Despite owing a debt of over N65 billion, the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) yester day reinstated Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah as the Managing Di rector/Chief Executive Of ficer (CEO) of Capital Oil and Gas (COG), nearly 17 months after it took over the assets and management of the oil firm following a con­troversial loan deal involving Access Bank and Coscharis Group.

The reinstatement of Ubah puts to rest the close to two years management of the com pany by AMCON.

AMCON, in a statement an nouncing the return of COG to Ubah and signed by its Spokesman, Kayode Lambo, said it has reached an ami cable settlement with him of all pending legal disputes be tween the parties.

‘‘Consequent upon this settlement, Ubah will be re suming his role as the Man aging Director/CEO of COG. His resumption as MD/CEO of COG brings to an end the management of COG by AM CON.

“This is in accordance with the terms of settlement as agreed by both parties that the loan be serviced as per the judgement of the Federal High Court.

“This settlement is in line with AMCON’s roles as a resolution vehicle to help stabi lise and revitalise the Nigerian banking system and econo my,’’ AMCON assured.

The oil marketer incurred AMCON’s wrath after the Chairman of Coscharis Group, Mr. Cosmos Maduka, ex plained that his foray into fuel business with Capital Oil was necessitated more by compas sion to bail the young Ubah out of a credit crunch crisis as most Nigerian banks had refused to advance him any more facili ties for his business due to his failure to honor outstanding obligations. Vibrant Venture Limited was subsequently ap pointed as a warehousing agent for the joint venture partner ship.

Maduka claimed after the joint venture deal was sealed, that both companies were able to secure a loan from Access Bank for the importation of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), but alleged that Ubah and his company breached the terms of the deal by engaging in the diversion of the imported products and other fraudulent activities which had marred the ability to execute the joint venture deal as a profitable es tablishment.

Recall that AMCON had in 2012 shut the premises of Capital Oil and Gas follow ing an Abuja Federal High Court ruling that it should take over the company’s proper ties and assets over an alleged N48.014 billion debt. Though the change of management by AMCON was not effected un til June 21, 2013

The closure of the compa ny’s 196-million-litre capacity storage tank often used by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for prod­ucts storage had hampered products distribution across the country then.

Jonathan needs a very experienced war time General as his National Security Adviser at this moment. Someone like Martin Luthar Agwai. He can bring his experience as CAOS, CDS in the Nigerian Army and UN commander of Peace Keeping Force in Sudan. He will not be seen on day to day basis but he will be a wise consul to the President.

Gusau should be removed and Sambo Dasuki can be made defence minister with the responsibility to brief Nigerians often on the efforts of Government to defeat Boko Haram. Dasuki can co-ordinate this regular briefings alonside the military spokesman.

It just seems parts of Nigeria are being overun and no one is doing anything or saying what they are doing about it. The crisis in the North East needs more focus.

No amount of advice can change the situation on.ground. the troops on the front are not motivated, they see the way dead colleagues family are shabbily treated and they feel shortchanged by the brazen diversion into private pockets funds approved for the counter-terrorism.

No one wants to die for nothing. The system needs reorientation and remotivation. You can't be in the front battling the insurgents and those who you feel are ripping you off are being celebrated N awarded with national honours.

I've young officers close to me who are grumbling about the situation but cant talk because of the fears of bein labelled a traitor or courtmarshalled. The government need to deal with the leakage and stealing of money meant to deal with the issue.

Honestly, I don't trust any northern officer.

I strongly believe that most northern military personnel are sabotaging the war effort and/or are sympathetic to Boko Haram while their southern counterparts are mostly cowardly and careless since it's not their land.

The north has produced some of the best military tacticians in the Nigerian Army. The issue with Boko haram is the corruption and the greed to pack ad much as possible by the top echelons.

There is a revolt and anger amongst the rank and file and also junior officers about the way the fight against BH is being handled. There is no no zeal and readiness to fight till death by soldiers anymore who.see the way.some generals get too rich at their own.expense and fallen soldiers are not dignified in death.
