The Algerian Foreign Ministry has ordered the Ukrainian embassy to delete a post on its Facebook page inviting Algerians to go to Ukraine to join the fight against the Russian invasion.

The embassy post, which was published on Thursday, said that Ukraine was seeking "foreign nationals" to "join the resistance to the Russian occupiers and protect world security".

"Anyone who wants to join the defence of security in Europe and in the world can come and stand alongside the Ukrainians against the invaders of the 21st century," it read.

The message was removed after Algeria's Foreign Ministry said that the post "violated the provisions of the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations between states", a source told the Algerian news website TSA.

As in Algeria, the Senegalese authorities requested that the Ukrainians "immediately withdraw " the invitation and cease "without delay any procedure for enlisting people of Senegalese or foreign nationality".

The Senegalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the recruitment of volunteers, mercenaries, or foreign fighters on the territory of the country was "illegal and liable to the penalties provided for by law".

Western countries training far-right extremists in Ukraine - report

Canada, the US, France, the UK and other Western countries have helped train far-right extremists in Ukraine, a report by the Institute for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (IERES) at George Washington University revealed last month.
The report found that members of Centuria, a far-right organization intent on reshaping Ukraine's military to align with its ideology, received training from Western countries while at the Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Army Academy (NAA).
Centuria describes itself as a military order of "European traditionalist" military officers who aim to "defend" the "cultural and ethnic identity" of European peoples against "Brussels’ politicos and bureaucrats," according to the report. The group is led by people with ties to Ukraine's far-right Azov movement. Members have been photographed giving Nazi salutes and have made extremist statements online.

One of the leaders of Centuria wrote on VK in 2016 that Jews were "the destruction of humanity" and shared a post saying that Jews had tried to "exclude Ukraine from world history and the map of the world.” Ukraine's current president, Volodymyr Zelensky, is Jewish.
The group has claimed that its members have taken part in joint military exercises with France, the UK, Canada, the US, Germany, and Poland. One apparent member of the group, then NAA cadet Kyrylo Dubrovskyi, took part in an 11-month officer training course at the UK's Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2020.
The NAA receives and has access to funding and training from a number of Western countries.

Aljazeera just reported that Belarusians troops have crossed into Ukraine amid ongoing talks in Gomel. The Ukrainian defense ministry shows that Russian convoy heading into Kyiv is now 64km long and at the tip just 20km from the capital of Ukraine. Russian forces are also now deploying cluster bombs which will lead to unwarranted killing of civilians. Cluster bombs are banned by more than 100 countries. The move has been decried as a major and unnecessary escalation amid peace talk.

The Belarusian troops are yet to engage in military activities on Ukrainian soil.

A judge in Lagos also sentenced two co-defendants to life for abducting businessman Donatus Dunu in 2017.

The CEO of a pharmaceuticals firm was held for nearly three months before managing to escape and telling police about his ordeal. This enabled officers to catch Evans and his gang.

An employee of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Ltd told the court in 2018 that he had paid a ransom of about $260,000 (£195,000) to the kidnappers for the release of his boss - but he had not been freed.

Justice Hakeem Oshodi said the men showed no remorse for their crimes.

“I believe a lesson must be taught,” he was quoted as saying when handing down the sentence

For several years, gangs nationwide have been kidnapping both rich and poor people - and sometimes killing abductees whose families fail to pay, and often demanding more money once a first ransom has been paid.
