larride: Which of your rival is bidding for Mainoo? Who will he bench in Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool or Man City midfield?
Una just dey overrate nonsense for here. Amorim spoke about being a manager and not a coach. In the press release when he was sacked, the club referred to him as the coach of the first team, so it's obvious there was disagreement about his role in the club and how he influences key decisions about player acquisition or departures. Afrodoc also said he read somewhere that the club was moving in a different direction when it comes to the recruitment of players. Amorim was not comfortable hence his outburst. I think the club were not willing to bring in players suited to the 3-4-3 formation as they were not convinced that going forward the club would adopt the system. The results didn't help, it left a lot of doubts so I wouldn't blame the management... Amorim's lack of flexibility is his main undoing... |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by patrickmuf(m): 11:45pm On Jan 11 |
Larride and all,
I want you guys to take time to watch our games with emphasis on how we defend as a unit. I have come to the conclusion that even if we sign Rodri, Rice and Szoboszlai, we will still struggle, maybe not as much, but certainly we will still concede a lot of chances when the opposition attacks. Football is a collective sport. The attack, midfield and defence must always be in sync at least for the majority of the game. Over here, when our attack presses, the midfield doesn't and it allows the opponent to bypass the press with simple movements. In other cases, the attack and midfield will press, but the defence will sit, leaving huge space in front of the defence. We still have not gotten this right, and it remains one of our major challenges
Today, there were a lot of instances where we tried to build from the back, but Welbeck, Rutter and the other Brighton players didn't let us, but for the majority of the game, they could easily play through haphazard press. There was a particular instance where Sesko, Mount, Bruno and Mainoo thought they had Brighton cornered, but a simple ball was played to the Brighton LW, and he was all alone because Dalot was not in sync with the rest. I am not sure the playing personnel alone will change this. Rather, the setup has to be right, and the players have to understand their roles on the pitch when we attack, press and defend. This is not clear when you watch our games, at least from what I see, and this is down to coaching and constant practice... |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by patrickmuf(m): 11:23pm On Jan 11 |
larride: Right now we need quality midfielders and probably a backup striker.
Once we actually have quality midfielders it will reduce how many attacks our defense is open to.
You can't be parading Case, Ugarte and Mainoo as your CMs in big 2026 and be expecting miracle. I am not against improving the squad but let me ask, will you sanction a move for Mainoo to any of our rivals? |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by patrickmuf(m): 11:21pm On Jan 11 |
eph12: No. I already gave up on Amorim long ago. His first sin was not demanding for a good CM. His thinking he could go into the season with the same midfield showed he is still a rookie. He probably thought he had a lot of time to take the team to that level most will be satisfied.
Secondly his substitutions were questionable. He struggled to rotate which shows his lack of trust in some players. That tells me he was already under a lot of pressure.
But one thing he did right was fight against those players that felt they were too big for the coach. He brought some level of discipline. If we had such discipline before, Greenwood would have been better managed. I just hope we don't relapse back because the next manager is soft.
However sacking Amorim is not everything that needs to happen in this transfer window. I agree with your points. I wanted him to speak out about the midfield, even at the risk of losing his job. He didn't realise it would be tough to get another opportunity at a top club if he failed here. He was confident in the team and must take responsibility for his poor judgment. Last summer, the board surprisingly spent on Cunha, Sesko, Mbeumo, and Lammens, even though Doc was unsure if we had up to £150m to spend on transfers. We almost signed Baleba, but Brighton's pricing was too high, showing the board's willingness to spend. Now, with only one game a week for five months, many players might not play. If we sign anyone in January, which is unlikely, they must be outgoing. Hopefully, the interim manager guides us to the top 4 while the board plans for the summer. I hope we find a permanent manager and secure deals early in the transfer window. |

Thankfully, £50m has been invested and no more excuses from that area When I saw the news that Amorim had been sacked, I never thought that we will have people here defending him and faulting the board for not sticking with him... |
