The negative effects of drug abuse on Nigerian youths can’t be over-emphasized. A young man who was high on drugs on Easter day – collapsed and began behaving strangely near a river in Delta state. According to online reports, the man allegedly took marijuana, tramadol among other drugs in an attempt to get himself high on the festive day.

Rather than get himself high, he got himself low by collapsing on the ground where he stayed for some minutes before he entered the river to cool off his “hot” brain.

He was filmed by a friend/resident who mocked him as he behaved strangely.

The non-academic unions of universities, which began an industrial strike since December 4, 2017, has suspended its strike.

The Chairman of the Joint Action Committee of the unions, Samson Ugwuoke, announced this decision at a briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, noting that “based on extensive consultations with our various organs, we hereby announce the suspension of the strike action embarked upon by JAC with effect from today, March 14.”

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Rotimi Ojo, made the disclosure in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday.

He said that five out of the eight new suspected cases in the state tested negative while one was uncertain, with the last pending as at press time.

Ojo added that the patient that tested positive and two others had passed away.

The commissioner insisted that there was still no cause for alarm in the state as government was taking proactive steps in its surveillance activities.

He gave an assurance that the State Disease Control team had been activated while the process of sensitising the people with jingles and other communication media were ongoing.

Ojo said that similar actions taken during the 2016 outbreak were successful, adding that the epidemic was controlled and the identified patient, who was properly managed, survived.

He said that the three isolation centres located at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti, Oba Adejuyigbe General Hospital, Ado Ekiti and Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, were still operational.

The commissioner urged all stakeholders, including health practitioners, teachers, traditional rulers, religious leaders as well as community and opinion leaders, to collaborate with the state government to prevent the spread of the disease.

Ojo also advised residents of the state to avoid self medication and keeping sick people at home, adding that any unusual increase in temperature or fever must be promptly reported to the nearest health facility.

He further urged residents to embrace environmental sanitation practices and general cleanliness.

1. SVCHOST.EXE
This is the major data gulper in windows 10 zapping about 1gb in 30 mins. It is a Windows process responsible for all updates including Windows, Windows defender and other Microsoft products.

To turn it off, Go to Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services - search for BITS and Stop the service by right clicking on it then click on stop.


Or alternatively you can use command prompt which is easier. Right-click on windows icon and select "command prompt (admin)" then copy and paste this command
net stop BITS then press enter.
Whenever you want to update windows again, you will need to enable it again with
net start BITS

2. SET YOUR CONNECTION AS METERED
This will let Windows 10 know you don't want large updates and apps automatically download.
Go to Start > Settings >Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Advanced Options.
Then Toggle on Set as metered connection

P.S: Locating this setting might differ on your PC depending on your windows 10 Build version

3. TURN LIVE TILES OFF
Those live tiles on your Start menu use a bit of data too-although not much. You won't save much data by disabling live tiles, but you can do it if you want to save every little bit.
To prevent a tile from automatically downloading and displaying new data, right-click on the tile in the
Start menu , point to " More ," and select " Turn Live Tile Off ."

4. TURN OFF BACKGROUND APPS
By default, Windows 10 keeps some apps running in the background and they eat up a lot of data. If you are not using any of these apps, you should consider turning them off.

To Turn off background apps, Go to Settings > Privacy > Background apps. You can turn off the unneeded ones.

5. PREVENT AUTOMATIC APP UPDATES AND LIVE TILE UPDATES
To prevent Windows 10 from updating Windows Store apps on its own, open the Store app. Click or tap your profile picture near the search box and select " Settings ." Disable the " Update Apps Automatically" checkbox. You can still update your Store apps manually from the Windows Store app, but Windows won't automatically download app updates on its own

6. DISABLE PC SYNCING
This is one of the hallmark feature of Windows 10 and quite useful as well. But honestly, you don't need to have it running around the clock. You can turn it off and when you do need to keep things synced, you can easily turn it on.
To do that, Go to Settings > Accounts > Sync your settings and turn Sync settings off.

7. DEFER WINDOWS UPDATES
If you are running Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise, there is an option in Windows Update settings that lets you defer the download of new features for several months. This can be significant since new feature improvements can be quite large. This does not affect the download and installation of security updates.
To Defer Upgrades, Go to Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update > Advanced Options scroll down a bit and check Defer feature updates

8. SET "OneDrive" OFF
OneDrive is one of the other background apps in the Windows 10 that depletes your data in no time. Yes, the One Drive does help you sync your files which makes life simpler, but not all of us need that function.

To deactivate the OneDrive, right click on the "Task Bar" and open "Task Manager" from the list or alternatively use your keyboard shortcuts, such as, CTRL + SHIFT + ESC all at once to open it. Click "more details" if it's not already expanded then click the "Startup" tab. Scroll down and select "Microsoft OneDrive" and disable it.

9. TURN OFF AUTO UPDATE OF OFFLINE MAPS IN WINDOWS 10
Just go to Settings -> System -> Offline Maps . Turn off the option Automatically Update Maps.

10. SAVE DATA ON WEB BROWSING
There's a good chance that a lot of your data usage comes from your web browser-you can see just how much by looking at the Data Usage screen.
To save data on this web browsing, use a web browser that includes a built-in compressing proxy feature. The web browser will route the data through other servers where it's compressed before being sent to you.
Google offers an official "Data Saver extension" for
Google Chrome, and it functions the same as the Data Saver feature built into the Chrome browser on Android and iPhone. The Opera browser also has a " Turbo mode ", which works similarly. You can use ad blockers as well and avoid streaming videos online.

11. CHECK NETWORK USAGE In WINDOWS 10 VIA NETWORK SETTING SECTION
If after doing all the above and you're still experiencing data zapping, then go through this steps to know the particular app suckling your data

Navigate to Settings -> Network & Internet. Select "Data usage" then click on "Usage details"

The General Court Martial (GOC) sitting in Maiduguri, Borno State has sentenced a soldier serving in Operation Lafiya Dole to death for murder.

Deputy Director 7 Division Army Public Relations, Colonel Kingsley Samuel in a statement on Friday said the soldier, Lance Corporal John Godwin, was charged with murder for killing five rescued civilians in Yamteke town of Borno State.

The civilians were earlier rescued by troops of the soldier’s battalion and were taken for investigation at the time the soldier shot and killed five of them.

“Another soldier, Sergeant Innocent Ototo, was sentenced to life imprisonment for manslaughter after torturing and killing a 13-year-old boy who he said stole his phone. The incident happened at Zamanbari area of Maiduguri metropolis in Borno State.

“While Lance Corporal Benjamin Osage and Private Sunday Onwe were also sentenced to 20 years imprisonment each for offences bordering on manslaughter and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition,” the statement read.

Delivering the judgement, the President of the Court Martial, Brigadier General Gbenga Olusegun Adesina, said that the offences run contrary to Nigerian Army’s Rules of Engagement (ROE) and also against Nigerian Laws and Geneva Conventions which Nigeria is the signatory to and which the Nigerian Army as a professional Army holds in high esteem.

Other soldiers were also sentenced for various offences ranging from manslaughter to illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
