AWUJALE SELECTION: GOVERNOR ABIODUN RESPONDS TO MISLEADING REPORTS

Ogun State Governor, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, has clarified circulating reports suggesting a confrontation between him and the Council of Afobajes regarding the Awujale selection. According to official sources, these claims are completely false and misleading.

The Governor held a respectful consultative meeting with the Council of Afobajes, consistent with meetings he held in the past with the Olori Ebis that were hitherto polarized which fostered their harmonization and, through such earlier engagements, he also persuaded one of the kingmakers to withdraw a filed litigation.
The discussions he had focused on matters of mutual concern in the interest of the progress in traditional affairs within Ijebuland.

Contrary to the rumors, Governor Abiodun did not issue threats, ultimatums. Statements attributed to him, including “No Kuye, No Awujale”, are entirely fabricated and bear no relation to the Governor or his administration. No Afobaje will attest to such an occurrence, as it never happened. This is once again the fabrication of falsehoods by mischief makers.

The governor remains committed to upholding due process, respecting the autonomy of traditional institutions, and ensuring a fair process in the selection of a new Awujale for Ijebu. His administration continues to prioritize dialogue, harmony, and the preservation of cultural values.

We all know how highly the Governor holds the throne of Awujale which he has consistently demonstrated .
Members of the public, traditional stakeholders, and the media are urged to disregard these unfounded insinuations and rely solely on verified information from official sources.

Politics › How A Nigerian Journalist Became A Spy To The United States CIA For 10 Years by OverCalculating(op): 1:34pm On Jan 19
In 1976, Sam Ogun, a Nigerian freelance journalist, confessed about how he spied on Nigeria for the United States’ Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for nearly 10 years. He spoke with DRUM magazine.

Here is how the interview was summarised:

➡️ His work began in the early 1960s when he acted as an “information officer” for the American Motion Picture Export Company.

➡️ His handler, an American film distributor known as Jack, paid him to write reviews of foreign films published in local newspapers and forwarded to New York. That was how he was first placed on a payroll.

➡️ In 1965, Sam met a new handler, Andrew, a staff member in the political section of the US Embassy in Lagos. They held meetings at secret offices in Victoria Island and Lagos Island.

➡️ Andrew assigned him tasks: go to the University of Lagos to find out what the students' union is up to, photograph foreign diplomats and their Nigerian contacts, attend public lectures and record speeches.

➡️ Sam said he did not realise he was being used as a spy until 1968, when he was asked to sign an oath pledging not to reveal secrets of the United States government. He was trained to use a camera and a pocket-sized tape recorder designed for espionage.

➡️ His targets included foreign diplomats, trade unionists, journalists, civil servants, and students.

➡️ Colleagues grew suspicious and accused him of working for the CIA, MI5, and the KGB, accusations he consistently denied at the time.

➡️ Sam later retired as a spy and confessed because "I found out by myself the evil the CIA had been doing to Africa."

Olusegun Obasanjo, former president of Nigeria also made reference to this in his book that he had to restructure our Labour system and Union when he realized that the United States of America and The British government had much influence on the system. Now, the big question here now is WHICH OTHER SECTORS do these Western World have much influence in Nigeria? We have known about labour, what about our politics? Agricultural sector? Petroleum sector? Mineral resources? Armed Forces? Education sector? Civil Service? Are we actually free from the Colonial Beasts? Is the "Common Wealth" actually common? SECRETS TO RISING TO THE TOP || PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE

Let me tell you the truth: what will get you to the top, like I heard one of your preachers say, is not just how many books you read. Reading is good—I have a PhD myself, so I know the value of study—but he was talking about that illiterate roadside mechanic who knows more about automobiles than the one who says he has a degree in mechanical engineering. Occasionally, it’s not how much grammar you can blow. Nothing stops the anointing. Through anointing, we make a way where there is no way.

I’ve told you before: somebody was about to be sworn in as president, and to come to such a program you had to have a special card to be allowed near at all. They had cards in all manners—A, B, C, etc. One of the bishops came to me in the hotel where I was staying, excited: “Daddy, daddy, look at my card!” It takes anointing for a bishop to call a pastor “daddy.” I hope you take note of that. It is not the title, it is the anointing.

He showed me his card, and on it was written letter A. That meant he could go far. I rejoiced with him. While we were still there, a second man of God came in, excited because his card was written “AA.” That meant he could go further. The first fellow’s face fell. Not long after, another one came in with a card “AAA.” You know what that means: when it is time for refreshment and people are moving into where they will be entertained, there is a place letter A cannot enter, a place letter AA cannot go, but AAA can.

After a lot of fun, one of them suddenly asked, “Daddy, where is your card? We want to know what is written on it.” I told them, “Me? I’m at the level where I don’t need a card. All I have to do is show up, and the man at the gate will salute.” I told him, “If I choose to go, I will be sitting on the same table with the president.” Anointing is the key.

And you don’t want ordinary portion. There is a double portion. May I submit to you, there is a portion beyond double portion. How thirsty are you? I don’t want to take too much of your time, but I’m asking you to enlarge your hunger, enlarge your thirsting, enlarge your fasting. I mentioned it during Holy Communion when I told God I don’t want to be ordinary. I want to be the best.

It was either God left me teaching mathematics, where I wanted to be the youngest vice chancellor in the world—that was all I wanted—or He said, “No, come and minister.” Then I said, “I want to be number one.” How many of you want to be the best, the very best? You shout hallelujah! And when you talk about hunger and thirst, you know we are talking about fasting. You can’t get to this goal without fasting and prayer. Even the Lord Jesus Christ said there are some demons that cannot be cast out except with prayer and fasting.

Somebody said to me, “The reason you won’t get too many young ones coming to the Redeemed Christian Church of God is that you fast too much.” I said, “Why don’t you come and see us? Come and see my youth, come and see my young adults.” Anytime I say we are not going to fast for a long time, they say, “Oh, why now?” Because they know where they are going. And in the name that is above every other name, you will reach the top.

I just want to share this one with you before concluding. I’ve just returned from Israel, where there was a program called the Feast of Tabernacles. People came from all over the world—at least 90 nations represented. And your father was the one they said should give the primary address. They had a special reception for me, never done before for anybody. When the man was introducing me, he said, “Ladies and gentlemen, we are doing this one especially because we have among us the Paramount Pastor.”

As the Lord lives who has called me, because I have prayed that my children will be greater than I, you will beat that. One precious love it. God bless you.

Business › Do You Want To Know Why Mike Adenuga Is Often Called "The Bull"? by OverCalculating(op): 8:37pm On Jan 15
Mike Adenuga is often called "The Bull" because he doesn't just enter a market; he breaks the door down. When he launched Globacom (Glo), he was late.

MTN and Econet (now Airtel) had already captured the Nigerian market. They had millions of customers. They had the infrastructure. They had the lead. Most business experts would have said:
"The market is saturated. There is no space for you." But Adenuga used a strategy called The Value Disruption.

Here is what happened:
At that time, MTN and Econet were charging subscribers Per Minute. If you made a call for 10 seconds, they charged you for the full 60 seconds (N50). Nigerians hated this. They complained bitterly. But the giants (MTN & Econet) told us: "It is technically impossible to do Per Second Billing right now. Maybe in 3 years." Adenuga didn't try to compete by having better signal or nicer offices. He attacked the one thing the giants refused to fix. When Glo launched, they didn't just launch with a new logo. They launched with Per Second Billing.

Overnight, the "Impossible" became possible.
The "Giant's" excuse crumbled. Millions of Nigerians abandoned their old SIM cards and moved to Glo. Not because they loved Mike Adenuga, but because he solved their Pain Point. Because of this one move, the older giants were forced to crash their prices and adopt per-second billing just to survive.

Adenuga didn't beg for market share; he took it by changing the rules of the game.

Why am I telling you this?
If you are entering a business where there are already big players (a saturated market):
Do not try to copy them.
If you copy them, you will lose, because they have more money than you.
Instead, look for what they are doing wrong.
What are customers complaining about?
What are the "Giants" too arrogant to fix?
If you can solve the one thing the Giants are ignoring, it doesn't matter if you are late. You will win.

Don't just be a competitor. Be a Disruptor.
I hope you learned something.

CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE ON HER SON'S DEATH

"My son would be alive today if not for an incident at Euracare Hospital on January 6th.

We were in Lagos for Christmas. Nkanu had what we first thought was just a cold, but soon turned into a very serious infection and he was admitted to Atlantis hospital.

He was to travel to the US the next day, January 7th, accompanied by Travelling Doctors. A team at Johns Hopkins was waiting to receive him in Baltimore. The Hopkins team had asked for a lumbar puncture test and an MRI. The Nigerian team had also decided to put in a 'central line' (used to administer iv medications) in preparation for Nkanu's flight. Atlantis hospital referred us to Euracare Hospital, which was said to be the best place to have the procedures done.

The morning of the 6th, we left Atlantis hospital for Euracare, Nkanu carried in his father's arms. We were told he would need to be sedated to prevent him from moving during the MRI and the 'central line' procedure.

I was waiting just outside the theater. I saw people, including Dr M, rushing into the theater and immediately knew something had happened.

A short time later, Dr M came out and told me Nkanu had been given too much propofol by the anesthesiologist, had become unresponsive and was quickly resuscitated. But suddenly Nkanu was on a ventilator, he was intubated and placed in the ICU. The next thing I heard was that he had seizures. Cardiac arrest. All these had never happened before. Some hours later, Nkanu was gone

It turns out that Nkanu was NEVER monitored after being given too much propofol. The anesthesiologist had just casually carried Nkanu on his shoulder to the theater, so nobody knows when exactly Nkanu became unresponsive.

How can you sedate a sick child and neglect to monitor him? Later, after the 'central line' procedure, the anesthesiologist casually switched off Nkanu's oxygen and again decided to carry him on his shoulder to the ICU!

The anesthesiologist was CRIMINALLY negligent. He was fatally casual and careless with the precious life of a child. No proper protocol was followed.

We brought in a child who was unwell but stable and scheduled to travel the next day. We came to conduct basic procedures. And suddenly, our beautiful little boy was gone forever. It is like living your worst nightmare. I will never survive the loss of my child.

We have now heard about two previous cases of this same anesthesiologist overdosing children. Why did Euracare allow him to keep working? This must never happen to another child."

Politics in Nigeria is nothing different from our traditional monarchy. Fathers transitioning power to their children as if it is royalty...leadership flows in their bloodline. Obasa of Lagos (Agege) brought in his son as Chairman while he upholds the position of the speaker of the house, Lagos State House of Assembly. Wike is also rooting for his son in Rivers State House of Assemble. Tinubu the Jagaban of Borgu himself is tagging his son and wife along...the list goes on.

Now, here is my question...are there no competent people elsewhere to occupy this position out the over 250 million population of Nigeria? If those who were there did what you are all doing now, would you be privileged to be in the position you occupy today?

The likes of Nnamdi Azikwe, Awolowo, Amodu Bello, Herbert Marculy who stated this political nationalist movement in Nigeria didn't plan it like this at all. If they had, there wouldn't have been any Tinubu, Obasa or Wike of today.

Mind you, let me deviate a bit, this trend is not only in politics, it is eroding into our religious organizations as well...which is very funny to me. Bishop Oyedepo of Winners Chapel changing the name of the church to Bishop Oyedepo Ministries and ordaining/preparing his children to take after him. The same thing applies to other notable General Overseers and church founders. If Pastor Akindayomi of blessed memory had thought about this, he wouldn't have handed over the RCCG to Pastor Enoch Adeboye. He would have just handed over to any of his children or wife. Pastor T.B. Joshua's wife is the one in charge of the church now too.

Well, make I just relax and follow the trend. If e reach my turn, me sef no go allow my enemies reap the fruits of my labour. Wetin I kukuma know sef? huh grin

Tinubu actually served as governor of Lagos for eight years with three different deputy governors at different times.

1. Kofo Akerele-Bucknor (1999–2002) was his first deputy. They later had political disagreements that led to the probe of the deputy governor. Closing up to her impeachment, she resigned in December 2002.

2. Femi Pedro (2002–2007): He was appointed after Akerele-Bucknor’s resignation.
He actually served the longest almost completing the second term with Tinubu. He later became a governorship aspirant, had issues with the governor, and got impeached by the State House of Assembly. Many years later, the House pardoned him and reinstated his benefits.

3. Abiodun Ogunleye: He served the shortest and in the buildup to Tinubu's handing over in 2007. He took the oath of office shortly before the end of Tinubu’s tenure.

HISTORY - S.T SOAP: THE RISE AND FALL OF A PROMISING INDIGENOUS YORÙBÁ BRAND

Late Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu’s quality item, S.T Soap, immediately turned into an easily recognized name during the 80s into the 90s, due to its potency, packaging, and rhythmic advert jingle which practically turned into a public hymn, particularly in the South West, which obviously was responsible for the fame and excessive demand in the market by all.

In 1979 Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu popularly known as S.T began what was referred to as S.T Soaps Limited with the amount of 5,000 naira (N5000). In an interview with L’abe Orun Program, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu said he got N3000 from his father after which he added his own N2000. Before starting S.T Soaps Limited, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu was buying Garri from Auchi and reselling it in Lagos.

The business kept expanding, S.T Soaps extended from the passageways of his home to raising a cutting-edge processing plant in Ijebu-Mushin, Ogun State. Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu Worked and thrived from his monstrous industrial facility, with huge loads of laborers in his workforce.

Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu’s irregular downfall started in October 2004 when the assembly line laborers at his S.T Soaps Limited started to racket for a “staff association” with the excuse that they were being used as a slave in the manufacturing company. Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu was purportedly disappointed with the possibility of a staff association inside the premises of his business, he contended that the thought isn’t proper in a sole ownership enterprise, the S.T Soaps Limited staffs who affirmed that they are being abused by the organization’s administration, started a protest by abandoning their tasks.

During the dissent, one of the staff of S.T Soaps Limited purportedly damaged a mixing machine worth five million naira. This incensed Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu who welcomed the police to capture the miscreant however on getting to the scene the police terminated irregularly noticeable all around and captured everyone they discovered including non-staffs and outsiders.

One of the locals (a deaf kid) was said to have been hit by a stray bullet. The police contribution made a total pandemonium, the residents were angered, they promised to annihilate the manufacturing plant, S.T Soaps Limited if the arrested indigenes were not delivered from police custody, the old women threatened to protest naked with a left foot sandal and a left earring, realizing the consequences of his actions, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu called for the released of the protesters and everyone arrested at the scene.

Eventually, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu had to give in to the demands of his workers by giving room for a labour union despite the fact that S.T Soaps Limited was a sole ownership enterprise just to allow peace reign. However, in an interview, he claimed that allowing the workers’ association worsened the issue and the employees started feeling high and mighty.

He said they started demanding an increment in salary incessantly and they were wasting the company products unnecessarily. He gave an instant when they would mix soda used in making soap after which they would abandon the mixed soda and request for a meeting with their employer, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu himself. If he couldn’t show up due to one reason or the other, they would refuse to work and waste the mixed soda.

Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu maintained that those usually spearheading such acts were the indigenes of Ijebu-Mushin, he said they had a sense of entitlement since Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu himself wasn’t an indigene of Ijebu-Mushin. To curb the wastage of resources and motivate a smooth flow of activities in the organization, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu sacked about fifty of the indigenous employees encouraging the unethical acts but it only worsened the issue as the whole community was displeased with this particular action.

It took the mediation of the police D.P.O and a well reputable chief of Ijebu-Mushin to suppress the developing unsettling influence, the two players; Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu and the S.T Soaps Limited staffs were called to a roundtable and a mutual ground was reached in the month of November 2004.

However, on Friday, May 13th, 2005, five policemen from the Elewe-Eran police station, Abeokuta, stormed the processing plant, S.T was arrested, one lepper from a nearby town called Baba Oníkèké had implicated him in a kidnapping and ritual case, Baba Baba Oníkèké who was a lepper asserted that Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu routinely purchases human parts from him. Baba Oníkèké insisted that he sold two human eyes to Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu for Two thousand naira. When Baba Oníkèké was told to identify Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu, he couldn’t point out who Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu was between him and his managers.

On hearing this, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu’s first house, second house, and office were scoured by the police, however, nothing was found, the legal dispute ranges for a while yet the case was at last excused by His revered, O.S Moronfolu of the Magisterial district, Chief Magistrate court, Ijebu-Ode on June 7th, 2005

Following these occurrences, unfortunately for him, the ritual allegation case against Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu ruined him. As someone who used to be very popular and prominent on the Ijebu social scene and even beyond, he suddenly went low, while his once thriving and booming soap business, S.T Soap also went under and comatose; which ultimately forced him to leave the scene, and retired into more private and secluded life for years, with nothing virtually heard about him or his whereabouts.

Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu couldn’t recapture his feet, His once-mighty industry, S.T Soaps Limited became history. He went into depression, his life never stays as before. In an interview, he said his greatest mistake in life was employing a larger percentage of Ijebu-Mushin indigenes anytime he had to recruit workers. He maintained that they had a great sense of entitlement and strongly believed that they are the reason he was successful.

Affirming the toll with the ritual allegations had on him and his wave-making and profitable soap business. A case, he believed it was maliciously orchestrated by his detractors, at that time but the deed is done. No one heard anything about the great Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu of S.T Soaps Limited again until October 5, 2020, when the news that he kicked the bucket filtered out. The great indigenous industrialist died at the age of 64 following quite a while of engaging an undisclosed ailment.

Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu was survived by many wives, children, grandchildren, with a vast estate. According to family sources, he was laid to rest the same day he died according to Islamic rites.

Lol. I am not Yoruba, but let me try to wade in. How can the son be superior to the father? Except you tell me that the Alaafin was never a son of the Ooni. I get that the Alaafin was more of a military king than the Ooni, and thus had more territory, but that doesn't mean he is traditionally superior. Oh on the issue if the salary, the CBN governor is the public official with the highest salary (official salary), even higher than that of the president. Does it make the CBN governor superior to the president who appoints him? There are several reasons that made them consider the salaries. The Olubadan is a second class king but had higher salary than the Ooni and Oba, does it make him superior to them? Let's be logical
You are right. Your points are logical.
