So sorry to hear about this; it can be really disheartening. I can advise you to explore other options (Canada express entry, Australia, or even UK; depending on your field of study/work). Cheer up, great news awaits you.

Hello great people.

I am not an active member on nairaland, over the weekend I decided re-open nairaland and read up updates on student visa, i got to know about bvl and the refusal trend

I applied on the 26th September and just yesterday i got the bvl mail and i started praying for a positive followup, only for me to get the refusal letter now. I am so heart broken. I think i should just forget this Canada thingy, I will just lock up myself and cry, i am so so sad.

They have DLI number, but sadly don’t offer PGWP eligible programs.
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Orlarshaynee: 6:58pm On Nov 25, 2019
What I have heard is that you can still get the 3 years PGWP if you don’t apply for a PGWP after the one year programme. Meaning you can only get the PGWP once.

So you need to ensure you get an admission offer before your study permit/visa expires; if you want to remain in Canada legally. Then you can go for the masters program and after then you can apply for the PGWP, which will award you 3 years work permit.

You should however wait to get responses from more knowledgeable people about this.

Good luck.
IboBoyNuel:
Good day guys. Thank you all for your contribution. I've learnt A lot hear.

I have just been offered admission into Centennial College to study Global business management for May 2020. It's a two year Graduate Certificate program. I just got the mail today and i haven't paid the tuition deposit of 2300 CAD yet.

I also applied to Durham College for International Business Management but i haven't gotten feedback yet. This one is a 1 year graduate certificate program.

I'll also want to go for my masters in management when I'm done with the programme.

my challenge right now is:

1) if i go for the one year program and then go for masters later, will i b still be eligible for the 3 years PGWPP?

2) bearing in mind i still want to do masters after the program, do you suggest i go for the one year programme or two years programme?

If you have already gone through the biometrics and medical stage, then this is good news. You will likely get the visa. However, it came to my notice that CIC still does another vetting before making a final decision. In my case, it took about 15 days after submitting my passport before CIC finally sent me a final decision mail, which stated that a counterfoil had been attached to my passport.

I hope this was helpful?

Hello everyone

Please does a passport request mean your visa has been granted?
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Orlarshaynee: 8:45pm On Nov 23, 2019
I would say that it is subjective. It really depends on what one wants to use such qualification for. If you really meant ‘which of them is higher in rank’, then I believe it is masters.

Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Orlarshaynee: 12:34am On Nov 23, 2019
I’m sorry but I strongly disagree with this. Not only is my school not on this list, but this claim is counter-intuitive. If a school which one applied to finds one worthy of being granted admission, I see no reason why a VO will begin to look at your previous educational institution as a criteria for approval or refusal of study permit. I can understand if they are checking the authenticity of documents submitted, but not which school you attended.

A better reason for the high number of application refused may be the quota system, which some people mentioned earlier.
Linzo:
Hey fellow aspirants, I'd figure one of the major reasons for rejection especially in the masters program for Nigeria students.
The major reason for refusal is school of your undergraduate, Visa officers give credence to your undergraduate university. Have you notice that graduates from UNN, Unilag, Unibadan, convernent and top five universities are hardly refuse Visa? Most of the refusals are graduates for lesser universities especially private schools.
If you're not from the aforementioned schools please do well to constructively package your application. Take note

I have a friend who was offered admission to Conestoga for May 2020 session, but she is worried the offer letter isn't legit, as she got it about 3 days after applying.

Based on this reply here, is she meant to send official copies to Conestoga? She only used the scanned copies in her online application, but they didn’t request for it. Thanks

Hello Orlarshaynee,

To the first bolded, your observation is absolutely correct. That time frame was before IRCC made secondary verification after PPR mandatory. In most cases, a submitted passport could stay beyond 2wks or more, depending the case.

To the second bolded, congratulations. You scaled through the secondary verification.

Congratulations!

LOL. Haba. I know she said to critique her mail, but this was a bit harsh, but funny nonetheless.

Like you suggested, I think she should go through the professor's research and develop an interest for one of the key areas she (the prof) is currently working on.

Also, just a little addition, try and proofread for minor errors such as 'labarotory' spelling. And this may just be me: try capitalising the first letter of the major words in the email subject next time. E.g 'Student Interested in Joining Protein-folding Laboratory'.

I hope this was helpful? cc @rieme26

3. I am fascinated with your research... fascinated by what exactly?
4. I want you to mentor me... excuse me, who r u?
5. I will be grateful...send your thanks to God not me.

Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Orlarshaynee: 5:20am On Nov 18, 2019
From my experience, it varies. I submitted my passport on the 4th of November 2019, and I asked the guy who collected my passport how long it could take and he said average of 15 days. I researched and found that some people get theirs as early as 3 business days. I am yet to get a mail from vfs that my passport is ready for pick up; although, I suspect that will come today.

I've been having issues with tracking my passport using the tracking ID provided and have had to depend on the email notifications vfs sends. The last one said my passport "is under process at the IRCC Office". However, I got an update on my CIC profile that a final decision has been made and a counterfoil has been attached to my passport.

How long has it been since you submitted your passport? (I am assuming you went through the online route for your visa application).

Thanks for this contribution. It’s similar to what I just posted and I didn’t even know you already responded to his question. Well done for always being helpful here. God bless.
Frankrobbn1:

Your chances of securing a visa to Canada are good provided that you're able to explain your passion for business, and also try as much as you can to link your previous internship experiences during your undergraduate studies in agricultural economics with your current job role as a business owner. Explain extensively why you need a business management Certificate and it's benefits to your career and home country. Once you can be able to come up with convincing reasons behind the aforementioned, then you're close to your visa success.
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Orlarshaynee: 6:06pm On Nov 04, 2019
I feel that, if you are able to explain your previous academic and career path, and how studying business management will contribute to your development for a certain role or help you contribute to your home country, you should be fine. Bear in mind that, there are other criteria the Visa Office (VO) will evaluate before reaching the conclusion that one should be granted a permit to study. Also, add prayer and I believe all will be well. I wish you the very best.
IboBoyNuel:

Yea. Thank you. I'm thinking a Graduate Certificate in maybd Global business management or business management.

What are my chances of getting my visa approved?

I'm yet to apply for admission though

Thanks for pointing that out. I wrongly assumed the same procedure for Nigerian sponsors applied to supervisors in Canada.
Frankrobbn1:

I think you're mistaken the applicant's question for a sponsor here in Nigeria. The question is actually referring to a graduate Supervisor in a university in Canada providing full funded scholarship for the applicant's research master's program. Hence all the requirements like international passport, employment letters and statement of account from the applicant's supervisor as suggested by you is not needed here.

As I have rightly said in my previous post, what the applicant needs to show/present is a minimum of 1.2M in his account for his flight itinerary and other miscellaneous expenses that might arise during the course of his studies in Canada and I'm sure he will be fine with this. More so, if the applicant doesn't have upto this amount in his account, he can get a sponsor that will present a bank statement of 5M upwards since he is a fully funded applicant.

Cc: Xenyth, be properly guided!

Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Orlarshaynee: 3:14am On Nov 02, 2019
From my experience, what you will need is a detailed sponsorship letter explaining your relationship with your sponsor (your supervisor) and why they are sponsoring you. Also, you will need their statement of account, their proof of employment or ownership of a business etc. and finally a copy of their passport bio data page. I hope this helps.
Xenyth:
Hello house. will I have to provide any form of proof of fund if my supervisor is offering me full funding with tuition fee cover and a stipend of 25000CAD per year which is more than what I need in a year?

I think this is possible, since both applicants will likely be applying separately. However, you need to show your relationship with such person and why they are sponsoring you; of course they will have to give proof of their financial capability (statement of account, company documents or proof of employment and all).
chucs:
Goodmorning everyone. Please pardon me if my question may seem like i'm drawing anyone backwards. It is as a result of how urgent I needed the information.

Please I want to know if a family friend can sponsor me for a Canadian study program? He lives in Uk and he is a citizen.

I also want to know if he can sponsor two persons at ones.

Home ties was basically the family farm business, as I said I would be more than happy to return at the end of my study to Nigeria, so I can apply the practical knowledge I would have gained to the farm business.

Also, I mentioned in the concluding aspect of my SOP, that my parents will be retiring from the business in a couple of years, and will be handing over the operations to me.

Finally, I had to spell it out to the visa officer (also in the conclusion), that I have no intentions of over staying my validity period in Canada, similar to my time studying in the UK(which of course is very true; I can not goan hang in another man's country cheesy).

I hope this was helpful.

Yes, under the optional document slot was where I put the additional documents. However, for proof of funds, I put sponsor's statement of account, sponsorship letter, sponsor's passport bio-data page, company documents and landed properties in the slot provided for PROOF OF FUNDS. I hope this helps.

2. Review of eligibilty

Programme applied for and offered admission in: Graduate Certificate in Supply Chain management (1 academic year duration)
Institution: Mohawk College

I have a BSc in Agricultural economics and farm management (Bowen University Iwo), and a MSc in Agricultural economics (Reading University).
I currently work with my family farm business; as a farm inventory manager.

Documents I submitted with my application:
1. Letter of acceptance from Mohawk College
2. MSc degree certificate and transcript
3. BSc degree certificate and transcript
4. NYSC certificate
5. WAEC certificate
6. Previous copies of travel stamps and visas to show travel history.
7. Statement of purpose/intent: I had to give a background of my work and academic history, and went further to explain how studying supply chain management would help build my skillsets and in turn help me when I return to the family business in Nigeria.
8. Sponsorship letter from my Dad.
9. Copy of sponsor passport data page
10. Proof of funds: This consisted of my dad’s statement of account, his landed properties, receipt of acceptance fee of $1600 paid to my school (I did not provide any personal proof of fund).
11. I also did not provide any letter of introduction from the family company, stating my salary. Although I did provide details of my employment status in the online IMM form.
12. The company’s CAC documents and audited account statement for last year were provided as well.

I arranged all the additional files into one pdf file and detailed it well with a table of content. A friend who also got approval before me advised this.

Above all be prayerful; be helpful to others, and I believe yours will come too. Again thanks a lot Nairaland family.

If anyone needs further clarification or assistance with their application, feel free to drop a message here, so everyone can benefit from it.

Best wishes.

I think the first and best thing to do is contact your school and explain things, then also ask them if you can still pay tuition now and if they will still give you a chance for Winter 2020 resumption, if they say it is late for that, ask them if they can consider you for the next resumption maybe fall 2020.

From what you posted, it seems you already paid a fee to secure your seat; the $1500. It is important they give you another chance, else it may affect your getting a visa (not permit) to study (if there isn’t any school you will be going to). What I mean is, the screening at ‘port of entry’; they will likely ask for proof that you’ve paid tuition for the term you are resuming for. This is what I think, however, you should wait for responses from the gurus here.
Obehi44:
Hello house,

My school sent this email saying admission has been revoked, stating that either tuition was not paid or other reasons.
Though this was the same admission that was used for the previous visa application that was refused in Sept.
But I honestly forgot or forgot to check that there was a set date (Oct 15, 2019) to pay the balance(after paying the $1500) tuition fee for the first semester (admission is for Jan 2020).

Now, visa application is on and just completed 2 weeks. Medical is upfront and showing "we are reviewing the result of your medical".

My question now is, what do i do concerning the school? Contact them? If so, what do I say? Will they still allow me to pay?

Will this have effect or affects the visa process?
