Controversial Ghanaian singer Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel, says getting married is not readily in her plans.

The 37-year-old said although many hold the view that she is old enough to be married by now, it is not a priority for her.

Tragedy struck in the early hours to Monday in Benin City, as a couple Imafidon Ototie and his wife were found dead in an apartment in Ototie Street, Behind Ekae Primary School, Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

Amenze Obarisiagbon reports that the deceased may have died after inhaling fume from the power generator kept on the corridor beside their room.

According to eyewitness the eldest son of the deceased, who noticed that his father, stepmother and younger brother have not woken up from sleep, with the door of their room still locked called for help. They said when neighbors forced the door open, the couple were found dead, while one of his sons survived.

The police command in Nasarawa State has confirmed the abduction of a former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Mr Hussaini Akwanga.

Akwanga served during the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo but was removed on Dec. 4, 2003, following an alleged 214 million dollar national identity card scam.

The spokesman of the Nasarawa State Police Command, DSP. Kennedy Idirisu, who confirmed the abduction in Lafia on Wednesday, said that Akwanga was kidnapped by gunmen at his farm on Wamba Road in Akwanga on Aug. 22. Akwanga town is about 46km north of Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.

Idirisu said that on receiving information on the abduction, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Abubakar Sadiq-Bello, mobilised policemen, led by the deputy commissioner in charge of operations to search for the abducted former minister.

“As we speak, the commissioner himself has gone to Akwanga to boost the rescue operation to ensure that the victim is released unhurt.”

Idirisu reiterated the commitment of the command to ridding the state of kidnappers and other criminal elements.

Meanwhile, a family source told NAN that the kidnappers had contacted them, demanding an unspecified amount as ransom.

On May 6, the mother and sister of a member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Kassim Mohammed, were similarly abducted in Akwanga.

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, The general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God on Friday visited ailing Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari in London.

Apart from notable public officials and members of his family, Adeboye is probably the first Nigerian clergy to visit the president since he left Nigeria for London to seek medical treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

Glo subscriber should use 100MB plus N150 on voice calls or N250 on voice calls between Friday, 4th and Thursday 10th August to qualify for the data largesse.

The Senate on Tuesday finally passed a bill to make the Nigerian Peace Corps a para-military agency.

The Senate adopted the conference report on the bill to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps, after it was so advised by its committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives had separately passed the bill last year.

However, after the harmonisation of the two separate bills, the Senate had rejected the harmonised version, which has now been approved.

The bill will be sent to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent after the House also approves? the harmonised version.

It is not clear if the presidency will approve of the bill as several departments in the executive including the police and the military are opposed to the legalisation of the Peace Corps which is currently a private NGO.
