THANK YOU.

The West Allows you to SEE the opportunity that was right in front of you in Nigeria.

Allohrandy: Success don't really depend on whether you reside in the Nigeria, States or in any Western countries but hard work and luck. We have equal chance of making it anywhere. There are some prominent Nigerians that once lived in the states or Europe but decided make it in Nigeria. Mike Adenuga was once a taxi driver in the states , MI use to wash toilet in the streets of Detriot. Dbanj and Don Jazzy were once in UK hustling before deciding to make it Nigeria. Even Dangote spend 2 years hustling and schooling in Egypt before relocating to Nigeria. if they had all remain in the West believing Nigeria is bad, they probably would not have become successful.

fittty: My own advice is to always have a plan and know what you want in life.
Best advice

fittty: Come to think of it, why was US visa lottery ever introduced? If it isn't a bed of roses in the US why would America come up with "US Visa Lottery" ?
US, UK and other developed countries benefit from offering "visa lotteries" Think about it, all the "big companies" you know do community service and sponsor a charity organization. Is it because all the chairmen and board members "love helping people" ?? Figure that one out.

The Immigration Act of 1990 established the Diversity Visa (DV) program, where 55,000 immigrant visas would be available in an annual lottery, starting in fiscal year 1995. The lottery aims to diversify the immigrant population in the United States, by selecting applicants mostly from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States in the previous five years.

Once the US census count deems the immigrant population "diverse" enough. This whole visa lottery thing will end.

America is no fool. They function on HEAVY PR. They know you will RATHER eat american shit than eat like a king in your country.

THINK ABOUT iT, America BORROWS money from the Prince of Saudi, so any body who is NOT a friend of the Saudi Prince, ends up in war against America.

fittty: Interesting!!! Making it in life isn't about where you are. After all we have lots of Nigerians who have never stepped out of Nigeria and live like kings.... My advise is think before you leap. Not everyone who travels out of Nigeria come back better off... But I'll say from my own experience that Nigerians are good hustlers and can survive pretty well overseas.
TravelRe: You want to COME TO AMERICA - Do You REALLY Know America? by ozoemeka(op): 11:31pm On Sep 29, 2013
Hope you do KNOW that MANY nigerians are DYING to "go back home" to the point there is a WEBSITE for it.

http://movebacktonigeria.com/

Please make informed decisions. Stop saying Nigerians are not trying to come back to nigeria.

donsax: NO matter the racist, no matter the ghetto...No matter the debt......America is still far better than Nigeria in all way....
Why don't Ya' all retrn back home ifyou think you can't cope with all these...you are there pushing it and you encourage people that wanna come to stay back home..do you know the current country situation? That's why a thread was created that people in Nigeria hate Nigerians abroad...because they think they don't want them to ever leave home...
Why not open a thread on how to survive all these hardship or how you are coping with it?
We still have many successful Nigerians in America...if all these things happening, find a way to play Americans too and survive...a poor or middle class Nigerian will survive any hardish on earth because no where can be as bad as how poor people live in Nigeria...is like someone living in an overcrowded room of like 10people in a room and goes to another place where they are 5people in the room and someone is asking can you survive this? Hell ya he can..
I guess some people aborad are really selfish, someone will open a thread..".America is racist and full of ghetto" Europe has finished recession all over, Canada is too cold, Australia is costly New zealand is too far, no job in S.A, tax is high in uk, middle east pay are peanuts, china is over populated, japan is earthquake home, South korea s unrest because of north Korea, south America are full of crimes, india is no go area...
Where the f.uc.k then do you want them to migrate to since they can't stay home and all these countries are bad..I guess you want them to migrate to newly discovered habitat MARS?
TravelRe: You want to COME TO AMERICA - Do You REALLY Know America? by ozoemeka(op): 11:26pm On Sep 29, 2013
Noone is trying to make you "envious" of them. That is a PETTY man's way of reasoning. If you have the means, hustle, and drive in you, by AL mEANS MOVE OUT QUICK..

However thinking that "greener pastures" will MEET you ONCE you leave your country is a LIE.

Stop acting like anyone is hindering you from going forward in life. The POINT of this thread is NOT to DISCOURAGE anyone from going to wherever they feel like but to MAKE sure each person moving (rich, poor, inbetween) makes the INFORMED decision.

Do you marry a girl just by looking at her instagram pictureshuh I guess you won't so why would you MOVE (relocate YOUR LIFE based on what you watch on TV?? ) Did you LISTEN to what they were saying or did you just ASSUME they were making sure you did not move anywhere?

Africans and petty thinking...

Did you for once say hey, so why is this like this and how do YOU go about it?

Good luck moving, don't call Africans who are "ESTABLISHED" when you get there Snobs because they will SNOB the LIVING HELL out of you.

GH PATRIOT: Gbam!..... I am Ghanaian and I can relate to your Post! Relatives and friends have discouraged me in seeking greener pastures in the West, but I always smile each time they offer me their hypocritical advice because I know they will be going back to the same country they are advicing others not to go. Sometimes they even have the courtesy to inform you that they will be travelling with their children.
The Black man is always happy if he can make his brother envious of him, and that is the TRUTH.
TravelRe: You want to COME TO AMERICA - Do You REALLY Know America? by ozoemeka(op):
6. Culture : Nigerians in Nigeria LOVE to emulate American/western culture. They WANT to look like, act like, dress like, feel like Americans. They talk about "summer" like nigeria has "summer" . Very funny. I think of that as a "poor man's reasoning" tattoos .. Haha and don't even get me started with wannabes like wizkid who unfortunately are the EXAMPLE nigerians see as "people who travel abroad" . The dress style is a reflection of what they see on Websites, Instagram and music videos. They even go as far as LIVING their DAILY lives like they see on TV....Amazing!

What is REALLY funny is that Americans have NO CULTURE and are always seeking to IDENTIFY with other cultures. Why do you think they spend a LOT of money buying "african" memorabilia like masks? Why do you think almost any Black person you see in the US wants to tell you he is from "the motherland" (NYorkers you know all those guys who tell you about "motherland" Africa)
Why do you think every black person wants to tell you he is from Liberia, he is "west-indian", Cherookee Indian, "mixed" etc. They lack a culture YET nigerians with a VERY rich culture want to COPY.. smh

Did you know that in America if you were socks with flip flops (especially Addidas/Nike) you are considered ghetto?? I'm sure ice prince did not know that and thought it was a 'cool trait". NO. ESPECIALLY in NY you don't do that. Copy copy gets you no where.

They want to be like you and you want to be like them. They call it "black history"

THE REAL money makers don't do ALLL THAT.

https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/jona2.jpg Now you know
https://blogs-images.forbes.com/mfonobongnsehe/files/2012/01/tony-elumelu.jpg you should know who that is

You learn quickly that there are two DISTINCT classes of Nigerians (with sub groups nonetheless) : The Classy people who (most likely are the successful ones) and the Razz (the auto spare parts boys, the ones "making" money, A lot of nigerian hip hop artists, broke etc)

One tip: The "classy ones" never hop off nigeria and land in America. They take YEARS planning.

7. Accent : Every Dick and Harry in Nigeria talks in SOME accent. Geesh. From toolz on Tv, to the boy who works in the shop next door, to the comedians, and the actors? All of them have an accent.
"you like it Yerr"
"Oh yer my bruv did it"
"Oi man, where you going?"
"Nahh yo, I'm chilling"
"It's hot innit"

Really so bad. Seriously? EVERY ONE has been to "london" or "out of the country" - Ghana, Togo, Malaysia included?

Come on. Why ? I watched an interview with Iyanya where he said he would like to build a house in "MeeAMi" WHAT? Stop it. You look stupid, and very desperate. Omotola has a Times award and she still talks like a NIGERIAN with her Nigerian accent and all. Don't force it.

How many "rich" (not boys that have promised money aka artistes and actors, I'm talking Dangote, Adenuga etc) people do you know "have an accent"? You see the trend?

Unfortunately all the "Naija boys" want to "sound black"
"We outcheeaa yo"
This is the result

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUDpMGz-EB0

Thre truth? Americans have a WIDE RANGE of accents. Just like you have the Calabar accent, Yoruba accent, Hausa accent, Igbo accent etc. Same for America. New Yorkers "TOAWK" differently than those from "Bah-ston", likewise people from "Baldimorh" talk differently from those in "Cahli" and so is it from "Tehxxaz" . So you look stupid when you are in Boston forming a Texan accent.

GOD HELP NIGERIA

Luvlagos: Whoa, excellent thread, oh my, educative, selfless, real, if you are young and you see these issues like these, then there is hope for Nigeria. You have spoken and let he or she who has a brain rethink'.
Thank you. Careful consideration is all I am saying. The garbage man on my campus was a "big time worker" in Cameroon. He had money in cameroon to afford a house. Here he is a cleaner, not the head cleaner, and he lives in a house with 10 other people. No exaggeration.

Thank you. I think lacreame should READ this

Originalsly: I think the purpose of this thread is not to discourage Nigerians from travelling to the US but to give them an insight of living in America....an insight that is lacking in media...and from most returning home to visit. Some people do become.successful but most don't. Some people think the whole US enjoy sunshine all year round...until they get there. Then there is ego....even in some comments here people are abroad and still viewing some jobs as low paying jobs....Nigerian mentality is still very much alive! Nursing...if you bevome an RN...you are in one of the better paying job. If you are a Nurse Assistant then you are in a lower paying job. Comparison...job status.... a nurse earns far more than a banker...a sanitation worker/garbage man(picks up garbage in the truck)...he makes more than a banker..more than a manager at a store chain similar to Shoprite...more than a manager at a large department store...more than a teacher with less than a Masters degree...more than most pdople that are well dressed and work in those shiny corporate skyscrapers. US will humble anyone...by force. Lastly,...don't ever compare how much someone makes in a month...convert it to naira...and then conclude the level of life you would be living. The cost to rent a bedroom in a house...is the same you will pay for a 2 bedroom house in PH for a year. Look well before you leap...that's all we are saying.BTW...did I mention that you must pass a written test and a serious physical test before you can be a ehmmm.... garbageman?

Come home to what exactly?

Norwegians make more money than Americans

Sweden is more advanced

Hong Kong is way more technologically superior

The biggest and most advanced plane in the world is flown out of Singapore.

The tallest buildings in the world are now in Dubai and Shanghai.

Meanwhile, the US has the highest incarceration rate in the world.

The World Health Organization ranked the US 37th in the world for health care, despite the fact that we spend the most per capita by a large margin.

The hospitals are nicer in Asia (with European-educated doctors and nurses) and cost a tenth as much. Something as routine as a vaccination costs multiple hundreds of dollars in the US and less than $10 in Colombia. And before you make fun of Colombian hospitals, Colombia is 28th in the world on that WHO list, nine spots higher than us.

My sister paid $500 for a regular vaccination for school.

I’m not going to go crazy with the details, but we eat chemically-laced crap because it’s cheaper and tastes better (profit, profit). Our portion sizes are absurd (more profit). And we’re by far the most prescribed nation in the world AND our drugs cost five to ten times more than they do even in Canada (ohhhhhhh, profit, you sexy bitch).

In terms of life expectancy, despite being the richest country in the world, we come in a paltry 38th. Right behind Cuba, Malta and the United Arab Emirates, and slightly ahead of Slovenia, Kuwait and Uruguay. Enjoy your Big Mac.

There is no FACT to support that America is the greatest country. It's all "GOOD PR"

America is 7th in Literacy
27th in Math
22nd in Science
49th in Life expectancy
178th in Infant Mortality
3rd in Median household income
America is number one in ONLY 3 categories
1. Number of incarcerated citizens per capita
2. Number of adults who believe angels are real
3. Defense spending (aka spending money by military to go to war with other countries) - America spends more than the 26 developed countries combined

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16K6m3Ua2nw#t=153

la_creame: why cant they see things as good and later turn out better?
why so pessimistic?
leaving a country as dead as nigeria legally should not be seen as bad
they are better opportunities there, and a better shot at growing
stop scaring people, if they wanna travel let them and if they dont make it they can come home.
TravelRe: You want to COME TO AMERICA - Do You REALLY Know America? by ozoemeka(op): 6:51pm On Sep 29, 2013
If you’re extremely talented or intelligent, the US is probably the best place in the world to live. The system is stacked heavily to allow people of talent and advantage to rise to the top quickly.

The problem with the US is that everyone thinks they are of talent and advantage. As John Steinbeck famously said, the problem with poor Americans is that “they don’t believe they’re poor, but rather temporarily embarrassed millionaires.” It’s this culture of self-delusion that allows America to continue to innovate and churn out new industry more than anyone else in the world. But this shared delusion also unfortunately keeps perpetuating large social inequalities and the quality of life for the average citizen lower than most other developed countries. It’s the price we pay to maintain our growth and economic dominance

American people on average work more hours with less vacation, spend more time commuting every day, and are saddled with over $10,000 of debt. That’s a lot of time spent working and buying crap and little time or disposable income for relationships, activities or new experiences.

Pasca07: @honey almost high percentage of nigerians are hard working is just that hard work does not pay in naija.
TravelRe: You want to COME TO AMERICA - Do You REALLY Know America? by ozoemeka(op): 6:50pm On Sep 29, 2013
I am 21. I do well. I am only saying that THOSE people you know in Potomac MD (which is NOT as packed with Nigerians as you make it sound) did not hop from Nigeria to America and boom live there!

Ask them how long it took them? Some of them had money from Nigeria, and PLANNED/eased their way into america after several years of visiting. Who is asking you to "explain" where you are from? Your skin is black therefore they think you are BLACK!
There are affluent Black people. They live in DC, VA and some other parts. Ask your so-called nigerians making it if their "dreams" of what america was happened to EVER be the SAME thing

Again, the point here is for people to make REALISTIC plans and ideas when Planning to move to the US.

Yvete: What the heck is a "white or black neighborhood"? ... so what if ones' neighbors are mostly "black"? Is racial demography indicative of success - if they are white? African-Americans may have a victim mentality and looking at the world through their rear-view, but you can't qualify Nigerians by African-American standards. We are different in everything except skin color. if you think there are no ghetto-ratchet-hood white people, ask Eminem! grin

If we're writing about affluence, academic accomplishment and/or stability, Nigerians do pretty well. Affluent neighborhoods like Potomac, MD, Woodlands, TX, are packed with Nigerians and the Nigerians I know (legal and illegal), have their lives put together .... even those with low paying jobs, don't know about you. undecided If you've got a negative mindset, you will never be successful anywhere.
TravelRe: You want to COME TO AMERICA - Do You REALLY Know America? by ozoemeka(op): 6:44pm On Sep 29, 2013
L O L
"doing well" , what exactly do they "do"?

yes I lived in Nigeria for more than 12 years, in those we have lived in a one bedroom, with people, rented, in a duplex, in a bungalow and everything between so I KNOW NIGERIA.

@Afam how Tell me why the car wash boy here won't be frustrated. Mind you all the people he has "debt" with AUTOMATICALLY withdraw from his paycheck before he even sees it. So they claim he makes about 1500 a month YET he sees NOTHING!

Don't even get me started on insurance, without Health Insurance, Good Luck!

How is the Car wash driver "eating like his fellow americans"?? Did you read that LIST

He is buying
1 Loaf of Fresh White Bread (500g) $1.97,
1 Milk (half gallon) - $2.22,
1 crate of eggs $1.54
Chicken Breasts (Boneless, Skinless), (1kg) $4.39
Oil Canola $3.61

FOR the month, aka 30 days. In Nigeria, the Car wash man can afford to eat "mama put" of at least N200 a day in a month that's N6000 i.e $40
If The SAME car wash TRIES that in America he won't even see rent money for the month. For what the car wash in Nigeria eats for N200 the Car wash man in america will have to pay $14 to EAT the SAME food. N200 is $1.25 and is NOT enough to buy you more than 1 bag of chips. A meal in Mcdonalds the CHEAPEST place to eat, is $6.25 if the car wash guy eats burger (which is not filling btw) everyday and eats ONLY that , then he will spend $190 a month on feeding.

His "american" counterparts are eating in restaurants, going to see movies, taking vacations etc . His pay check CAN NOT afford that.

The price of a BUS trip (ex. Lagos to Enugu) will cost you N15,000 in America. MEANWHILE in Nigeria ekene dili chukwu will take you there for less than N5000

Are you getting the cost of living? So although when you look at the FIGURES it looks WAY BIGGER when you change it to Naira, cost of Living is ridiculously high.

Those who live in NY? Ask them, a bottle of water is almost $8 (AT THE CHEAP PLACES) .. That means to buy a small bottle of water is N1500 ON THE STREET OF LAGOShuh

Afam4eva: They may not earn as much as banker and are not supposed to but they're better than their fellow car wash person in Nigeria. I know a car wash guy that makes 5k monthly. Now, what's that going to do for his life. Imagine putting the same car washing energy and expertise abroad.
Afam4eva: They may not earn as much as banker and are not supposed to but they're better than their fellow car wash person in Nigeria. I know a car wash guy that makes 5k monthly. Now, what's that going to do for his life. Imagine putting the same car washing energy and expertise abroad.
la_creame: ozo emeka, how long have you stayed in nigeria?
did you school here?
have you ever worked here?
Did u stay in a rental apartment when you came over?

if no, then pls do not talk like you know what its like to be a nigerian...

as for peeps that want to leave this country pls do, my relatives there are making it. its not abt your location, if you are hard working and smart you will succeed.
unlike naija where you struggle everyday and sometimes dont see any light at d end of the tunnel, over there you can grow and definitely get paid for your hardwork cs there is less corruption. if its that bad over there then let them cm home, , they are there saying dont come over.lok
TravelRe: You want to COME TO AMERICA - Do You REALLY Know America? by ozoemeka(op): 4:56pm On Sep 29, 2013
Ok. Not fair if that is PER MONTH. Let's break it down in America. You did not factor differences in cost of living

The salary YEARLY of an OWNER of a CARWASH, say in Dakota (not the car wash guy, the owner) is $24,000 which is $2000 a month. When you take away taxes which are MANDATORY, he comes home with $1487.72 a month which brings his ACTUAL yearly earnings to $17852.64
This is working 40 hours a week

Now the average price of a home in Dakota is $129,700 (that is a very average home) if he rents he will pay $880 a month for a house in a barely decent neighborhood, for $600 he will live in the GHETTO. For $1500 he can live in a "good" neighborhood and from his pay check he can't even afford this.

So let's say he chooses $880 ($1487.72-$880 = $607.72). He gets a haircut say every 2 weeks (mind you people here do all kinds of things to their hair because HAIRCUTS are EXPENSIVE, a regular haircut is $15). The average hair cut in Dakota is $13.81. I will assume this guy REFUSES to cut his hair.

So he has $607.72 he pays his light bills, water bills, sewer bills. $60 for heat/AC, $70 for electric, $25 for sewer, and $60 for water = $215. (the ACTUAL average in Dakota is $225 so you see I am generou here). Now he has $392.72. Then he feeds, let's say he MANAGES and buys FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH:
1 Loaf of Fresh White Bread (500g) $1.97,
1 Milk (half gallon) - $2.22,
1 crate of eggs $1.54
Chicken Breasts (Boneless, Skinless), (1kg) $4.39
Oil Canola $3.61
Total : $13.73
Plus Taxes on FOOD: 4% (in some states the tax is as high as 10%)
ACTUAL TOTAL: $14.28
Balance: $378.44.
He doesn't own a car and he will pay for the bus to get to work $3.60 daily pass and so for the month $111.60

He doesn't own a phone (that would be $180 for an OLD phone plus $50 a month for the basic plan)
Then he will wear clothes, buy toothpaste ,toothbrush, toilet tissues, soap NOTHING fancy at all. Will buy a bed those cost from $900, $1299 CLEARLY he can't afford this so he will FINANCE and borrow and pay on commission he has to BUY A BED)

At the end of his expenses he has a NEGATIVE balance and is in debt. Which Car wash boy in Nigeria will be in debt?

Afam4eva: They may not earn as much as banker and are not supposed to but they're better than their fellow car wash person in Nigeria. I know a car wash guy that makes 5k monthly. Now, what's that going to do for his life. Imagine putting the same car washing energy and expertise abroad.

What society values hustling?

How much do you HONESTLY think a "customer service rep" earns here? A car wash person? I'm waiting for your guess

Afam4eva: And how much will they earn for doing thse menial jobs in Nigeria? Will it be enough to feed their family. Why not take the same job abroad and make more money doing it. Nigerians don't learn hustling skills. Hustling can only take to a certain level. Why not apply that hustling in a society that values hustling.

It is WAY better coming to America, KNOWING what you want to do AND having SOME Money to do so. Money answereth all things in America. If you come here with money, you will be treated like royalty (to a degree {you are still black} and to the level of your money) . Do research on what you want to do, see if it is feasible, get money, then come to america, achieve your goal and head the fuccckkk back out because this country will EAT YOU and YOUR PROFIT Up! Why do you think American billionaires all GO OUTSIDE america to invest? They are not stupid. So you who is NOT a billionaire should NOT BE either.

honey: this is the main poverty stricken ppl should hustle in naija b4 shipping themselves to america, expecting to pluck gold from trees.

Oh let me just add that you will find others, who like me were born here and are citizens ( I went to school in Nigeria) who will LOOK AT NEW NIGERIANS from the bottom of their noses . Welcome to intra-racism. I don't but the BULK do....Oh and let me also add, those who came here before you and now "have their papers" will ALSO be condescending towards you. Good luck and may the best man WIN!

Afam4eva: I'm not saying we should run away. I'm just saying that, those that want to go and that believe that by traveling their lives will get better should be left to go. I don't think anyone who has a better life in Nigeria will want to travel abroad. But when poverty has knocked you out in straight sets, you may have no choice.

Why do they ALL prefer coming back to Nigeria in their old/dying age?

Those SAME jobs are IN nigeria. If you know someone here, you move. Same rule in Nigeria.

if you have the desire and urge to LEAVE nigeria, guess what? You are ONLY going to see GLOOM, even if opportunity knocks in front of you.

I'm not saying Nigeria is the BEST place to live. But trust me, when you can easily go visit a friend and ask them to look after your kids (YOU CAN NOT DO THAT HERE AT ALL even if you were born in the same place as your friend) then you appreciate the value of Nigeria.

Again you do not know the value of what you have till you loose it. Come to America if you will JUST BE AWARE of the REAL DEAL not the TV Version

Afam4eva: The most important thing is that these people now have jobs and are no more jobless like they probably were in Nigeria. The key thing is that life is relatively better for them unlike before. They mustn't become millionaires but more importantly, they won't die of hunger. I know and understand all these things you're saying about life abroad but i don't think the poverty beaten Nigeria who lives in Ajegunle or Okokomaiko will care. It's better than dying where he is.
TravelRe: You want to COME TO AMERICA - Do You REALLY Know America? by ozoemeka(op): 3:38pm On Sep 29, 2013
I totally understand your mindset. Nigeria is NOT a super duper great country. No one is saying it is. The point of this thread is NOT to discourage ANYONE. But to rather help people make INFORMED decisions BASED on REALITY. Same thing if an American watched some Nigerian movies and saw big cars and big houses with some girls and more than $15m in cash and SOLELY on that reason he decides he wants to MOVE TO NIGERIA because "they have big cars, big houses, money and everyone is rich so I too can hustle and be rich" . Am I making a WISE decision? Would YOU, not advise me to remain in America? Would you not tell me that that is NOT the reality of Nigeria and that only a FEW people can live that way?

Same thing here. America is NOT all like the TV. The reality of America is what people are saying here. A lot of Nigerians DON'T understand racisit, because they have NEVER faced it. Racisim is not just somebody talking trash about you or to you... Ha it goes way deeper. You GO for a job interview (HUSTLING RIGHT?) and the employee looks you dead in the eye and asks you if you've ever been to an office with chairs in your life? How do you answer that? He looks at you and says "with sympathy" that he can imagine what it must have been like living in huts and mud houses. You know that there are SOME places in Nigeria that MAY happen but even in the village how many people are in hut houses and you feel very insulted?

Have you experienced what it feels like to be STOPPED inside the store and asked to be searched SIMPLY because you are BLACK? Have you known what it feels like to NOT get a job SIMPLY for how you look? Haha you DON'T .

There are successful Nigerians here but have you asked yourself why the "successful" Nigerians end up "going to nigeria" to "set up a business"? Why didn't they simply stick with the ones here?

You can play them if you want. You will get tired first. If you came to America EXPECTING it to be easy etc. You are in for something else. If however you come to AMERICA knowing that you will be "living with 5 people in a room" then at least your expectation is a bit close to reality. However will Nigerians want to move to America if they know that "they will be living with 5 people in a room"?

The hilarious part is when I see Nigerians SUDDENLY turn into Akata people. It is ridiculous. "Ayy niggga yo ayyy" and the like.. It's like the Bullllsshhhitt they watched on tv stuck right in their head.

Again this tread is simply to help you make an INFORMED decision. There are other developed countries that are less harsh and REAL. No one is discouraging you from anything but REASON, is it worth struggling and killing yourself in Nigeria to come to America only to enter another round of bull?

donsax: NO matter the racist, no matter the ghetto...No matter the debt......America is still far better than Nigeria in all way....

You're welcome. I found that a lot of Nigerians are living in denial. Some genuinely make silly decisions they regret 10 years later. My uncle is a Doctor and so is his wife. They are both Igbo. He migrated here and married his "naija american wife" when he met her in med school, and probably for papers. They live in one of the MOST expensive neighborhoods in NC YET, they do not have a life. His wife works from 5am to 2am the next day and she's home for about 2 hours and she's out. My uncle is burned out and keeps telling me how he wants to relocate to Nigeria. he has established a clinic in abuja and one in Lagos, he hopes to generate enough income there to MOVE. Mind you he went to a PRESTIGIOUS medical school, he and his wife. He OWNS a clinic in America, as does his wife. You would think, wow they achieved the AMERICAN dream. Yet he says all the money he makes goes to his mortgage, payroll, children's fees, and of course every Nigerian back in Nigeria ASSUMES he must be LIVING LARGE and have EXTRA MONEY every where. You know what he does PART TIME TO EARN MONEYhuh He does things like GNLD, Mary Kay!! YES , A DOCTOR !!! FROM A VERY PRESTIGIOUS SCHOOL (AN IVY). I know of Attorneys too begging people back in Nigeria to give them positions so they can MOVE BACK. They are all tired of America. My mum refuses to live here. She just comes, shops and goes back to Nigeria.

Boy was she surprised when she came here and met all the people "DOING WELL IN AMERICA". She realized they all BORROWED money to Buy their homes and were still PAYING back (with HUGE INTEREST RATES) . In America when you want to buy a house they make you borrow from the bank and give you a mortgage you pay for 30 YEARS!!!!! 30 Years! That's a nice mortgage. Can you imagine owing someone and paying for 30 years! When will that debt end? Are you not paying 10x the value of the house? And if you don't pay up they come and reclaim your house and put you OUT. Yes, MANY people are HOMELESS simply because they can't pay.

She realized people with "nice cars" you get to see on Facebook and stupidly envy ARE ALL LIVING OFF BORROWED cars. I.e they finance the cars (same method as mortgage). The NICE CLOTHES they "sent you" from America? ALL ON THEIR CREDIT CARDS. THey don't have the MONEY. They are simply BORROWING to survive and paying back penny by penny.

So when a lot of Nigerians come to America to live with their "uncle/aunty" who they THOUGHT had it GOOD (afterall the Aunty always seemed to have A LOT OF STUFF when she came to Nigeria) they realize the HARSH truth. Aunty is working as a nurse and works 3 other jobs. If you DARE turn on the tap too long she yells at you for wasting water or not paying energy(light/NEPA) bills. She is cranky and you can tell life is not the best for her. She still sends $100 back home and the people back home keep reinforcing the idea that Jane is DOING WELL in America. Not knowing Jane took off $100 from her $125/week paycheck.

Don't forget to add, that you can't even GET THE CREDIT CARD unless you have work history, SSN, a citizen. So for a new nigerian that ain't happening for the next 6 years.

I see Nigerian boys here who are janitors go to Nigeria and "FLEX" when I see pics I am shocked, because in Nigeria they POSE like they are living large. A lot of nigerian boys SAVE and BORROW to go to Nigeria just so they don't look bad.

With your "african name" you will have people ask you if you live in a hut, igf you had water to drink, and will "pity" you and give you bread because they GENUINELY believe you have never seen bread before. Sounds too exaggerated right? NO THAT IS THE TRUTH and people will SAY THIS OUT TO YOU

Open your eyes. America is not Somewhere to just HOP and COME TO. You will pay dearly for it. Sit down HAVE A PLAN OF ACTION. Take the TRUTH. Not what you saw on TV (those actors you see on tv had been acting as unknown people for 25 years before they ended up on TV: they don't tell you that part) Are you ready to sacrifice the next 10 years of your life slaving and suffering away?

If not, then my friend you are WAYYYYYYYY better off in Nigeria.

dasparrow: @Post

OP, God bless you for this thread. You see, America had been my residence for almost 14 years. I remember when I was coming to America in the late 90s, friends in Europe warned me not to go but I stubbornly did not listen because I was carried away by what I saw on MTV and BET. When I arrived in the USA, my eye come clear. America is nothing like what she portrays herself to be. Infact, America brings out the worst in people oftentimes...Most Americans live from paycheck to paycheck. Debt is a huge issue. Most Americans have mortgage loans, car loans, student loans, credit card debts, infact, 'gbese' all the way. Without credit cards, most Americans cannot survive. The American society is largely a debt-driven society. They encourage you to get into debt so that you can have a credit history. Without a credit history, you can't do much in America.

The average american will harass you because of your accent, your African name, and threat you like crap once they find out that you come from a 3rd world country or from Africa.

Overall, America is just there. I truly believe that there are other more tolerant advanced societies an African immigrant can live a good life in. One just has to search. However, as for me, USA just ain't it. Yes, you have constant electricity, water, fast internet access, good universities and the likes. But, the average American will always remind you that you are not part of them no matter how long you reside in the USA and that is the gospel truth. I know some Nigerians will come on this thread and start defending America like their roots lie in that country or like that lives depended on it. However, I believe in telling it as it is. Many Nigerians love lying anyway so that they can keep boosting to their relatives in Nigeria and making themselves feel relevant. The truth however must be told so that people who wish to migrate to USA can make an informed decision. Shalom!

Same with Nigerians. They think COMING to US is guaranteed success.

Godson201333: I am living in Europe and i am starting to believe that this racism thingy can be favorable at times. You see that is why Europe is very cleaned and organized than USA.I know there too and when i say very clean i mean very clean but the racism here is higher than USA.

It is just because we black people some of us are violent, dangerous and some do not even have focus. If you see people fighting here they are blacks,If they organize a party they are gonna fight at the end, many of us are just bad..

The rate of blacks going to school here too is very low,we just wanna make quick money.
TravelRe: You want to COME TO AMERICA - Do You REALLY Know America? by ozoemeka(op): 4:27am On Sep 29, 2013
Do you live in America? If you do I don't think you will think this way. Blacks have really not moved THAT far like you assume or like they paint on TV. A black president? Obama is more African than Black. He grew up in a COMPLETELY white neighborhood and had NO interaction with "BLACKS" whatsoever till he graduated Law School FROM HARVARD.

He is a White boy with an African Dad in a BLACK/TANNED skin.

African Americans have it VERY VERY hard here. Why do you think Nigerians here are always talking about moving back to Nigeria? If the opportunities here were all so pretty and easy to acquire like some naija boys think, why are established doctors and attorneys here WISHING and BEGGING to move back to Nigeria?

Afam4eva: Things have definitely gotten better since Martin Luther King and they will keep getting better for Black people in America. The fact that you have a black president does not give credence to the gargantuan racism that you have painted. Granted that there is racism in America just like everywhere in the world including Nigeria, i think the minority population have been given the opportunity to succeed through affirmative action and other policies and some have taken that opportunity. It will take a very long time to see a massive effect of these policies cos blacks have been dealt a deadly blow in the past.

There are FEW hip hop millionaires. Don't believe the hype and all they SAY on their CDs.... The master money makers are Dr Dre, Sean Combs, Jay Z, 50 Cent, Birdman. Everybody else is making under $1m. Drake is not even worth $5m. the athletes ... maybe, but the athletes basketball players have "promised money".

Allohrandy: Those are black Areas. You hardly see whites living in those streets. cities like Oakland, Baltimore, DC, ATL, Bronx NY and detriot has a very high black population. The fact is whites are well off than blacks in America because of discrimination and racism. The black unemployment rate is twice that of whites. There are more black men in prisons than they are in colleges. Infact 1 out of 7 black men in America is either in jail or has been in prison. The America system has failed black people in US and proverty rate among blacks is higher than any other race. Infact a white man with a criminal record has a higher chance of getting a job than a black man with a college degree because White still control US economy and they are very few black millioniares in American. most of the black millioniares are either in sports or entertaiment and you hardly see black American millioniares in wall street. 50 years after Martin Luther King died there is still racism in America
