Foreign Affairs › Mali Junta Arrests 11 Oppositions Calling For Civilian Rule by Paraman(op): 4:01pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
After rebel troops seized Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and Prime Minister Boubou Cisse in a dramatic escalation of a months-long crisis. – Neighbouring states in West Africa, along with France, the European Union and the African Union, condemned the sudden mutiny and warned against any unconstitutional change of power in the fragile country.
Eleven opponents of Mali’s ruling junta were arrested as they met in the capital after calling for the return of civilian rule in the West African nation, their coalition said Friday.
The military which seized power in 2020 had promised to organise elections and hand over power to civilians by the end of March this year but later postponed elections indefinitely.
Those detained include the heads of parties and political movements which signed a declaration in March calling for the handover of power to civilians, it said in a statement sent to AFP.
They were arrested late Thursday as they took part in an illegal meeting when political party activities are banned, a source in the legal investigation unit said.
They are due to appear before a prosecutor on Friday, a judicial source said.
Their arrest took place during a “private meeting” at the home of a coalition official, the grouping said.
It criticised what it said was yet another “violation of fundamental freedoms” and denounced “these arbitrary arrests”.
Signatories of the declaration dated March 31 had condemned the “legal and institutional void” after a deadline passed for the junta to hand over power.
They called for presidential elections to be called “as soon as possible”.
The colonels in Mali have kept a tight hold on power, suspending all party-political activities and muzzling opponents, journalists and human rights activists.
Mali has since 2012 been plunged into a political and security crisis fuelled by attacks from jihadist and other armed groups, as well as a separatist struggle in the north. https://punchng.com/mali-junta-arrests-11-oppositions-calling-for-civilian-rule/?utm_source=telegram&utm_medium=social

Namaster: .
ALSO the BDC operator, Shamsudeen Ahmed, is EXTREMELY dumb and EXCEPTIONALLY greedy. Dollar is #1,4600+ YET he wanted to buy a whole 1 Million Dollars at a rate of #1000/dollar.
That's short-changing the sellers to the tune of #400,000,000 (FOUR HUNDRED MILLION NAIRA).
Which legitimate businesspeople would WILLINGLY take a loss of #400M?
Greedy fool even borrowed money because he thought he was taking advantage of the sellers. The transaction happened in the second week of december 2023. Is the exchange rate up to 1400/$ on December 8 2023? |

Dam!! There's no reason for anybody to send such a huge amount into a BDC now, Tinubu has eventually narrowed the gap between the official and parallel price |

hisexcellency34: In the United Kingdom that colonised us, they are still spending coins today down to a penny. Are we wiser than them?
Yet we abandoned all our coins. Even our five naira banknote is hardly in circulation again.
Smh.... Nigerians didn't abandon coins, they became useless. There's nothing 25 Kobo, 50 Kobo, 1 naira or 5 naira can buy in present day Nigeria. 5 naira and 10 naira notes will soon become useless like the coins |

Imagine if the Chinese were the ones that colonized Nigerians Europeans didn't colonize Africa alone. Even China had to cede the control of certain areas during the 19th century to Europeans |

Konquest: Well that's pretty obvious now. Itsekiris in Delta State are much closer to the Atlantic ocean than the Urhobos extending right into their shared border areas with Ilajeland in Ondo State. Yes you're right. In delta state, it will likely pass through Itsekiri and Ijaw land. The south south and ijaws territories in particular will benefit more from this project than Yoruba land. |
Politics › Re: FG flags Off Construction Of Section 2 Of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway by Paraman: 7:17pm On Jun 18, 2024 |
Konquest: @Paraman, do you have a recent 2024 graphic represention of ALL the current routes the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will pass through? Kindly share it here if you do.
Second, when the construction reaches the Ogun/Ondo border then moving right into the Ilajeland coastal areas of Ondo State, is there a certainty that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will pass through Itsekiri communities on getting to Delta State and parts of Urhobo areas before finally moving into the Ijaw areas at Forcados and on into Bayelsa areas of Southern Ijaw?
Third, I saw Edo State on the list of the states the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would pass through but I still haven't figured what communities in Edo State would be covered by that highway.
The recent 2024 map of the entire route out to have been released into the public domain by now.
Thanks. If there are Urohobos and Itsekiris areas that share borders with the Atlantic ocean in Delta state, then the road will pass through their communities. The road will only pass through areas that are close to the Atlantic ocean. |

It starts from Folu town and will end at the Ogun border CC Sec5 |

It's starting point is at the Lekki deepsea port and it will end and end at the Lagos/Ogun border. Section one started from Victoria and will end at the the Lekki deepsea port |
Politics › Re: Remove This From Nigeria And See Nigeria Become Like China (Photo) by Paraman: 2:23pm On Jun 18, 2024 |
LocalStandard1: I will be brief.
One of the reasons for the very high underdevelopment in Nigeria and Africa at large is because of this factor...
When you look at Asia, when you look at Europe, even the middle East. Take a look at every continent and region in the world and you would notice Africa is the only place where the vast majority speak the language of their colonizers.
Frence, English, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, you name it! Africa is the only continent and Black people are the last race still favently, diligently and fanatically holding on to the language of their supremacist, imperialist, racist colonizers and enslavers, from the Westerners to the Arabs.
Africa has been under siege, Africa has been at war for millenniums and centuries, from the Arabs, the Europeans, Westerners. Africans and Black people are the only group and race of people actively fighting for supremacy and domination of every other races and cultures, even against themselves, for the control and benefit of all the others. The Europeans/Westerners, the Jewish, the Arabs, even as we are beginning to see now for the Asians.
If Nigeria, and by extension, the entirety of Africa and much of the African dominated Caribbean, will start by reverting to our own local languages, first changing what language we think in our minds with, what language we officiate with, what language we plan, scheme and gossip with, we will begin to effect changes to our minds and national planning as it becomes difficult for everyone else outside our own group to decipher and understand what we're doing and by extension sow seeds of discord and confusion. It will give us a sence of self preservation and self interest.
Already every African is largely and generally multilingual, a polyglot, so these changes is already very easy.
Nigeria should completely remove so-called "english" language as our main and official language, Nigeria most make official the three main Languages in Nigeria, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, with pidgin and Swahili as secondary languages.
English, French, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese and all these Western, Arab and non African languages MOST GO. Africa today is the second largest and biggest continent in the world. There are more English speakers today in a single African country than their are all of the British people, there are more French speakers today in a single African country than all the French in France and likewise Portuguese. A Northerner and African Muslim is more loyal to the Middle East and the Arabs than his own country and African people.
Africa and Africans have no self interests as our loyalties, interests and views and self pride and dignity has all been shared up by everyone that has enslaved and colonised us. That is why you're so interested in Palestine, Israel and Western well being, interests, ideology, survival, affairs than your own.
You lack any self preservation and self interest because you do not listen to your indegenous self speak. What of North America and South America? |

Ofodirinwa: is the road intended to connect humans, or connect swamps with ocean? Are these the humans that will be driving on the road? Don't roads lead to places where commercial activities are happening.
The map I'm even showing you makes it look as if some of the places this road crosses has solid land. It is a road across floodplains and mud.
After all, why aren't those cities themselves closer to the atlantic other than knowing their environment.?
But that coastal Niger delta is porous (hence this road will need hundreds of bridges). Believe it or not, those communities access or are reasonable close to the atlantic. because that region is a grouping of muddy uninhabited islands and flood plains
What this road MIGHT do is block those place's access to the atlantic. Because Nigeria builds lowe idiotic bridges that ships cannot traverse, so it will effectively make Lagos the only coastal city in Nigeria |
