SportsBest Paid Nigerian Footballers (exclusive List) by Papilo87(op): 12:07pm On Feb 21, 2013
The fortunes of Nigeria’s footballers in various football leagues across the world may be dwindling as very few are able to land lucrative deals at prestigious clubs unlike their counterparts from South America and some African countries like Ghana, Ivory Coast (where Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba pull in enviable amounts as wages).

However there are still many of Nigeria’s exports who earn big in their own right and below after extensive research I present to you the most definitive list of Nigeria’s highest earning footballers in 2012.

1. Yakubu Aiyegbeni

Age: 30
Club: Guangzhou R&F
Wage: £5.04 million

Yakubu, after proving himself for several seasons in the English Premier League the Yak made a big money move to China’s Guangzhou R&F where is reported to pull in nearly £100,000 weekly. In fact his annual take home at the Chinese club is placed at £5,040,000.

2. John Obi Mikel

Age: 25
Club: Chelsea FC
Annual Wage: £4.16 million

Mikel Obi the Chelsea midfielder was previously on a £2,600,000 (£50,000 per week) but recently signed a new five year contract with the European champions worth £4,160,000 annually. His hefty pay packet however suffers some substantial tax under the United Kingdom tax rules. Mikel also got a hefty bonus as part of the 2012 Champions League winning squad that lifted the trophy at the Alliance Arena, Munich in May 2012.

3. Taye Taiwo

Age: 27
Club: AC Milan
Wage: £3.36 million

The left back moved from Olympic Marseille to Milan FC in a 3 year lucrative move worth £3,360,000 per year. Though he has yet to break into the Milan team and has been shipped on loan so far to Queens Park Rangers and currently to FC Dynamo Kyiv Taye may not mind too much as he earns a princely sum and will not be due to renew his current contract until 2014.

4. John Utaka

Age: 31
Club: Montpellier
Wage: £2.08 million

After angry rumours that the former Eagles winger took home £80,000 a week at Portsmouth (at a time the club was in dire financial straits) the player had insisted he only earned about £30,000 at the now relegated club. Utaka joined Montpellier in 2011 in 2 and half year deal estimated at £40,000 per week.

After a few weeks of research and comparisons we release a list of the best paying jobs to watch out for in 2013. The rating is based on what entry to mid level personnel earned in these jobs in 2012.

We have considered entry level to mid level pay ranges in our projections below.

We consulted various Nigerian forums and professional websites, did interviews with insiders on the various concerned industries plus indepth analysis of the salary ranges for the thousands of jobs published on Ngcareers.com in 2012 to arrive at this list. Christianity EtcRe: Predictions For The First Quarter Of 2013 by Papilo87(m): 9:46am On Feb 02, 2013
Have carefully followed the so called Acidtalk's prediction and I can only Weep for my people. Such gullibility and shallow mindedness. A country that has refused to take its destiny in its hands resorts to breeding all manners of men claiming clairvoyance.

Ignoring the general observations he made about Nigeria politically in the name of prophecy i hone in on his ramblings about AFCON. Nigeria qualified (you decide whether its barely), All three North African countries failed at the group stage (What happened to one of them winning the title).

But what irks me so much is for the flip-flop called Acidtalk to then write that God gave him the gift and can change the outcomes slightly. Such blasphemy!!! What is wrong with our people. In the days of the Romans people like him get stoned for inducing confusion and blasphemy.

What is slight change in the fact that for instance I predict you will come first in an aptitude test out of 16 people and you barely come 8th. No farking North AFrican country qualified even for the quarters not to talk of the semis. There is nothing slight about that it is massive. SO is he saying God made a massive change to what HE had previously shown him?

To imagine that some people on here even started asking Acidtalk for help with their personal problems!!! Chai!! The worst thing that can happen to people is to totally lose a sense of personal conviction, willpower and self belief.

Just as all bloated fools do he then asks a fellow Nigerian who called his prophesy to question whether he (the challenger) would have disagreed with TB or Adebayo if they were the ones to have made the predictions. The challenger didn't disappoint as he made it clear to Acidtalk that not everyone holds those two men in high esteem.

While I do not have anything to say personally about the two men I make bold to say that a country where millions of people hold jet flying, corruption condoning and prophesy peddling preachers in high esteem it is a sure sign of a people in mental and religious bondage.

"Religion is the Opium of the masses"

This is more true for Nigeria than anywhere else.

My advice to fellow Nairalanders: Do your work with diligence, pray to whatever god or God you believe in and learn not to place your willpower in the hands of fellow mortals.
SportsRe: Prophecy Over Nigeria - Ivory Coast Match On Sunday by Papilo87(m): 9:16am On Feb 02, 2013
No be so one yeye prophet here by name "Acidtalk" been talk wetin im no understand about eagles and even went on to say some bullshit about a North African country winning AFCON 2013. FACT is all three North AFrican countries couldn't even make it out of the group stages.

Nigerian's penchant for falling to any dick who claims clairvoyance powers is laughable. It's a sign of a country on the decline, laziness and absolute inability to work to improve our fortunes. In saner climes all these prophets and bamboozling pastors would be ignored and jobless.

Here I even read some feeble minded fans asking Acidtalk how he can help to avert some of his prophecies while some even started seeking help from him for their personal problems! Such shallowness! It's appalling and doesn't make one wonder why so many Nigerians can outsmart a 419er but falls prey easily to religious con.

SportsExclusive List Of Nigeria's Top Earning And Most Paid Footballers In 2012 by Papilo87(op): 1:26pm On Jan 21, 2013
Nigerian footballers sure do not earn the sort of money some of their colleagues from other African countries like Ivory Coast (Didier Drogab, Yaya Toure), Cameroun (Samuel Eto) take home. However, that some of them earn quite impressive sums of money is very obvious.

NairaBrains a business and technology site has released a detailed list of top 8 earning Nigerian Footballers in 2012 and some surprise inclusions are made. Many do not know that several players playing outside the popular leagues in Europe made quite more money than many of their counterparts in the so-called top leagues (English Premiership, Spanish La Liga etc)

Enter the List:

The fortunes of Nigeria’s footballers in various football leagues across the world may be dwindling as very few are able to land lucrative deals at prestigious clubs unlike their counterparts from South America and some African countries like Ghana, Ivory Coast (where Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba pull in enviable amounts as wages).

5. Peter Osaze Odemwingie

Age: 31
Club: West Bromwich Albion
Annual Wage: £2.08 million

The West Brom Striker, who is a subject of transfer speculations linking him to Queens Park Rangers in the current January window currently is on a contract estimated at £40,000 weekly thus meaning he earns a decent £2,080,000 per year. Should his transfer to the Rangers go through he might earn as much as £70,000 per week.

6. Emmanuel Emenike

Age: 25
Club: Spartak Moscow
Wage: £2.1 million

The Spartak Moscow striker, according to MTNfootball, earns £2,100,000 annual wages. The Russian club also recently, in a contract extension till 2016, included a 42 million euros buyout clause. His wage is definitely taxed in Russia but not at the level in England.

7. Joseph Yobo

Age: 32
Club: Fenerbahce
Wage: £1.8 million

The Super Eagles skipper was involved in a protracted transfer between his former club Everton Fc and his new club Fenerbahce. Joseph Yobo earned £1,974,000 annually at Everton and it may appear he would have to take a slight pay cut after Fenerbahce coughed out £2.5 million to Everton FC for his transfer. The cut however may not be very significant as Yobo is reported to earn in the region of £1.8 million in wages per year in the three year deal at Fenerbahce. The plus for Yobo is that his earnings are barely taxed in Turkey unlike his colleagues in the United Kingdom who can pay up to 35% tax on income.

8. Kalu Uche

Age: 30
Club: Kasimpasa
Wage: £1.04 million plus a £630,000 transfer payout

The erstwhile Eagles midfielder got a heavy payday in 2012 when he got paid £630,000 being half of his transfer fee from Espanyol to Turkish club Kasimpasa. Kalu who had moved to Espanyol on a free from his previous Swiss club Neuchatal Xamas (Xamas had been declared bankrupt) and had an agreement with Espanyol to take 50% of any subsequent transfer fee if Espanyol were to sell. That heavy pay plus his estimated £20,000 weekly wage takes him straight into this list.

From GEJ to Buhari to Dickson to Chime and every politician outthere making same statement, Dem use am do memory verse for una ni? grin grin SMH

@Op... Get well soon Gov if u re still alive and RIP if you re dead huh huh
That's to tell you that there is already a script for these things. For all we know Sullivan may be in coma and the Commissioner will still issue the statement as if Chime was the one that said it. That's the way the politics works. If you check carefully also the statement by Mr Ugo Emezue the Chief Press Secretary to the Moronic Abia State Governor you will be shocked at the near similarity. Same with almost all others as you rightly noted.

So the issuing of a condolence in Sullivan's name means nothing as regards the debate of whether he is dead, in coma or seriously ill.

@nkonadi you have shown how little you know of the workings of government. A commissioner for information or Chief Press Secretary dishes out condolenced messages whether the Governor said it or not. It is standard practice and chime doesn't even need to be able to speak for Mr Chucks to issue a condolence message

BusinessMtn's Ultimate Wonder Promo: Why Are We So Fooled by Papilo87(op): 12:41pm On Aug 16, 2012
For some of us watching the unfolding scammist tendencies of the telecoms companies in Nigeria the height of deceit and corporate exploitation was reached when MTN launched recently its very borgouise and outright insulting “Ultimate Wonder Promo” promising a grand prize of an aeroplane or its equivalent in cash plus N200 million other cash prizes for people who recharge a specified amount regularly.

The Nigerian Communication Commission and other relevant corporate behaviour regulatory agencies have sat silently and watched telecom companies turn from their legitimate business of providing telecommunication services to churning out lotteries and gambling schemes in form of promotions. And now the telecom company with the worst reputation for exploitation has taken the banner a notch higher promising heaven and earth in a bid to scam more money from Nigerians.

We advise NCC to run a check and see if MTN runs these kind of insulting and abusing promos in other countries where they operate say South Africa for instance. They would pay heavy fines for insulting the very people who make their business tick.

When the pictures of the MTN Win Aeroplane promo broke on the internet we thought it was the work of a mischievous Nairalander but we finally saw with dismay the advert running on several TV stations. It’s been several days and yet nothing has been done.

The name of the promo itself smarks of scams and techniques used by con artists from the days of the American Yellow Kid. In the history of promos by telecom companies promising things such as “180 Millionaires in 180 Days” “N1 Million Naira Everyday for 90 Days” etc the NCC has never checked for instance if they actually gave out the number of millions or prizes promised to the specified number of winners. There is apparently no check in place to verify the correct adherence to corporate promotional standards.

Instead these companies go ahead and offer the millions to a few, get tens of journalists and media people to cover it and then sit back to continue pushing the promos without anybody giving a damn as to whether they adhere to the promises in their promo campaign.

It is also disheartening that our various media outfits just shamelessly accept to air or feature these ads without doing their watchdog work of ensuring that these companies actually stick to the promise and do not just fleece customers. Accepted that media outfits need to make money but not at the risk of helping companies cheat the public.

We also challenge the company’s Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer Mr. Larry Annetts to substantiate MTN’s claim that “last year, in commemoration of our 10th anniversary in Nigeria, we excited and enriched many Nigerians with the much-talked about ‘1 Billion Naira’ reward; where 90 lucky winners went home with cash prizes of N10m each among other mouth-watering prizes. This year again, through the MTN Automania game, a subscription-based initiative, the company is giving out 100 xi35 SUVs in a 100-day nationwide promo.”

And for saying that MTN has taken the the customer-reward concept to an unprecedented level where no brand has attempted in Africa they (MTN) should try and take such spurious, defrauding promos to countries with saner and more competent regulators and see if they will have such ignored. If it were in a clime where consumers are more proactive MTN would have been sued by a customer who fails to get the promised reward after spending the stated amounts to recharge.

We still expect Nigerians to help the NCC do their work by starting to take MTN and other insenstitive and irresponsible companies who undertake scam promos and gambling ventures instead of focusing on improving services offered to customers.

BusinessWhere To Invest Your Money In 2012 by Papilo87(op): 12:21pm On Dec 01, 2011
I am never going to say that investing in stocks and bonds is out of vogue. With the right strategy you can still take your savings and increase it substantially investing in stocks. However if you are the type that never has it going for stocks and the stock market and you certainly have got some millions to spare you can take a good look at investing in startups.

To be sure investing in startups is riddled with the danger of losing your money but if you have a good grasp of how the industry works and invest right you could stand to get so much value for your investment.

As the year 2012 approaches more startups emerge that hope to solve one problem or the other and in the process make millions in profits. If you are going to invest in startups you will have to invest for the middle and long term. Most startups aren’t going to start making money until after a couple of years with the right team.

There are some positives going for tech startups in the coming years;

- The Increasing Internet Access: As more people get online in Nigeria more opportunities open up to serve various needs online. More undergorund internet cables are being laid than ever and should guarantee cheaper and quicker internet access in the coming years,

InvestmentNew Bill To Force Large Telcos (like Mtn, Airtel) To Be Listed On Nse by Papilo87(op): 1:56pm On Nov 24, 2011
A new bill is underway in the Federal House of Representatives to make large telecommunication firms like Globacom, MTN, Airtel to get listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

In line with an earlier request by the Central Bank Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to have big telecom firms listed on the stock market to boost its size and value the House of Reps has begun tinkering with the idea.

According to Herman Hembe, chairman of the 29-member Capital Markets Committee of the House of Representatives,
