Not sure why seun would block a guy like you...but hey Seun I think you're wrong on this count, we do not have water in Nigeria. You called boiling your water having water? or having ur own hole dug as having water?, there is no water in Nigeria and no food. You may have to check the United Nations Statistics. Nigeria is one of the country with no food, to say the least water.America has food, becuase, with 5 dollars you would eat nicely...go to shaws and you would buy a huge baked chicken for 4ollars and 85cents...ok...but in Nigeria, such food is for the wealthy, why? because all the kids who read agri and agric econs in college are all in lagos working with a bank. we got the land and all that, but nobody is there to work them...farming for for the uneducated, wondering why kids still go to college to study agric and even soil management.....only to come to lagos where there is not even a soil to walk on. Wondering why nigerian govt. can provide those basic amenities cited by the first threader. Its a shame, no electricity, no roads and all that stuff, just tired of even thinking about it...makes me sick to the stomach. |
[font=Lucida Sans Unicode][b]hey I must start by saying I'm a huge fan of Kokcity...the kid is cute, he intellectualizes and pointificates in all subject matter and I always look for his candid opinions. I never knew we share one thing in common, french speaking african women. I never dated a nigerian girl, met a few, full of drama, I just don't get it.A friend told me he works with one in NYC, she always would turn him down until he started dating the white chick next cubicle. The naija girl then freaked out. Fact still remains that, when I want to get married, its french african or a naija striaght from Nigeria. |
This is the finest and most interesting post I ever came across on this page, well thanks to Seun and other contributors....what can I tell you..its a huge problem and one that is very shameful, I mean for the name Nigeria. One of the contributors did say scam emanates from other places as well, sure thats very true, but even as he also opined, the bulk comes from Nigeria.I just got done by reading a link from this thread that details the lifestyle of a scamer. The kids think its a game, but sure not.The name Nigeria is even become scary to international investors.Personally I have suffered being a nigerian.Twice at a conference in Frankfurt and the other at a business meeting in Luxemburg.A business conference with a special tag, that no one should do any online business with the phrase/cluase "nigeria" and you being a nigerian seated there, would do nothing but sob. Bank of America has a special training for their employees on Nigerian scam...go figure. Finally, I'm glad something is being done at the least, we have commissions trying to do something. few yrs ago I walked into my bosses office and saw a fax coming from Nigeria and from the Central Bank of Nigeria. I looked behind me and saw the coast was clear to safe my face, I took the fax went in to my office, read it thru. and tore it into countless pieces. Please lets all pray for that country and our brothers and sisters doing this mess. |
Hi Stranger... arguably by nature nigerians are more hyper compared to Ghanians in any facet of social endeavour. |
The beauty of this forum is that you're confronted with divers opinion on every subject, besides, thats the characteristics of most major opinion pages. Now on that subject, I think the first presenter did commit an error by saying "most" nigerians. There are a few who think Gansterism is a way to show that they have actually arrived America.Where I live here, its Liberians who do that, not a few nigerians. We have doctors and engineers here at age 28.Once again, depends on your motivation before you came in here.Like on campuses in Nigeria we had secret cults, right? so a kid who was in cultism who have the tendercy of doing thesame here by joining a gang.We just pray they grow up before they got shot.again age and location is a factor.Personally I think its just senseless for a kid to leave Nigeria come here think of joining a gang..I mean..c'mon...but you know, you never know. |
stories like this just makes my heart bleed...I'm one Nigerian living in the USA with a love for the revitalization of the Nigerian factor I mean at all facets. Nigerian police is a mess, believe me. You even fear them more than robbers. My experience was back in 2002 I was driving to MMIA to catch a flight to Frankfurt when I was stopped by the police...I was like yes..wetin happen". he started his nonsense and then one of them coming from Behind looked and saw an NBA sticker...he was like ha! oga gani...carry go" so they only got scared cos they saw The Nigerian Bar Association sticker. What I want to draw from this is that, they would fear your access to information...knowing your rights..do not offer money people! and should u be a passerby...go over and ask whats going on here.....someone is got to challange the status quo.... I'm coming to Nigeria this year again and I look forward to nothing to a police man stoping me to talk nonsense. same reason why I'm gonna be sure my license is good to go and be abreast with lagos state motor vehicle regulation laws.So together we can do something...hey, legal remedies are a way to go, so please do go ahead with that.We can't altogether give up on nigerian legal system. We'll get there. |
Its a scam......there are a bunch of them out there, doing nothing but further ruining the already battered Nigerian image at the international fora. Please, friends of Nigeria who come in here, do beware, its a russ, a scam carried out by miscreants. |
pluto for real...I didn't. I watch guys do it.....but you know, I was a class act, so I could not be caught doing aro....though I kinda enjoyed seeing other kids do it. |
hey...I did stayed for a little bit on BLK 1 but never did aro...i use to love seeing other kids do it, but not me for real...I kid you not...I didn't do it. Did I see you mention Iya rasaki?, that my spot after I moved to quaters, I lived on road 7B circle...iya rasko! The first Yoruba language I learn was " iyan gbono uwa oh"...did anyone lived in faj?....remember on shot guy who repairs shoes.....called agba akin...use to do yats..yats....heheh like when he sees a girl, he goes.."yats..yator lani ooh ooma!". now I have a friend who was really into this...when u take that shutcut from faj to sports. |
yea yea...its the Nigerian thing, but its no doubt a shame.I have had a few experience myself. I would not want to go through the crisis of comparing the american courier service with that of our blessed nation, but come to think of it again, who is spoiling Nigeria? its Nigerians, the guy who at the customs or NDLEA or NIPOST who opens other person's percel and takes stuff out of it. The fictitious thrumped up charges levied by governmental agencies in Nigeria, I mean charges that have no legislative authorization. All these are done my Nigerians, its just sad. Hear an experience, two years ago I sent packages to Nigeria and one to The American embassy. They took money from my family under made up custom charges, but when the got to the embassy, they could not, cos the Oyibo fella there said never, the charge was unwarranted. They left without contesting his claim. When I called he said, " your kins men try to scam me off my hard earned dollar". I once sent camera cell phone a few years ago, it never got there. Though I had sent a huge package few years back and it got there safely, you just never know when that one bad guy would be on duty to fool around with your stuff. please let us pray for us all in Nigeria, we do need a reorientation as to value and culture. |
pluto...greatest Awoit....the fence story was typical...I have seen a few like that. I remembered in 94 we were in the room, block 2 or 3 room 89. and this kid came begging for water, then my roomate said.." why won't you go at least get ur own water downstairs....see, there is water in blk 1 and if u go to the tank at the bank u will get water, its always good to have ur own water...." he was still going on when the guy interjected, " see, i no come hear for sermon...na water I ask for, if I need sermon I go go all souls ok?" he said it in such a way that we all laughed. |
yea I lived in awo too in 94/95 session,it was a mess.I mean a rather fun kinda mess.never stayed angola, but had friends who did. I remember those burgers,oh boy!, I never touch those now, but back then, it was a luxury kinda food, thats why its called risky burger. If you stay on them you go down on budget. I just love to relive those memories. |
I think this is cool..thanks to the kid from Covenant University who made the first post. Primary School...................Ethiope Primary school Okirikwe... sec. school.........................Okpe Grammer school College................................Great Ife...OAU. graduate...........................Great BU... boston University I'll be more than excited to see anyone from my primary school. would be nice. It was a really really rugged start for me...but I made it thru to Great Ife and its all been good trust God for that. I know I did not include the state, but with that name, anyone who is been there would know whats up. |
I haven't listen to the CD, but from the lyrics posted, if Owoh lends credence to 419scam as a game, then its become a shame. I mean one that is looked up to by the growing youth as an icon to be emulated. The crisis of thieving Nigerians at the international scene is a pain. Not saying that the guy who thinks he could fraudulent get an oil lifting lisence for 20 thousand usd is to be applauded. Our name as a nation is been associated with scam, give or take, its not a game, at all.Bank of america now offer a course to its new staff on Nigerian scam. go figure! |
This is very scandalous,I mean its a huge pity.I just can't figure it out.I once told a friend that, the problem isn't Nigeria, its Nigerians, we all need a huge cultural re-orientation.values are like deeply lost.with regards to education, I will not hesitate to pointifificate the fact that, there are very smart and excellent kids from Nigeria, and with joy and grace I'll tell you that, I'm one.I had attended interviews and my interviewers would be like, jezz, you're very smart.one wished she had send her kid to law school in Nigeria, you could imagine how impressed she was.As stated by one of the contribuctors to this post, its rather sad to posite the image of a nigerian student like one who would hire some folk back at home to write a paper for him/her. now isn't that insane? by all means it is. The fact is, there are nigerians would could go to college and cheat their way through it.The system is failing and falling at thesame time, but I think a few of us could do something about it at the least in our own small way. |
yea...thanks for the inpute, sure the money would be spent, but the agressive nature is just has become a life style.I had visited most recently too and I'm going again soon. It just scares me to see the way people react when it comes to money and wanting to just collect from you, I mean no more value. Its this drive that has driven some folks into robbery and other social vice. Yes I know three people killed in Nigeria because they sorta lived well. you know of the last year's case of Obasanjo's daughter's friend or cousin who came into Nigeria from the UK or US and was murdered...sure you read about that.No doubt, it depends on the circle you ride with.Even before coming to the states, I was pretty careful because i slightly became a target, was almost robbed at about 5am in Ikeja, sure you could be robbed in New york, that does't bother me, I'm concerned with Nigeria and I wonder how we could really begin to make an accountable positive impact |
I think we all grabed it right away when shiloh was refered to as a bomb, so that polemics was uncalled for. Those who witness that event or read about it,would all agree that the impact was indeed a bomb, spiritually or even physically. The turnout was like no other gathering of its kind.bomb or no bomb it was and its always awesome. |
Seun, not sure if that assertion was posited, that Nigeria is a bad place.granted its bad, its not the worst>my concern at this point is the attitude of most Nigerians.I remember quite well that in the early 80s Ibos were harshly stigmatized as being a greedy and money desparate, today, the entire nation seem to carry that aura. Its not Nigeria that makes up Nigeria, its Nigerians.I think this could be a forum to intellectualize issues as to this nature of dog eat dog and the subsequent attack on us visiting. Its not good argument to say, stay where you are and it would be good for us and for you, nah, not like that.we'll work it out and see it gets better. |
hey lagbaja...you're a true great Ife.what year did you got in to Ife?...I'm 95. Let see if we had any close experience, like the abduction of Wale Omole or the Tony Fash Alutas...lets share. |
You could make it anywhere, home or abroad. We all at one point ran to lagos after secondary school, right? ask yourself again, why was that?well keep the answer to yourself. You would not leave university and return to osogbo or Ikire or ughelli to look for job as a lawyer, would you? i guess not. However, that was where Nigeria's crisis started from. Even those who studied agric. left the villages where the farm land is for lagos and PH and abuja. same way doctors, lawyers and engineers, i mean big brains, even our collehe professors and leaving for the UK and americas. There is a kid I knew back then, I can attest that this kid is one of the finest brain OAU medical school even hard since its inception.now he wants to go to the states...I promise to help him and I would.can I refuse him, because I want him to not be drained from nigeria? sure not, he is got a mom and 4 other siblings to care and as a young medical practitioner in nigeria, he may end up being a reproach to his family, cos when he can't meet their demands, they would wonder if they had wasted the money borrowed to send him to Ife. Again, you could suffer in america as well as suffer in Nigeria, its not the location, its the locator. There are american who can't house themselve.I mean not even a dollar to buy a dunnut, ok I mean beggers.A nigerian could be rich here as well as back at home, could be bleeped up here as well as back at home, as stated by a few, the chances are better here. My only concern is that, there be a few Nigerian who would someday gather all they have learned overseas and try to better motherland, its not about going back with big cars or all that stupid display of deception. I have seen Nigerian here who feed white people and house them.I do not lend credence to Nigerians who also think the country is HELL and must be jettisoned as a matter of urgency. Just as you would leave Ife or Akure for lagos, you could leave benin or ilesa for california or bristol.Just stay in the faith and love God,DONE. |
its funny, though its happening, those photographs are fictitious. The names made up and there is not even a story to it, in anycase, its a good pictoral presentation to drive home the point what immigrants have to go through to live in foreign lands. |
Visiting Motherland: security measures, how so? I found this an intriquing avenue to voice out my concern with visiting Nigeria after being away for quite some time now.The point here is how secured is it. Lagos, a major city in Nigeria, is rated one of the most dangerous place to live or visit. I'm not asking for people's opinion on this because I know so. My only concern is, how could one enjoy a three week visit without being mugged by area boys or even your old friends. I'm not going to bewail the Nigerian economic situation here. That's already established. I have hundreds of rhetorical questions to ask, where is the morals, values and all that. Everyone wants to take money from you: give give give. Even your siblings would try to scam you out of money. Why is everyone so desperate? It kills me. Don't want anyone to try to rubbish me on this subject because I have a handful of instances to cite here. Brothers would arrange their friends to come attack you. Girls would try to scam you and all that vice. Now I'm thinking its safer to come quietly and silently leave. A friend told me, " if you go to Nigeria driving this kind of car you drive here, you'll be killed a two weeks". Not saying there are no cars better than mine in Nigeria, but the fact that, one is from the US or london, shocking gives an impression that, you're rich and have lots of money. Or maybe you did not work for the money. I don't get it. Had a few people who went and vowed never to go back again. Please help me here, what's the way out? We love Nigeria and wants to be treated equally when we come visiting or retired. |
Sade, I can't help but say that, you finished it!You're a true great Ife. I mean, living in America, there aren't many great Ifes' around. As a matter of fact the Alumni is far away in the western part of america, but once again, it crowded by people who left Ife in the 70s, c'mmon, that was Uni Ife, not OAU,they had their own kinda glory we experienced a different one in some respect.Say, pharmacy, now when I say pharmacy, you know, I'm not talking about the dept, hell no!. I'm talking about the rinky dinky ramshakled restaurant there, please give it up for them. How about Iya Egin at the old buka?...c'mon now...and forks and finger(though I wasn't a huge fan)and those slightly classy dineInns at the new buka, I mean those on ur left hand side.Greatest Ife,greeeaat!!!! |
This is just so nice...I actually was looking online for the alumni in the USA.I'll tell you what? there is no feeling like the nostalgia one gets from thinking about your days in Ife. |
