After Ekiti gubernatorial elections, I almost completely gave up on Nigeria because of the seemingly irredeemable vote buying that keeps raising its ugly head!

Why would anyone sell his/her vote for money or foodstuffs?

There are many explanations for this that I am not ready to delve into in this article now.

However, if poverty is the reason as easily suggested whenever this issue is raised, why only in Nigeria?
Do politicians buy votes elsewhere?
Outside Nigeria, do the electorate sell their votes for money? Is Nigeria the only country in the world with high poverty rate?

I am greatly disturbed by this development.

Vote buying implies that a known thief or a fraudulent person can present himself for election as long as he has the financial muscle to buy off the voters he knows that he would win! Where does that leave competence and credibility? Your guess is as good as mine.

If we really want to solve the corruption problem of Nigeria, then we should not take vote buying and the general monetisation of our electoral process for granted.

It's delusional to think that the people who caused the problem of Nigeria will be the ones to solve it. It won't happen!

Because they can afford the majority of us should not make us cheap for them to buy!

The solution you proffered isn't viable enough.

The question is why are people vying for post in Nigeria? Simple answer; money.

If the issue of vote buying will be solved, there should be serious downsizing of money gotten from politics or in politicking.

This does not look like vote buying. I can tell you how it looks like cos I've got my share just few minutes ago

In my unit I didn't see the party's agent. I only saw PDP, APC, SDP, APP and ADC agents

We can't still rule out vote buying. It is being done codedly .

Well, I can't compare it to Ilesha, ile-ife and Oshogbo but it's the forth biggest town in osun. You can't call a town that has NYSC camp, Federal Poly, two well known private universities and army Barack a village. Please, visit Ede and do a survey.

At about 12:01pm I cast my vote and left.

So far, everything is peaceful at my unit.

However, vote buying is inevitable. I could sense something of it. The elderly men and women can easily be manipulated to sell their vote.

APC Muslim/Muslim ticket has generated a lot of controversy nationwide because many seem the candidacy is not religiously balanced.
However, everyone seems mute on Christian/Christian PDP Governorship candidate ticket on Osun especially considering Osun indigenes are majorly Muslims.
PDP candidate in the Osun gubernatorial election is Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke and his running mate is Kola Adewusi both of whom are of Christian faith. Do not however be deceived by the name 'Nurudeen', Adeleke is indeed a Christian but flaunts Nurudeen as his first name. He was indeed born into a Muslim family. Tinubu likewise has a Christian wife.
Personally, I don't issues with the the faiths of contesting candidates as far as they are eligible and competent, but why is everyone particularly silent on this, yet going overboard over the choice of Shettima as Mr Tinubu's running mate?

Where did you get that sense that osun is majorly Muslims? Who did census on religion that concluded osun is Muslim majority?
