Is it wise ? No! Can he do it? That depends on him. She has 3 children that are not his, children that are older than 2 or 3. He will face several challenges including getting those kids to listen to him as they will recognize he is not their father. we don't have anything to export, because cost of production is usually high and same goods can be produced for cheaper somewhere else in Africa and dumped in Nigeria

Pretty simple

1) If the agreement had been signed they'd have access to 1.2 billion customers across Africa and 200 million in Nigeria itself
2) Unlike most others, Nigeria is self sufficient owing to the agricultural land and resource availability, its just badly managed
3) Good rail networks can be built, Nigeria is big but not too big and borders west Africa which would be the biggest target market. It also has developed ports to sell to South and East Africa
4) Electricity is a problem but foreign investment could fix that
5) Nigeria destroyed our own manufacturing base. Foreign investment could have fixed that
6) Most importantly the largest number of poor people in the world. Very cheap labor

The way I see it the most sensible places to start manufacturing would be Nigeria, Kenya, etc. Nigeria with our large population and resources could have been the number 1 choice.

Why in the world would Nigeria not sign this? Nigeria has a large educated population that specializes in service provision, a huge manufacturing base and a large number of poor. This agreement would allow Nigeria to import commodities form other countries and export finished goods in turn. Nigerians could travel to other countries and provide their expertise. The poor could go seek work in other countries. This agreement would benefit Nigeria in every way. I cant see how it would harm us.

Congratulations brethren. Such a proud moment for us. We were behind India for a long time based on percentage (5.3% of their population vs 44% of us) but now even in sheer numbers we are the poorest. Our population is 195 million. Theirs is 1200 million.

Actually google says it’s Mexico. India did have the largest slum in the world at one point but today that is in Pakistan. Also there is a report available on slum dwelling population of each country by year. China, Turkey, India etc had 60% of their population in slums in the 1960s. Today it is at 6% for China, 18% for India and 1% for Turkey. These countries keep reducing their slum population year upon year. Wanna know where slum populations are increasing ? Our countries, in Nigeria, in Kenya in C.A.R. We cannot pretend our countries are amazing when our slums are exploding out of control.

New York is too developed to have full scale slums. However, they do have ghettos which are very poor and extremely underdeveloped parts of the city

They're preserving their cultural heritage. Nowhere does it say these people will actually practice witchcraft on people. More likely they will be experts in the knowledge and practices of those traditions. The course also includes other things such as social customs and cultural practices. This course is no different to, for instance Egyptology where you study the culture and history of Egypt of islamic studies where you learn the history of and about the cultural practices of Islam (Not an Imam but an expert in Islamic culture). My friends brother is doing such a course. These courses don't aim at real jobs beyond maybe writing scholarly articles on these topics or teaching tourists or others about them. Instead they're attempts to preserve cultural heritage. Those who get this degree can always still work other jobs while being an expert about that culture.

The problem is there HRM firms function more as temp agencies than actual HR firms. They’re also clearly abusing the process. When you outsource the work, the employees must be housed by and provided for by the HRM firm which must pay ten, give them health benefits, give them career trajectory’s etc. Or you can outsource HR to companies that simply hire and recruit for you and manage the employee growth in that same company. They get paid by the company and cannot take from the salaries of the employees . At least that is how it’s supposed to work in the west but sigh, This is Nigeria.

Nigeria is a developing country and not a developed one, so things like this are bound to happen.

Nigeria is Africa's largest economy and Port Harcourt is the third, maybe fourth most important city. As such, a Canopy airport, even if it is a developing country, is unacceptable. I've attached pictures of Egypt's third biggest city and Ethiopia's second biggest city's airports. They are both developing African countries that rank behind Nigeria. Yet their airports are solid buildings (Although Ethiopia's airport is quite ugly).

Nigeria is leading South Africa in net foreign reserves as that of the West African country hits $47.37 billion in March to beat South Africa which has $43.15 billion.

Nigeria which recently recovered from economic recession with less than $21 billion in foreign reserves has built up its reserves massively over one and half years. The increase in the country’s foreign reserves is reported to have stabilised its foreign exchange which had gone haywire in the past.

South Africa’s reserves fell to $43.115 billion in April from $43.384 billion in March, the Reserve Bank said on Tuesday. The forward position, which represents the central bank’s unsettled or swap transactions, was lower at 1.933 billion dollars from 1.996 billion dollars in the previous month. “The decrease of 440 million dollars in the gross reserves reflects the foreign exchange payments made on behalf of the government and the appreciation of the U.S. dollar against most currencies,” the central bank said. Nigeria’s new figures rose from about $46.2 billion realised at the end of March.

The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, announced the new balance in the reserves at the opening of the 25th seminar for Business Editors and financial Correspondents in Uyo. Mr Emefiele, who was represented by the newly appointed deputy governor, Corporate Services, Edward Adamu, said the CBN hopes to meet the $50 billion target before the end of the year.

Foreign reserves are phenomenally easy to acquire for a resource based economy, especially one that relies on oil. Literally exporting of crude earns you dollars. Nigeria is far weaker than South Africa in every other metric be it economic development, diversification, infrastructure, literacy, wealth per person, etc.

If shes afraid of the future consequences tell her that its her only solution, she has to stand up for herself. If she cant then tell her to accept the bad grades and move on.

With Nigeria's population set to nearly double by 2050 and hit 750 million by 2100 (current population is 195 million) what are Nairalander's thoughts on this? Good for the country? Bad for the country? What about the refugees that will surely flood in from Niger (Population set to triple with very low agricultural area) and Chad? How will Nigeria deal?
