Well, quality education does not come cheap. Procreate to the number of children you can afford.

Education / Corruption And Fraud : ASUU - LASU Members Pull Out Funds From Union by Passion2009: 1:54pm On Jan 14, 2019
SUSPENSION OF REMITTANCE OF CHECK-OFF DUES TO ASUU-LASU

The Governing Council of the Lagos State University on the 7th of September, 2017 dismissed Dr. Isaac Oyewunmi (erstwhile Chairman of ASUU-LASU) for acts of misconduct bordering on extortion of money from students; and Dr. Adebowale Adeyemi-Suenu (erstwhile Vice-Chairman of ASUU-LASU) for acts of misconduct bordering on manipulation of students results. By virtue of their dismissal, they ceased to be members of ASUU-LASU from the 7th of September, 2017.

The Management is in receipt of a petition signed by a number of members of ASUU-LASU which alleged that Dr. Isaac Oyewunmi is still part of those presently operating the Bank Account of ASUU-LASU despite being a staff of another Institution. Further, that both Dr. Oyewunmi and Dr. Adeyemi-Suenu have illegally been collecting monthly allowance of N50,000 (Fifty Thousand Naira) each from the general monthly deductions of members of ASUU-LASU. The petitioners further alleged that the Management is acting in concert with the Executive of ASUU-LASU to defraud members of ASUU-LASU.

The summary of the response of the Secretary ASUU-LASU is that the above issues concern the internal workings of the Union and relates to the interpretation of the Union’s Constitution and Code of Practice. The relevant financial Institutions have, however, confirmed that Dr. Oyewunmi as at 9th January 2019 is a signatory to the Bank Accounts of ASUU-LASU.

The continued management and operation of ASUU-LASU Bank Accounts by Dr. Issac Oyewunmi borders on criminal conspiracy, fraud and corruption. The Management cannot allow the mechanisms of the University to be used to aid and abet fraud and corruption.

In the circumstance, the Vice-Chancellor in the exercise of his supervisory and general responsibility to Council to maintain good order in the University has directed the immediate suspension of remittance of check-off dues of members of ASUU-LASU to ASUU-LASU Bank Accounts pending when the management and operation of the account(s) are properly regularized.

THE IMPRISONMENT OF RICHARD AKINDELE : LESSONS FOR ASUU - LASU

For years, the problem of sexual harassment of female students by their lecturers has proven to be a national issue. All over the world, academics are expected to play the role of parents and mentors in the lives of their students. In Nigeria, this is largely not the reality. On Tuesday, 18th of December, 2018; millions of Nigerians were agog over the news of the imprisonment of Professor Richard Akindele - an erstwhile Lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University; who was caught earlier in the year in the devilish act of forcefully requesting for sex in return for grades. As encouraging as the news was to me, the thoughts of events at my alma mata - the Lagos State University forced me into a state of reflection.

Throughout my years as a LASU student, I saw myself in a university with promising students and a school that is blessed with some of the best faculty members you can find anywhere in the world. Just like in most Nigerian universities, we also have some Lecturers who have chosen to sexually exploit innocent female students in LASU. During my undergraduate years, many female students who were victims of sexual harassment suffered in silence as there was nearly no one to amplify their voices. Nevertheless, since the inception of the current university administration, there have been concrete efforts geared toward the extermination of sexual harassment in the university. In fact, in recent months, some randy Lecturers were dismissed after facing a disciplinary panel. Sadly, the leaders of ASUU - LASU see nothing encouraging in these developments. Rather, they will prefer to vilify the university administration for daring to stem the misconduct of its erring members. There are several examples of these in the recent past.

It is very much pertinent to recall that in October, 2018, three erstwhile LASU lecturers(Drs: Odubunmi, Gbeleyi and Ogunwande) were dismissed for molesting three innocent female students of the university. ASUU - LASU exco to this day has maintained a culpable silence since their dismissal. Not even the criminal act of sedation and rape of female students by Dr. Gbeleyi could ignite a word of condemnation from the executive of ASUU - LASU.

In reality, to hope that ASUU - LASU exco support the crusade against sexual harassment in LASU means expecting too much from them and is akin to expecting a Gazelle to support the dominance of a Lion in the Jungle. The Gazelle and the Lion are two opposing sides - one preys on the other for survival. The same can be said of ASUU - LASU exco and morality. Most of the Lecturers who have now grown a reputation for harassing female students in LASU are staunch ASUU - LASU members. Dr. Afisi and Oyekan are to this day renowned for their penchant for sexually exploiting female students in the Faculty of Arts. In the Faculty of Social Sciences - where I graduated from, Dr. Johnson Ayodele Oluwole in my final days at the university was on the verge of being dismissed after his escapade with an innocent female student in a hotel room was botched. These individuals are the leaders of ASUU in LASU. Consequently, awaiting ASUU - LASU exco to support the crusade against sexual harassment in LASU is not in tandem with reality. After all, the Gazelle can never truly support the dominance of the Lion in the Jungle?

Despite the presence of quite a number of Richard Akindeles masquerading as academics in LASU, the good eggs in the system still far outnumber the bad ones. Nevertheless, the conspiracy of silence among the good ones and their failure to speak out and stand up for innocent students is the major reason why our campuses remain a safe haven for these sexual predators. In the course of my conversation with one of my former teachers in LASU, he informed me that: "Majority of the academics in LASU truly wish to speak out but they are scared of being attacked by individuals who run the union like a secret cult".

This is not enough reason to keep mum in the face of the destruction of innocent lives. Academics in LASU, other members of staff; as well as students and alumni members owe posterity the duty of braving the odds and ensuring that the current crop of students - alongside those who will come after them will study in an environment free of harassments and intimidation. By standing up for truth and justice, we will make our university home to all. The administration in LASU should remain bold to follow the example at OAU. It is not enough to dismiss these fraudulent misfits. Criminal sanction must follow. The Vice Chancellor as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria should know better.

LASU, 16 OTHERS EMERGE AS WORLD BANK AFRICA CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE.

The Lagos State University (LASU) has emerged as the only state university amongst sixteen other Nigerian universities selected by World Bank as Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative Education.

Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, made this known to the public at the maiden Long Service Award for the university’s Staff (teaching and non-teaching) who had served the university for 20 years and above.

He stated that subsequent editions of the Long Service Award will aim at celebrating and appreciating staff of the university who had served 20 years and below.

543 Staff of the University were rewarded for their services and unwavering support to the University at the event.

In his remarks, Fagbohun stated that the Africa Centre of Excellence (ACE) three project is targeted at supporting more policy harmonisation initiatives in higher education across the African region.

He said that LASU would get a minimum of $7 million as a centre for the project, which is renewable after four years following impressive output and performance.

“I will start my remark on a high note. I am proud to announce to you that LASU is now an Africa Centre of Excellence

“We were chosen from about 154 universities that applied for the centre, and after several rounds of assessments and screenings, we were selected as the only state university in the round.

“We are going to be attracting foreign students and foreign faculties; so, we cannot afford to go on strike or allow any crisis. It is not about me, it is about all of us, as LASU will become what we all make it to become,” he said.

Fagbohun urged the staff to collaborate with the university management in strategically managing the institution and sustaining it when the centre of excellence commences.

According to him, the staff members are being celebrated and appreciated for their investment into the LASU project, with the hope that they would be motivated to do more.

Also speaking, Chairman, Governing Council, LASU, Prof. Adebayo Ninalowo, noted that the happenings in LASU within the past three years were different from what it used to be, “as happiness is now the order of the day.”

Ninalowo said the award was geared towards celebrating hard work and motivating the staff to be more productive.

Other 16 universities selected by World Bank as a Centre of Excellence include:

ACE in ICT Driven Knowledge Park, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

The 12 countries participating in the ACE impact project includes Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal , Niger, Djibouti, Guinea, Togo and Gambia.

Africa Centres of Excellence for Development Impact (ACE Impact), also known as ACE 3, resulted from the gains and successes recorded with ACE-1 and 2.

ACE-3 aims to work better across sectors, with more industry collaboration.

It aims to simplify flow of funds and support more policy harmonization initiatives in higher education across the region

According to World Bank, the broad objective of ACE Impact is to increase quantity, quality and development of relevant postgraduate education in selected universities through regional specialisation.

Education / *ASUU - LASU Exco And Their Purposeful Fake News by Passion2009: 7:43pm On Oct 25, 2018
*ASUU -LASU EXCO AND THEIR PURPOSEFUL FAKE NEWS*

Just as cancer destroys the critical cells of the body, it is obvious that a few individuals in ASUU - LASU are out to destroy the pristine of Lagos State University. I just read another piece written and signed by one Mr. Tony Dansu, the General Secretary of ASUU - LASU and Oyekan Adeolu, the Assistant General Secretary of ASUU - LASU.

For those of us who work at Alausa, the issue of LASU and the proclivity of ASUU - LASU exco to write and inundate the public with baseless and false information has proven to be an issue of great concern. When it comes to the administration of LASU, ASUU - LASU executive has grown a tendency to make a mountain out of a molehill. At the slightest challenge at the Lagos State University, this union leaders in ASUU flood the pages of newspapers and offices at Alausa with amplified reports on minor and mostly non-existent issues.

In the light of this proliferation of needless letters and newspaper publications, it is evident that ASUU - LASU Exco has a hidden agenda and their objective transcends any altruistic mission they claim to represent.

Despite the array of optimism and accolades that have greeted the resurgence of LASU in the past three years, ASUU - LASU exco has stubbornly refused to see anything good about the university administration. Instead of joining hands with other stakeholders in LASU to rebrand the Lagos State University and set it on course for greatness, ASUU - LASU exco has chosen to proliferate fake news and other concoctions all in a bid to whip up sentiments and advance a failed ulterior agenda.

In their most recent attempt to misinform the general public through a publication on cable news blog that a colleague at Alausa drew my attention to, ASUU - LASU exco made a spurious allegation that bordered around purported admission racketeering by unnamed officials of LASU.

ASUU - LASU made a mockery of itself when it failed to name these individuals that are involved in their alleged admission racketeering. If ASUU - LASU are indeed confident of their claims, they should do justice to truth and fairness by naming those individuals involved in their imaginary sham or desist from misinforming the public for their own selfish agenda. It is disheartening and unfortunate that some individuals who earn their source of livelihood from LASU can be so bent on plunging the university into a state of tension all in a bid to achieve certain selfish gains. LASU provides meal tickets for these individuals in ASUU - LASU exco and they are inviting their own wind of self-destruction if they continue to scheme against the peace and advancement of the university. Admission racketeering is unacceptable and I will never be a party to it. Nevertheless, the challenge of admission scam exists in virtually all Nigerian universities but for ASUU - LASU exco to have narrowed it down to the "highest offices" in LASU without substantiating it with any evidence smirks of mischief and a sinister agenda.

It is equally sad and quite revealing that ASUU - LASU exco suddenly lost its voice when three of its members were recently dismissed for sexually harassing innocent LASU female students. Not even the criminal act of sedation and rape of female students by Dr. Gbeleyi could ignite a word of condemnation from the duo of Tony Dansu and Adeolu Oyekan - the individuals that commandeer the affairs of ASUU - LASU. It is now crystal clear that ASUU - LASU exco letter headed papers, and press releases suspiciously go on vacations when students are sexually harassed by ASUU - LASU stalwarts.

ASUU - LASU exco have chosen to ignore front-burner issues such as the sexual harassment of innocent female students by even the inner circle members of ASUU - LASU like Dr. Johnson Oluwole Ayodele who was in the news for attempting to rape a female student in a hotel room in Lagos. ASUU - LASU turned deaf ears and blind eyes to all these lives threatening atrocities and have instead obsessed and buried themselves in the act of concocting stories, the proliferation of cheap blackmail, and fake news.

The antics, mischief, and misdeeds of some ASUU branches are now becoming a danger to our universities as evident in what is unraveling at the Federal University of Oye Ekiti in Ekiti State. Government at all levels and well-meaning Nigerians must rise to put these evil-minded men in their rightful places. We must be willing to speak out and we must do so bravely!

ASUU are the ones supporting the bad lecturers in LASU and beyond and that's because most of these bad Lecturers are ASUU leaders themselves. The Secretary of ASUU - LASU has been caught many times in the act of forcefully "smotching" female students by students in his office. Another thing is that female students are always scared to speak out and that's a major problem in solving the entire problem.

For merely sacking these criminals, ASUU - LASU Exco has been blackmailing the LASU VC with all sort of things like press statements where they dish out lies to the public. The good thing is that : 99% of staff and students are behind the man and his reforms. More of the bad eggs will soon be flushed out.

Education / LASU Students React To Sack Of Lecturers Over Sex Scandal by Passion2009: 4:50pm On Oct 10, 2018
*LASU'S PERSISTENCE ON REFORMS AND THE CHALLENGE IN FRONT OF US*

With wild jubilation, I reacted to the news of the dismissal of three randy LASU lecturers for sexually harassing our female students on campus. The three Lecturers : Dr. Sunkanmi Odubunmi, Dr. Isiaka Ogunwande, and Dr. Emmanuel Gbeleyi were all shown the exit door following proven allegations of sexual harassment. The most despicable and heinous of them all is Dr. Emmanuel Gbeleyi who was a Lecturer at the Department of Anatomy. Dr. Gbeleyi injected female students, sedated them in the laboratory before having sexual intercourse with them. While transiting to medical school, a senior colleague in Physiology who was then in her penultimate year once warned me about the antics of Dr. Gbeleyi. I initially doubted the veracity of her claims as they appeared so evil but she was eventually proven right. I strongly believe that all well-meaning Nigerians must call for the arrest and prosecution of Dr. Gbeleyi. What he did is criminal, devilish and totally unacceptable.

In the midst of all these, I must salute the courage and resoluteness of Professor Lanre Fagbohun, SAN, the Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University. I've watched him(Prof. Fagbohun) speak so many times and each time I come in contact with him or even watch him from afar - I see a hardboiled man with unwavering integrity and love for discipline and the rule of law.

On the other hand, it is so interesting and quite revealing that since the dismissal of these three Lecturers, not even a whisper of words of condemnation have emanated from ASUU - LASU Exco. This is the same group of few individuals who always inundate the media with concocted stories whenever they want to blackmail the LASU VC to stop prosecuting the bad eggs in LASU like Dr. Gbeleyi. ASUU - LASU Exco is the only union 'leaders' in LASU that have never supported the clear and well-meaning reforms of the current administration in LASU. The reasons for this are not farfetched. Virtually all those leading the pack for ASUU - LASU Exco has all been enmeshed in the quagmire of sexual harassment and other forms of illegality. Dr. Johnson Oluwole Ayodele, a Lecturer at the Department of Sociology and an ASUU - LASU stalwart was recently caught trying to rape a female student in a hotel room in Lagos. Dr. Afisi and Dr. Oyekan - who is the Assistant General Secretary of ASUU - LASU are both renowned for their addicted stance on sex for grades in the faculty of arts. If these individuals with soiled hands and dirty legs are the ones leading ASUU - LASU Executive, then how do we expect them to condemn the sack of their accomplices or support the reforms of the current administration in LASU? We cannot expect harmful ants to applaud the good works of insecticides.

There is indeed more work to do in LASU and Nigeria at large. There are still a handful of other bad eggs in the system who have chosen to molest our female students and exploit our male colleagues. All over Nigeria, they are dotted across our laboratories, faculties, and offices. To eradicate this ugly occurrence, all students in LASU must begin to speak out so that we can jointly expose the bad eggs and flush them out of our beloved LASU. LASUITES must equally be fearless in reporting illegalities. We also know that corruption will want to stage a fightback through cheap blackmail and self-serving machinations. This is why all LASUITES, Alumni members, Staff, and well-meaning Nigerians must stand by the current administration's reforms in LASU.
The struggle to change the Nigerian narrative must start from our universities.

We are LASU, We are truly Proud!

If this is true, then this is ridiculous.

These are members of ASUU who are threatening to go on strike if their salaries are not reviewed upwards

I am particularly appalled that a lecturer would go to the extent of sedating his students so that he could have his way with them.
Sincerely, sacking isn't enough, they should be tried and reported to their professional bodies so that their practicing license can be suspended.

ASUU will soon start crying on the pages of newspapers accusing LASU VC of being too tough. These things happen because ASUU shields the corrupt ones among them. Imagine a Lecturer sedating a student and ASUU said they should not sack him? Such Lecturer should be jailed!

I pray the VC continues to be brave in his reforms in the midst of cheap blackmail.

Well deserved . This current LASU VC does not tolerate nonsense or any form of illegality. That's why some people in ASUU claim not to like him but 99.999% of LASU Staff, Students and Alumni are with him on this. Ride on Professor Lanre Fagbohun,SAN. BEST VC EVER! We are solidly behind you sir.

May God bless and protect him.

The university should investigate them and have them sacked especially the randy ones. The lecturers in management sciences shouldn't be spared.

There is a tsunami going on in LASU - many of these randy and corrupt Lecturers will all be sacked regardless of the blackmail from a few ASUU - LASU exco.

It didn't start today..
As an Alumni of LASU, I have my own share of ugly tale to tell..

In 1997 as a 200 Level Student taking elective courses in Sociology, we also had it rough with lecturers like Dr. WOLE ATERE and Assistant Lecturer Mr. ANDY.

Those randy men must touch you the minute you enter their office either for signing of Course Form/Registration

No one told me before I dropped elective course in the department despite the fact that it was very easy to score A in the course.

Same with Mr. OKE in Philosophy.. That one can collect bribe for the entire continent and happily, he was sacked.

In my English Department, the worst was Professor OLUWOLE ADEJARE. He would openly relish and enjoy your failure .

I remember ex students who were held back simply because of courses taught by the randy Prof ADEJARE... Thankfully, he too was sacked in 1999 and English Department became a better place. We all celebrated his exit and shame!

I hope LASU investigates these allegations without bias and bring sexual predators disguised as lecturers to justice to save our daughters!

All of those found guilty will all be sacked. The current VC - Professor Fagbohun don't take shit. He is a tough disciplinarian. Some of them are blackmailing him with protests and media briefings but the majority of the students and staff are behind him.

....LASU!!

LASU is getting better now. The current VC - Pof. Fagbohun is really trying. He is flushing out those bad eggs - that's why a few of these ASUU guys who are mostly corrupt are against him.
