Agriculture › Farmer Arrests Cow On His Farm In Abuja, Drags It To The Police Station (pic) by Ovokoo(op): 9:49am On Mar 17, 2017
A middle aged farmer, simply identified as Elder Samson, arrested a cow and tied it down for allegedly destroying crops on his farm at Sabon- Gari, Abaji.

A resident of the area, Yahaya Aliyu, said the incident happened on Wednesday morning when the farmer met cows eating some of the yams he had already planted on ridges. .

He said the farmer arrived his farm at about 9:00a.m and saw a herder removing the already planted yams from the ridges and giving them to his cows. .

“When the herder saw the farmer coming, he escaped and the farmer arrested one of the cows and tied it up, got a pick up van which took the cow to the council secretariat,” he said.

When contacted, the Abaji Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP David Kolo, confirmed the incident, saying the arrested cow has been brought to the police and was still waiting for the owner to come forward to claim it. .

The DPO added that a similar incident happened recently when a farmer arrested two cows and brought them to the police station after the cows destroyed his crops. “And we have been able to get a court judgment on those two cows which are still at the police station. .

The court had ordered that since nobody came to claim ownership of the cows, they should be sold out and the money be used in compensating the affected farmer,” the DPO added.

Family › I Have No Problem Being Naked In Front Of My Son - Uwanma by Ovokoo(op): 6:46am On Mar 14, 2017
Here's a post i curled from Bellanaija as written by Florida Uwanma about sex education:

I am going to start with a disclaimer. I understand my home is considered pretty unconventional by most people, so this is not a call for anyone to do it like we do it. Rather, it is a way to say, perhaps you should consider trying something a little different …

I am very big on sexual education for children. Having myself grown up with little or none, having to navigate the dicey terrain of sex by myself, I wanted to give my child, something better than what I got. From the time my 3-year-old son asked me why “mine is different from yours” and I bought How Did I Begin, to teach him about baby making, I knew there was little I wasn’t ready to talk to him about.

To begin, how did he discover him and I had different organs? Well, back in the day, I would once in a while bath him naked. Me, being naked, I mean. I was a working mother who was also in a Masters program; as such time was not a luxury I had in abundance. Thus, I often have to give my son his bath first, send him off to dry himself up and begin with his breakfast, while I myself rushed through my own bath.

Living overseas at the time, financial considerations meant we shared a bedroom. So my son would still be in the room by the time I returned to dress up. I hadn’t thought much about what he was seeing or not understanding… until he asked about the difference in our privates.

Giving sex education is often awkward for both children and parents, because it usually requires a B-I-G M-O-M-E-N-T of two people barely prepared for it. Maybe Mom had noticed 16-year-old Wole paying particularly close attention to Ijeoma, the neighbours’ 15-year-old daughter. Mom decides she’s not ready to be a grandmother, calls Wole into her bedroom and bumblingly tells him not to shame her. Stern warnings are issued: “If you get her pregnant, you’ll marry her oh! Do you hear me very well now?!” Wole may or may not ever sleep with Ijeoma. Maybe it is Hauwa he will do the do with, and maybe he won’t use condom. Perhaps he will, but will not know the proper way to use it. By the time Hauwa misses her period, a frightened Wole tells her to find out from her friends what to do about this problem of hers.

So I did not want a B-I-G M-O-M-E-N-T with my child. The way he’s seen his father and I kiss so much it was now commonplace that he doesn’t pay us any mind. That’s how I wanted our conversations about sex. Like the time he was four and he walked in on me in the toilet cleaning up, and asked why I was peeing blood. Because of his question, we had a little talk about menstruation and a quick revision of what he read in How Did I Begin. Apparently, he forgot all about that, because come the following year, he was back asking me about peeing blood again. Other questions he has asked over the years include: why do his father and I have hair on our pubic area and he doesn’t? Why is his father’s penis bigger than his? What is his scrotum called? (he’d asked this one about a million times, very fascinated he was with the thing) I believe the ease with which these questions have been asked, and equally answered is due the efforts we made to remove that clumsiness that often surrounds those subjects.

Of course, we teach him about privacy. He’s been made to understand that seeing us naked is not a privilege that extends to his friends. Once they are around, he is not to enter our bedroom without knocking (in case anyone is trailing behind him). Our bedroom door must be kept closed (in case anyone is peeping in). He also knows it is only ok for him to be naked within the house. Also, while he can ask us any question about our body (and he can count on us to answer candidly), it’s highly inappropriate to ask outsiders. Every other week, he is reminded that nobody is to touch his pubic area and he is not to touch anybody’s. This is body integrity.
The other day, when we had a family sleep over, he refused to UnCloth completely in the presence of our hosts. He took off his shirt and shorts, but when it came to his pants, he went into the bathroom and closed to the door. We hadn’t told him to do that; he decided that all by himself, and made us so proud.

Body confidence is a big, though secondary, reason I had no qualms my son seeing me naked. Though it may be a lesser talked about aspect of sexual health, it is very important. As children, it may not seem to matter so much. But children who develop body issues from childhood grow up to become adults who struggle with their bodies. So it mattered to me that my child should be confident in his unclothedness.

Hopefully, when he grows up, other people’s unclothedness will not weird him out…or make him lose his mind, and think it gives him the right to touch it. However, like I said at the start of this article, I haven’t written this piece to try to convert anyone to our way of life. The purpose is to provide a different perspective, in case you hadn’t considered it before.

Celebrities › My Husband Knows That I Was A Lesbian - Ghanian Actress (pic) by Ovokoo(op): 6:30am On Mar 14, 2017
For fear of being blackmailed, Ghanaian actress and show host, Cecilia Konamah has come out to confess that she was once a lesbian adding that her husband is aware. Speaking in an interview with Hello FMs, the actress who, according to her, stopped the lesbianism practice three years ago, said:

'My husband is aware of that. Yes, he knows that I was a lesbian and he is very comfortable with me in our marriage. He also said even if I had once stood on the streets as a hawker, he likes me as I am,' she said.
She also stated that any attempt from her friends to bring up her past won't work as her husband is already aware.
'I was introduced into the act by some friends. If somebody thinks she wants to bring it out just to break my marriage, then let me tell the person that my husband is aware,' she added.

Celebrities › I Support Gays And Lesbians - Charly Boy by Ovokoo(op): 12:27pm On Mar 12, 2017
Charly boy has come out to speak categorically on his support for gays and lesbians stating that what they choose to do in private is nobody's business. This is coming on the heel of the stigmatization that gays and lesbians are facing in Nigeria due to the law that imprisons anyone found to be of the same sex conviction.

Here are his words:

"My life has been one Big fight, I have battled a lot of principalities, I never backed down.I battled for the rights of the Okada's to make a living. I battled for the rights, respect and the big money for the Nigerian Musician, I spent 3weeks in the cell. Today they have a better life.
I battled for the non payment of aged elderly military pensioners,
who were dying in their hundreds, I was beaten black and blue by
the military, locked up for thirty days, just to mention a few.
Now I have chosen to fight for the rights of gays and lesbians.

My people,
Building bridges takes us further than building walls.
With no shame but a heart filled with pride,
I do declare that I'm a proud supporter of many Rights.
HAUSARIGHTS; #IGBORIGHTS; #YORUBARIGHTS; #GAYRIGHTS;
POLYGAMYRIGHTS #WOMENs RIGHTS, and Charlyboys fucking right to
say how I feel.

Do you know that It takes no compromise to give people their rights,
it takes no money to truly respect an individual.
It takes no political deal to give people freedom.
It takes no probe panel to remove repression, oppression, frustration

Hailings, love, fondness to all my Misunderstood; Stereotyped and Societally Blackmailed friends including gays..and lesbians. muha muha muha!!!
Love you all. Like kilode.

There are so many qualities that make up a decent human being...
I have been privileged to meet people with very beautiful souls
Sensitive, caring and love filled human beings.
Straight or Gay, what people do with their private parts in their privacy,
is probably so low on my list that it is irrelevant.

All you holier than thou nigerian Christian/Moslems,
I suppose you know say, your morality is not law
What does religion/spirituality mean if we would use it as a cover
for our hate games.
I want you to Understand that, if my friends decide to have sex whether safe,
safer, or unsafe, it is their decision and you have no rights in
their lovemaking.
In fact, if I were to secretly film/broadcast many straight people making love?
the world at large will faint with surprise and horror.

Nigerians go burn thief wey steal N1,000. Hail armed political robbers wey destroy their future; Nigerians go carry Gay matter for Head and at the same time doing exactly the opposite of what the Bible and Quran Teaches, see fake people.
Una mumu never Do?

Who am I to tell you if being gay is right or wrong? Who am I to say if its a choice, decision or some sickness? When I am just human, who sins everyday and comes short of the Glory of God times without number.

So, Before you throw that one stone, before you make that one hateful remark, before you heat up the blogoshphere with your useless and hateful comment. Just know that there are many youths out there who are confused, Depressed and contemplating suicide, simply because of their sexuality. Someone is suffocating, choking & breathless. someone somewhere is hating himself/herself, and everyone else around him/her for being so different. It might be me, you, or someone close to you, for all we know, love is the greatest of all. Before anything else, let love lead!!!

This is dedicated to all those who are deferent, who are misunderstood.

Crime › Ghanaian Man Stabs Nigerian Prostitute To Death In Ghana (Photo) by Ovokoo(op): 12:06pm On Mar 10, 2017
A 34-year-old man has been arrested by the police in Ghana for allegedly killing a Nigerian commercial sex worker, who he claimed stole his money after he had had sex with her.

Isaac Sackey is said to have handed himself over to the police after stabbing the said prostitute two times in the stomach and thigh on Wednesday, March 8th.

He is said to have approached the woman, identified only as Tina, a Nigerian, for sex at a drinking spot at Baatsona, near the Spintex Road, in Accra, at about 8 p.m after having some drinks with his male friends.

After drinking some bottles of liquor, the two are said to have agreed on a fee for the service and they went off to Sackey’s house where they spent the night.

Confirming the incident, the Accra Regional Police Command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mrs Effia Tenge told the Daily Graphic that according to Sackey, after several bouts of sexual intercourse with the woman, he went to the washroom to freshen up at about 2 a.m.

When he returned, he saw the woman going through his belongings in the bedroom and realised that GH¢120 cash had been stolen. Mrs Tenge said Sackey told the police that he immediately accused the woman of stealing the money but she denied it.

"In the heat of an ensuing argument, the woman is said to have pulled a knife from her bag and attempted to stab Sackey,” she said.

However, according to Mrs Tenge, Sackey told the police that a scuffle ensued and in the course of the struggle he overpowered the woman and the knife mistakenly injured her in the stomach.

She said Sackey locked his room and then went to the Psychiatric Hospital to report the issue where he was directed by the hospital authorities to report himself to the police.

After receiving the news, Mrs Tenge said police officers went to the Manet Gardens Apartment of Sackey where the body of the victim was found lying in a pool of blood.

A careful assessment of the body by the police, she said, revealed that the victim had a knife wound in the stomach and on the thigh, indicating that she had been stabbed twice.

The body has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue. The deceased is yet to be identified by the family since the suspect claimed it was the first time they had met at the drinking spot.
Some neighbours of the suspect claimed he had a mental disorder, but the police are yet to verify that information.

Travel › 8 English Most Speaking Cities In Nigeria by Ovokoo(op): 7:21pm On Mar 09, 2017
A few days ago we listed the 10 cities where pidgin English is most spoken in Nigeria, today we're going to look at the cities where English is most predominant.

Nigeria is a country of languages and dialects which belongs to over 250 ethnic groups and tribes and the need for these people to communicate to one another gave rise to the adoption of the English language which was passed down by the colonial masters to the delight of Nigerians. Right now, there are more speakers of the English language in Nigerian than in the United Kingdom where it originated from. Though the level of Englishness varies from place to place. Here is a list of 10 English most speaking cities in Nigeria.

1. Abuja: Abuja is Nigeria’s capital city and home for all Nigerians. So, it exemplifies the conglomeration of ethnic groups who often converse with each other in Nigeria’s official language, English to pass information. Speaking anything other than English in the crème de la crème of Abuja society is seen as razz, so before you pack your bags and head for the nation’s capital, you may need a little brushing of your English.

2. Lagos: Nigeria’s commercial and former capital, lagos is arguably the most cosmopolitan city in Nigeria and as such English is used more than frequently by Lagosians to not only communicate but to show class. So, if you want to be respect in the lagos society, your English has to be up to par.

3. Port-hacourt: Nigeria’s oil capital is home to expatriates in the petroleum industry as well as an avalanche of Nigerians from all over who are hoping to get their fair share of the oil money. To do this, some level of education is required to impress those that be, and education is interpreted in this clime as knowing how to speak English. Take a trip to PH and you’ll notice that the ratio of the rich and the poor is similar to that of those that speak good English and those that don’t.

4. Calabar: The former capital of the southern protectorate has retained some level of the watered down britishness that existed at the time the British left the country. That is why some of the best speakers of English come from that axis.

5. Owerri: Dubbed, the las vegas of Nigeria, Owerri is a beautiful smallcity in the heart of eastern Nigeria and it’s a place where people come for education and merriment and to be recognized, your command of English has to be good especially for the ladies.

6. Enugu: The capital of the old eastern Nigeria is a majorly Igbo speaking town that was founded and developed at the start of the 19th century and it has become a base for the south eastern academia. So, you can’t be lost in coal city if English is your language of choice. Almost everybody you will come across can muster some level of English.

7. Asaba: The capital of oil rich Delta state has attracted people from different parts of Delta state, especially those in the civil service. So, these people have some level of education and can converse in the English language to a reasonable level.

8. Makurdi: One city that is often overlooked in lists such as this. Makurdi, the capital of the food basket of Benue state is home to the TIV people but as the capital it also has a sizeable population of people from different parts of Benue state particular the Idoma people. This convergence means that some level of communication has to be across board and English is readily used by some people in the city.

In terms of percentage there are more pidgi speakers in Benin than lafos but Lagos has more pidgin English speaking population than Benin. Even the Non-Yoruba people living in lagos are more than the population of the whole Edo state talk more of Benin. In terms of language spoken in Lagos, i'll rate it in this order, English, pidgin, Yoruba.

Nowhere in Owerri is pidgin English spoken. In fact an average Igbo man in the east can't speak pidgin.
I needed to add one city from the east and one from the west, hence the reason for Owerri and Ibadan.
