Who else thinks this is a very bad business idea? |
Two students of Greensprings School, Lagos, Chioma Abone and Emmanuela Ilok, have developed the idea of products that use wearable technology to address the increasing abduction of school children in Nigeria. The students, while presenting their idea at this year’s Young Tycoon Business Competition, said the plan is to have a security company that will develop two products that keep school students safe by alerting family and friends when they are in a state of emergency. The duo emerged one of the 28 finalists out of the 7,000 participants from 80 countries that entered for the competition. Winner of the competition is expected to win $960,000 worth of prizes. Explaining their business idea, the students said: “The inspiration for our business idea came from insecurity in the country. As students, we are not happy with the news of the constant abduction of fellow students in some parts of Nigeria. “So, we decided to work on an idea about a company called Paramount Guard, which seeks to offer security services to school students, not only in Nigeria but all over the world. The company plans to introduce AirGuard Wearable, which pairs with the AirGuard App to help students quickly alert family members and friends when in critical situation or a state of emergency.” Secondary school principal at Greensprings, Anthony campus, Mrs Magdalene Okrikri, expressed happiness at the students’ advancement to the finals, saying with the total number of participants, their emergence as finalists was a great feat. She said: “This achievement is a testament to Greensprings School’s drive to raise young entrepreneurs. We are indeed very proud of them and I wish them success in the final.” The Young Tycoon Business Competition is organised by a consortium of the world’s top universities and Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, with the aim of motivating and mentoring aspiring high-school entrepreneurs across the globe. The competition started in May, and finalists have gone through three rounds, where they submitted their business ideas, developed business plans and defended their pitch decks. The fourth and final round will take place at a later date yet to be announced.

The crypto thief is being offered the role of Chief Security Advisor and a $500,000 reward. Last week, over $600M in cryptocurrency was stolen in an elaborate digital heist when a hacker exploited a vulnerability in Poly Network, a platform used to make cryptocurrency transactions across different blockchains. If that wasn't a wild enough story, the hacker later returned nearly all of the stolen currency after the illegal transactions were flagged (which made the money nearly impossible to convert to US dollars anyway). In yet another bizarre twist to this story, Poly Network announced today in a Medium post that it has maintained daily contact with the hacker referred to as Mr White Hat. Poly Network claims that the hacker shared his concerns about "Poly Network’s security and overall development strategy" in the post. Poly Network then offered Mr. White Hat a job as Chief Security Advisor of Poly Network. It's not uncommon for hackers to make living testing out the digital defense of large companies for a fee. The idea is: Who better to run your security than the person who robbed you? "We are also counting on more experts like Mr. White Hat to be involved in the future development of Poly Network since we believe that we share the vision to build a secure and robust distributed system," the company wrote. "Also, to extend our thanks and encourage Mr. White Hat to continue contributing to security advancement in the blockchain world together with Poly Network, we cordially invite Mr. White Hat to be the Chief Security Advisor of Poly Network." Poly Network also promised Mr. White Hat a $500,000 bug bounty for discovering the exploit that resulted in the massive theft, although the hacker initially turned it down. Poly Network still sent him the $500K for him to do as he pleases. The company also stated that it is not holding Mr. White Hat legally responsible because it's "confident that Mr. White Hat will promptly return full control of the assets to Poly Network and its users." Though his name is Mr. White Hat, some users have found it hard to believe that the theft was an unexpected security test and not simply a messy heist that both sides are now trying to recover from. And if you're still keeping count, as of Friday, $340M was returned along with $238M to a multi-signature wallet with a remainder of $33M that's currently waiting to be unfrozen. Poly Network also took this moment to turn lemons into lemonade and announce the launch of a bug bounty program. Discovering vulnerabilities on their platform can score you up to $100,000. The Senate on Thursday started the process of establishing rehabilitation centers that would fully reintegrate repentant Boko Haram terrorists into the Nigerian society, in the south eastern part of Nigeria... The bill to establish the new centers passed first reading today at plenary. The proposed centers, according to the proposed legislation, would provide education and jobs for insurgents and a new life away from the environment and life of insurgency they are used to..

Hello guys..so, I would be going for a change of institution on my jamb portal soon(in a matter of hours),but I find it hard to choose between UNILAG and LASU...I just need advice on which to go for. The following need to be put into consideration... 1) Environment- this is the most important of all because I plan on Living outside the school premises, so I don't want a place littered with criminals and crime.. 2) socialisation- I'm not a social person at all. in fact, I am a cold blooded introvert. So I want a place where I can make good friends easily and also explore outside my comfort zone.. 3) availability of affordable housing- i also need a place that offers affordable rent outside school premises..... So, my fellow nairalanders, please help a brother out... |
