Crime / Woman Jailed 25 Months After Husband Jumped Bail: I Gave Birth In Prison, Lost M by Osnuf34(m): 6:36am On Jun 06, 2020
Thirty - five - year old Bose Abiodun, who has four children, spent 25 months in Ilesha Correctional Centre after her husband , Femi – under trial for manslaughter – whom she stood surety for, jumped bail . Abiodun, who had her fourth child in prison , shares her experience with BOLA BAMIGBOLA
What do you do ?
I am a native of Ijebu - Jesa in the Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State . I am a tailor and was also doing petty trading alongside before I was put in prison. I am a mother of four children – three boys and a girl . I had the girl while in Ilesha Prison.
What led you to prison ?
I stood surety for my husband , Femi Abiodun . He was arrested after he mistook a man for an animal during a hunting expedition and shot the person . The person eventually died . He was a hunter in Ijebu - Jesa.
How did you get involved in the matter ?
The matter started in January 2014 . He was arrested and arraigned . The court remanded him in Ilesha Prison and he spent a year and some months there. Our lawyer later secured bail for him . But my brother- in - law ( husband ’ s elder brother) , Dele , and I had to stand as sureties . While my husband was on bail, we appeared before High Court 6 in Osogbo about three times . Before I was arrested and sent to prison, my husband had stopped going to court .
Didn ’t you know about it ?
I knew he was no longer going to court . He moved out of the house in December 2017 and till date , I have not seen him . He left me with three kids and quietly ran away.

What did you do after your husband moved out of the house?
In the first few days , I was calling him repeatedly . He used to answer my calls; he would tell me he was working to raise money . He promised to return home as soon as he had some money. But few weeks after , he stopped answering my calls.
What happened after that ?
His lawyer came to our house and informed me that my husband and his brother had stopped appearing in court . I was scared but there was nothing I could do . On April 11 , 2018 , I was arraigned and remanded in Ilesha Prison because the accused I stood surety for had run away .
Before your eventual release , were you not appearing in court ?
I was taken to court on May 5 and October 9 , 2018 . Aside from those two occasions , I was not taken to court . I always asked prison officials for the date my matter would come up , but they used to tell me no date had been picked for the matter .
You had a baby while in prison , how did that happen ?
I didn ’ t know I was pregnant until few days after I was remanded. I took ill and was taken to a clinic inside the prison. After examination, I was told by the officials there that I was few months pregnant.
So , what did you do after you realised you were pregnant ?
I told my mother and brother, who were always coming to check on me , about it. I was delivered of the baby on a Sunday ; it was on September 2 , 2018 . I had been in labour since around 8 pm on Saturday (previous day ) and to the glory of God ; I put to bed around 3 . 30 pm on Sunday without any complications . I had mixed feelings though; I was happy I was delivered of a healthy baby without complications and was sad that it was while I was in incarceration .
The baby was named Oyinkansola by the leaders of a church that usually visited the prison. She is my fourth child . My first child will be 11 years old this month ( June 2020 ) .
How did you secure your release?
My name was not on the list of inmates to be released on the day I was released . It happened that someone came to look for me and I was told that the Chief Justice’ s panel wanted to meet me. I was elated when I saw the lawyer , Julie Olorunyomi , because she was involved in my matter . I was asked questions about how I got to prison and after sharing my story, I was granted amnesty .
On getting home , I realised my world had shattered. When I left my three boys with my mother , she was hale and hearty. But when I was released , I learnt she died while I was in prison. I was told she died on December 30 , 2018 . She and my elder brother used to come together to see me in jail but at some point , she stopped coming . When I asked my brother why she stopped coming , he said she was fine . Anytime my brother came around and I asked after our mum, he would say she was fine and that I should calm down.
How did you feel when you were released ?
On the day I was to be freed, I woke up feeling extremely happy . That morning , my daughter packed her clothes and said , “ Mummy , let’ s go home . ” Oyinkansola would wake up and sing songs of praise ; she is 20 months old now and has never asked about her father .
After I returned home , I realised I had nothing anymore; the little things I was trading in were gone . My kids and I are with my aged father now. I am helpless and need the support of everyone . My parents had sold their belongings before my mother died .
Do you think you can forgive your husband?
I don ’ t think I can ever forgive him for what he did to me. Though before the case in 2014 , he did what he could do within his capacity but after he returned from prison, he became irresponsible . He started womanising and that led to a misunderstanding between us in December 2014 . I don ’ t want to be with him again or any other man . I have enough ( children ) to cater for . I just want to be able to start a new life.

I am not really educated ; I dropped out of school at Senior Secondary School 2 but I want something better for my children . I want them to have the best of education . My three boys were attending a public school while I was in prison. Life in prison is not good at all. Although they fed us , being in incarceration is never a good experience . My daughter was getting diapers through donations made by churches and mosques. My brother also brought (diapers ) for me . A group from Lagos , Anchor Heritage , came to the facility to train us to have some skills , especially on how to make decorations but I would prefer to go into trading if I get ( financial) assistance.
I met with the legal aid council on October 9 , 2018 when I was taken to court and she empathised with my daughter and promised to take over my case . I am from Ijebu - Jesa and my husband is from Ekiti State. His parents reside in Ido. They didn ’ t come to check on me while I was in prison and they were aware I was there. I called them and my brother also spoke to them in person , yet they were not moved.

Celebrities / Wale Jana Apologizes To Investors, Blames His Debts On Bad Business Strategies A by Osnuf34(m): 8:23am On May 29, 2020
Embattled business man and CEO of Sapphire Scents, Wale Jana has taken to social media to apologize to his investors.

This is coming after Wale Jana’s business crumbled and investors’ money got tied up.

Wale Jana blames poor decision making and business strategies crumbled his business.

See his apologies below…

Kemi Filani News earlier reported that popular activist and lawyer, Segalink picked up the case and moved to start up an independent recovery process to pay up the creditors.

According to Segalink who carried out an investigation on the matter, Wale did not intentionally defraud the investors, but he lacked exit plans and intentionally blocked investors after the business went South.

Revealing that an Investment Debt and An Independent Action for Recovery will be carried out against Wale Jana, Segalink shares a Press Release and wrote:

“PRESS RELEASE
ACTION ON MR WALE JANA (Sapphire Scent). (Investment Debt and An Independent Action for Recovery)”

“Distinguished All, we will soon be calling for claims and you will have the opportunity to state yours while we work towards getting you your capital back. Do keep in touch and stay tuned. Regards “

See some reactions to his apology below…

“What crumbled your business was your support of alleged Rape in the case of Busola and Biodun Fatoyinbo. When people came out en mass to burn your products bought with their money during that saga, you taught it was a joke and instead of you to make amends and distance yourself from the case you kept marching forward in arrogance like your pastor. Now look at you?.”

My question is “why do Nigerians like to give another person money to work and be giving them returns” this is why they fall for Ponzi schemes too. Invest in a company that is running already. Not one that doesn’t even have a strong background already. A business that just started, you gave them your hard earned money

Politics / FG To Submit List Of Food Vendors To EFCC As PDP Alleges N13.5b Scam In School F by Osnuf34(m): 9:57am On May 16, 2020
The federal government has announced its plan to submit a list of its food vendors to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), while also denying allegations of spending N679m ($1,739,881.82) daily on school feeding programme.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouk made the announcement after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alleged that the “school feeding claims by the Federal Government, when schools are shut due to COVID-19 pandemic, is a huge scam and a scheme by corrupt All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and some officials in the Buhari presidency to siphon a targeted N13.5 billion public funds to finance their wasteful lifestyles.”
The main opposition party which described “the use of innocent school children as cover to steal and funnel not less than N679 million daily to private purses as sacrilegious, wicked and completely unpardonable", added that "it is now clear that the APC-led administration’s school feeding programme had always been a scam, the claims to feed school children even when schools are closed are colossal racketeering taken too far.”
Sadiya Umar-Farouk who defended the federal government at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 on Friday May 15, denied claims of spending N679 million per day on the school feeding programme.
She said;
“For clarity, the programme which is funded by the federal government of Nigeria is implemented by the state governments and facilitated by the Federal Ministry of human Affairs, disaster Management and Social Development.
“And this programme, as modified is targeted at heads of the households, guardians and caregivers of these children – primary school pupils one to three.
“And also, we are not spending N679 million per day as alluded to, that number is inaccurate the take-home ration worth N4,200 per household and as planned as a monthly COVID-19 intervention for 3, 131,971 household in the participating states of the Federation.
“When the federal government ordered the closure of schools across the country in order to help flatten the curve on the COVID-19, it interrupted the school feeding programme, which is one of our Cardinal project has a government and which preceded the COVID-19 outbreak, because the programme was already ongoing food vendors had already been contacted and mobilized for the project.
“We are also mindful of the fact that most vendors having mobilised are made purchases Preparatory to the project as official. It’s not just possible to ask them for a refund. This has been done before the school calendar was disrupted.”
The Minister further revealed that they opted for a modified school programme because asking for a refund from vendors who have already bought food items in preparation for the project is impossible.
Sadiya added;
“That is how we arrived at the modified school feeding programme of taking food rations into the households of this children. So how we got our data with children at home was another issue. When children are enrolled in schools, as part of the registration process has a detailed register which contains the address of parents and guardians of every people is kept with the school as well as the class teachers. We also obtained those from SUBEB and other sources.
“Also, in the community where these are children live, every child’s home can be easily identified by members of that community and management of these schools. So to ensure full transparency so that the programme is not compromised, we are submitting a full list of all the vendors to the EFFC and let me also state here that these vendors have been in the structure since 2016. So, we’re using existing structure is not a whole new programme that were enrolling, no.
“The vendors that have been in the programme that we are using because they used to provide these food and materials to the cooks to cook.
“We have also invited other agencies of government including the DSS, EFFC, ICPC code of conduct and a host of NGOs and CSOs to help us monitor. I’m sure you agree with me yesterday, you must have noticed a large number of people participating in the process or in the flag off because we engage as many stakeholders as possible to be part of that being very mindful of the social distance guideline.
“I am going into some [details] in order to disapprove some misinformation and misunderstanding around modified programme and to ask Nigerians to support this for active intervention designed to keep our children fed during this pandemic, So that objective of this National home work school feeding programme is not compromised.”
Celebrities / 'he's A Danger To The Community' Judge Shuts Down R.kelly's Third Attempt To Get by Osnuf34(m): 7:38am On May 16, 2020
A judge has denied singer R.Kelly's request to leave jail due to the possibility of him contracting Covid-19, labeling Kelly a 'danger to the community' and a 'flight risk' .
This is the third time R.Kelly's attempts to leave jail on 'health conditions' is being dismissed by the court as he is being held in prison over child sex abuse allegations, transmission of STDS and kidnapping.
In his motion for bail, which was filed earlier this month, Kelly complained that he was diabetic and overweight and therefore more susceptible to Coronavirus complications, and complained that conditions in his prison had become filthy, and it was only a matter of time before he caught the virus.
His two previous attempts to leave jail have been dismissed as the court felt his 'Health' reasons were not strong enogh to grant him bail.
Judge Donnelly, while dismissing Kelly's application, said Kelly’s crimes involve the sexual abuse of minors that stretched for almost 25 years, and allegations like those do not merit bail. The judge said that although Kelly has insisted that if set free, he’d return to Illinois to stand trial like he did in his 2008 child porn trial, the grand jury found probable cause that he bribed witnesses in that case, and she doesn’t want a repeat of that alleged behavior.
''The defendant is charged in Illinois and New York with extraordinarily serious crimes, for which he faces a long prison term if convicted,” Judge Donnelly wrote in her decision
“That prospect makes him a flight risk. The nature of the charges—which include crimes against minor victims, threats against potential witnesses and paying bribes to keep witnesses from cooperating—make him a danger to the community, including that he could attempt to tamper with prospective witnesses.”
Kelly's trial starts later this year.

Crime / Nigerian Man Who Tweeted That The Nigerian Police Killed His Mum Had Lied by Osnuf34(m): 4:22pm On Apr 27, 2020
A guy with the Twitter handle @peterguavah had put the Nigeria Police on blast two days back. According to the story he told on Twitter, his mother who had been managing hypertension for the past 20 years had some sort of crisis yesterday so he had to take her to the hospital. On the way there, he met some police officers who were enforcing the lockdown.

According to him, they demanded the sum of N20, 000 to let him pass. He supposedly agreed and wanted to transfer the money to them however they demanded cold, hard cash as they transferred money could be traced to their accounts. While arguing with them, his mother died.

Now, the story must have gotten viral or something but it got to the attention of the Nigerian Police who reached out to him, wanting to get his account of the story and find out who the officers were. He didn’t get back to the police. Others got involved and it seems that he forget that he had told some people his mother died last year. He has since deleted his Twitter account thinking it’s going to go away.

He obviously had some form of brain freeze and wanted his 5 minutes of fame and wanted to bring opprobrium on the Nigerian Police now he’s the one in deep trouble

The Commissioner for Information in Kano state, Muhammad Garba, has said preliminary investigation shows the rising cases of death recorded in the state, is majorly caused by ''complications arising from hypertension, diabetes, meningitis and acute malaria''.
Garba disclosed this in a statement. Part of the statement reads
Although an investigation into the cause of the deaths is still ongoing, preliminary reports from the state Ministry of Health indicated that the deaths are not connected to the COVID-19 pandemic. Reports have shown that most of the deaths were caused by complications arising from hypertension, diabetes, meningitis, and acute malaria.
Moreso, the state government has three modern Isolation Centres where those tested positive to COVID-19 are being cared for. We are also hopeful of getting an additional two Isolation Centres soonest. The government has also hired a hotel where suspected cases are accommodated.
Also, the Kano State Government is collaborating with? Bayero University Kano to establish a testing centre within the institution, which will be ready in two weeks time after being certified by the NCDC. This will, indeed, enhance our determination to ensure that every suspected case undergo a test.”

How time flies. Exactly what he says is what is playing out now, 2020 still no change even worst than 2015 when Jonathan left office.

Politics / A Message About President Buhari In 2015 From A Nairalander Omeke by Osnuf34(m): 9:39am On Apr 26, 2020
I couldn't vote for Jonathan to continue cos I detested what my country was turning into under his administration so I never voted..

...

anytime I state this fact the first question I get is... "why didn't U vote for APC?"

...

I voted for APC in the Lagos Governorship election but didn't in the presidential elections not because I disliked their Ideology or mantra ( I craved for 'change') but because I couldn't convince myself (for d sake of my present and future family) to vote for Buhari because..

..

1...Buhari was a former President, former minister of petroleum and so many other top offices he held back then and yet he still tags himself as 'poor', borrowing money then to buy nomination forms. I'm not saying he should have embezzled our money but...for God's sake, it takes wisdom, vision and creativity to be a rich and successful man. Buhari couldn't create an empire with the "little" salary he made those days then I strongly don't believe he can change d fortunes of Nigeria.

it was shameful during asset declaration when I saw the wealth our VP has amassed for himself and his family, comparing it with that provided by our president who is meant to lead us out of brokeness.

..

2...Buhari has been contesting for presidency since 2003 and all those while as an aspirant, he never influenced katsina, Nigeria or Africa In any positive way, (he has no known charity foundation in his name), the only time one hears of Buhari then is when he makes Violence Inciting comments that leads to loss of lives especially in the north....

....

please fellow Nigerians, don't expect much from our president, he doesn't really have much to offer just pray for God to give him WISDOM and POWER not to lead us astray...

...Remember Nigeria is our country.
