Joblessness matters for several reasons. First, it is miserable for those concerned. Second, it is a waste of human potential. Time spent e-mailing CVs or lying dejected on the sofa is time not spent fixing boilers, laying cables or building a business. Third, it is fiscally ruinous. If the young cannot get a foot on the career ladder, it is hard to see how in time they will be able to support the swelling number of pensioners. Fourth, joblessness can become self-perpetuating. The longer people are out of work, the more their skills and their self-confidence atrophy, the less appealing they look to potential employers and the more likely they are to give up and subsist on the dole. This “scarring” effect is worse if you are jobless when young, Over the next decade more than 1 billion young people will enter the global labour market, and only 40% will be working in jobs that currently exist, estimates the World Bank. Some 90% of new jobs are created by the private sector. The best thing for job creation is economic growth, so policies that promote growth are particularly good for the young. Removing regulatory barriers can aMaking it easier for young people to start their own business is essential, too. They may be full of energy and open to new ideas, but the firms they create are typically less successful than those launched by older entrepreneurs. The young find it harder to raise capital because they generally have a weaker credit history and less collateral. They usually also know less about the industry they are seeking to enter and have fewer contacts than their older peers. A survey by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor found that businesses run by entrepreneurs over the age of 35 were 1.7 times as likely to have survived for more than 42 months as those run by 25-34-year-olds. Young sub-Saharan Africans show the greatest enthusiasm for starting their own business: 52% say they would like to, compared with only 19% in rich Western countries. This is partly because many have little choice. There are fewer good jobs available in poor countries, and in the absence of a welfare state few people can afford to do nothing. also boost job creation.Alas, there is a huge mismatch everywhere between the skills that many young people can offer and the ones that employers need.As economies grow more sophisticated, demand for cognitive skills will keep rising. The world’s schools are not even close to meeting it |

WHAT A FAKE WORLD… A child comes into the world crying, Everyone is rejoicing… He starts growing Everyone loves him and desires to carry him and call him nice names He starts trying to succeed and people are encouraging him to rise up But when he starts making progress, the problem starts Some will become jealous, looking for how to pull him down He dares them and steps on their toes to climb higher They hate him and curse him and call him names, even wishing him dead… Unfortunately he dies and everyone starts crying… They start saying wonderful things about him “He was a good man” “He was nice” “He was faithful” But if I may ask, “Why will he suddenly become good after death?” “Will anyone give his/her life for this man to come back to life?” What if a miracle happens and the man starts rising again from the grave? Wow! Everyone will jump up and run for their lives… Hahahaha… what a fake world! Aren’t this world and the people fake? Pretence and deception everywhere Fake celebrities on tv, borrowing ladies and cars to shoot videos just to make us admire them and wish we were as wealthy as they are They act very sexy parts and appear half- Unclad in movies But they try to appear descent in real life So the life in the movie is far different from the real life? If so, why do we try to copy the ‘TV-life’ and not their real life? There is always a beautiful face on the cases of creams and soaps It’s just to deceive you and make you believe that the beautiful woman on the pack has been using the soap, therefore if you want your skin to be like hers, you have to buy the soap or cream… What a terrible lie… You will be shocked to know that the woman on the pack has never used that soap or cream, she is a model that was hired to make the product sell… Oh! It’s obvious that we live in a fake world, A world that cannot be trusted A world that will not last long A world that will soon fade away So I have no other choice than to stick to reality |
This is one of the most sensible comments
I've read in a
while, as regards to President Buhari's
nominations.
All these selfish, silly and aggrieved Yoruba/
Igbo people
should just go and sit somewhere.
Ndigbo's that are killing themselves about
the appointments made so far by President
Buhari are just funny. Aside the fact that we
Igbos shouldn’t expect sensitive
appointments from him because many of us
hate him without any justifiable reason and
no smart politician will give such positions
to his ‘enemies’,
what did all our brothers that occupied
sensitive positions
recently achieved for our geopolitical zone?
Recall that Igbos
recently occupied head positions in Central
Bank and
Ministry of Finance. Also, an Igbo was
recently appointed
Secretary to Government of the federation,
Minister of
power, Minister of Solid Minerals, Head of
Due Process unit,
Minister of Education, Minister of Aviation,
Executive
Director of Nigerian Communications
Commission, Chief of
Army Staff, Inspector General of Police,
Senate President,
Deputy Senate President and Deputy speaker
of house of
Representatives. Also recently, an Igbo was
appointed the
Director General of National Broadcasting
Commission. The
question is what did all those Igbo
appointees achieved for
Ndi Igbo? Even Goodluck Jonathan that you
foolishly
accepted as your brother during his days in
Aso Rock
achieved nothing for you when he was the
President.
If appointments can dictate how a region
should develop,
Southeast would have been a paradise by
now because our
brothers occupied almost all the sensitive
positions recently.
Another thing Igbos should understand is
that the federal
character principle they are quoting as their
basis of
argument is the greatest enemy of Nigeria
especially Igbos.
This principle champions the promotion of
tribal mindsets
instead of meritocracy in Nigeria as
Nigerians are always
after the state of origin of every federal
appointee and
prospective candidates for admissions
instead of their
performance. It is because of same federal
character that a
provision was made for ‘Education less
developed’ states
which always make it possible for indigenes
of those states
to be giving more and cheaper
consideration during
admissions and recruitment in order to
promote equity in
line with the federal character. This is
Rubbish! Such has
caused situations whereby somebody from
Anambra or Imo
will score average of about 260 in JAMB
UTME and POST-
UTME but will be denied admission while
somebody from
states like Zamfara, Ebonyi or Bayelsa will
score average of
about180 and will be admitted in order to
achieve the so
called equity in intellectual distribution
among all the states
in line with same federal character. Same
federal character
is the reason why instead of criticising the
performance
ability of appointees, Nigerians especially
Igbos will only be
interested in their states of origin.
Federal character is evil.
This is the hour of change and it must be
jettisoned! If
Nigeria must progress, we must do away
with federal
character and state of origin provisions and
encourage
meritocracy and state of residence. I don’t
care where
appointees come from, all I want is excellent
performance.
If the wailing Igbos like they should
continue hating Buhari
while the Niger-Deltans are busy
consolidating their region
and supporting his government. At last
Igbos will remain the
wailing loosers. It baffles me the way some
of my Igbo
brothers are hating Buhari without any
justifiable reason.
Even the Niger-Deltans that are more closer
to the failed
government of Goodluck Jonathan always
acknowledge that
he betrayed them, but the Igbos that are not
in any way
brothers to the failed President are killing
themselves and
even their conscience with baseless
sentiments. Also, I have
expected these misguided Igbos to
understand that the
Niger-Deltans who they foolishly took as
their brothers
during the elections are not at any point
with them. These
Niger-Deltans have understood that they
can't make any
political achievement in Nigeria without the
cooperation of
other tribes, and wisely began to issue their
supports and
cooperation to the Buhari led government
while the
misguided Igbos are still enslaving
themselves with baseless
sentiments. Believe it or not, political
appointments are
catalysed by intelligent lobbying and not
unnecessary
hatred. No smart politician will appoint his
haters to
sensitive positions.
I will never blame Buhari if he fails to
appoint any Igbo to key positions. I am
proud of Niger- Deltans and they are already
reaping the fruits of their wisdom. Igbos
should have a rethink!
