DeLaRue: Pavore, I assume you're no longer in Kenya.
My desired cabbage seeds are mostly in Kenya, yet it seems rather difficult to buy seeds from the country.
African countries put all manner of barriers up against intra African trade.
I can easily order seeds from China, the US etc but from Kenya, South Africa or Burkina Faso, it's so difficult.
The seed I want is Fabiola cabbage. Do you have any leads please? Nairobi is still my base but frequently travelling outside Kenya. The easiest way to get seeds from Nairobi to Lagos is giving it to someone who is flying down to Lagos. Have a Kenyan who is flying into Nigeria by the third week of October to set up a farm. |

Agriculture › As We Approach The Dry Season. by Pavore9(mod): 8:23pm On Sep 27, 2017 |
It has been a while but the need to share burns. As we are heading to the dry season, many who lean towards cropping have their thoughts circling around the availability of water. Anyone who wants to run a profitable crop farming business should not be dependent on rainfall because you need to plant all year round and harvest all year round......it is very possible! Access to water 365 days a year is very central thus harvesting all year round. Don't be a crop farmer that is rain-dependent, you cheat yourself. Everything is possible if you push along the extra mile. Now to other things. Going through different threads, I read where questions such as: Will cucumber grow in Edo State? Will Chilli thrive in Imo State? Some years back while working in Awka, I experimented growing cucumber in a perforated old plastic bucket which was kept at the balcony, I did get a good harvest and more importantly the conviction that things are possible, unlearning irrational beliefs. Exotic crops like strawberry is very possible outside areas like Plateau state because knowledge overrides myths. Somewhere in the southwest within the next 10months, organic strawberries will be harvested in tonnes...#codedgist! |

coluka: Yeah you have a point, but just pointing out to you that it doesn't happen overnight. Sudan had been at war for many years before The ICC warrant was issued. Your post was insinuating that the ICC doesn't give a damn about what happens in South Sudan or Africa. Well it does. it's a matter of time if Salva kiir and riek machar don't stop the rubbish, they will also have their day at the Hague just like many African leaders like Laurent Gbagbo, foday sankoh, john koroma, Charles Taylor e.t.c The ICC So many damning reports have been written against these two and thFeir foot soldiers even by Amnesty international over the years but much has not been done to stop their madness. Most South Sudaneses I work with in Nairobi and their folks back have given up because most who should have intervened has economic interests in the war torn country and when those two have had their fill of destruction they will negotiate their exit! |

coluka: Are you aware that there is an arrest warrant from the ICC on the head of President Omar al bashir of Sudan for the atrocities committed in South Sudan? Buhari should just continue. Amnesty international is already on his matter concerning the killing of Shiites and IPOB members. The EU has already cautioned him over his actions against IPOB. Let him continue playing ostrich, his own cup will be full one day Referring to atrocities presently being committed by South Sudaneses against each other. |

kcgreatk: Since january, i ve been strategising to embark on dry season farming of chilli pepper in november. d bad news is people telling me d crop doesnt produce here in d south east. pls comment if u av experience farming pepper in this region. 10 years ago, while working in Enugu and Anambra I was being laughed at for saying cucumber, cabbage and other veggies will do well in the South East. Go on with your project and prove them wrong, it is even chilli and they are talking, let them wait to see that growing strawberries is possible in Mbano, Obowo,Owerri,Orlu.......it is all about knowledge! |
Agriculture › Re: Vertical Sack Farming Made Easy by Pavore9(mod): 4:43pm On Sep 27, 2017 |
hahn: 2 years later and no one is even talking about the N5,000 again
But this your idea is valid o. If I had N5m I could start an institute and while the kids are learning how to farm, I can sell the produce and use it to reinvest in their farms with a percentage of their profit coming to me
And recycle the idea
What do you think? It is a bankable concept as the ripple effect will be high impact. There's so much opportunities untapped in Nigeria. Take for instance, Ogun State if driven by vision can be in a prime position to supply Lagos with at least 100,000 litres of pasteurized milk daily packaged in 50cl satchet as we have with the pure water as that is how it is also packed in Kenya alongside getting it from the dispensing machine. This is very possible utilizing zero grazing. Vertical sack farming is one of the very practical and low-cost set up that can easily empower many unengaged hands. |
