By Ikechukwu Nnochiri ABUJA —An Abuja High Court sitting at Apo, yesterday, struck out the six-count charge the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, preferred against former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, over alleged N1.97 billion contract fraud. Trial judge, Justice Olukayode Adeniyi, also discharged the defendants, after the charge was withdrawn by the prosecution. The charge was withdrawn on a day the court earlier gave the anti-graft agency leave to produce its witnesses to establish that Orubebe, who served under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, diverted funds meant for the compensation of owners of property on Eket Urban section of the East-West Road in Eket, Akwa Ibom State. Other defendants in the charge were an Assistant Director at the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Oludare Alaba, and the Director of Contracts, Gitto Costruzioni Generali Nig. Ltd., Mr. Ephraim Zari. However, shortly after the defendants were arraigned, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, in a letter to Chairman of ICPC, with Ref No. DPPA/MNDA/345/16, confirmed that the N1,965,576,153.46, which Orubebe allegedly diverted, “has not been expended, but awaiting further contract decisions and directives from the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.” The AGF’s letter dated December 16, 2016 by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed U. E, said: “In view of the above, the basis for the prosecution of the accused persons for misappropriation does not exist and thus, further prosecution cannot be justified. “I am directed to convey the directive of the AGF, involuntary his powers under section 174(1) (c) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), sections 105 and 109 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, that you drop the charge against the suspects.” www.vanguardngr.com/2017/04/alleged-n1-97bn-fraud-why-court-struck-out-charge-against-orubebe/ |

RETWEET... In 1999, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu was
elected
Governor of Lagos State. His then party, the Alliance for
Democracy (AD) produced all the governors of the South
West.
By 2003, Tinubu was the onl y governor left in the AD.
He was
under pressure to decamp but he stayed. He built the
party and it
became stronger.
For the eight years that he ruled Lagos, he hired several
guys to
work with him. I think he carefully picked them. Apart
from using
them to work in his government, he also groomed them
for the
future.
Eight years down the line, see where those Tinubu guys
are today -
1. Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN was Tinubu's Attorney
General and
Commissioner for Justice. He is today, Nigeria's Vice
President.
2. Rauf Aregbesola was Tinubu's Commissioner for
Works. Today
he is serving his second tenure as Governor of Osun
State.
3. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN was Tinubu's Chief of
Staff and
successor in office. He is today Nigeria's Minister of
Power, Works
and Housing.
4. Alhaji Lai Mohammed was Tinubu's first Chief of Staff.
He is
today, Nigeria's Minister of Information.
5. Babatunde Fowler was appointed by Tinubu as
Chairman of the
Lagos State Internal Revenue Service. Today, he is the
Executive
Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service.
At the National Assembly, there are countless "Tinubu
boys" who
have occupied and are still occupying seats till today.
Since 1999, the Tinubu camp has produced almost 98%
of the
members of the National Assembly from Lagos State.
Forget politics, this man is a political enigma.
Rewind to 1999, I am sure most of us have forgotten the
names of
the People who were elected Governors then. Some of
them have
gone out of circulation. Some are gasping for breath
politically.
Indeed, most of them are no longer relevant today.
Who still remembers Mbadinuju of Anambra State, Jolly
Nyame of
Taraba, Mohammed Lawal of Kwara, Segun Osoba of
Ogun,
Attahiru Bafarawa of Sokoto, Achike Udenwa of Imo,
Victor Attah
of Akwa Ibom, Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia? That one has lost
two
consecutive senatorial elections.
But Tinubu has not only managed to remain extremely
relevant, he
has continued to control Lagos politics 100%. Not only
that, he
manages to carry his boys along and today they occupy
critical
positions in our national life.
Take it or leave it, Tinubu is today, Nigeria's most
powerful
politician. It didn't just happen by chance. He worked
very hard for
it. Very very hard.
The hallmark of a true leader is not just the ability to
rule well but
also the ability to nurture and groom his associates.
Oga Tinubu, TUALE SIR!!!

10 TYPE OF A WOMAN YOU SHOULD NEVER MARRY While we can all agree that nobody is perfect, there are actually a few things that would adversely affect a relationship if a man chooses to partner with a woman with some not-so-great attributes. Naij.com presents you with the 10 kinds of woman a man should think twice about making a wife. 1. The Bitter Woman: You know that woman that always seems to be angry at the menfolk all the time? Perhaps she has had her heart broken one too many times, but this woman is always bashing on men and talking about how they are no-good or useless. A man might not want to settle down with someone so bitter as it is guaranteed that when the opportunity arises, she would hurl hurtful insults and intense, hateful words his way due to all her unresolved anger. 2. The Selfish Woman: If you want a happy home and a partner that wants your happiness as well as hers, then you should steer clear of the selfish woman. A woman who is determined to make sure she always comes first would not be able to build a cheerful and loving home with you. 3. The Materialistic Woman: A woman obsessed with material things would certainly not make the best wife. If all she cares about are material possession over family, faith and spiritual fulfillment, then she will not make the best partner. 4. The Flirty Woman : Are you attracted to that woman that always seems to flirt with one person or another? She flirts like a butterfly from one man to another and makes all men feel like she is interested in them. Well, beware, because a habit like that might be hard to break after marriage and you would not want to start hearing that your wife has had flirty conversations with all the men in the neighbourhood. 5. The Party Freak : She is invited to every party and attends them all. She is always dressed in the most flashy clothes and is the ultimate party girl. She lives for the next big gathering and cannot say no to an invitation. Such woman might not be the type to settle down in a marriage. 6. The Spoilt-Brat : A woman who grew up having everything handed to her and has never had the experience of actually working for something is unlikely to make the best wife. No matter how much you might be willing to provide her with the kind of lifestyle she grew up with, remember, marriage comes with kids and kids require sacrifice. If she has never had to work or make sacrifices for anything in her life, it is unlikely that she would start now. 7. The Attention Seeker: While some women naturally like attention, when it becomes an obsession, then it is not a good idea. A good husband makes sure he has time for his wife, but this cannot happen 100percent of the time so a good wife should understand that. 8. The Gossip : Does she always seem to never mind her own business? Is she always focused on what someone else is doing or how someone else is living their life? Then you do not need this kind of woman as a wife. A man needs someone that would build a home with him and this requires some focus on her own plans and her own life. If she is too busy minding someone else’s business, then you are fighting a losing battle. 9. The Commitment-Phobe : A woman who finds it difficult to commit to anything (school, jobs, family, friendship, etc) would also not be able to commit to a marriage. If she seems to lose interest in everything quickly and is always looking for the next thing to jump into, then you would have a hard time keeping her focused in her marriage. 10. The Disrespectful Woman: If she seems to always be disrespectful and rude (even if it is to people she considers beneath her standards) then you need to think twice about marrying her. Respect for a fellow human being is a very important attribute in who we choose to spend the rest of our lives with so it is definitely not something that should be taken lightly. feel free to add ours |

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigerians to continue supporting and praying for his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari, as terrorist activities intensify. Jonathan said this on his official Facebook page on Sunday while reacting to the Church bombing in Yobe which left over six people dead. The former President, who has been silent for several weeks, said the Sunday attack was a sad reminder that the war against terror is a task for all Nigerians and not only the armed forces. He said, “The death of any Nigerian at the hands of terrorists is a sad reminder that the war on terror is a task for all Nigerians not just the armed forces. I urge all Nigerians to continue to pray for peace in Nigeria and to support the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari as the government does its best to bring an end to these acts of terror and secure all Nigerians. May God bless Nigeria.” The death of any Nigerian at the hands of terrorists is a sad reminder that the war on terror is a task for all… Posted by Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday, July 5, 2015 www.punchng.com/news/keep-praying-for-buhari-jonathan/ |

jOkE oF tHe DaY... A little boy goes to his dad and asks, "Daddy what is politics?" Dad says, "Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I'm the breadwinner of the family, so let's call me capitalism. Your Mom, she's the administrator of the money, so we'll call her the Government. We're here to take care of your needs, so we'll call you the people. The house help, we'll consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we'll call him the Future. Now, think about that and see if that makes sense," So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what dad had said. Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper. So the little boy goes to his parents' room and finds his mother sound asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the house help's room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the house help. He gives up and goes back to bed. The next morning, the little boy says to his father, "Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now." The father says, "Good son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about." The little boy replies, "Well, while Capitalism is messing with the Working Class, the Government is sound asleep, the People are being ignored and the Future is in deep poo." |

ORON—Repentant militant leaders in the Niger Delta have threatened to cut off the supply of petroleum products to Northern Nigeria, should the North oppose the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015. The ex-militants, at their meeting in Oron, Akwa Ibom State, also threatened to ensure that the North did not benefit from crude oil proceeds generated from the Niger Delta region. The ex-militants converged in Oron under the aegis of the Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative, where they assessed the handling of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, projects by contractors. President of the group, Mr. Reuben Wilson, said that their interest was to ensure that Jonathan returned to office in 2015, while anybody opposed to the idea would be considered an enemy of the region. He said: “We met in Oron to review developments in the country, particularly the interest of the Niger Delta people. You will agree that the Niger Delta is the main stay of the nation’s economy. You will also agree with me that the Niger Delta people are sustaining the economy at great inconveniences and pains to its people and the environment. This has been the only time that the region has had the privilege of producing a president for the country. “It is unthinkable that the North will be plotting against our son, intimidating him with bomb blasts here and there and causing the untimely death of scores of innocent Nigerians, all because they want to take back power. “We have always seen the need for us to live together as one indivisible country and that is what Mr. President believes in.” www.vanguardngr.com/2014/07/jonathans-re-election-ex-militants-vow-to-cut-off-fuel-supply-to-north-if/#comment-1817292677 |
Dr Judy Asuni is the executive Director Academic Associate Peaceworks. She has been at the forefront of reforming armed youths otherwise called militants in the Niger Delta for close to a decade. In this interview, Dr Asuni speaks on efforts by her body to ensure a violent free election. She also expresses worries that some of the armed groups in the region have started returning to the creeks. Excerpt: Judith Asuni Judith Asuni What are your fears about the coming elections My fears are that we may see even more violence than we saw in previous elections. The stakes are very high now. I have just been to Abuja, the tensions in the north, people in the north feeling it is time to get their Representatives back. People In the South South are feeling that Goodluck Jonathan should continue as President. I am afraid that the stakes are higher than before. We are working on a project with funding from Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta, PIND, on non violent elections for 2015. We have worked for more than a decade now with members of the armed groups in the Niger Delta. They killed some of the young men in political violence in the past. So we are trying to get the message home that you may be hired to harass, intimidate and steal ballot boxes by opponents but ultimately you can lose your lives in the process. We are doing a series of videos about people who have been killed in political violence. Talking to their wives, their children, sometimes their mothers. It is very sad, because the long time impact is huge, children growing up without any father. We interviewed a family where the child was in the womb when the father was killed. So this child has never known the father. In Rivers state we have had situations where APC secretariats have been reportedly bombed on two occasions, the PDP governorship candidate was also allegedly attacked during his campaign . Do you see people coming out to vote during the elections with violence already in the air? I hope that they will turn up for the elections. We are working on eighteen local governments areas likely prone to violence, one of them is Okirika where APC secretariat has been attacked. The other local governments are also prone to violence . One thing we are trying to do is get people to take control of the elections themselves, take control of the governance process. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/armed-groups-back-creeks-niger-delta-asuni/ |
