Celebrities › Re: Iyabo Ojo Says She’s Done With Business In Nigeria, As Taxes/bills Knock Her Out by Parisfran(f): 5:40pm On Jun 02, 2018 |
RiyadhGoddess: This is not encouraging at all. I'm planning to come to Nigeria to invest come November 2018 and all this tax things I'm hearing about is really scaring me. I saw iyabo ojo's rants on tax. I remembered one woman who operates a fast food also complained bitterly. The comments I read online are so scaring. Federal govt tax, state tax, local govt tax, phcn, association, town council etc. Abeg how much be the profit wey person go they pay all this heavy tax? How would one pay salaries after tax deduction? What about the rent? All these are scaring and not an encouragement to small business owners.
Please I want to ask, what's the way out? My question is for those that have successfully managed a business for years. How have you been able to cope with all these charges abi tax? Can these charges be reduced or negotiated?
I don't want to waste money and then go back and start from the scratch again o. To dey wash bathroom and toilet no easy at all. If Nigeria is not opened for small business owners, it's better I remain where I am and look for a home base business to do or better still gather all my earnings and relocate to canada than to come to Nigeria and dash govt and her associates all my earnings. It's not as bad as people are making it seem. The problem most people have is they dont want to pay for services. In the US, even individuals pay accountants to help them with their taxes. The thing the tax authorities like here the most is actually an ignorant person, if you fall mugu ones, then that tax office will use you and meet target. Another mistake is actually bribing them, if you do, they become more ludicrous. |

DeRuggedProf: No one is recommending CAVERTON, CI,UBA,FMN,DF,ZENITH,FIDELITY,SUGAR, UPL, AIICO, FORTE etc etc etc again! It is well. If things change on Wednesday, PEOPLE WILL START DIGGING THEIR OLD POSTS, like one of us has been doing since yesterday.... No mind am. Those of us that foresaw the index kissing 38k this year are not even digging posts. The difficulty in investing is not in predicting price (most people can do that), it is WHEN will your price be met. |

Chibuking81: These three stock which of them will you go for short term, at least 3 months duration, and of what price?
1. Conoil 2 Flour Mill of Nigeria 3. Zenith Bank Off the top of my head, Zenith. But please don't take my word for it. I don't own a unit of any of them. If the market keeps being the way it is at the moment, i won't buy or sell anything in the next 3 months. |

Chibuking81: Go for Stanbic, study their q1 result, I think they are making a head way.
Or how did you view their result The result is good, but like Frankyj said, take off impairment write back. If that is taken off the profit for the period will become more humble. For me to take Q1 serious, I had to look at the prior year AFS. 2017 they impaired N25.6 billion which resulted in a 29% increase from its 2016 impairment figure. Now 2018 Q1, they have recovered N5.1 billion back. My concern is 2017 financials was signed off in February 2018. If the write back was valid, the auditor would have taken it into consideration. Except they say the loan suddenly became good in the month of March. If I use my formula of dividing last year's total profit by 4, I should expect a Q1 profit of about N12 billion, which is far lower than the 23 billion they are reporting. If this year wants to be super, I will start believing from Half year financials. |

Chibuking81: The following company has the following PE 1. CCNN = 9.61 PE 2. GTB = 7.18 PE 3. FMN = 7.29 PE 4. UACN = 27.67 PE 5.OKOMO OIL = 8.98 PE 6. STANBIC = 9.29 PE 7. FBNH = 8.82 PE 8. OANDO = 10.06 PE You missed out the big daddy: Nestle I don't look at PE in isolation. What is the price to book and dividend yield? What is the gross profit margin and what is the ROA? Another important bit for me is, what position does it command in its industry. After all said and done, if a bull comes to nse all good stocks will rise and during a bear era all will fall. Only outliers defy the will of the general market trend. Pls keep the recommendations coming, I need to read more financial statements to catch stocks like ccnn early. |

Chibuking81: I respect peoples view, since you choose to ignore their result based on personal reason, likewise I welcome their result based on personal reason too.
They are construction company, that most of their gain come through winning and carrying out contract, if last year fail to favour them due to economic down tone, and this year favour them due to economic bounce back, is that bad?.
Their 52 weeks low was not below #23, if I may ask, do you think with the improvement in their income, that they will soon visit their 52 weeks low or to head towards high? Or are you of opinion that their earning did not improve at all?
From my observation despite their administrative sharing of fund, their worse days are over, with gradually bouncing back of economic, and award of road contract.
Yes their 2017, PE was 8+, remember that they recorded loss in 2017 q1, but started growing from other quarter, their 2018, q1 is 1.29. If their growth continue, which there is high percentage sign that it will continue, their PE will likely come down to 5+, or 4+.
Most time I always stand as a lone man, in advertising a stock, while many will secretly be taking position. Let leave matter for Mathias, I just gave maximum of 90 days period which will cover the release of 2018 q2 result.
(Pls remember to bookmark this quote) If their growth continue and price remains the same. That's when the PE will reduce. I'm not afraid of being wrong though. I can't decipher the politics behind share price movement, but I can decipher the price movement that comes from an annual report. |

I look at most Q1 and I just laugh. If your Q1 is better than 1/4 of last year FS. I will mentally adjust for it. What kind of money are you making between Jan to March that you didn't see to make last year. It's only publishing companies I just look at their Q1 to see if the result for the period is crazy. |

Chibuking81: Your stock pick was OK, but their motor was already on a very high speed, when you recommended. Anyway that's good work.
Also help to recommend medium term pick, like 2 to 6 months duration, based on stocks performance, like as I have done for Jberger using their 2017/ 2018 performance, Even with or without their (OCI) Other comprehensive income, based on their current PAT and the previous year PAT.
By so doing, most of us that can use our computer can do comprehensive research without sentiment. Let set a goal, by recommending good stocks to buy, for week, and for months. I hope by so doing this our forum will serve it purpose. The sky is to big for a bird to fly, if we use our years of experience to recommend a good stock to this forum, other stock recommendation house will copy ours for recommendation. Truly we have our individuals occupation, but we are really the field workers in NSEM.
Many has fall victims of stock recommending house. There is nothing exciting in JBerger result. All I see is a strategic disclose of foreign exchange loss. Let us also observe that they refused to put a disclosure note on anything relating to foreign exchange movement both in the SCI and the OCI. 1 Gross profit fell year on year 2 Operating profit also fell year on year 3. 13 directors went home with over N500m 4. Most key management staff are not shareholders. The most profitable thing in JBERGER for me would be to become a staff not a shareholder. Staff cost is juicy. I don't like raining on any body's parade, but if it is 2017 FS that wants to make this stock fly, then I am waiting. It's PE is over 8. It's price to book is 1.2. Dividend yield is like 3%. Honestly, not an impressive result at the current price. If the stock price goes up from current price, then congratulations to the market for proving me wrong. I deliberately ignore Q1 result for personal reasons.

rebekah2011: The result of First Bank has reinforced my earlier stance that I must watch some companies with nice telescope. Q3 EPS was N1.25 and Final EPS was N1.21. Meaning that they made a loss in Q4. I will listen to their Conference call to know what they will say about the future. Impairment has come down from 226b in 2016 to 155b in 2017. I am yet to see appreciable recoveries. I will wait to see what their Q1 will look like. The EUGAZ are catching up with First Bank in terms of earnings. Which means they are losing customers to other banks. There is one interesting income head that the current CBN governor created for the Banks. ATM maintenance charge of N52.50 per month. First bank has been religious about deducting this every month. GTBank has refused to latch onto this income. I believe they understand the sentiments of their customers. No wonder they had increase in customers in 2017. They might not have made a loss in Q4. Most likely auditor and cbn clipped their wings |

Somepeople have some growing up to do.
The index is doing well, to those that don't know what to buy yet, just position your self in companies that did above 3% gain year on year and you will be fine.

mendes911: I am watching to see if there's any surprises behind that 3rd quarter result.
I hope not. I hope not too, but CBN might force them to surprise us. A lot of banks were made to take impairment of their popular NPLs. I was reading the disclosures of one Bank the other day and I was just smiling. Some loans apparently get bad almost immediately after disbursement. Bank managers should start being careful, free govt money era of laulau spending is over. |

Agbalowomeri: Where you see pe of 2? I doubt it It should be around that 4 too if we assume year end eps of 60kobo
However, I think the market has moved on past year end results and the dividend will only be a bonus IMO (I assume there will be a general bull throughout May).
Disclosure: one of the two I am targeting next week 9months was 70k, I'm expecting full year to be 80 - 90k which makes their PE around sub 3. Anyway, Fidelity screams undervalued to me at the moment, but I have a few units already and I don't want to add more to a stock I don't know what it's problem is. Bullish MAY Issa prayer. Q1 results should set the pace. |

Other banks are having P.E of 4 and above but Fidelity bank's own P.E. is about 2.
I want to buy more units but I dont know if I should wait for 2017 result to come out or not. I really think it's a N4 stock though. |

Ebukamath: so what do you want me to do? I think you have to set out how much you want to make first. 100% is ambitious but it can happen. Then look into companies you understand. Banks and fmcg companies are my babies, because I understand their business model. Pick the most familiar stock to you and try to read up a bit on it and ask a lot of questions here. I've gotten a lot of important information here that I didn't see anywhere else. Have a stop loss position, say if your 50k falls to 35k carry your bag and run. So you can live to fight again. Don't be in a hurry to open a trading account till you know what you want to buy, so as to prevent itching fingers. This is my own advice. A new set of millionaires and billionaires will emerge courtesy of this stock, unfortunately at the end of the day 99% or more of the shareholders will be poorer than they are right now.
