Jobs/Vacancies / Re: How Have You Been Coping After NYSC With Or Without A Job? by Passion2009: 8:00pm On Feb 15, 2019
rentAcock:
After NYSC I couldn't get a job right away and I was depressed and suicidal. I once overdosed on aspirin only to be resuscitated at the hospital. I thought about suing the hospital for bringing me back to life against my will and wishes but my lawyer advised me to let go since the case will be tossed out anyway. I decided to use my second chance to make the most of myself and one day give a testimony. I searched nairaland for jobs and applied to many, I eventually got a job at Jumia Travels where I helped with hotel reservations. They paid me 80k a month, not bad. Just 3 months into the job, my female manager and colleagues were hitting on me. They would drool over me and flirt with me. I didn't mind it until my manger who's a married woman with 2 kids invited me over to her house. I refused and she set me up. I ended up losing my job.

I later got another job at a travel agency, helped with flight reservations. Pay was 85k a month. Needless to say that my female co-workers were crushing on me, the other guys were jealous and it resulted in a serious physical altercation between me and another male co-worker. We were both let go.

I scoured nairaland and came across an online freelancer who taught me graphic design and article proofreading, I started earning dollars from fiverr, upwork and many freelancing sites. Money wasn't bad, I was averaging $200 a week. I thought I had made it in life. I worked at my own schedule.

But later I felt like the money wasn't enough, I wanted to buy a new car and a new apartment. I met another friend of mine, Charles, who was a model. Dude was fit with deltoid, pectoralis and back muscles popping. He told me he works out 5 days a week and makes 2 million naira a month. I was shocked. It turned out that Charles was a gigolo, he serviced rich women as well as models on the side. I was jealous, I mean I'm better looking than this guy and women are obsessed with me so why wasn't I using these attributes to my own advantage? I started working out, started rentacock.com, did some grassroot advertising and with word-of-mouth I started getting clients. I ended up making1.5 mil in my first month, and today I easily pull 10 times that.

Moral of the story, stop staying home languishing away and begging for jobs, look around you and provide a service people need. Good luck.

Very interesting. My writing skill is quite impressive. Please, how can I get links(network) to work as a freelance writer?

Thank you.

Davido's daughter does not attend this school and it is very unlikely that she will ever attend such school. I can confirm to you that his first daughter attends American International School, Lagos. If you follow his Instagram stories, you would have confirmed this.

Those people just have a very poor mindset, poor man mentality 11M naira is like #1000 or even #100 to some people. It removes little or nothing from them. Sending your child here will almost guarantee him/her a successful life or career coz only the elite and extremely wealthy can afford to send their kids here. Your child will be well connected before he graduates. Even you as a parent will be well connected too. Building strong networks like this will help you later in life. That's a fact. Abi na for public school wey na agbero children full there you wan see better person wey go help your life?

Don't mind them. I just laugh at such comments. People who send their kids to these schools are not fools. Education goes far beyond writing waec/jamb. Education is also about exposure. I've come across students that attend schools like American International School, Lekki British School, Grange School, Greensprings and the likes and I can boldly tell you that some of the students in these schools are more intelligent and exposed than many university undergraduates.

They care less about WAEC or Jamb - 99% of them don't even plan to acquire university education in Nigeria.

Their parents are training them to take over(or even establish) multi-billion naira investments. They are not training them to be underdogs who will settle for an average lifestyle.

The most important of it all is even the network of friends these kids enjoy. AISL and Grange are a circle. It's a circle of the wealthy class who wants their children to sustain what they've built and achieve much more.

Ole ni e. You be thief thief. 11 million naira for secondary school pikin school fee. How much dem dey pay for Havard University?

Talk based on facts. The parents of the over 750 students that take their children to the school are not fools - they know what they want and what they are paying for. And there are many secondary schools in the U.S that are more expensive than this.

Google Forman High School in the United States. They pay over 62,000 dollars as tuition fee per year. That is almost times two of what AISL charge.

Be informed. American private high schools pay more than this. Most Nigerians abroad just choose to.send their kids to public schools in the U.S

The American elites also have schools that are way more expensive than the one on this Nairaland thread.

Still expensive. The whites over there, do they pay this much? You have family and friends outside Nigeria, ask them and come back with an answer.

Check that link. The least most expensive school there is 43,000 dollars. Most Nigerians abroad send their kids to government-owned high schools as the standards as high over there. But if you wanna enroll your kids at top high schools - you will pay far more than what is being charged at American International School, Lagos.

Don't mind them. The whites know that blacks like hype so they help them a lot.

For instance, the Chinese comes to Nigeria, buys cashew nuts, exports them, does little or nothing to prepare and repackages it to Nigerians. Gbam! The hype for oyibo things go start.

PS: Dangote didn't go to these type of schools, neither did Otedola, Adenuga et al.

These schools did not exist during their time but they enrolled their kids there. Check the profile of Otedola and Dangote's children, they all attended secondary schools like this. Otedola's daughters specifically attended Grange Schools, Ikeja. Google out their fees.

You will pay a workforce of 80% expatriates 30,000naira?

Read about their staff below.

No staff(including gate man) earns below 100k at AISL - most of their teachers earn far above 300k naira per month after conversion from dollars. This is a fact I know.

Never. No teacher in such schools takes home anything below 100k naira per month. Most of their(AISL) staff are expatriates - and they are paid in dollars.

Davidos daughter from Sophia momodu (Imade) I think attends this particular school.

Yes. Davido's first daughter(Imade Adeleke) schools there - American International School, Lagos. Likewise Tiwa Savage's son - Jam Jam.

Apart from celebs, there are thousands of Nigerians that can easily afford such luxurious school. The school presently has over 750 students in Lagos alone.

As expensive as this particular school is, if you don't put in for admission in time - you won't be able to secure any space for your child especially at secondary school level.

Lol. What of their acceptance fee that costs 5milion naira?

Anyway, families who put their children in these schools live in mansions - so a house that worths 11million naira will most likely mean little to them.

They have over 760 students according to their website : www.aislagos.org

There are many private high(secondary) schools in the United States that are more expensive than this. (You can check Google). I think it's a matter of choice and affordability. There are families who don't want their kids to travel abroad in their formative years but they want them to get the "most international" education as possible in Nigeria. American International School, Lagos(and I think they have another branch in Abuja) is the only AUTHENTIC international school in Nigeria that is largely run by expatriates. More than 80% of their staff are from countries outside Nigeria and there are people who are willing to cough out anything for such world-class diversity.

If there is one thing I've learned about these schools, it's that there are thousands of legitimately wealthy Nigerians. If you visit schools like AISL, Lekki British School, Grange School, BIS, Loyola Jesuit, Greensprings School and 'other highbrow' schools in Lagos and Abuja, you will realize there are several successful Nigerians(who have never been in government but are doing very well in their fields) that can afford this education for their children.

If you can afford it, then give it a shot. Your kids deserve the best...

United in our diversity, our students and their families represent 58 different nationalities, and a variety of cultures. Not only do our students learn from these different perspectives, but they establish friendships that span the globe and will last a lifetime. Please see our information for prospective families.

Our teachers are U.S. certified or equivalent. Like our students, AISL's teachers and overseas faculty are an international group! 53% are from the United States; 19% Nigeria; 10% Canada; 5% United Kingdom; 2% South Africa; and 11% France, India, Lebanon, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Spain, Venezuela and Zambia.

AISL is an excellent school with an outstanding academic record, and finding an empty chair in our classrooms can be difficult at times.

Break down of the fees from dollar to naira

Application form $701 = 254,000naira

Acceptance fee - $13,988 = 5 million naira

Kindergarten school annual tuition fee- $17,638 = 6.3 million naira

Senior Secondary School annual tuition fee - $31,228 = 11.3 million naira per year.

I've been to Loyola Jesuit and I've been to Grange. Grange is impressive, Loyola is way more impressive, very beautiful school. I'd say do it. People shuttle weekly between cities so travel shouldn't be a problem.

Not sure how much discipline there is at AIS, BIS or Lekki British but if I had to make a choice going strictly by the "international" education you seek, I would choose AIS because it is really the only AUTHENTIC expatriate owned and run school in Lagos. Students come from everywhere and teachers are largely expatriate unlike the other three schools. That being said, things are not the way they used to be. The world is going mad so you might want to include discipline/moral principles in choosing a school.

Second choice will be grange. From my knowledge (outdated), they outperform other British curriculum schools in Lagos in the iGCSE exams and admission is mildly competitive.

Thank you so much. What about Greensprings, Anthony? Any contact with them? Their reviews appear impressive too.

Education / Grange School, BIS, Lekki British School or AISL? by Passion2009: 9:34am On Feb 06, 2019
Hello, nairalanders. I want to enroll a child in a top secondary school in Lagos that offers British curriculum - due to IGCSE, TOEFL and S.A.T exams for university education in the United States or U.K.

The fee is not an issue but I really want where the child will get value for money. I would have loved to go for Loyola Jesuit College in Abuja but the distance and admission process of Loyola is not flexible enough.

I've visited Grange Secondary School at Ikeja and they are quite impressive.

Lekki British School is also very impressive likewise British International School and American International School, Lagos.

Another option to somewhat consider is Greensprings School in Anthony - their records are impressive.

Is there anyone familiar with these schools? Any deal breaker or edge?

(1). Grange Secondary School, Ikeja.

(2). Lekki British School, Lekki Phase 1

(3). British International School, Lagos.

(4). American International School, Lagos.

(5). Greensprings School, Anthony, Lagos.

Any reviews?

Thank you

It is impossible for the Vice President to use road for all his numerous travels. He sometimes visits 3-4 states per day and air travel is the best way to achieve these targets amidst tight schedule. Even Presidents and top officials all over the world use jets/helicopters due to time and tight schedule.
