Trump calls for 'immediate' cease-fire in Ukraine, says U.S. withdrawal from NATO is possible

Donald Trump on Sunday pushed Russian President Vladimir Putin to act to reach an immediate cease-fire with Ukraine, describing it as part of his active efforts as president-elect to end the war despite being weeks from taking office.

“Zelenskyy and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness," Trump wrote on social media, referring to Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trump also said he would be open to reducing military aid to Ukraine and pulling the United States out of NATO, in a television interview that aired Sunday.

Asked on NBC's “Meet the Press” if he were actively working to end the nearly 3-year-old Ukraine war, Trump said, “I am.”

He refused to say if he had spoken to Putin since winning election in November. “I don’t want to say anything about that, because I don’t want to do anything that could impede the negotiation,” Trump said.

I have already seen their agents on this forum posting "videos and pictures" of jubilant Syrians tearing down the pictures and monuments to the Assads. Lol. Is that not familiar to you guys? We saw the same charade in Iraq and Libya, where statues of Gaddafi and Saddam were torn down by a selected crowd of "angry unknowns", with camera men from the CNN and the BBC already positioned to capture the theatrical displays for maximum propaganda effects. What happened next in those countries? Endless turmoil. If any one believes that there are something like the opposition with the capability to topple the government in Syria, that person is joking. The west with Isreal formulated this new "opposition" for Assad, and as a result, Syrians are toast.

No foreign military base will be allowed in Nigeria – CDS Musa

The Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Gen. Christopher Musa, has refuted reports alleging that permission had been granted to France to establish an expeditionary military base in Nigeria.

Musa condemned the insinuation that the recent visit of President Bola Tinubu to France, where a lot of bilateral agreements were signed, included allowing foreign military bases in Nigeria.

The Defense Chief gave the clarification on Friday during the unveiling of the Armed Forces of Nigeria 2025 Tattoo Logo at the Defence Headquarters Abuja.

He said no foreign military base will be allowed in Nigeria.

“Mr President has said it should be very clear. Whatever he was signing is a bilateral agreement on trade, on culture, on tradition, on cooperation, on economy.
“Nothing like that. Mr President knows the implication. He knows that he must protect Nigeria and he will never allow any foreign body.

“We will continue to partner together bilaterally because we do training together and we will consistently send our officers which is a normal thing but having foreign military base in Nigeria is not part of Mr President’s plan.

“So I want to trust this as an opportunity to make that clarification,” he said.

Britain and the world stand at the "dawn of a third nuclear age", the head of the UK armed forces has warned.

Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, the Chief of the Defence Staff, issued the dire message after fears that the British Army would be entirely destroyed within months of a major conflict were raised by ex-Royal Marine MP Alistair Carns
Radakin, speaking at the Royal United Services Institute (Rusi) defence think tank, said Britain needed to be "clear-eyed" on the threats it and its allies face in the wake of significant escalation in the Ukraine war.

"We are at the dawn of a third nuclear age, which is altogether more complex," he said.

"It is defined by multiple and concurrent dilemmas, proliferating nuclear and disruptive technologies and the almost total absence of the security architectures that went before."
Radakin said some of the threats facing the Western world included "wild threats of tactical nuclear use" by Russia, China ramping up its weapons stockpile, Iran's failure to co-operate with a nuclear deal, and North Korea's "erratic behaviour".
