaecologist, Dr. Bolanle Shukra-Okesina, said anal sex destroys the inner tissues and that such women or the (receiving) men, in the case of homosexuals, could end up using pampers. She explained, “The anus has a locking mechanism that keeps it close when you finish defecating. So, if somebody continues to traumatise that area, that place relaxes and becomes slack, such that the anus won’t close anymore. “After a long time of practising it, the person would start having loose release of gas and stool because the sphincter in the anus would have become slack. I’ve heard a lot of young guys that put on pampers because of that. It’s also applicable to young guys who are being abused or lured into it by older men because of money.” Free ticket to STIs: According to experts, sexually transmitted infections can easily be transmitted through anal sex. According to Blahd, this is partly because if the penetration of the penis tears the tissue inside the anus, it serves as broad opening for viruses and bacteria to penetrate the bloodstream of such persons, and the infections that could be transmitted in this regard include HIV. He said studies had shown that sex through the anus is 30 times more risky for HIV infection than sex through the vagina. He added, “Our external tissue has layers of dead cells that serve as a protective barrier against infection. The tissue inside the anus does not have this natural protection, which leaves it vulnerable to tearing and the spread of infection.” Even though using a condom could reduce the likelihood of getting infection, it has been said that condom is not an absolute (100 per cent) protection against infection. Shukra-Okesina also explained that there are some organisms in the stool and some in the inner canal of the anus, which a man could easily contact during anal sex. She added, “For people who get involved in it, they contract those organisms and so they are prone to having infections. And the effect of having to treat several infections along the genital tract is that it can block the tract, causing difficulty when they want to make a woman pregnant, because that is the same tract semen passes through.” This is applicable whether the man does it with a male or a female. And it should equally be noted that the possible health issues connected to STIs include pain with urination and intercourse, vaginal bleeding and discharge, rashes, itching and odour oozing out from the genitals, infertility, reproductive system cancers and inflammation of the coiled tube at the back of the testicle that stores and carries sperm. The anus has loads of bacteria: As the canal for human waste (faeces), it has been found that the anus is a breeding ground for bacteria, and Blahd stressed that even if both of the persons involved in the act do not have sexually transmitted disease before the act, the quantum of bacteria in the anus are capable of infecting the man, and that is easily caught through the penile penetration. While anal sex on its own is as risky as can be imagined, Blahd warned that the situation could be worse if the man and the woman engage in vaginal sex after anal sex. He said this could lead to vaginal and urinary tract infections, and the urinary tract includes bladder, ureter, urethra and kidney. And for those who like to put their mouths in the anus, perhaps out of sexual excitement or adventure, Blahd warned that oral contact with the anus could make both persons stand the risk of hepatitis, which is a disease characterised by inflammation of the liver, human papillomavirus infection, which could result in anal cancer or warts, which is a small, hard, benign growth on the skin, caused by a virus. Meanwhile, there are reports that some men who had sex through the anus were found to have the hard-to-treat Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, which is a bacterium that causes infections in different parts of the body and it is tougher to treat because it is resistant to common antibiotics. According to WebMD, it can cause serious skin infections, infect the bloodstream, the lungs and even the urinary tract. Notably, this infection can be passed among sexual partners. Anal cancer: Apart from the infections and other effects that have been identified, anal sex has also been found to cause anal cancer. According to Shukra-Okesina, anal sex could also lead to cancer, due to the changes in the nature of the tissues in the anus. She said, “On the long run, once the nature of the tissues changes, which is known as metaplasia, the mucosa, which is a membrane that lines various cavities in the anus and some other parts of the body and surrounds internal organs, also becomes infected over time. It becomes inflamed. And so these continuous abnormal changes of the mucosa would lead to anal cancer on the long run.” |

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Tuesday confirmed that it had ended its one week nationwide warning strike over the non-implementation of a 2009 agreement with the Federal Government. The President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, who said this in Abuja, urged lecturers to return to work. “We are making progress, especially with the intervention of the Senate. In the next one or two meetings, if we are able to get a clear path to the matter, we will avoid elongation of the strike action. “I have been receiving these reports that ASUU says strike continues. No. The strike ends today (Tuesday). All lecturers are to go back to work Wednesday morning.” According to him, ASUU was hopeful of a positive outcome, going by the response coming from the Federal Government. Were you born under a lucky star? Does luck follow you around? Do others consider you a “lucky son of a ….?” In the movie, A Knight's Tale, a young boy asks his impoverished father, “Can a man really change his stars?” The father answers affirmatively and many years later, that boy (now played by Heath Ledger) has become a successful jouster and knight. So which is it: Are lucky people born that way, are they pre-ordained somehow, or do they make their own luck? Different cultures have put faith in a variety of lucky charms and symbols. Sailors: The albatross Chinese: Bamboo Thai: White elephant Japanese: Maneki-Neko Irish: Four-leaf clover English: Horseshoe Native Americans: Dreamcatcher Germans, Italians, Russians, Turks: Ladybug Americans: Rabbit’s foot Do these symbols make a person lucky, or is there more to the story? Over the years, many people have considered me to be a lucky person. I don’t see it that way. While I have been successful in many ways, I believe it's been more a matter of motivation, planning, inspired action, and a good amount of sweat. Rather than rubbing that rabbit’s foot (it wasn’t very lucky for the rabbit), here are eight practical ways to change your luck: 1. Be Mindful. Mindfulness is being non-judgmentally alert and aware of what’s going on around you as well as inside you—how you’re thinking and feeling. Mindfulness occurs on a moment-by-moment basis. When you are operating mindlessly, on auto-pilot, you are unlikely to observe opportunities or take advantage of a situation. One important key to happiness, and a key factor in becoming lucky, is developing a mindfulness mindset. How will you find that $10 bill caught in the sewer grate, or know whether to throw down rock when your opponent has a clear predilection for scissors, if you don’t have a keen sense of situational awareness? article continues after advertisement 2. Be proactive. "Lucky" people make things happen. They are proactive rather than reactive. They make their future. And when you can take responsibility for your words, actions, and behavior, you have more control of your destiny. There are three kinds of people: Those who make things happen; those who watch things happen; and those who wonder what just happened. Yes, you might get lucky and a $100 bill might fly in through your window while you’re sitting on the couch, but your luck of finding some money on the street would improve if you were outside walking in the first place. A colleague may appear to be lucky when she tells you that she got eight new clients today; until you find out that she started working two hours before you and skipped her lunch break. She also took that online course on “completing the sale” that you thought wouldn’t be worth it. 3. Be opportunistic. Successful people are opportunists. They have the ability to take advantage of novel and often concealed opportunities when they arise. Many people are blind to opportunities because they don’t notice them or because they are inflexible and stuck in their ways. People who practice opportunism see opportunities all around them and are able to use them to their advantage. Being an opportunist involves being mindfully aware; being flexible enough to change your original plans; and being open-minded enough to take advantage of these new opportunities. We often think of people who have traveled extensively throughout the world as being “lucky.” The truth is that most people have had many opportunities to travel at different times in their lives, yet have not taken advantage of them. They may have felt like they didn't have the money, needed to work, wanted to start their career, or didn’t want to leave family or friends behind. While there were many possible reasons at the time for not going, years later these reveal themselves as mere excuses for not taking advantage of opportunities. 4. Be insightful. There are two There are two types of knowledge—explicit and implicit (or tacit). Explicit knowledge is the kind people gain from reading books and going to school—factual stuff. Implicit knowledge is what we achieve through observing and experiencing—things you really can’t teach. Both types of knowledge are important to help guide decisions or choose particular pathways. A hunch may be an uninformed guess—worth as much as flipping a coin—or it may be based on in-depth explicit and implicit knowledge—and insight! We all have insight to varying degrees, yet some are better than others at being open to hearing those inner voices. Making use of this knowledge depends on your ability to access this information and trust in yourself. Having insight involves integrating explicit and implicit knowledge with an understanding of social situations and emotions, both yours and others'. Insightful people have higher emotional and social intelligence—being able to “read” people and understand unspoken issues in a social situation. Lucky people seek knowledge and experiences and make the best use of their insight. 5. Be flexible. Life is dynamic—always changing. Heraclitus said, “You can’t step in the same river twice.” The truth is that you can’t even step in the same river once, because even as you’re step in the river, it is changing. Appreciating the dynamics of life and being able to go with the flow provides enormous advantages to finding new ways of doing things or getting places or creating opportunities. Lucky people are flexible and take advantage of new situations. I’m flying Milwaukee to Hawaii via Chicago. There are huge storms in Milwaukee that temporarily close the airport. Even though our bags have been checked in, the airline offers to bus us into Chicago instead of flying. We decide to go on the bus. Some of our friends would rather take their chances with the airline since they are already comfortably located in the airport. We arrive in Chicago and then catch our flight to Hawaii. Our friends end up stuck in Milwaukee and don’t make it into Hawaii until the next day—when they arrive and exclaim, “Boy, were you lucky to get here yesterday!” 6. Be optimistic. The optimist believes that this is the best of all possible worlds. The pessimist is afraid that this might be true! I stop at a restaurant with my friend. He complains, “Look at this cup of coffee, it’s half-empty!” I respond, “Oh, that’s too bad, they gave me one that is half-full.” We both received the same amount of coffee. But I certainly sound like the lucky one. Luck isn’t limited to objective findings; one person’s poison is another’s cure. In other words, if an optimist and a pessimist both win the same prize in a lottery, only the optimist will appear to be lucky. Optimism helps you see the advantages in any given situation. Lucky people with an optimistic outlook are better able to identify the silver lining in any given situation. 7. Think out of the box. It’s not enough to be flexible and to accept changes as they occur. To truly enhance your ability to be lucky, take advantage of alterations in your schedule and changes in your plans. Lucky people think out-of-the-box. A hiker is isolated in the wilderness for days with his arm stuck between two rocks. Another day and he’ll die without food and water. He makes it out alive by cutting off his own arm to free himself. Was he lucky? A pessimist might say that he wasn’t—he lost his arm. An optimist would say that he was—most people would have died in that situation. How did he become lucky? Out-of-the-box thinking. It isn’t always painful; often it involves looking for loopholes and looking at situations from multiple perspectives. Two companies are competing with similar products. The one that thinks out-of-the-box with an innovative redesign or a novel marketing strategy is the one who will appear to be lucky. 8. Be resilient. Transform limiting problems into motivating challenges. Take advantage of new situations. Several of history’s most famous inventors found out thousands of ways to not do something before they finally figured out something that worked. Were they lucky? Most people would think so. Obviously, these individuals were very bright—but there are a lot of bright people in the world. What made these people different was their resilience—the fortitude to continue to pursue their dreams, goals, and aspirations in the face of adversity. As Thomas Edison said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” There are splatters and bouncers. Splatterers crush when they fall, while bouncers are resilient. Be a bouncer! |

IS GRACE A LICENSE TO SIN? No man needs a license to do evil. The fallen state of man affords him that. Any man who is still a custodian of the Adamic Nature is a Licensed sinner from birth, sin is his nature. Grace is Gods cure for sin. John the baptist, the last prophet of the Old Testament puts it like this, “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” John 1:29 KJV So no man can defeat sin except he beholds and receives this lamb of God who is the embodiment of grace! “And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.” John 1:14 KJV When a man receives Jesus who is grace, the coming of Christ into him removes that sinful nature completely and the nature of sonship takes over that man and that man is no longer a sinner but a son of God! “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” John 1:12 KJV Contrary to the legalist claims, grace is the final cure for sin. When you receive that grace, what Jesus the lamb of God did in his death, burial and resurrection, you experience it, the adoption of sons! “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” Romans 6:14 KJV “Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:” Romans 5:20 KJV. GRACE CURES SIN. Grace therefore is not a license to sin. Grace is an Empowerment to Reign Over all the things we couldn't be Free from under the Administration of Death (The Law)!!! The Increase of sin cannot make Grace of no effect. It is the increase of the Revelation of Jesus (Grace) that nullifies and makes Sin of no effect. “Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;" 1 Peter 1:13 KJV What makes men free is the knowledge of the truth, not struggling to behave right, but the knowledge of the PERSON of JESUS Christ as revealed in the scriptures. “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:4 KJV Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. Why is the truth so Important? "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32 KJV So What is the Truth? “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth (which is truth) came by Jesus Christ.” John 1:17 KJV “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6 KJV So Grace finds expression in the person of Jesus. The truth is a person. His name is Jesus Christ. He is Grace Personified!!! Grace is a person living his life through you. So Jesus is the Truth that makes men free!!! This Freedom is evidenced by the workings of the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus whose power creates within you the desire to do His gracious will and also brings about the accomplishment of the desire. “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” Philippians 2:12-13 KJV We only stumble when we shift our gaze from Jesus (The Author and Finisher of our Faith). So a believer that continues in the actions of sin is living in denial. He is suffering from Identity crisis and double mindedness because he lacks a clear revelation of Jesus. Hence he has mental agitation. He has forgotten who he is & how he looks. "He is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was." James 1:23 KJV “...because as he is, so are we in this world.” 1 John 4:17(b)KJV |

The Igbos, one of the main ethnic groups in Nigeria, are known to have a rich culture and remarkable history. While modernization has ensured the erosion of certain aspects of their culture, much of its history has been preserved, including relics from the past which reveal its heritage. Jumia Travel, Africa’s No.1 Online Hotel Booking Portal, lists 5 of the places where the culture and history of these people who dominate the eastern part of Nigeria can be discovered. lgbo-Ukwu Museum The Igbo-Ukwu museum is in Ngo village, Igbo-Ukwu, Amabara state. The town, Igbo-Ukwu is of great historical and cultural significance in Igbo land as it is notable for bronze artifacts from a very sophisticated bronze metal-working culture centuries before other known bronzes of the region. It is in recognition of this that the Federal Government in Nigeria granted approval for the hosting of an annual National New Yam Festival in Igbo- Ukwu to promote the culture and tradition of Ndigbo and new yam festival. The festival takes place at National Yam House built by the Federal Government in Igbo- Ukwu since 2005. The Igbo-Ukwu bronze treasures were accidentally discovered by a worker who was hired to dig a cistern by Mr. Isaiah Anozie during dry season in 1939 . Subsequent archaeological excavations of the area led by Professor Thurstan Shaw led to the discovery of other sites , making a total of three sites: Igbo Isaiah (a shrine), Igbo Richard (a burial chamber), and Igbo Jonah (a cache). Among the recovered object include a ritual Pottery Vessel, Scabbard, Pendant with rams head, Human face with scarification, Bronze bowl and a pear – shaped bowl. While some of these artefact have been exported and some lost, the Museum plays a significant role in preserve the remaining Igbo ukwu pieces, indigenous productions, which are vital in discerning the ancient history of not only Igbos, but of the human existence within ancient Africa. lgbo-Ukwu Museum has remained an attraction to tourists mostly because of its bronze artifacts. It is great place to visit as the bronze pieces are a sight to behold. The Long JuJu Shrine of Arochukwu Arochukwu is the third largest town in Abia State (after Aba and Umuahia) in southeastern Nigeria and is a famous tourist destination as the cave of the famous long juju oracle is a particular attraction. It is originally, a religious centre with a well-laid down administrative structure headed by a Chief Priest. The cave is believed to hold the long metal pipe through which the gods speak to the people, and was used to judge the perpetrators of crimes in the old time. A dark kilometre-long series of tunnels, some deeply mysterious features of the shrine include the Throne of Judgement, where Chukwu would decide on the fate of a person, the Tunnel of Disappearance, and the Red River, which would turn coloured when a person was killed. What makes this shrine, also known as Ibinu Ukpabi, a spectacular historical site in the region is the role it played in the slave trade era and thus the impact it made in Nigeria’s history. In the 15th Century, when the slave trade was introduced, West African middlemen used it to their advantage, as the condemned were no longer killed inside the shrine, but secretly sold on into slavery. The mystic Long-Juju shrine, the slave routes and other relics of the slave trade era have become important tourist attractions in the area as a result of what they represent in Nigeria’s history. Mbari Cultural Centres Mbari is a traditional arts and crafts center retained by the Imo State council for Arts and Culture. Situated at Ikenegbu in Central Owerri, Mbari, it is an open air museum that houses monumental arts depicting the culture, tradition and history of the Igbo people. Sometimes referred to as the ‘house of gods’, it is a huge tourist attraction. Although Mbari is a monumental art sacrifice to “ALA” the earth goodness, it also shelters artistic representations – artefacts as well as well as sculptures- which tell of the prevalent social life of the Igbos and images of other prominent deities that inhabit the traditional Igbo cosmic system. These deities include Amadioha (the god of thunder), Ogwugwu (the god of the forest), Nwaorie (the goddess of Nwaorie River), Ahiajoku (the god of harvest), etc. Closely attached to each deity are images of animals such as monkeys, tortoise, rams, snakes and owls, believed to represent errand spirits or mystical messengers of the deities. There are also images of Ikoro, the Igbo traditional instrument for communicating messages; unfamiliar creatures such as the ostrich (Enyi Nnunu); a certain tall figure representing Alakuko, allegedly the tallest man in Igboland; ‘Onye afo toro’, a man whose stomach became bloated because he committed an abomination against Ala, etc Contrary to general assumption, Mbari is neither a centre for idol worship nor an idol in itself. It is an art form that has its origin very deep in Igbo cultural and religious beliefs and practices. The Mabari cultural centre is a three dimensional cultural facility, made up of the Mbari House, Mbari Museum Kitchen and an amphitheatre, and definitely a must-see location. National War Museum Amafor Isingwu Umuahia National War Museum Amafor Isingwu Umuahia is a museum set up to exhibit relics used during Nigeria’s Civil war of 1967. The museum has the largest collection of the Nigerian civil war weapons that are no longer in used. The weapons are from both the Nigerian military and the defunct Biafra. Commissioned in 1985, the museum is located at Ebite Amafor in Isingwu Autonomous Community in the Umuahia North Local Government Area. The museum’s location was chosen because it was where the bunker housing the famous shortwave radio “the Voice of Biafra” was transmitted from. It has three galleries featuring items on the traditional warfare, armed forces and Nigerian civil war weapons. War relics in the museum include weapons used during the pre-colonial civil disturbances, warfare materials used during communal and inter-tribal wars and those of the Nigerian civil war. The Museum Complex opens at 10am and closes at 6pm daily with a gate fee of N100. For those who did not experience the civil war, they may not get a mental picture of how it occurred without visiting the museum. And for those who did, they could relive the period by visiting the museum. It is a perfect way to gain firsthand knowledge of the civil war, a huge part of Nigeria’s history. It is certainly a place to go. Mungo Park House Mungo Park House, also known as National Museum Asaba, is tucked behind the Delta State High Court and the state Library Board complex along Nnebisi Road, Asaba, Delta state Nigeria. Although named after Mungo Park, the man who discovered River Niger, the prominent colonial vestige of pre-fabricated wooden storey building was never owned or visited by Mungo Park. The house was constructed by the Royal Niger Company (RNC) in 1886 and served as the first British administrative headquarters in the country and invariably the first government house in Nigeria. The Mungo Park House offers education on Nigeria’s rich historical background (mainly that of trade and investment in pre-colonial era) and journey to civilization. Although some parts of the building are slowly dilapidating due to the elements (weather corrosion), it is definitely a place to visit. The museum is also just a few blocks from the popular Grand Hotel, Asaba. |
