The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin City over the appeal filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu (POI) against the decision of the Justice Badamasi-led Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed the Cross Appeal filed by the All Progressives Party (APC) and Governor Godwin Obaseki (GO) which sought to nullify the recount of the ballot papers ordered by the Tribunal, a process that exposed a lot of inaccuracies and over voting which gave the APC the declared lead at the September 28 Election.

The court ruled that the cross appeal lacked merit and was a mere ‘academic exercise’.

In the same ruling, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal filed by the PDP and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu challenging the judgement of the tribunal which validated the election of Mr Godwin Obaseki.

In dismissing the Appeal, the Court of Appeal described the Appeal as lacking in merit.

All parties have one final chance to appeal both decisions of the Court of Appeal.

The Electoral Act grants either party the right to approach the Supreme Court for adjudication and whatever decision the Supreme Court makes become final, binding and unappealable.

It is unclear whether the PDP or POI will appeal the decision but investigation by Urhokpota Reporters indicate that the PDP/POI will proceed to the Supreme Court shortly and advance their case.

The implication of the judgements by the Tribunal, for Nigeria’s jurisprudence and the country’s electoral system is dangerous because it gives the confusing impression that over voting means when the total number of votes cast exceeds the total number of voters registered instead of the total number of voters accredited to vote, thereby rubbishing the process of accreditation of voters in an election.

But the Supreme Court, being the repository of the jurisprudence of Nigeria, shall make pronouncement on this and clear any confusion.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin City has fixed Friday June 9, 2017 to give judgement on the Appeal filled by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu against the decision og the Justice Badamasi-led Edo State Election Petition Tribunal judgement which validated the election of Mr Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The appellants asked the court of Appeal to set aside the judgement of the Tribunal and declare Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as winner of the September 28 2016 Edo State Gubernatorial Election.

The APC, INEC and Mr Obaseki asked the court to disregard the appeal by the appellants, and also filed a cross appeal asking the court to invalidate the order by the Tribunal for the inconclusive recount of ballot papers used during the election.

Whatever the decision of the Court of Appeal may be, either party reserves one last chance to make an appeal to the Supreme Court which decision on the matter is final and binding.

A randy driver has been caught on camera having s*x with a woman while driving on a major highway in Moscow.

The man was driving his Hyundai at 45mph on a highway while risking his life and that of his partner.

At least nine people have been killed and 30 injured in a twin suicide bombing in northern Cameroon on Friday (2 June).

The suicide bombers detonated explosive devices near a camp hosting people displaced by an ongoing insurgency at then hands of Nigeria-based Boko Haram terrorists.

Early reports claim the two male bombers were disguised as female refugees. They entered thetown of Kolofata, around 10km (6 miles) from the border with Nigeria, before dawn and pretended to be looking for food before the start of the daytime fast observed by Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan, Reuters reported.

“Once among the population, they detonated their explosives, one after the other. The official death toll is 11, including the two suicide bombers, and 30 wounded,” Mindjiyawa Bakary, governor of Cameroon’s Far North region, said.


A policeman present at the scene of the bombing said: “It was unbearable. People were screaming. Others were moaning. It was total horror.”

At least 10 of the wounded people have been transported to a nearby hospital.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blasts, but suspicion is likely to fall on Boko Haram, which has often carried out attacks in northern Cameroon.

At least nine people were killed in an attack in northern Cameroon in October 2015, when two girls detonated their explosives near Mora town.The twin explosions were blamed on Boko Haram, renowned for kidnapping women and children and forcing them to carry out suicide attacks.
In August 2015, Cameroonian authorities arrested two suspected terrorists disguised as female refugees. The men, who were carrying explosives in their luggage, were stopped at the Minawao refugee camp in the north of the country, near the border with Nigeria.

Some notorious and deadly cultists have been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police in Imo state. This was revealed in a statement by the Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike in the state.
It reads: “On 10/05/2017 at about 06 50hrs, operatives of Orji Police Division received a distress call that a group of cultists were rampaging at Orji Comprehensive Secondary School during initiation activity and were shooting indiscriminately.

A combined team of operatives responded to the area. On sighting the police operatives, the hoodlums started shooting and fled to different locations. Thirty-one (31) suspected cultists were later arrested. The suspects are undergoing screening at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID)
The State Commissioner of Police CP Chris Ezike who coordinated the operation averred that cult related activities is a top priority in his road map to fighting crime and criminality in the state. He stated that those arrested would be charged to court after investigation.
