Oh...But do the "naija boys" seeking "opportunity" know this?

Will a Nigerian boy who hustled his way out of nigerian likely end up in a "white neighborhood"? and even if he does, will he welcomed with open arms? Does he know what he is facing when he LEAVES NIGERIA, where he is A FREE MAN? Does he know he will be CLASSED as a black man? Does he know that if he lives in NY police can frisk him anytime and send him to jail? No. He thinks the America on TV = America of real life NOT knowing that the Americans on TV are the uppities. The group that are apologetic are the nigerian hip hop artists/actors WHO see "american rappers" and want to look, act, dress and talk like them!

MEANWHILE blacks in America who are GOING UP, are dissociating from the pictures of blacks in fitted hats, Nigerians are GRABBING what Americans are discarding as BACKWARD culture....SMH

Allohrandy: Those are black Areas. You hardly see whites living in those streets. cities like Oakland, Baltimore, DC, ATL, Bronx NY and detriot has a very high black population. The fact is whites are well off than blacks in America because of discrimination and racism. The black unemployment rate is twice that of whites. There are more black men in prisons than they are in colleges. Infact 1 out of 7 black men in America is either in jail or has been in prison. The America system has failed black people in US and proverty rate among blacks is higher than any other race. Infact a white man with a criminal record has a higher chance of getting a job than a black man with a college degree because White still control US economy and they are very few black millioniares in American. most of the black millioniares are either in sports or entertaiment and you hardly see black American millioniares in wall street. 50 years after Martin Luther King died there is still racism in America

Thanks. It pays to have a REALISTIC expectation coming "abroad". What happens is some nigerians end up becoming "nurses", janitors, cleaners, Mcdonald workers etc. Simply because they had a very uber utopian view of America. Just like the ads on American tv about "Africa" reeks of hungry children (while we know that some people in Lekki alone can afford to buy private jets), the America on Nigerian Tv is all about skyscrapers and money making. NOT TRUE.

Afam4eva: Nice article...

Though i disagree with you that the America being shown on TV is not the real America. It's the real America just like those ghettos that you posted. There are good and bad places in any part of the world but i can assure you one thing. There are more ghettos where those you're advising are coming. Infact, i think it's dumpsite cos those ghetto picture you posted is like heaven to a lot of Ajegunle peeps.

acidosis™:
Remove the clip oga. .its not a good idea..

and

Your action is wrong and bad.. To send a lady you claim you love out at that dark hour just because of s . e . x.

My advise is - leave the girl.. Do not stay with a lady because:
1. You need s . e .x
2. You're single
3. You pity her

Stay only IF YOU LOVE HER.

Seriously? Can you NOT tell where this guy's head is? He is in this whole thing for sex, so he picked a girl with low self esteem that houls like a wounded puppy whenever he talks, hence his silly excuse of wanting an obedient slave girl to do as he commands.
Romance / Re: She Was Molested Three (3) Times by ozoemeka(m): 2:21am On Sep 29, 2013
martyns303: I will try to keep this as straight as possible. the girl in question is not Nigerian, i am... you know we Nigerian guys we like our girls to be totally submissive, dedicated and respectful ......cos it seems to affect her idea of sex. 3 months is a long time. The delimma now is do i stay or do i find a way to end the relationship?

You mean you want a housegirl/slave to jump at your commands and open her legs at your call? That's not a wife, that's called a live-in sex slave.

You are CONSIDERING dumping her because you haven't had "SEX"? Why are you here for "solutions" it is clear where your head is. This whole thread is just to make you feel better and further boost your ego. Stop wasting everyone's time.

Career / Re: 20 Signs You’re A Creative Person. by ozoemeka(m): 2:05am On Sep 29, 2013
YES YES YES and YES

rodeo0070: The world would be a dreadful place without creative people. Could you even imagine life without art? The thought alone makes me tremble. Could you be the next William Shakespeare, Steven Spielberg, or J.K. Rowling? Find out with these 20 signs you’re a creative person.

1. You have an authority problem.

Creative types don’t always get along well with management because they would rather march to the beat of their own drum.

2. You have a hard time relating with people.

Most people have a strong desire to fit in, something that you don’t understand. Conformity is gross.

3. You like to solve problems.

While most people are running and hiding from problems, you purposely seek them because you love nothing more than a fresh new challenge.

4. You are your own worst critic.

You wrote a blog many months ago and thought it was wonderful at the time you published it. But then you read it again later and wonder, “What the hell was I thinking?” You then identify approximately a thousand ways it could have been better and kick yourself for being so stupid.

Note: Coincidentally, this is why I REFUSE to read my own old blogs and articles.

5. You ask lots of questions.

A stagnant mind devoid of curiosity doesn’t have the capacity to create.

6. You carry a notebook everywhere you go.

Because how else can you remember all those brilliant ideas that strike you on the fly?

7. You find beauty in the ordinary.

Creatives live in the present and are in constant awe of the world around them.

8. You are numb to rejection.

Let’s face it: it’s a hard world out there. If becoming a writer or actor or artist was easy, a lot more people would do it. Getting that dreaded rejection letter stinks at first, but eventually you become able to just shrug it off and go on to the next one.

9. You understand the power of atmosphere.

There is a reason some authors travel to a rustic cabin or sandy beach to write their novels. Some atmospheres are more conducive to creativity than others. Maybe you like to pack up your laptop and go to a coffee shop, downtown bench, or under a tree at the park. Whatever the case may be, you know the locations that boost your creative juices.

10. You think most people have poor taste.

You might find the movies and music most people enjoy to be downright terrible. I don’t know about you, but I believe SADNESS dies every time someone listens to NICKELBACK gringringrin wink

11. You are a people-watcher.

Why do people watch TV when real life is infinitely more interesting?

12. You aren’t in it for the money.

Money pays bills but it doesn’t provide happiness. There are much easier ways to make a living. This isn’t about money, it’s about passion.

13. You experience emotional highs and lows.

Your emotional life is not a straight line. Instead, it is more like the path of a roller-coaster full of dips, drops, hills, loops, and twists. Sometimes you might experience an eruption of happiness and a crash to sadness within mere moments of each other. The most painful parts usually find themselves in your art.

14. You seek inspiration.

Inspiration doesn’t happen on its own. Whether it is the opening of an art gallery, a theatrical production, or live music at a downtown bar, you search for inspiration wherever you can find it. It’s nice to know you’re not alone in your desire to create.

15. You have an interesting sense of humor.

Off-color jokes are the best kind of jokes.

16. You evolve like a boss.

An ability to adapt to challenging scenarios is necessary for survival in the creative jungle.

17. You hate stereotypes.

You understand that human beings are way too complicated to be dumped into gender roles or stereotypes.

18. You don’t have a filter.

Don’t you think life would be much more fun if everyone just said what they were thinking with no filter? There is no such thing as TMI (Too Much Information).

19. You take time to think.

Your brain is your greatest asset.

20. You don’t bend to pressure.

Whether it’s a hater who thinks your work of art sucks, a family member who thinks “you should get a real job,” or a friend who thinks your idea “will never work,” you don’t cave to outside pressure.

One thing Nairaland has taught me; I have learned that so many Nigerians living in Nigeria want anything BUT Nigeria. Some make it a lifelong MISSION to come to America where they "believe" it is the "LAND OF THE FREE" and "ANYONE" can make it. These Nigerians save and save and hustle to DO ANYTHING to come to "America" / Yankee. They give up EVERYTHING they ever had or knew to come and "enjoy" greener pastures (or so their TVs informed them). However 5 years into staying in America they realize that Life was more manageable than they could ever imagine in America. Here are some pointers on the REAL AMERICA, to those living in America feel free to add in.

1. America is NOT FUN when you do not know anybody. If you are coming here "on your own" and THINK you can easily "settle down", think again. You need an address at the airport and almost everything you need to do here requires an address. Ekene your "guy" from primary 6 can only allow you stay in his house for so long before he will require you to pay rent. Tosin your paddy from Lagos is not going to be your guide forever which leads to the next bit

2.Nothing is free in America. Absolutely nothing. DO NOT expect Okwudili to give you a ride to work, he will ask you for gas money. You are either going to join Okwudili in "hustling" or get your own life, which you will learn is HARD especially for immigrants.

3. Life is toughER for Immigrants in America. From not having a SSN to get jobs, to people simply discriminating for your "accent". You will LEARN that America is not the least bit tolerant for immigrants. Especially if you come to places that are predominantly white. Unfortunately what I end up seeing Nigerians adopt is the "akata" way. A LOT of them end up trying to speak ebonics and they just sound stupid and ridiculous. "nigggaz is tryna hoop yo". No. Your azz never hooped before when did you become a "niggga tryna hoop"?

4. Dressing. Appearance is EVERYTHING

These are NOT, repeat, NOT "american" dressing. The earlier you learn the better. The "americans" who dress that way are SEVERELY DISCRIMINATED AND MARGINALIZED in society. Sure you may say, well the "wealthy" american hiphop stars dress that way....Guess what. Those who do are DISCRIMINATED against. Don't believe me - check...a lot end up in jail etc. The "REAL wealthy ones" a la Jay z and Sean Combs DO NOT, dress that way. A word is enough for the wise.

5. You learn quickly that America is NOT the land of the free and get crammed up with "the rest" so 5 years in you start to fight hard to PROVE you are not like "THEM". You get mad when people say you are "black"

6. The America on TV is NOT the same as the REAL America. The skyscrapers and beautiful scenes from Tv shows and movies are just in a few places. Downtown, NYC, Miami, LA, DC. Just like you have SOME VERY beautiful places in Abuja, and Lagos. The real america, sometimes looks like this

Hmm...Doesn't make sense right?

So you tell your son not to talk to strangers THEREFORE you restrict him from going outside to PREVENT him from talking to strangers...and THAT makes ABSOLUTE sense to you?

Tell me, why does the law punish murder and robbery when, (according to your flawed logic) the law could have KEPT PEOPLE INDOORS BECAUSE THEY MIGHT SEE SOMETHING THAT IS NOT THEIRS AND THEY MAY WANT AND WILL END UP KILLING TO GET IT if they go outside.

The drug dealer is INTERESTED in what he stands to gain (getting the boys to work for him). if he gets these two boys LOOSE to the idea of watching tv, he could eventually get them to watch a "fun" drug movie and in turn influence how they think and get them to work for him.

You have heard that violent movies and games may end up making kids act out some of what they saw..
RationalDude:
If his father restricts him from watching tv, there is no way he would allow him out of the house knowing fully well that his son has friends that watch tv and would gladly "initiate" him into watching tv.
Secondly, why is the drug dealer so interested in getting them to watch tv? Does watching tv lead people to drug dealing?
Or maybe his father sent the drug dealer to test him.

..................................
Your analogy makes no sense but lemme humor you.
Religion / Re: Who Sinned First, Satan Or Adam ? by ozoemeka(m): 6:31pm On Sep 27, 2013
Just like how americans tell you all the "truth"

Ex. 1 In a commercial "luring" people to join the army they say

"A lot of people think being in the US army is like hollywood, people laying in dirt and sergeants yelling at them, that is not true. Major Henry says In the army you get to be a leader and learn leadership skills..."

That statement is a LIE wrapped up in a TRUTH.

The statement is ONLY true IF you are an OFFICER in the army. If you are a soldier you do roll in dirt and sergeants do YELL profanities at you.
The statement can ALSO be argued to be true that by making you get up in the morning early and perform your duties you are being taught "LEADERSHIP skills" however..HOW MANY people END up as leaders from the army? few.

So the serpent wrapped a LIE in a TRUTH.

Truth - they won't LITERALLY die THAT MOMENT
They did not know death so they do not understand the concept of DYING.
HOWEVER, he FAILED to TELL THEM that they WOULD end up LITERALLY dying, MENTALLY and SPIRITUALLY dying therefore FORFEITING their PLACE as everlasting living creatures JUST as their creator intended for them to be.

So you see the TRUTH was MORE than the lie.

He tried the same thing with Jesus telling him to Jump if he was the son of God, afterall the scripture DOES say "He shall give His angels charge over you"

The LIES there was that, the scripture did not refer to THAT situation AND he did not add the part of scripture that says Do not tempt God AND the part that includes that God is not the author of confusion.

They didn't get Smarter, they went BACKWARDS. Ex. You have a son you keep from smoking weed because of all the nuisances. You simply instruct him not to touch weed. (You are NOT hiding anything from him, you are KEEPING him from all the possible nuisances - distractions from school work, possibly being arrested, association with the wrong crowd which may lead him into other things - stealing etc, girls which he may end up getting pregnant as a teen with a lot of hormones etc)....Your son gets told in school that he doesn't know what he is missing not taking weed. After All, weed does not affect you medically it has been proven that it is not detrimental AND in fact it is administered as a drug in hospitals.

Your son comes home NOW knowing that IN FACT, smoking weed DOES relax him.

Does this mean you were hiding this "relaxing" property from him? Is it because you DID NOT want him to relax? Now he has knowledge of what he was MISSING.... Is this him being SMARTER or him going Backwards?

SO ALL OF A SUDDEN your

macof: how did satan trick them?
1. It was a serpent not satan
2. The serpent only told eve the truth
3. God was the one hiding something from them, because he didn't want them to be like him. they got smarter after eating the fruit and am sure if they had access to it more than once, Adam and Eve would have become God; he didn't want that.

Again if we take HISTORY FURTHER in South Africa we have Xhosa people of the WILD COAST who have real JEWISH BLOOD thru Portugese,Dutch explorers/SHIPWRECKS who were assimilated into Xhosa culture. Some have blue eyes and light skinned.

Others have high SCOTTISH ANCESTRY theres even tribes like "ABELUNGU/White people" theyr proudly BLACK. Though they have EUROPEAN BLOOD.

Your english and eloquence for this may suggest you too are looking for a bride? cheesy cheesy Far down the road for my 21 year old self.

However I say meet her outside or on a school campus. NEVER at a club and not in a church. Your "choir mistress" could be the girl popping that @ss on Saturday nights in the club.

djeezy: Arguably, it has been said that village girls make good wives than urban girls. Whether true or not, that is not subject to debate now because it is not the bone of contention here. Back to topic, i never understood why some people suggest church when asked where is the right place to meet a decent woman. Does meeting a guy or girl in church determine their character? A friend of mine who is searching for a wife has been moving from one church to another because he believes good women emanate therefrom. What's your personal experience vis-a-vis this notion?

I agree to a certain extent. Women want SECURITY not LOOKS. Guess what looks FADE in 50 years. (some) Girls think LONG TERM

marrying a boy because he's handsome is the dumbest move ever. Men on the other hand DEFINITELY marry for looks. Women are MORE interested in HOW THE GUY MAKES HER FEEL vs what he LOOKS like

Ask any woman you know that I said this "If the frog croaks right, the princess will listen"

ALL girls (including your mother) live by that principle, whether they are aware of it, consciously, subconsciously or not.

Broke ugly boy with ALL the girls doing EVERYTHING for HIM. "fine boy" who gets girls to TALK to him, and nothing else when he wants more. Think of how many "fine" men you know...how many of them marry ATTRACTIVE women......they marry insecure girls who jump at their commands because the girl "FEELS" lucky to have that type of man.

If you make a woman feel "some type of way" she will FOLLOW you to hell.

#TeamGodfathersinthegame

TribalEAST: lack of good looks and confidence is what makes guys like them think so. Money can only buy sex out of which you wont be fulfilled after but getting love due to ur looks, either good or bad keeps you happy. Those naija gals craving for rides are only taking those guys for maga, though some marry them but not for love. Handsome guys will continue running the planet; evidence- hollywood, nollywood, bollywood, magazines etc. Gals are motivated by wat they see. So when they see someone that looks like wat they saw in a magazine or a movie, they admire, flirt subtly and fall for the guy, all these they do without considering his financial status if only he has confidence to match up.

so guys, get confidence atleast cos no be everything money dey solve.

Note : most gals that crave for cash and cars are runz gals. Real gals are achievers and independent as successful men.

Team handsome...

Romance / Re: Are Nigerian Girls Intimidated By Handsome Boys? by ozoemeka(m): 12:30am On Sep 27, 2013
EXACTLY. I am a pretty motherf*cker and tbh the only "intimidated" girls are insecure girls. They may dress and look very confident but you will be surprised how many "models" are insecure.

tender92: Lolz
Funny enough our Naija chicks are only intimidated by how much you got, your Ride and your Swagg
Religion / Re: Who Sinned First, Satan Or Adam ? by ozoemeka(m): 12:25am On Sep 27, 2013
Scenario:

You have a first born son, you keep him from watching tv and don't buy him a phone. (Your reasoning is that your son is a stellar student and you see he is capable of reaching the stars. You ALSO notice that he is VERY VERY easily distracted, so you keep him from the distractions - phone and tv.) Your son has never seen a tv, nor ever had a phone and thus assumes, all households function normally like his. (You, being the elder, the father can see that if your son gets a phone - say an Iphone 5(which you can EASILY afford for him and would love to) - he is bound to end up getting attention from ALL types of girls which may lead to him losing focus from becoming the best he can be (AND THEN getting girls) and end up following wrong attention, sleeping with a girl and then getting her pregnant and shutting his dreams down. Or maybe he ends up lking the attention, wanting to be cool, and ends up in a gang which in turn takes him to prison and SHUTS his dreams down.

As a father you FORSEE all this, do you explain to him EVERY single reason why? No, you just easily solve the problem by preventing access to these things in the first place. THEN you point out those things to them and say "Son, do not ever watch that box , you will die" (You are NOT lying to him, if he does watch the tv, he will engage in activities that WILL lead to his death), the beginning of a criminal in jail started with ONE LITTLE TINY NEGLIGIBLE THING - that's how it starts.

So a drug dealer tells him and his friend that they won't die if they watch TV. (they don't know he is a drug dealer) And he puts on a very interesting show for them, and voila they did not DROP DEAD. So did your son DISOBEY you or not? (mind you, you have provided OTHER forms of VERY WELL MEANING, LIVELY entertainment for your son) should he be punished?

RationalDude: A grown man that didn't know what unclothedness meant or that he was naked for that matter. He was a baby put in the body of a man and as such was a naive fellow. Why was god always coming to check up on him if he was fully capable of taking care of the garden?

his way? What are you on about?

He had no choice but to eat the damn fruit, his soulmate had already done the same without falling dead, he also would have assumed that god lied to them.

How convenient

What is sin?

Read the op again but this time carefully.

After we must have completely obliterated ourselves because of our beliefs.

Money, DUH

2s£xy:
This is an effective question with yearnings for attention. But unfortunately only a very few people take their time to ponder over such a question.

So, what do millionaires see that others don't?

Lagos State belongs as much to the ethnic Igbo as to the Yoruba, Ijaw, Hausa, Fulani, Efik, Idoma, Urhobo, Itshekiri, Edo, and so on who live in it, pay tax, identify with it, and settle in it. In fact, the mere fact that Lagos still exists can be attributed to the Igbos.

The Igbo had the skill and the industry, and Lagos was the seat of the Federal Government of Nigeria and its major port. The Igbo have lived in Lagos since the 15th century when the Aro and other Igbo first settled in good number in a place we now call “Oyingbo” in the era of Benin and the Portuguese trade. The arrival of Azikiwe to Lagos in 1937 from Accra after his studies in the United States, stimulated the political and cultural environment of Lagos as no other has before or after him. Zik literally resurrected the wizard of Kirsten hall from political death. Zik represented Lagos in the western house. The NCNC was the power in Lagos, and not the Action Group. The Igbo were prominent in the governance of Lagos in the Lagos City Hall.

The institutional development of Lagos – the railways, the ports and shipyards; the education and research facilities; the Banking and Commodities Exchange, the development of towns like Yaba, Surulere, Ebutta-Metta, Festac Town, Victoria Island, and now increasing the Ajah-Lekki axis, and of course, the ghettoes along the Orile-Badagry axis, have profound Igbo imprimatur.

The circulation of the image of Lagos is to date best reflected in the cosmopolitan Igbo imagination of one of the greatest African writers of the 20th century, Cyprian Ekwensi, a thorough Lagosian if there was any. Igbos have built industries in Lagos and have been drivers of commerce and exchange.

Only the strangers in our midst will not notice participation of economic development in our state by the Igbos. Most houses and shops in Lagos Island have been purchased, developed and occupied by the Igbos. The value of their investments in Lagos Island alone is in trillions of naira

he is psychotic

bigfrancis21: First off I don't see what connects South Africa to this or what concerns South Africa with Nigeria or the Igbos. Are you clearly mentally ok or what? Its only a loser who feels challenged that runs off to start making unnecessary comparisons with a tribe who isn't competing with them.

All the efforts being made here are just to belittle the Igbo achievement in the world. Isn't that silly? Imagine the gang up. A whole South Africa(with all its tribes) as against just one tribe - Igbo. cheesy Plus the one who rides the fence very well as if Igbos care about his uneventful existence. He doesn't even sound intelligent or mature. You're indeed a child.grin

No thread on nairaland generates much furore, attention and traffic than any Igbo thread where people filled with hate, evil, envy come just to spew hatred because they feel challenged and insecure.grin

Nigeria still remains the Giant of Africa! We didn't give ourselves that name. The world did! grin

YET, the Igbos are the MOST innovative, prudent, diligent individuals that DESPITE THE STORMY situation they find themselves in, they Hustle and BECOME GIANTS. What do yorubas do other than "answer their father's name and spend DADDY's MONEY (hello Davido)"

They are relevant enough CNN featured them http://www.cnn.com/2013/02/01/world/africa/nigeria-jews-igbo/index.html
