This is how intelligence works.

1) it's either they just do not care anymore and have grown in confidence so felt so sure that the Nigerian army cannot locate them, or

2) they knew that the girls would obviously be interviewed so deliberately took them on this trip as a throw off to the Nigerian army. If I could notice what the girl said and the clues of their location so would the military.
