Covid -19: The prosperity of the western world and Asia is driven by innovation. But the key is to commercialize innovation. The government and private sector industries have a large role to play here, the latter even more. The innovations by these young Nigerians to fight the Covid-19 pandemic in a preventive manner should NOT go to waste, as has been the case far too often..... Whether bird flu, the coronavirus COVID-19, MERS or Zika, the threat of a serious epidemic can strike fear in people across the globe. It’s wise to respect these infections. After all, each can seriously sicken people. Still, there’s no reason to panic. You can protect yourself by practicing good hygiene. My advise: 1. Wash your hands! Often. Assume that sneezes or germy hands have left infectious residues on every surface that you have not personally cleaned or seen cleaned (especially outside your home). Scrub away for 20 seconds. Don’t forget to wash between fingers and under nails. If soap and water is unavailable, you can disinfect hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Another option: If you have to turn a door knob, put a clean tissue or paper towel between the knob and your hand. 2. Disinfect surfaces. These include desk tops, phone keypads, computer keyboards, TV remotes, door handles and kitchen counters. Rub them down with a rag or paper towel that has been dampened with alcohol-based disinfectant. (Don’t get electronics wet. A dampened rag is sufficient and won’t harm your devices.) 3. Don’t eat food or handle dishes or utensils touched by a sick family member. If you must touch a spoon someone else has handled (but not had in their mouth), do so. Then wash your hands. 4. Don’t share a towel with anyone in your household who is sick. Get your own and make sure it is washed regularly with hot water. Dry towels in the sun or a hot dryer cycle. 5. Don’t shake hands, kiss or hug people. This is the time for fist- or elbow bumps. Or smile from an arm’s distance. 6. Don’t touch your face. It’s hard not to. Most people do it without thinking several times each hour. But germs you pick up from touching a contaminated surface may begin reproducing as soon as they contact moist areas of our eyes, nose and mouth. 7. Avoid crowds. If you must go out where plenty of people are present, whenever possible keep a cough’s distance away from them — about a meter (or yard). Someone near to you may be infected and show no symptoms. 8. Wear gloves while out in public. Any cotton, wool or lycra glove will do. Don’t touch the outside of the gloves when you remove them. And once home, wash the gloves in hot water (but don’t dry wool ones with heat or they’ll shrink). Disposable latex or other types of plastic gloves can be reused several times if you spray the outside with an alcohol-based disinfectant right before taking them off. 9. Don’t share papers. Now is the time to use digital documents. If your teachers don’t ask you to write papers on a computer, suggest it. But make sure that everyone is expecting to move documents this way and looks for them. When it comes to the daily mail, dispose of envelopes and any papers you don’t need as soon as you can. And then wash your hands. 10. Practice good hygiene. Wash your hands. Cough and sneeze into your elbow. Keep in mind that you may become infected and show no symptoms. This means you might be able to infect people at high risk of serious disease, such as an elderly grandparent or a classmate with asthma Stay safe Maintain social distance always Wash your hands regularly This message is brought to you by The House of Maye of Yoruba kingdom

There is no doubt that the coronavirus pandemic has exposed the frailties of the human race. It has also wrecked the world economy. However, it has also brought out the best in some people as many Nigerians have come to the aid of the underprivileged members of society. TOFARATI IGE takes a look at wealthy Nigerians who have donated huge amounts of money to cushion the effects of the pandemic Aliko Dangote Being the richest black man in the world is no mean feat. And living up to the billing, Aliko Dangote, does not believe in doing small things. Whenever he wants to give, he gives big. Shortly after the first case of coronavirus was reported in the country, Dangote, donated a hefty sum of N2bn to the government to battle the disease.Dangote also partnered with Access Bank to provide treatment, testing, training and isolation centres across the country. Folorunsho Alakija Billionaire businesswoman and philanthropist, Folorunsho Alakija, is one woman who has repeatedly shown that she has the milk of human kindness flowing in her veins. Apparently disturbed by the damaging effect the coronavirus pandemic could have on the country, Alakija, who is the MD of Famfa Oil Limited, gave the Federal Government N1bn as her form of support against the rampaging pandemic. The donation was made on behalf of she and her husband, Modupe.Alakija’s non-governmental organisation, Rose of Sharon Foundation, is known for helping widows and orphans through business grants and scholarships. Tony Elumelu That Tony Elumelu is a mentor to many— both young and old— is incontestable. The economist, entrepreneur and philanthropist is the Chairman of Heirs Holding, United Bank for Africa and Transcorp, as well as being the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, which empowers African entrepreneurs to create jobs on the continent. Elumelu has often said that he is deeply passionate about Africa and wants to see the continent grow. On a number of occasions, he has donated to worthy causes, especially as regards youths. For the fight against COVID-19, the suave personality donated N1bn. Ramon Adedoyin Multi Billionaire and business guru. Dr Ramon Adedoyin is one of the most important person in educational sector.. He is the chairman, founder and chancellor of unique citizen university, ghana. oduduwa university, nigeria, our saviour university,Usa.he is also blessed with other companies and organizations,,hotels and two polytechnics in Nigeria.. He is the son of the soil and current Maye of Yoruba kingdom Bola Tinubu A former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, is one of the most influential politicians in the country despite not holding any public position since he left as governor after serving two terms in 2007. Considering that the index case of coronavirus in Nigeria was reported in Lagos, it is not surprising that the astute politician fondly called ‘Asiwaju’ quickly sprang to action. On the occasion of his 68th birthday, the APC chieftain donated N200m to the Federal Government and Lagos State Government. He wrote on Twitter, “Today, but for COVID-19, we would, as we have done for the last 12 years, have celebrated this day with the Bola Tinubu Colloquium. This year, we could not but by God’s grace, we will do so again. “The circumstances this year prevent us from gathering together to celebrate my birthday but I would still like to mark the occasion. “That is why I have chosen today to announce that I will be making a donation of N200m to fight this deadly virus. Pursuant to this pledge, N100m will be made available to the government of Lagos State and another N100m to the NCDC to support their efforts in fighting COVID-19.” Theophilus Danjuma A former soldier, politician, businessman, Theophilus Danjuma, through the Victims Support Fund, set up a task force on COVID-19 to distribute food and drugs worth N1bn to internally displaced persons and other vulnerable groups across the country. In a statement that accompanied the donation, Danjuma wrote, “This intervention became necessary in view of the global devastation of the coronavirus pandemic and the huge human challenges it poses for the country. “As a country, we must all do what we can to ensure that the spread is curtailed. “The task force will provide N1bn worth of medical supplies, food, water and non-food items for IDPs and others, who will face special challenges at this difficult time.” Femi Otedola Charismatic billionaire, Femi Otedola, is a man who gives like it is going out of fashion. He has donated huge sums of money to different causes in the past and the coronavirus pandemic is not an exception. Otedola, through his company, Amperion Power Distribution Limited, donated N1bn to the Federal Government to fight against the disease. Abdulsamad Rabiu The founder of BUA Group, Abdulsamad Rabiu, is an active and big player on the Nigerian business scene. With his interests cutting across several areas including iron and steel, cement, sugar refining and real estate, Rabiu does know his onion when it comes to entrepreneurship. Having made his fortune in Nigeria, the billionaire doesn’t hesitate to come to the country’s aid when his help is needed. He donated N1bn to the fight against COVID-19 pandemic. Jim Ovia Business and founder of Zenith Bank, Jim Ovia, is one man who likes to keep his personal life private. He prefers to concentrate on his business interest. Like others in his ilk have done, Ovia also stepped up to the plate to ‘knock down’ COVID-19 pandemic. He donated N1bn to the cause. Ovia also engages in other philanthropic activities through the Mankind United to Support Total Education and Youth Empowerment/ICT Foundation, among other non-governmental organisations. Oba Otudeko Businessman, Oba Otudeko, is the founder and chairman of the Honeywell Group. He is also a respected philanthropist and he uses his Oba Otudeko Foundation to silently empower many irrespective of where they come from.He donated N1bn to the Federal Government to wipe out the coronavirus pandemic out of the country. Mike Adenuga The founder of Globacom and Conoil, Mike Adenuga, GCON, is an enigma of sorts. Many admire his business sense and courage but they rarely ever get to see him because he refers to be out of the limelight. Though Adenuga doesn’t relish appearing in public, he has been a blessing to several people across different walks of life. Through his non-governmental organisation, Mike Adenuga Foundation, the businessman donated a whooping N1bn to the government towards the eradication of the virus. |
Good points you raised sir, but in the case of Nigeria, it is impossible to unite everybody because our political leaders are benefiting from the division. Remember Sunny Okosun's "which way Nigeria" in the early 80's then you will understand my view because some people want to lord it over the rest of the country and of course it would fail like it happened in many other climes in the past. I understand |
WHY TOLERANCE IS NOT AN OPTION Dear Friends, In the face of the kind of divisiveness that we face as a nation today, I consider the application of logic as illogical. My position is based on the premise that abnormal situations brings about abnormal measures. It is not logical to apply logic when illogical things are happening. When people take up arms and slaughter other humans who are defenceless, harmless, and most times innocent, that is illogical. When our security forces rely on vigilantes to protect our societies, that is illogical. When you can’t make a phone call in a “NEPA” office because of the loud sound from generators, that is illogical. If we want to apply logic, then it is an eye for an eye, and soon enough, all of us will be blind. Now, I am not advocating that we ignore veritable threats to lives, especially now that our security forces seems overwhelmed, No! Everyone has a right to life and security, even when it means safeguarding those rights by oneself. What I am advocating is that we imbibe the spirits of restraint, from engaging in rhetoric that will escalate an already dicey situation. I am advocating the bridging of gaps that could enable our nation’s best minds to come together and work together to create ground breaking innovations in science, technology, the arts, and importantly, governance. Recently, I learned that China has about 56 ethnic groups. Who knew? But see where they are! Today Rwanda is becoming a beacon of development and progress because of what I may describe as an enforced National policy of tolerance. Rwandans after emerging from one of the most brutal ethnic conflicts in history, realized that the only way to move forward is through tolerance. Do you know that in Rwanda, it is criminal to identify yourself on the basis of your ethnicity? Everyone is Rwandan. If we must move forward as a people, we will have to start looking beyond where our leaders should come from, and start focusing on what they can do. And in other to achieve that, tolerance is not an option. It is a vital necessity at the moment. One day, let’s learn to and preach tolerance. God bless us all. From Monday, 4th of May, the lockdown relaxation begins. Please BE CAREFUL. Social distancing should still be in place. Some COVID-19 patients are asymptomatic. Don't wait for sneezing or cough before you keep your distance. Ensure you make use of face mask and make sure it is not suffocating you. Wash your hands with soap and water. Sanitize your hands but remember sanitizers are inflamable. If possible, avoid commercial bike; if possible for now. You don't know the health status of the rider. Don't shake hands for now. No hugging for now, except your spouse. If you are in the car with anyone, do not put on aircon, other passenger(s ) may be carrier(s). This is not a time to visit or play host to friends. Exercise is any bodily activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness and overall health and wellness. It is performed for various reasons, to aid growth and improve strength, preventing aging, developing muscles and the cardiovascular system, honing athletic skills, weight loss or maintenance, improving health and also for enjoyment. Many individuals choose to exercise outdoors where they can congregate in groups, socialize, and enhance well-being. In terms of health benefits, the amount of recommended exercise depends upon the goal, the type of exercise, and the age of the person. Even doing a small amount of exercise is healthier than doing none At this pandemic period,i encourage us to exercise regularly and stay protected. "Life is unpredictable" it is basically a journey that No One knows how it'll end. Ya ALLAH grant us & our families the best end.amin.masalaam It’s real! It’s killing! Let’s stop the spread! THE WAY FORWARD Accumulating wealth is worthless without life. Now, I can understand the fact that even without Fire, we can all be erased within couple of days. Please impact souls positively at all times. As individuals who form the nucleus part of a society how have we fared that will reflect on our society positively over the past years? Now to the larger society and to institutions, with over 13 Million children out of school in the country, that is about the size of kano plus Zamfara or Lagos plus Ekiti or 27% or more of the whole south east Nigeria, what are the institutional plans to get these kids back into school and also safe guard their lives after school after pandemic period ? it has become important that when citizens choose good over evil, institutions choose planing over failure, the society grows and the people are happier. Let's resolve to choose good over evil in this covid 19 period . What this means is that no one would be happy to see N37billion going into "renovation" for 469 persons while education gets N48billion for 200 Million persons. In my state, education budget for 2020 got less than 10%, of the N148billion, I think we can do better, I think we should do better. As we resume to our place of work from Monday, we should mark out the bad ways and work towards the good ways, we should follow the teachings of the Holy Quran : "The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty" We should also imbibe the spirit of giving, and sharing in this pandemic period , if we wish the nation to grow, we should call on all warring factions especially the notorious Boko Haram to lay down their arms as we are all witness to the rivers of blood that flows through Nigeria. I therefore call on all leaders to bridge the gaps of division, ethnicity, regionalism and work for the greatness of Nigeria. In the same spirit I will urge the government to in the spirit of lock down resolve to do good and use it's enormous powers to find abducted citizens to reunite them with their families. It's time to get our dear country working again. #maintain social distance #wash your hands regularly #stay safe Dr Ramon Adedoyin Chancellor Oduduwa university.

ALLOW OUR PROFESSORS TO RESEARCH INTO LOCAL HERBS TO COMBAT CORONAVIRUS.---Dr Ramon Adedoyin Tells FG His Royal Eminence Dr. AbdulRahaman Adegoke Atobatele Adedoyin Renowned Educationist and Chancellor of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Ife North Local Government, osun Nigeria. His Royal Eminence, Dr. AbdulRahaman Adegoke Atobatele Adedoyin has urged the Federal government to encourage Nigeria scientists and researchers to explore the use of local traditional herbs in the treatment of the dreaded COVID-19 (Coronavirus) which is spreading through the country like wildfire. Dr. Adedoyin made the appeal while fielding questions from newsmen at his Maye's Castle of Peace in Ile-Ife.osun. Speaking against the backdrop of claims by some Nigerians living abroad that some local herbs and recipes could actually be used to combat and treat the stubborn disease, the Ife born Prince noted that before the advent of orthodox medicine, our forefathers used traditional herbs to treat different ailments and diseases successfully. "This particular one looks like "lukuluku" and was curtailed then. I have heard a number of our people claimed they used things like "ori" sheerbutter, garlic, lemons, palm oil etc to cure the corona virus," Adedoyin reiterated. He advised the Nigerian government to look inwards and try to find internal and homegrown solution to the disease rather than wait for solutions from the western world which may not come anytime soon. Annoying made reference to some African countries like Madagascar which recently launched a drug which the country claimed can prevent and cure patients suffering from COVID-19 as a result of research by the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research. "I am setting up a research institute inside Oduduwa University immediately and has earmarked $50,000 for this purpose alone" According to him, Madagascar was able to look inwards and conduct researches making use of local materials to proffer a solution to virus pandemic to the applause of the whole world. He advocated that research be conducted into the properties of such local herbs and recipes like Garlic, Ginger, Tumeric, Shea Butter, Bitter Kola among others which many people are claiming can be used in combatting the coronavirus pandemic.
