During the time of the apostles, we find that the leaders in the early church reasoned that there is need for accountability, they had to appoint certain men that will scrutinize the activities of the members and also see to it that the purse is well maintained. I'♍ sure if there was external auditors back in those days, they will defiantly employ them.

So OP, there is absolutely nothing wrong in seeking the help of external auditors to help straighten the church account. Everybody is accountable to God and likewise the money he has given us too should be accounted for. If any leader/pastor/overseer kick against the church account been audited, then I think the members should ask God for mercy on behave of that leader.

In my church, every kobo is accounted for, by doing this, everybody feels he/she belongs to the church.
