kowema:That is what makes Lasgidi unique. ![]() |
KashyBaby:You welcome Ma`am. |
Lagos is home for a all kids of characters. For new comers to get the best Lagos has to offer, here are the lists of people to avoid having your sanity intact. You can add your. The Danfo Drivers. You must avoid this set of guys as you drive along Lagos roads. They are one of the numerous entertainers that make Lagos fun. These guys believe that they are above the law. I don’t know where they obtain the authority to park and drop passengers at any point on the express way. Blocking the express way while waiting for a passenger who is mile away is a norm to them. You are not allowed to pass unless their buses are filled. Allow them display their madness and waka pass jejely. If you dare confront them with your vehicle, be sure that your vehicle will get re-painted with Lagos colour for free. The Area Boys The Oba cannot claim ownership of Lagos more these guys. They are government pikin and have special license to collect tolls from every commercial vehicle that ply the road. Every bus stop has its own Area boys. If you want to know if they have special license to operate, try and collect your own tolls from a bus stop. The Police Yes the police, you heard me. They may be your friend in Ekiti, Anambra or Abuja but not in Lagos. Police is just a common hustler in Lagos. They occupy an enviable position in list of people to avoid in Lagos. If you want to maintain your sanity avoid this folks. Try as much as you can to settle all your disputes without involving them. Having all your vehicular and personal papers intact will save you from their traps. Falling into their traps can deplete your life savings. The Omo Oni Iles These are the real land owners. If you like buy your land directly from Fashola himself, you will never be able to develop that piece without settling these boys. As much as you can, do the needful and avoid their troubles. They can send you packing if you dare them. Army and Police may not be always around to sort you on this. The Scammers These are the most dangerous on the list. They come in different guise. From religion to selling of fake products. They are in every bus stops, markets, mosques, churches, streets, etc. The list is endless, I have been in some buses where merchants advertise pharmaceutical products that can cure everything including cancer. News of fake pastors and imams duping Lagosians will always make headlines. Ask PM news for more details. |
I will join this guy when he gets to Onitsha bridge. |
This must be a joke! |
ebudizzle:People are complaining of pages not loading and you are still asking for screen shots. Na wa for you. |
With the kind of hates comment on JK from fellow Yoruba makes me conclude that we are far from being called a nation. |
I was woken up this morning by news of defection from political parties especially PDP members and I said to myself these are the real enemies of our nascent democracy. These are merely fighting for their pockets. News like this weaken our democracy. Members of a political parties over the world are the sole of the party. Come rain or sunshine, they stay because they believe that they are part of what the party stands for. Our democracy is filled with people with no philosophy or direction. I don`t know how this kind of news sound to career politicians. Lagos is Yoruba, Lagos is Hausa, Lagos is Igbo, Lagos is Nigeria. Lagos is the only state in Nigeria where all tribes and tongues are represented in numbers. As the defacto capital of Nigeria, Lagos has always played the role of big brother by providing the check in our democracy even when all other voices has been suppressed. The political role Lagos has played since the birth of Nigeria can never ever be under estimated. Cough in Lagos and Nigeria catches fever. Lagos is the voice of the voiceless, it has played the opposition to check the excesses of our leaders both in military and civilian governments. Though people will argue that Lagos has suffered more as an opposition state but we have forgotten that it will be difficult for any government at the center operating under our constitution to deliberately starve any opposition state of fund or infrastructures. It was under OBJ that funds meant for the states was seized as result of constitutional conflicts in LCDA/LGA creation at that time. Under GEJ Lagos has been getting it allocation combined with IGR which has helped the state to run smoothly and also play a good check on the central governmant. I still wonder which other state can play that opposition role. Kano? Akwa Ibom? Ogun? Anambra? Ekiti? Eboyin? Taraba? Kebbi? No, no no, none of these can. I believe under Agbaje Lagos will be a rallying point for the opposition to check the central government. Pocket Lagos and our democracy is dead. This is my humble opinion..... |
Laid2001:Clap for yourself you sabi act film, Ode!!! You speak as if we dont live in Lagos whenever he is around or all policemen will blind their eyes from seeing other crimes. Did notice the presence of policemen in these areas on that day? Keep lieing to yourself in a bid to defend a bigger lie. |
rebranded:With the little saw-dust look at what you spewed. From the number of security men around where he was, you should be able to deduce the total number of security operatives that will be on standby. Not everyone worship your god Fashola, when he guff we should condemn it. He has been acting like a baby lately. |
SergeAlain:Thanks bro. You got a tight head up there. |
dondo83:Dont tell me you believe the figure Fash is giving out to support his claim. SMH for you |
PDPwayoo:What made you think am an Easterner. You see how you reason very senseless if you ask me. |
uselessgoat:Awon ara ile ee lo n bawi |
Segeggs:No sane police man will do a stop and search on a free flowing road. They either look for a bend or a pothole or a speed breaker to do their stop and search, knowing that Lagos drivers can run over them if they try stopping them on a free flowing traffic. ![]() |
Segeggs:I hope you stay in Nigeria. Stop and search happens everyday in Nigeria, Lagos especially. Road blocks are unofficial toll gates for policemen. Stop and search didnt just happen only when Jona is in town. Heavy traffic is an everydaything in Lagos. Abi na Jona cause that one too. For the First Lady`s visit, I cant say much cause I was not in town the day she visited. |
Segeggs:Why defend him when you dont have the figures. Are you a robot? |
Segeggs:We have accepted it and made it a norm. Almost all the states have joint force team with guns patrolling the states. These are one of the many things we should ask to stop. |
braine:Bros please come up with figures of Policemen stationed around town that add up to 2,123. If you have nothing sensible to contribute, pleas shut up. |
Segeggs:Uncle am not daft. I drove through this routes you mentioned and I could not see your ghost Policemen. We all live in Lagos, I wonder how you will station 2,123 policemen and Lagosians wouldnt know. Hate has blinded you my guy. Soldiers moving round town is a norm please get that. So OP MESA moves round with toy guns? |
We do not need to look too far to know those who are heating up the polity. The politicians has done more damage to this country while pretending to offer favour or protect the masses. Gov. Fashola is one of the few politicians I have respect for, but his recent utterances for his party is making me rethink if his intentions are genuine. His statements on this were not backed with facts, he must has been fed with lies. He transmitted same lies without verification. As usual on that fateful day, I came down from one of the tall buildings on Marina to go visit one of the bukar joint in the hood tha I have been patronizing for years and was greeted with security men. I asked one of the passersbyers what is going on? Shey don wan carry money from CBN ni, I asked. No ooo, na Oga Jona dey town, he dey inside NSE, she replied. Na when him come town? I queried further. Dem say he sneak enter the place. Well that na im problem, I left the place to get my stomach filled by the next street. From Union Bank border of Marina, we have 3 military personnel with 2 policemen controlling the traffic. From First bank end to Kakawa House we have 5 military personnel and from CBN to Tinubu Square we have about 6 military men. These men were courteous unlike our usual security men. There approach was very civil. I went round these places because, some street were blocked and you have no choice than to go round. And I must visit my favorite joint whether Jona like am or not. In all both visible and invisible security men for Jonathan were not up to 50. From my count policemen were not up to 10, the rest were military guys. I wonder where this figure 2,123 came from |
drshrewd:You guys are so ignorant of the kind of robbery going on in Nigeria. Kano with it fake population census receive from FG every month what 6 states receive in a month. He did no miracle. They receive far more than what states with oil receive. |
Whoever constructed that lie is an enemy of Nigeria. It passes my understanding how some people will cook such a story just to sow distrust and hate. APC followers abeg make una take am easy. |
Oga Seun we need your attention. Speak and let know your opinion. |
voltron:It seems like you are new on this forum. Majority Onliners (Nairalanders) vote and stay put at the polling station to send updates. Before, INEC officially announce result, in most cases we already know who won. Are these Offliners? Are they ghosts? Are they not flesh and blood? are they not Nigerians. My guy I do not need to emphasize the role of mass and social medias in our day to day life. The call may appear irrelevance to you but matters to many. |
tpacalipse:I dont mean Seun can single handedly stop violence. Trust me, messages put on front page goes a long way in making people change their view about certain things. I personally have read many stories here that have changed my view about some subject. |
lwise:I wish he can read this and act. |
Firefire:The message should get to you first and then APC. No politician is worth fighting or dieing for. |
Dear Seun, Our very own Oga Seun. Christmas, New Year and Eid celebrations has come and gone. As a nation we have our general election staring us in the face. I am a man of few words. I will try as much as I can to pass my message. I do not need to emphasize the role of the media in the forthcoming election and in our daily life. No doubt Nairaland is a leading online forum in Nigerian and in Africa. Nigerians in Nigeria and beyond the shores of Africa share views and opinions on this platform. Nairaland has provided the platform for some us to show our support and solidarity for one political party or the other. Some are here to share life issues, while others are for business. Some are in for jokes while others are for scams. There are these categories of people who are experts in making inflammable provocative statements here in Nairaland that could trigger a fight or lead to ethnic/religious confrontation. What am not sure is if these guys have been well paid to make some of these statements. I respect the right for everyone to air their views even if it`s no popular but some statement could be threat to our existence as a people. Most of the users of this forum are commoners (average Nigerians) who are here to grab one information or the other. Most times instead of getting the right information, the innocents are misinformed and seed of hatred sown in them. How can we continue in this path and expect to move forward? Almost all our elections are characterized with violent carried by these innocent commoners. Some of these commoners don’t even know why or what they are fighting for. They did not wake up in one night and start burning and killing people. They only need to hear or see some comments made by our politicians and their aids. There are no direct contacts with the politicians yet they carry out their bid because their comments have been taken to the streets where it is needed through the media. I am yet to find a child of an elite who has physically participated in the act of burning and killing after elections. They are well shielded from the streets. As a people whoever wins shouldn’t be a problem, there are several other peaceful ways to remove an unwanted or illegal leader. We can still use these tools. We stand to lose a whole lot if we allow violent of any sorts during this election. We all live together to sort our daily bread despite our different political views. We must stand to defend ourselves, we must stand to defend our children, we must defend our parents. We must all stand and defend our country. As a member of Nairaland Forum, I hereby humbly request that you start a campaign of “VIOLENT FREE ELECTION” that will be on the front page of Nairaland till the end of the election. We want no war, we want no riot, we want no fight. All we want is a peaceful election. We are Nairalanders, we are Nigerians, we are peaceful people. Thank you. OurNaija |
