The Rivers State Government has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop de-marketing the state by labeling it unsafe. It said residents should resist the tag of violence placed on them by enemies of the people for political gains, as the state was safe for everyone. In a statement made available to THISDAY yesterday, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Emma Okah, who gave the warning following recent claim by APC that Rivers State was unsafe, said the people are peaceful and love one another. He said: “Since 2015, our people have been working together with the government to improve upon their living standards. “If the state was not safe, night life would have died, contractors would not be able to execute projects, national and international conferences would not hold in the state, investment inflow would not increase, IGR would decline, those who are branding the state as unsafe would not be able to visit and move about and life would be sour and brutish in the state,” Okah said. While noting that the successes of the Nyesom Ezenwo Wike administration have become a burden for APC, he said it was therefore shameful for some misguided APC members in the state to take it upon themselves to demarket the state by branding it as unsafe and promoting hostility against the government and people of the state to achieve narrow and dubious ends. “I believe only God gives power to His chosen one and no matter how hard the APC tries in the state to discredit the achievements of Governor Wike, the prayers of the churches and the people will bring them to their knees,” he said. On the purported attempted attack on the Tonye Cole campaign train in old Bakana, Okah said “It is satanic that the APC will hire thugs to shoot at and wound innocent people holding a PDP meeting in Ikwerre Local Government Area and turn around a few days later to stage manage an attempted attack on one of its own as a way of diverting attention and escaping public condemnation. Such narratives no longer impress anybody.”Since the APC controls the police and security agencies, how come they have not been able to arrest and prosecute any PDP member on account of any alleged violent crime against the APC,” Okah queried, urging PDP faithful to remain law abiding and steadfast and deny APC of the provocation they plan against the PDP.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has alleged that the APC-Federal Government has concluded plans to plant 800 guns in the state, with the objective of destabilizing Rivers State. Special Assistant on Electronic Media to the Governor, Simeon Nwakaudu, quoted Governor Wike as saying that, “The APC Federal Government resolved to implement the plot during her last security meeting.” He stated that the intelligence came from credible sources that were privy to the ugly plot against Rivers State. The governor called on the international community to take note of the alleged illegal action of the APC Federal Government, which he said was aimed at creating crisis in the state. He expressed regret that the APC Federal Government has continued to work deliberately to compromise the security of Rivers State. Wike, however, urged the people of the state to remain calm and vigilant, adding “that the evil machinations of the APC Federal Government will not distract the state from delivering on her constitutional responsibilities to Rivers people.”

Segun Sowunmi, spokesman of the Atiku Campaign Organisation, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will “make it impossible” for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig the 2019 elections. He said Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP, will defeat President Muhammadu Buhari by a “wide margin”. Sowunmi said this on Monday in Abuja at the launch of a book entitled ‘The man Atiku Abubakar, a square peg in square hole: 100 reasons to vote’. The spokesman said Abubakar would hire competent people to achieve his plans for the country if elected president. “They say they will rig in 2019 but I tell them it is only when we don’t beat them (by) a wide margin,” Sowunmi said. “We will beat them (by) a wide margin and make it impossible for them to rig in 2019.” Also speaking at the event, Kola Ologbodiyan, spokesman of the PDP, said the party is open for a peace accord with all the contenders. “We will support peace accord between major political parties and between marjor contenders. The Peoples Democratic Party is open to that because we are a party of peace,” he said. “We are a democratic party, who believe in a tenets of democracy, rule of law, justice, freedom, these are what make us a democratic party. “If there is any group or a group of nations that are canvassing that we should allow peace to reign during the election, surely the PDP will abide by that.” TheCable

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State said he has being able to pay salaries as at when due since he left the All Progressives Congress and detached himself from godfathers. Ortom who defected from APC to PDP in July said he is now a free man, no longer under the dictate of godfathers in Benue. According to Sahara Reporters, the governor made this know during the swearing-in ceremony of nine new commissioners who replaced those sacked in August. “There is no godfatherism again in Benue under my watch. That is why you can see that since I detached myself from godfather, even salary I have been able to pay as at when due. I’m seeking for other ways in offsetting the remaining arrears of salaries. “Since I left APC, I have been paying salaries. In APC, godfathers will not allow me but now I’m a free man,” he said.

Media aide of President Muhammedu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie has described Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the largest employer of ghost workers. Her submission might not be unconnected to the claims by Atiku supporters on social media that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is the largest employer of labour in Nigeria with 100,000 workers. Onochie made this accusation on her twitter page stating that Atiku claims workers he does not have. Check out Lauretta Onochie’s tweet: Lauretta Onochie ✔@LAURESTAR 100,000 WORKERS INDEED! CLEARLY, HE IS THE LARGEST PRIVATE SECTOR EMPLOYER OF GHOST WORKERS SEEING HE CLAIMS WORKERS HE DOES NOT HAVE. tolu ogunlesi ✔@TOLUOGUNLESI DANGOTE GROUP HAS UNDER 40,000 WORKERS. Human rights activist and senator representing Kaduna Central zone, Shehu Sani, has said President Muhammad Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have lost the integrity that could make them victorious in next year’s general elections. Sani, however, warned the ruling party against any attempt to subvert the wishes of Nigerians during the elections to avoid plunging the country into crisis. Besides, he also directed his supporters and all the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) stalwarts in Kaduna State to remove all his portraits carrying the images of Buhari from major roads and streets within his constituency, adding: “I am so happy with myself. Leaving the APC is like leaving the Boko Haram territory. The difference between Boko Haram and APC is that in Boko Haram, we have Abubakar Shekau and in APC, there are so many of them.” The senator, who recently dumped the ruling party to join the PRP, following his inability to secure APC’s return ticket during the last primary elections, blamed the “dwindling” integrity image of Buhari for the various woes hunting the country. “First of all, anybody who says things are working right is only deceiving him/herself or trying to suppress the truth that cannot be suppressed. “There is no doubt that there are some achievements, in terms of completion of projects inherited and in the war against insurgency, but you can see for yourself that this country is more divided than before on ethno-religious lines and there is more nepotism in all ramifications. “Also, Nigerians don’t see the present leadership in the country as a unifying figure. Rather, they see it pursuing sectional agenda. “We have also seen a progressive decline in the sanctity of human lives and protection of fundamental rights of Nigerians under the present government. “There is also the rising level of intolerance and tyrannical behaviours under Buhari’s regime and the complete desecration of democratic values in which the APC government has descended into. He added: “So, what this administration has done is such that by its conduct and character, it has lost its goodwill and by its own division and divisiveness, it has empowered and energised the opposition, including the PDP that has been out of power for the past three years. The PDP is getting stronger and stronger, despite the blackmail and intimidation from the ruling party. “From 2015 to date, the APC has been on the losing end; it has lost Kwara, Benue, Sokoto and it has lost legislators in the Middle Belt and the overwhelming support it had in the Southwest. You can see how the crisis within the party has destroyed its own ranks. With all theses, the APC is already a shadow of itself. Its final end will surely come during next year’s general elections.” Meanwhile, Sani denied authorising the production of a joint poster of Buhari and himself, which is currently circulating in Kaduna State. A press statement signed by his media aide, Abdulsamad Chima Amadi, stressed: “The new party the senator now belongs to, the PRP, has no presidential candidate in the elections, neither have they declared support for anyone. “My attention has been drawn to the existence of some political campaign materials having the pictures of Sani (PRP) and Buhari (APC) together. “The office of Sani wishes to inform the general public and at the same time make it categorically clear that we were not consulted, neither did we sanction the production of such political campaign materials. “Though we still hold Buhari and the office he occupies in very high esteem, however, it is a known fact that at the moment, our political party, the PRP, nether has a presidential candidate nor has the party adopted the presidential candidate of another political party.

The aspiration of Senator Magnus Abe to become the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has been dashed. This is after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, published the list of governorship candidates for the 2019 election in the state on Friday. The aspirant produced by the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi faction of party, Tonye Dele Cole was recognized as the party’s flagbearer by INEC, in the list pasted at its office in Port Harcourt. A Deputy National Secretary of the APC, Victor Giadom was also published as Cole’s running mate. Both Cole and Giadom are products of an indirect primary election. Also shortlisted are Governor Nyesom Wike and Dr (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry as governorship candidate and running mate for the PDP. Other shortlisted governorship candidates from other political parties in the State are: Elem Chinweike for Hope Democratic Party, HDP, Joseph Princewill for MPN, Tamunopriala Jumbo for PDC, Ngoye Benebo for UPN, and Kukang Barine for APM.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Zamfara has displayed lists of Governorship and State Assembly candidates in the state for the upcoming 2019 general elections without the APC candidates. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that names of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates were missing in the list displayed at the INEC Secretariat in Gusau on Friday. The political parties whose candidates were on the list were APGA, PDP, NRM, SDP, PRP, GPN and NCP among others. Speaking to newsmen in Gusau, the National Commissioner in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara, Hajiya Amina Zakari who was in the state for official visit, said the commission had not received a list of APC candidates. “I think, it has been said several times that the APC didn’t have candidates in the state, so we have not received their candidates. “This issue is in court and if court asks us to go ahead and receive their list, we will certainly receive their names. “Therefore, since date for the submission of candidates has been passed, we shouldn’t go on that now; we should concentrate on what will be beneficial to the communities which is voter register, claims, objections and verification,” she said. Zakari said she was in Zamfara to see how the state INEC office was doing and to observe and monitor the ongoing display of voters’ register, claims and objection. “The reason for the exercise is for eligible persons to check their names and confirm if they are on the list or if there is any mistake in the names or misspelled. “It is important for the politicians to look at the register critically and confirm to have credible list for the election.” She decried low turnout for collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards at the centers across the three states, urging stakeholders to assist in enlightening the public on the importance of collection. https://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/11/apc-candidates-names-missing-on-inec.html |
