Was the economy of Russia not dependent on importation just like ours especially food eg tomatoes from turkey, cheese, milk and other staples from europe. Even wheat. First, Russia produces many consumer goods for their citizens and others in the region. Yes they don't have lots of goods geared towards western markets.
Manufacturing goods for your own economy is very very important and allows you to have some sort of control of your economy.
Secondly, Nigeria does not have a y manufacturing base, no steel industry, no technological know how, no research and development base. The people are more interested in tribal, religious and mundane issues than in inventions.
Thirdly, besides agriculture which other industry can just make any serious impact in a very short period? None.

Yes this and all other previous governments in this country have been subpar in every facet of creating an enabling environment for solid foundation for diversification of the economy. What did the previous govts do to diversify the economy? Nothing.
Your leaders are a microcosm of you, your village, your town, your cities and the whole country.
Until you have people who are more interested in the greater good of society than their own selfish need, don't expect any serious improvement.
