Onogueks: @Otoks Prof Ajenekan hast tried so much for uniport. my admission can testify to that because majority of people got admitted through merit. So do you see uniport ASUU refusing to resume on the orders of the VC Prof Joseph Ajenekan?

There will not be a national database ever, not while the north is still a part of Nigeria so keep dreaming like the ex population chief.

My dear; was tempted to give up on Nigeria, the people are content sending their prayers to the clouds. Suffering and smilling, every day is the same, still no light in UNIPORT.

The president has done the right thing by denying the ultimatum. Dialogue cannot take place in a hostile environment. The students tho have been going to town insulting with reckless abandon.

I remember what happened in university of ilorin... Many of the lecturers died before the court ruled in favour of them... That's how ASUU became toothless there...
Its not in my place to say whether what he is doing is right or wrong. If the university authorities cannot monitor their staff ~ too bad. Do not put words in my mouth.

chidi4eze: We didn’t give ASUU ultimatum – Jonathan
on november 30, 2013 at 8:01 pm in news
By Samuel Oyadongha, Yenagoa
President Goodluck Jonathan has weekend, said his government did not give the  Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, an ultimatum to resume work or be sacked.
Fielding questions from newsmen at the expanded caucus meeting of the Bayelsa State Peoples Democratic Party held  at Government House, Yenagoa,  the President said, the Supervising Minister of Education only passed on the decision of  the Committee of Vice Chancellors.
“We didn’t give them ultimatum; it was the Committee of Vice Chancellors that took that decision. The Supervising Minister of Education only passed on the decision.”
Jonathan also said the strike embarked upon by the  ASUU  was no longer a trade dispute , but a  subversive action.

Jonathan
He said, “What ASUU is doing is no longer trade union. I have intervened in other labour issues before now, once I invite them they respond and after the meeting they take decision and call off the strike.
“At times we don’t even give them a long notice, unlike, in the case of ASUU that was given four days notice before the meeting. As you are meeting to resolve trade disputes, you expect the trade unions to get their officials ready.
“What was expected having met with the highest authorities in the land for long hours, was for ASUU to immediately issue statement within 12 or latest 24 hours , to state their position whether they were accepting government’s offer or not. And if they are not accepting they should state the reason for that.”
“But despite the fact that I had the longest meeting with ASUU in my political history, we did not start that meeting until around 2:00pm and the meeting ended the next day in the early hours.  As far as the government of Nigeria was concerned, all the critical people that should be in a meeting were there, so what else do they want?
“After that they didn’t meet until one week, despite the fact that you met with the highest authority. It was unfortunate one of them, Prof. Iyayi died.
“The way ASUU has conducted the matter shows they are extreme and when Iyayi died, they now said the strike was now indefinite, our children have been at home for over five months.”
Oga GEJ have your Attorney General and Minister of Justice sign the agreement. The NLC president will sign as a witness on behalf of the Nigerian people.

Onogueks: @Otoks stop calling it a war. ASUU can never stage a contest with FG. not even now that FG has the support of students, parents and even lecturers eg unilag faction. you need to see lecturers talking on channels tv. there is division and betrayal in ASUU camp already. united FG stands, divided ASUU falls.
There are lecturers and there are lecturers, ASUU is united and has the backing of Nigerians who are not moved by cheap talk. NLC, TUC, and all allied unions are gidigba for ground. December 4th is the D day although GEJ is now trying to correct the goof but the date is already marked, CNN, BBC and aljazeera will carry it live.

you guys will be registering and doing first semester while the other will be in second semester, this was the arrangement prior to WIKE's outburst. It is going to be very demanding on the lecturers but alas its a bit of a mirage now not with everybody gearing up for war of the 4th.

Debbylily: ASUU strike or no ASUU strike, nothing pass God......uniport wants to dry us, 77k 4 sch. fees.GOD dey sha
That is where your student union should gather you peeps together and protest. ASUU too will then join you guys in grounding the university to ensure a drastic reduction but instead the students are saying ASUU should be lenient to FG or some rubbish.
Education › Re: 2015/2016 Uniport Admission Thread by otokx(m): 4:46pm On Nov 30, 2013
It is the FG that is gambling with the future of Nigerian students. How is GEJ lenient? laffs... An offer is not an agreement so what are you talking about. Lecturers have not been paid for months they did not die you are talking of christmas.. laffs. You obviously are getting the pointers wrong so really no need to explain further.

There is a prof i know who was singing lets call off cos his children are now in uniport and people looked at him with great pity. This prof spends most time chasing contracts in oil coy leaving jnr lecturers to teach the bulk of his course - these are the type that are ready to sign but can they work? No, because its the younger ones doing the hard task.

@kyle kent

This is no retreat no surrender fight to the death mode that WIKE has turned Nigeria to. Truth be told you students are on the receiving end. NANS knows it so they are taking a neutral stand. ASUU has never had their salaries withheld/forfeited in any strike - that is history and this wont be an exception. It is not a crime if students receive lectures in a conducive environment but if you are content receiving it in the open field - kudos to you. This Nigeria belongs to Nigerians so if WIKE wants to sack all the lecturers let him try it - surprise will be definition of his countenance.

ellyrichy: So tell us why the President is using coercion now. As for me I think the mastermind is Nyesom Wike, just come and see the underdevelopment in our university and this govt officials would send their wards to the best Yankee school with a lot of allowances with our countries wealth, please shine your eyes and don't be deceived by govt propaganda. Didn't they make militants billionaires and now they currently have their own private jets. What stops govt from committing and signing this already agreed document. Government is playing a psychological game on your people, cos one's bitten twice shy.
Leadership in Nigeria is characterized by the art of sycophancy. Leaders surround themselves with people that will always give wrong counsel. The leaders make no effort to go into the followership to find out how they fare thus there is a disconnect.

When last did GEJ drive himself to the airports to see things for himself unannounced? If he just tried he would have seen that the contractors are not on ground talk less of doing any work as is the case in Port Harcourt Airport.

When last did the UNIPORT mgt stroll down to ofrimma MBA1 hall to see students receiving lectures in a badly lit and stuffy place? In fact with no nepa the lecturers voice is hadly heard by those standing in front and all around him. Those standing and sweating are more than those sitting and suffering who are in a different world for they are like the deaf, dumb & blind seeing the lecturers lips moving but hearing nothing, when he writes on the board they see nothing either.

Bad leadership is the reason for this strike to have lingered for so long. Government must provide lecture halls in proportion to the number of students the university has.

Nerosoft19: u can neva fight n win d government.. Its impossible to kill a mosquito using a gun. kuddos to ASUU for d fight for better education but ryt now d whole fight seems just futile. Its a good fight but its been fought in d wrong way... Ryt now jonathan needs d youths for 2015 so this moves jus seems to b anada strategy to please dem n get dier support.. We all want to go baq to schl n he has sent us baq to schl. ASUU on the oda hand hav been too rigid, to get something from a politician u need to b political... ASUU has been adamant, religious leaders, parents even madmen hav appealed to dem for the past five months but still nothing.. This could b frustrating i really dont blame d goverment.... All i see now is betrayal, bcoz most of the lecturers who are in one voice now come 4th of december will jude d union n go to work. ASUU is just a union, dey dunt employ, dismis or pay anybody i bliv, those that wise will comply wit higher authority
There is freedom of decision, if a lecturer decides to go and sign the attendance register which in itself is an acceptance of slavery and goes to teach you nerosoft, the sky will not fall down neither will ASUU. Its not by highness of authority, 4th december will show you the power of the robustness of intellectuals in their resolve to withstand the tyranny of deceit. We have been down that road many times and we shall and must over come for the greater good of Nigeria.

There can be nothing like gentleman agreement; government must be held accountable to their words.
Education › Re: 2015/2016 Uniport Admission Thread by otokx(m): 3:03pm On Nov 30, 2013
Onogueks: @Otoks, ASUU neglected students by not consulting them before going on strike. they claim to fight for our welfare yet they hold secret meetings which they didnt inform us. ASUU demands to be paid their salaries when they didnt work. then where are the salaries of students that have been at home for months? Fg hasn't been fair to ASUU and nigerians. in the same vein ASUU hasn't been fair to nigerian students. wish ASUU will pay our 5 months house rents wasted, then i will support fg to pay them too
Lets watch and see how things unfold, there is no need talking from today till tomorrow. The unpaid salaries will be paid whether you support them or not. You who have chosen to stay off camp will have to pay your rent when it expires. This is the harsh reality on ground.
The referendum still stands; ASUU isn't pusyfooting nor adding more request. All they want is that the agreement be signed, not just by the FG but by both the Finance minister, cbn governor Nlc chairman; as well as immediate provision of an account with cbn with an initial fund from the FG to show it means business.

What is hard in that?
It is very hard for the FG to sign the agreement, they will prefer a gentle mans agreement.
