Great Awolowo! Tinubu's Mentor. Cocoa House in Ibadan, NTA, Coca Cola franchise in Nigeria, free education...these and many others were legacies that he left behind. May his soul rest in peace. What do you want people to say about you when you die? |
Mike Adenuga is often called "The Bull" because he doesn't just enter a market; he breaks the door down. When he launched Globacom (Glo), he was late. MTN and Econet (now Airtel) had already captured the Nigerian market. They had millions of customers. They had the infrastructure. They had the lead. Most business experts would have said: "The market is saturated. There is no space for you." But Adenuga used a strategy called The Value Disruption. Here is what happened: At that time, MTN and Econet were charging subscribers Per Minute. If you made a call for 10 seconds, they charged you for the full 60 seconds (N50). Nigerians hated this. They complained bitterly. But the giants (MTN & Econet) told us: "It is technically impossible to do Per Second Billing right now. Maybe in 3 years." Adenuga didn't try to compete by having better signal or nicer offices. He attacked the one thing the giants refused to fix. When Glo launched, they didn't just launch with a new logo. They launched with Per Second Billing. Overnight, the "Impossible" became possible. The "Giant's" excuse crumbled. Millions of Nigerians abandoned their old SIM cards and moved to Glo. Not because they loved Mike Adenuga, but because he solved their Pain Point. Because of this one move, the older giants were forced to crash their prices and adopt per-second billing just to survive. Adenuga didn't beg for market share; he took it by changing the rules of the game. Why am I telling you this? If you are entering a business where there are already big players (a saturated market): Do not try to copy them. If you copy them, you will lose, because they have more money than you. Instead, look for what they are doing wrong. What are customers complaining about? What are the "Giants" too arrogant to fix? If you can solve the one thing the Giants are ignoring, it doesn't matter if you are late. You will win. Don't just be a competitor. Be a Disruptor. I hope you learned something.

CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE ON HER SON'S DEATH "My son would be alive today if not for an incident at Euracare Hospital on January 6th. We were in Lagos for Christmas. Nkanu had what we first thought was just a cold, but soon turned into a very serious infection and he was admitted to Atlantis hospital. He was to travel to the US the next day, January 7th, accompanied by Travelling Doctors. A team at Johns Hopkins was waiting to receive him in Baltimore. The Hopkins team had asked for a lumbar puncture test and an MRI. The Nigerian team had also decided to put in a 'central line' (used to administer iv medications) in preparation for Nkanu's flight. Atlantis hospital referred us to Euracare Hospital, which was said to be the best place to have the procedures done. The morning of the 6th, we left Atlantis hospital for Euracare, Nkanu carried in his father's arms. We were told he would need to be sedated to prevent him from moving during the MRI and the 'central line' procedure. I was waiting just outside the theater. I saw people, including Dr M, rushing into the theater and immediately knew something had happened. A short time later, Dr M came out and told me Nkanu had been given too much propofol by the anesthesiologist, had become unresponsive and was quickly resuscitated. But suddenly Nkanu was on a ventilator, he was intubated and placed in the ICU. The next thing I heard was that he had seizures. Cardiac arrest. All these had never happened before. Some hours later, Nkanu was gone It turns out that Nkanu was NEVER monitored after being given too much propofol. The anesthesiologist had just casually carried Nkanu on his shoulder to the theater, so nobody knows when exactly Nkanu became unresponsive. How can you sedate a sick child and neglect to monitor him? Later, after the 'central line' procedure, the anesthesiologist casually switched off Nkanu's oxygen and again decided to carry him on his shoulder to the ICU! The anesthesiologist was CRIMINALLY negligent. He was fatally casual and careless with the precious life of a child. No proper protocol was followed. We brought in a child who was unwell but stable and scheduled to travel the next day. We came to conduct basic procedures. And suddenly, our beautiful little boy was gone forever. It is like living your worst nightmare. I will never survive the loss of my child. We have now heard about two previous cases of this same anesthesiologist overdosing children. Why did Euracare allow him to keep working? This must never happen to another child." Chimamanda Adichie

Politics in Nigeria is nothing different from our traditional monarchy. Fathers transitioning power to their children as if it is royalty...leadership flows in their bloodline. Obasa of Lagos (Agege) brought in his son as Chairman while he upholds the position of the speaker of the house, Lagos State House of Assembly. Wike is also rooting for his son in Rivers State House of Assemble. Tinubu the Jagaban of Borgu himself is tagging his son and wife along...the list goes on. Now, here is my question...are there no competent people elsewhere to occupy this position out the over 250 million population of Nigeria? If those who were there did what you are all doing now, would you be privileged to be in the position you occupy today? The likes of Nnamdi Azikwe, Awolowo, Amodu Bello, Herbert Marculy who stated this political nationalist movement in Nigeria didn't plan it like this at all. If they had, there wouldn't have been any Tinubu, Obasa or Wike of today. Mind you, let me deviate a bit, this trend is not only in politics, it is eroding into our religious organizations as well...which is very funny to me. Bishop Oyedepo of Winners Chapel changing the name of the church to Bishop Oyedepo Ministries and ordaining/preparing his children to take after him. The same thing applies to other notable General Overseers and church founders. If Pastor Akindayomi of blessed memory had thought about this, he wouldn't have handed over the RCCG to Pastor Enoch Adeboye. He would have just handed over to any of his children or wife. Pastor T.B. Joshua's wife is the one in charge of the church now too. Well, make I just relax and follow the trend. If e reach my turn, me sef no go allow my enemies reap the fruits of my labour. Wetin I kukuma know sef? ![]() |
If you care to know why Nigeria will always be rated low in Africa when it comes to Best English Speaking Countries in Africa? Please think about this... Do you know how much the British Government makes from the IELTS/TOEFL and other English Language proficiency tests in Nigeria? We have the population and burning demand that will bring in millions of pounds for them on a yearly basis. If e reach your turn, make you allow your best customer to waka pass without taking the test. I go lie for you? |

@OP, I agree with you. There is something truly excellent about this man, he has really transformed Oyo state. There is rumour flying around that the recent shake in his cabinet was as a result of SSG leaking the document relating to the #50 Billion from Federal Government to his political enemies such as Wike and Fayose. Could this be true? |
Bimbo Ademoye once said in one of her interviews that her favourite part of Chicken to eat is the leg, head and neck. To those of you who blame the woman, have you ever considered if the girl could have shared same interest with Bimbo and told her boss. The fact that you don't like the parts does mean other people don't have cravings for it. |
The picture attached below is a rare picture of Governor Bola Tinubu and his first deputy, Kofo Akerele-Bucknor in 2002 shortly before she resigned her position. Tinubu actually served as governor of Lagos for eight years with three different deputy governors at different times. 1. Kofo Akerele-Bucknor (1999–2002) was his first deputy. They later had political disagreements that led to the probe of the deputy governor. Closing up to her impeachment, she resigned in December 2002. 2. Femi Pedro (2002–2007): He was appointed after Akerele-Bucknor’s resignation. He actually served the longest almost completing the second term with Tinubu. He later became a governorship aspirant, had issues with the governor, and got impeached by the State House of Assembly. Many years later, the House pardoned him and reinstated his benefits. 3. Abiodun Ogunleye: He served the shortest and in the buildup to Tinubu's handing over in 2007. He took the oath of office shortly before the end of Tinubu’s tenure. Credit: Ethnic African Stories

"Hmmm😭😭....l remember when my husband wanted to get married to me, but because l already had one child as a Single Mother and l was an Actress then, his friends and some family members kicked against it, they were like does he know the rúbbísh & dirty things l already did with my life that resulted to me being a Single Mother😭. On our engagement day all his friends refused to come with him to our house because they don't want him to get married to me. In fact, the owner of the car he already pleaded with to bring him and all what my family members requested from him as Engagement items disappointed him. My husband had to go and rent Lagos state Danfo bus to bring Yam and other Engagement items to our house and he was the only one that prostrated to ask my hand in marriage before my parents, my younger brother later joined him. It was later when we were almost done that his family members started showing face . My Husband just insisted he must get married to me not minding the opinion of friends and relatives. I thank God for today and the reason why l am sharing this testimony is to prove that God Almighty doesn't like sharing his Glory with anyone, more reason why those people disappointed my husband on our engagement day" -- Evangelist Tope Alabi recounts what God did in her family.

HISTORY - S.T SOAP: THE RISE AND FALL OF A PROMISING INDIGENOUS YORÙBÁ BRAND Late Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu’s quality item, S.T Soap, immediately turned into an easily recognized name during the 80s into the 90s, due to its potency, packaging, and rhythmic advert jingle which practically turned into a public hymn, particularly in the South West, which obviously was responsible for the fame and excessive demand in the market by all. In 1979 Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu popularly known as S.T began what was referred to as S.T Soaps Limited with the amount of 5,000 naira (N5000). In an interview with L’abe Orun Program, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu said he got N3000 from his father after which he added his own N2000. Before starting S.T Soaps Limited, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu was buying Garri from Auchi and reselling it in Lagos. The business kept expanding, S.T Soaps extended from the passageways of his home to raising a cutting-edge processing plant in Ijebu-Mushin, Ogun State. Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu Worked and thrived from his monstrous industrial facility, with huge loads of laborers in his workforce. Notwithstanding his small degree of Education, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu understood the significance of commercials on viable showcasing, he contributed a gigantic entirety on being noticed despite the huge amount of money it cost him, the brand’s Jingle on the then Radio Nigeria and across media houses actually inspires nostalgic musings. By the mid-’90s, the organization grew from the popular S.T Soap to making polythene products having over 1,000 labour force the majority of which were indigenes of Ijebu-Mushin. You’ll definitely remember the S.T soap advert that goes thus: Call: Ose S.T mare oo Response: eee Call: Ose S.T mare oo Response: eee Call: Okan dara fun we lasan Response: eee Call: Okan dara faso fifo Response: eee Call: Elo S.T ke ridi oro wa All: Gbogbo kokoro ara ojobo, gbogbo idoti yen o le raiye, eela ishaka ewa bi gba lo, on foso mo kii jaso o sa, ole koko kii jewo o jare. Call: Ose S.T mare oo Response: eee Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu’s irregular downfall started in October 2004 when the assembly line laborers at his S.T Soaps Limited started to racket for a “staff association” with the excuse that they were being used as a slave in the manufacturing company. Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu was purportedly disappointed with the possibility of a staff association inside the premises of his business, he contended that the thought isn’t proper in a sole ownership enterprise, the S.T Soaps Limited staffs who affirmed that they are being abused by the organization’s administration, started a protest by abandoning their tasks. During the dissent, one of the staff of S.T Soaps Limited purportedly damaged a mixing machine worth five million naira. This incensed Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu who welcomed the police to capture the miscreant however on getting to the scene the police terminated irregularly noticeable all around and captured everyone they discovered including non-staffs and outsiders. One of the locals (a deaf kid) was said to have been hit by a stray bullet. The police contribution made a total pandemonium, the residents were angered, they promised to annihilate the manufacturing plant, S.T Soaps Limited if the arrested indigenes were not delivered from police custody, the old women threatened to protest naked with a left foot sandal and a left earring, realizing the consequences of his actions, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu called for the released of the protesters and everyone arrested at the scene. Eventually, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu had to give in to the demands of his workers by giving room for a labour union despite the fact that S.T Soaps Limited was a sole ownership enterprise just to allow peace reign. However, in an interview, he claimed that allowing the workers’ association worsened the issue and the employees started feeling high and mighty. He said they started demanding an increment in salary incessantly and they were wasting the company products unnecessarily. He gave an instant when they would mix soda used in making soap after which they would abandon the mixed soda and request for a meeting with their employer, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu himself. If he couldn’t show up due to one reason or the other, they would refuse to work and waste the mixed soda. Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu maintained that those usually spearheading such acts were the indigenes of Ijebu-Mushin, he said they had a sense of entitlement since Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu himself wasn’t an indigene of Ijebu-Mushin. To curb the wastage of resources and motivate a smooth flow of activities in the organization, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu sacked about fifty of the indigenous employees encouraging the unethical acts but it only worsened the issue as the whole community was displeased with this particular action. It took the mediation of the police D.P.O and a well reputable chief of Ijebu-Mushin to suppress the developing unsettling influence, the two players; Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu and the S.T Soaps Limited staffs were called to a roundtable and a mutual ground was reached in the month of November 2004. However, on Friday, May 13th, 2005, five policemen from the Elewe-Eran police station, Abeokuta, stormed the processing plant, S.T was arrested, one lepper from a nearby town called Baba Oníkèké had implicated him in a kidnapping and ritual case, Baba Baba Oníkèké who was a lepper asserted that Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu routinely purchases human parts from him. Baba Oníkèké insisted that he sold two human eyes to Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu for Two thousand naira. When Baba Oníkèké was told to identify Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu, he couldn’t point out who Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu was between him and his managers. On hearing this, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu’s first house, second house, and office were scoured by the police, however, nothing was found, the legal dispute ranges for a while yet the case was at last excused by His revered, O.S Moronfolu of the Magisterial district, Chief Magistrate court, Ijebu-Ode on June 7th, 2005 Following these occurrences, unfortunately for him, the ritual allegation case against Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu ruined him. As someone who used to be very popular and prominent on the Ijebu social scene and even beyond, he suddenly went low, while his once thriving and booming soap business, S.T Soap also went under and comatose; which ultimately forced him to leave the scene, and retired into more private and secluded life for years, with nothing virtually heard about him or his whereabouts. Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu couldn’t recapture his feet, His once-mighty industry, S.T Soaps Limited became history. He went into depression, his life never stays as before. In an interview, he said his greatest mistake in life was employing a larger percentage of Ijebu-Mushin indigenes anytime he had to recruit workers. He maintained that they had a great sense of entitlement and strongly believed that they are the reason he was successful. Affirming the toll with the ritual allegations had on him and his wave-making and profitable soap business. A case, he believed it was maliciously orchestrated by his detractors, at that time but the deed is done. No one heard anything about the great Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu of S.T Soaps Limited again until October 5, 2020, when the news that he kicked the bucket filtered out. The great indigenous industrialist died at the age of 64 following quite a while of engaging an undisclosed ailment. Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu was survived by many wives, children, grandchildren, with a vast estate. According to family sources, he was laid to rest the same day he died according to Islamic rites.

This is serious! Is this for real? 212bn is even more than the yearly budget of many countries in Africa. |
This is very deep o. See the margin between the salary of Ooni of Ife and Alafin of Oyo. Folorunsho Alakija did not study Geology. She started as a Secretary. Then she became a Fashion Designer. Yet, she beat the global oil giants at their own game. Most people think she just "got lucky" with an oil license. But the truth is, she used a strategy called The "Rejected Stone" Advantage. Here is what happened: In the 90s, she applied for an oil license. The powers that be gave her OPL 216. They didn't give her this block because they liked her. They gave it to her because nobody else wanted it. It was "Deep Offshore" (Deep Water). At that time, the technology to drill that deep was expensive and risky. The big companies (Shell, Mobil) wanted the easy, shallow water. They thought they gave her a "useless" paper. She saw a "Golden Ticket." She knew she didn't have the billions to drill. But she had the Rights. She approached Texaco (now Chevron). She told them: "I have the access. You have the technology. Let's work." She didn't try to dig with her hands. She used her "Paper" as equity to attract a giant. This is the most important lesson. When they finally struck oil (the massive Agbami Field), the Government was shocked at the volume. They got jealous. The Government tried to use a decree to forcefully take back 50% of her stake. Most people would have bowed to the Federal Government out of fear. Alakija sued them. She fought the Federal Government in court for 12 years. She refused to settle. She refused to be bullied. Eventually, the Supreme Court ruled in her favor, restoring her full stake. Why am I telling you this? Don't despise the "Hard" road: Just because an opportunity looks difficult (Deep Water) doesn't mean it's bad. That is often where the biggest treasure is hidden. Defend your Value: In business, creating wealth is one thing. Keeping it is the real war. You must have the audacity to fight for what is yours, even if you are fighting a Giant. She went from sewing clothes to owning one of the most prolific oil blocks in Africa. Not by luck. But by Grit. Nairalanders! I hope you learnt something today.

What stupid thing have you ever done for your crush for the sake of love? Share your experience. I saw someone's experience and it is very funny 🤣🤣🤣...guys, can you easily relate with this experience attached below? Nigerian man recounts how adding his ex-girlfriend to his HMO plan 'as wife' has turned into a long-term financial burden, years after their breakup — even after she got married and welcomed a child🤦🏽♂️💔 According to him, she still uses the free healthcare benefits, and removing her now could put his job at risk. I did for love… I added her (my ex) to my HMO plan as my wife, ever since she has been using free healthcare since we broke up, now she is married.

Innocent Chukwuma (Innoson) Became A Billionaire With Simple Mathematics. Most people think he made his money just by "building cars." But his real secret is something called Unit Economics. He beat every competitor in the market not because his product was better, but because his process was smarter. Here is the "Real Thing" that happened: In the 80s, every businessman in Nnewi was importing motorcycles from Japan and China. They imported them "Whole" (fully assembled). Because a motorcycle is bulky, a 40ft container could only hold about 40 motorcycles. This made the landing cost very high. Innocent Chukwuma looked at this and asked: "Why are we shipping air?" He realized that if he disassembled the motorcycles and stacked the parts (tires with tires, frames with frames), the same container could hold 200 motorcycles. This single calculation changed everything. His competitors paid shipping for 40 units. He paid the same shipping for 200 units. His cost per unit dropped drastically. While competitors were selling motorcycles for N150,000, Innoson started selling for N80,000, and he was still making a profit. He didn't need to fight them. His math forced them out of business. Once he started assembling bikes locally, he realized he was buying a lot of plastic parts from outside. Again, he did the math. "Why import plastic when I can melt it here?" He opened a plastics factory to feed his motorcycle assembly. That same plastics factory later allowed him to start making car dashboards and bumpers. He didn't wake up and build a car plant. He built the components first, then the car followed. Why am I telling you this? Many small business owners are losing money because they are "Shipping Air." You are importing bulky bottles instead of the raw liquid. You are buying from a middleman who buys from a middleman. You are wasting space in your delivery truck. Innoson teaches us that the profit is often hidden in the Logistics. If you can figure out how to move your product cheaper than your neighbor, you have already won. Don't just look at the selling price. Look at the Packing Process. I hope you learned something.

The former president of Nigeria, General Olusegun Obasanjo, came to my house with all the fully armed security agents you can think of. My family was in serious panicking mood. After the meal, he washed his hands and brought out a letter asking me to read and sign. As I was reading, I saw it was my Resignation Letter as the PDP Chairman written by Obasanjo himself, a drop of water fell from my eyes, as I looked up, the security guards moved closer, I requested to go inside and get a pen, Obasanjo instantly brought out a pen from his pocket, 'this is pen sign it immediately". I signed and he told me 'Chairman, you know that for what you said today, you shouldn't be my Chairman again..." I remained dumb until he left. Thirty minutes after, he came again, I thought they wanted to kill me, I went to meet him outside, he brought out the letter and said 'you didn't put date there, oya write today's date below your signature'. I did and he left. It was a traumatic night for me and my family." - Audu Ogbe
