ROSSIKE: You were WHERE? Dunce. Don't you know the airport has been undergoing remodeling for two years and that passengers have been restricted from most areas owing to the work? Didn't you read the signs everywhere stating the place was under remodeling and for people to bear the inconvenience? No. You were too busy feeling pompous and better than everyone else. Wastrel.

Shut up your dirty stinking mouth you wastrel. NAME THOSE NIGERIA'S NEIGHBOURS LET US SEE. Name them. When last did you visit them? Where and where did you visit in those countries? What is there? Is it Ghana or is it Togo? Is it Sierra Leone? Outside their capitals, what is in those countries? NOTHING.. I have travelled and traversed the world even before you were born, you lousy little kid born yesterday and feeling funky.

There is NOTHING you have seen on this earth that I have not seen TEN TIMES MORE OF THAN YOU. Nigeria is a developing nation. Get that into your thick skull. You cannot expect its facilities to look like those in Germany or Canada. You are so stup.id you don't even bother calculating the GDP of those countries you expect Nigeria to be mirror images of, nor do you calculate their history, economics, socio-political evolution or anything. Just a stup.id, short sighted TOAD with no common sense who thinks development falls from the sky like manna. Like I said GET OUT OF NIGERIA AND STAY OUT. You are NOT needed.

We will get where we are going, but not with imbecil.es like you who see their fellow Nigerians sweating and building up the country while you loaf around doing fckall and ignoring/scoffing at their efforts. Worthless idio.t. I will continue to abuse you until you find it in your wretched, ignorant, ungrateful bugger self to COMMEND the ongoing work at our airports. Nasty wastrel.
Stop talking like a fooool, mor0n. what do you mean there is nothing in Ghana? and what is there in sh1tnigeria, apart from crime and killings, boko haram etc? utter crap!

boron10: While we export products like Crude oil, Cement and textile materials, our Ghanaian brothers are busy looking for cocoa beans to pick in the bush for export. grin grin grin
well, I can only say thank God you are not a Ghanaian. because this is the most senseless, stvpid, absurd and unintelligent statement I've read so far. so let me ask you. what have you done with all the crude oil, cement and textile? how come your country is a sh1thole?

now, let me ofer you a bit of free education, I normally charge a hefty fee for this. the crude oil you wrote about, do you know how it comes out of the ground and turns into cash for your sh1thole? oil exploration and production is still carried out in your country by foreign companies such as shell, chevron.ExxonMobil, Eni etc. these are foreign companies, not nigerian -owned. We all know the only reason the nigerian upstream oil industry has not collapsed so far is because it is run by foreigners, huh? ifs you want to know how oil exploration and production would have fared under nigerian operation look at your refineries. these were facilkities run by nigerians and you know what happened to the refineries, huh?

regarding textiles, you probably don't know there is virtually no textile industry in sh1tnigeria any more, huh? your old dilapidated plants, mostly in Kaduna can't compete with chinese imports. cement; what is there to boast about in cement? nigeria still imports cement and dangote is busy screwing you mumus. cement is far cheaper in Ghana todsay than in your sh1thole. go fsinds out why this is so, ediot. such an ill-informed f00l grin

and we don't look for cocoa in the bush. our hard working farmers cultivate and harvest about one million tonnes of cocoa every year. nigerian produces how many? and what happened to your groundnut pyramid of the 1950s and 60s? I doubt if you IQ is up to 5 sef. you are very very shallow. and you know I made this observation long time ago, huh? your posts lack any element of basic intelligence, walahi grin grin grin

Nigerian rapist: criminals who evade deportation grin
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/immigration/8777637/Nigerian-rapist-criminals-who-evade-deportation.html
A Nigerian rapist cannot be deported from Britain because a legal fight to remove him took so long he has developed a “life” here, European judges ruled. Here are other criminals who have not been deported because of their human rights.

:: Nepalese criminal Rocky Gurung was allowed to the stay in the UK despite killing the son of a Gurkha solider. Gurung was convicted of the manslaughter and jailed for three years after he and a gang of friends threw Bishal Gurung, no relation, in to the River Thames. An immigration tribunal later ruled deporting him would breach his right to a family life, despite the fact he was single and had no children. It was based on the fact his parents are here.

“Nigeria leads the world in criminal enterprises” – US journalist showers insults on Nigerians grin grin grin grin
http://www.africanspotlight.com/2013/11/14/nigeria-leads-the-world-in-criminal-enterprises-us-journalist-showers-insults-on-nigerians/

A US journalist has hurled a series of insults on Nigerians, just weeks after a US Senator Ted Cruz described Nigerians as scammers in a bid to mock Obamacare website. Ann Coulter in an article titled, ‘To speak to a Nigerian Prince about your healthcare, press ’1′ now,’ says criminals are running the Obamacare website and most of them are inmates and Nigerians. Read excerpts below…

This week we found out that the tens of thousands of “navigators” hired by the government to enroll people in Obamacare will include convicted felons.

Despite some “navigators” having already been exposed as having arrest warrants against them, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has no plans to screen out the criminals.

The problem isn’t their complexion, it’s their culture. In America, we think only dumb people become criminals. That’s not true in the Third World!

Nigeria, for example, leads the world in criminal enterprises. Every level of Nigerian society is criminal, with the smart ones running Internet scams, the mid-range ones running car theft rings, and the stupid ones engaging in piracy and kidnapping. At the University of Lagos, you can major in credit card fraud.

There were almost no Nigerians in the United States until the 1970s. Today, there are nearly 250,000 Nigerians in the U.S. (committing the cyber-crime Americans just won’t do!). In 2011, we took in more immigrants from Nigeria than from the United Kingdom (9,246 from the U.K. and 9,344 from Nigeria).

Gosh, I sure hope our new Somali and Nigerian immigrants have German-style rectitude and are very honest about reporting all their income to the government.

Forty (40) Percent of Nigerians in the US Are Criminals - CNN Report grin grin grin grin grin grin
Written by The Punch
http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/newsflash/forty-40-percent-of-nigerians-in-the-us-are-criminals-cnn-report.html

Nigerians in North America have rejected a recent report by the Cable Network News, claiming that 40 per cent of Nigerians in the United States of America were criminals. The Nigerians, operating under the All Nigerian-American Congress, said such stereotyping of Nigerians did not reflect the true situation of Nigerians in the US.

The group’s position on the documentary, “How to rob a bank”, was made known in an e-mail sent to our correspondent on Thursday. The mail, jointly signed by the ANAC’s Chairman, Information and Public Affairs, Mr Paul Oranika, and President, Chief Temitope Ajayi, described the report as false and typical of biased reporting of African issues by the western media.

The group’s position was reached at a national tele-conference organised by ANAC soon after the programe was aired between May 20 and 21. It regretted that the western media refused to see anything good in Africans, but would look for ways to portray them in bad light.

The group said, “ Historically, the western news media focus on negative news when it comes to news coverage of Africa and its people. Such issues as war, famine, hunger, genocide, natural disaster, disease, fraud and mismanagement remain the sole focus of news coverage of Africa and its people.

“What is baffling is that the African community in North America has been content in allowing the western media to define them to the world through these negative news reports.

“In addition African embassies and consulates have failed to take leadership position in challenging some of the false and negative coverage given to Africa and its people.”

Hoodlums may take over Nigeria – Afenifere
on DECEMBER 13, 2012 • in NEWS
9:11 am

BY DAYO JOHNSON

AKURE—AFENIFERE, a pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Wednesday, challenged President Goodluck Jonathan to rise and act fast to stem the spate of insecurity and the wanton destruction of lives and property or face the possibility of hoodlums completely taking over the country.

Secretary-General of the group, Bashorun Seinde Arogbofa, said the rate at which kidnappers abduct prominent Nigerians and the Boko Haram menace had not only put the lives of people at risk, but also scared away prospective investors.

Arogbofa listed the recent abduction of the mother of Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the wife of former Governor of Western Region, Gen. Oluwole Rotimi (rtd), as examples, which had brought bad publicity to the country.

According to him, “nobody is any longer safe in the country. Just a few days ago, it was the elderly Prof (Mrs) Okonjo that was kidnapped; only yesterday it was the wife of Gen. Oluwole Rotimi, former governor of Western Region.

“In the Northern part of the country, the Boko Haram is in charge and kills with reckless abandon.”

Nigerian 'baby factories' bring profits and pain grin
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2013/09/08/nigerian-baby-factories-bring-profits-and-pain/

The proprietor of Nigeria's Moonlight Maternity Clinic was not interested in discussing allegations that he sells newborn babies, with boys fetching higher prices than the girls.

"I have nothing to say to you," Ben Akpudache, a stout 74-yeard-old, told AFP at the small, dimly lit clinic with concrete floors tucked between commercial shops in the southeastern city of Enugu.

"I can't just have people coming in and asking questions."

"Doctor" Akpudache, whose medical credentials are under question, had his clinic raided in July after a three-month sting operation in which the security forces discovered a so-called baby factory grin.

"We had our people posing as if they wanted to buy a child," Nigeria's Civil Defence Corps (NCDC) spokesman Denny Iwuckukwu told AFP.

Police had separately stormed his home in May, where they discovered that babies were also for sale.

The "factories" are usually small facilities parading as private medical clinics that house pregnant women and offer their children for sale. In some cases, young women have allegedly been held against their will and raped, with their newborns sold on the black market. grin grin grin

But security services say the majority of cases, including that of the Moonlight clinic, have seen unmarried women with unplanned pregnancies arrive voluntarily or through persuasion.

Their newborns are then sold for several thousand dollars, with boys fetching higher prices. The mother receives roughly $200 (150 euros).

Typical was Ebere Onwuchekwa, 29, who became emotional when asked about the sale of her son Prosper.

Speaking at the office of a child rights NGO, she said the father demanded she get an abortion, illegal in Nigeria, and she refused. Her mother ultimately brought in a "midwife", who delivered the baby then sold him for $1500.

"She took him away... He was a day old," said Onwuchekwa.

After learning what happened, her uncles tracked Prosper down and got him back. The 18-month-old sat quietly on his mother's lap as she spoke.

When asked about the woman who sold her son, a resentful Onwuchekwa said "she doesn't want me to say anything about what happened".

As for Akpudache, he is out on bail and his facility, which he insisted in a brief, tense encounter was a "registered maternity clinic", remains opens.

Authorities said it was not been shut down because they were waiting for the courts to take action, though the NCDC spokesman insisted Akpudache would face justice.

"Human beings should not be sold like animals," said Iwuckukwu.

When police stormed Akpudache's expansive, three-storey home in Ogui Eke village, roughly an hour outside Enugu, they found six pregnant young women.

In a video provided to AFP by the Enugu police, one of the women said she wanted to continue studying, not struggle as a single mother. Akpudache's offer to host her through the pregnancy then sell the newborn seemed a solution.

In the same video, Akpudache said he was just trying to "help people in need".

Despite a 2003 law against human trafficking, including selling children, it is Nigeria's third most common crime behind fraud and drug trafficking, the United Nations has said. The European Union has cited Nigeria as the African country where the scourge is most common.

The maximum sentence is life in prison but sentencing remains at the judges' discretion and offenders can get away with just a fine.

Baby trafficking, in particular, has intensified in the southeast, which is populated mainly by the Igbo ethnic group. The NCDC has several ongoing undercover operations targeting suspected baby trafficking rings in Enugu, underscoring the severity of the problem in this region.

The reasons given for why this "baby" market has developed here vary widely.

Some fear newborns are being sold to witchdoctors for rituals in a country where occult practices still occur. Some say fraudsters in the region had simply found another reliable way to earn cash.

But the security forces and activists said the majority of buyers are likely married couples struggling to conceive.

Oby Nwankwo, who spent years as a magistrates court judge in the southeast, said Igbo customs that place huge importance on male children may also play a role.

Widows and daughters have faced massive obstacles when trying to inherit family resources after the death of a patriarch, explained Nwankwo, also a member of a UN committee on discrimination against women (CEDAW).

The Toilet Named Nigeria grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin roforoforofo sh1tnigeria paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa grin

http://washafrica./2011/07/12/the-toilet-named-nigeria/

In his latest column, government critic and Professor of Creative Writing at Trinity College (USA) Okey Ndibe, voices his disgust at the practice of open defecation in his homeland Nigeria.

If you want to gauge how badly Nigerians have been animalized, then pay attention to how, and where, many of them defecate. Just recently, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reported that 33 million Nigerians have no access to decent toilets. As a consequence, said the report, these citizens of Africa’s most populous nation answer the call of nature in the open.

Is it really only 33 million Nigerians? One is afraid that here’s one occasion when statisticians have pegged the figure too low. Nigeria – as I wrote three years ago – may be described as one vast toilet. Anybody who has traveled from Lagos to Onitsha by road knows that there isn’t one single rest area with toilet facilities along the route. At stops in Ore or Benin City, pressed passengers must hurry off into the brushes, gingerly skating around others’ feces, in order to relieve themselves.

In Ndibe’s eyes the “habit of doing in public what ought to be done in private” points to a deep cultural crisis.

Long habituated to inhuman conditions, many Nigerians have ceased noticing those peeing or defecating in the open. Or, when we notice, too many of us have lost our sense of outrage at the oddity. Public acts of pissing and defecation have become – more or less – normal, part and parcel of our social experience and landscape.

The associated health risks of Nigeria’s insanitary conditions have made Ndibe feel uneasy about shaking hands.

For me, it’s often a dilemma. I know how scandalous it would be to refuse to offer one’s hand. Yet, I can’t help wondering where the hands I shake have been, and whether they’ve been washed.

Ndibe retells an revealing anecdote about local government staff who staunchly opposed a plan to build staff toilets. They told the local government administrator to “just give them a share of the public funds – and to leave it up to them to decide on toilet matters”.

Tough Times: Nigerians Flee To Ghana, Vietnam grin

Our correspondents
February 15th, 2009
More Nigerians are fleeing to countries like Ghana and Vietnam to escape the harsh economic realities back home grin, even as some big businesses are gradually folding up and relocating. LEADERSHIP SUNDAY learnt that Nigerians now seek refuge in far-flung countries hitherto not considered as lands of "green pasture". Countries like Vietnam, Mozambique, Ethiopia and China are fast replacing the traditionally favorites like the United Kingdom, Libya and the USA. Most of the people leaving are pointing to the lack of electricity and insecurity as the cause of their exodus. Those abroad are also vowing that they won’t return home until conditions become better.

Godwin Ukwu (not real name) told our correspondents that he has finished all arrangements to relocate next month. Ukwu said his friends are "making it" in Cameroon and have asked him to join them there. He said: "I’m going to Cameroon to sell beer. My friends are there and they are making it big in their various business. In fact, last Christmas, some of them came home and told us that we are suffering here. For instance, transportation is such a huge problem there. In fact their roads are better than the ones in the East. Besides, my business is suffering as there is no light. Customers will come and they can’t drink my beer because it is not chilled. So, I’m losing customers and business is bad."

Another respondent told our reporters that if he has his way, he would flee the country. Speaking to LEADERSHIP SUNDAY, the man who gave his name as John said that Nigeria has become "hell" for him. John is a graduate of six years and has remained unemployed. According to him, every attempt to get a government or private job has failed. He said: "if I have the opportunity, I would leave this country. In fact, in looking for people who would tell me how to get to Libya. At least, I will get a job and my life would be safer," he said.

Like most unemployed youngsters in the country, John has tried to be self employed. He said: "my uncle gave me some money recently to start something. So I got a corner shop at Kubwa (In Abuja) to start a barbing salon. Right now, the place has been demolished and I’m looking for another place, but even if I get a place, what about light and water? Through the time I had the saloon, it was generator that powered the business and that is very expensive. Even with the generator some weeks, I will have nothing doing because of fuel scarcity. I really want to leave. I love my country but I can’t go on like this," he lamented.

LEADERSSHIP SUNDAY check shows that influx of Nigerians into Ghana doubled after the Presidential election that ushered in a new government there. A Nigerian living in Ghana told correspondents that many of his relatives are pestering him to get them accommodation in Ghana. He said: "I’m amazed at how Nigerians are moving into Ghana these days. You know, in the past it was as if we were stupid leaving here for Ghana, but see what is happening. Each day we see Nigerians trooping in their droves."

The Ghana resident, who spoke anonymously, gave reasons why Ghana is becoming attractive: "the truth is that the society works. In Ghana, there is orderliness, not the chaos you have here. There is constant light and this is important for living. There is also security and respect for human rights. If you ask me it is the turn of Nigerians to run to Ghana like the Ghanaians did in the 80’s. Many Nigerians are in Ghana today, intermarrying and looking for ways to become citizens. I don’t think they would want to return unless conditions change in Nigeria," he said.
A source in Vietnam, told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY that the Vietnamese government is trying to restrict the influx of Nigerians into the country because of the huge number running there.

Libya too has not lost its appeal to Nigerians. In spite of the precarious route, Nigerians daily put their lives on the line to cross over. The journey, mostly done by foot, find Nigerians crossing the Sahara, risking arrest and deadly attacks by patrol team to get to Tripoli, the capital of Libya. Says an official of a prominent government agency concerned with human trafficking, who do not want to be mentioned, " most of the travelers are girls going to engage in prostitution. The men are often their pimps. And no matter the campaign our office is making, the truth is that the rush is still on. We can arrest them or even sensitize them, but what is clear to us is that this is an ongoing war. Sex slaves are still been trafficked abroad. Our agency is helping to stave it off. But no one should be deceived, human trafficking is not going to go away in a long time. The harsh conditions here, coupled with the lure of greener pasture is just too much temptation for many of the girls and their manager to bear. The arrest and pains they suffer during the trips is a little sacrifice they make."

An emerging trend also is that of businesses folding up. Dunlop, for instance has folded up and may be relocating to Ghana. Part of the reason for the relocation is the unstable power supply in Nigeria. Checks show s that many businesses are already rethinking their continued stay in the country. South Africa and Ethiopia appear more appealing to such big businesses. Already, major stakeholders in tourism and hospitality business are looking downwards to South Africa- a country getting ready to host the world cup in 2010.

NIGERIANS ARE THE WORST FOOLS ON EARTH- BIAFRAN RADIO grin grin grin

Why Nigerians are the worst fools on earth grin grin grin

Umaru Dikko the former Aviation Minister under the administration of Shehu Shagari in the second republic is the arch looter and an extraordinary criminal of international repute. He singlehandedly put Nigeria on the map in the league of African treasury robbers.

This exclusive club of African thieving monkeys that specialise in the wholesale stealing of public money has within its ranks Mobutu Sese Seko Kuku Ngbendu wa Za Banga of Congo, Samuel Doe of Liberia, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema of Equatorial Guinea, Mr Adisa Akinloye then NPN National Chairman of Nihgeria, General Ibrahim Babangida of Nigeria, General Sanni Abacha of Nigeria, Chief Obafemi Awolowo of Nigeria, Félix Houphouët-Boigny of Ivory Coast amongst many others.

These men and their likes are responsible for the catalogue of cataclysmic social catastrophe afflicting the hopeless inhabitants of their respective countries. They did more damage than the combined might of Western colonialisation, First World War, Second World War, cholera, chicken pox, small pox and HIV put together.

That President Goodluck Jonathan and his PDP sunk so low to give Umaru Dikko what amounts to public appointment confirms what the rest of the world have always known that Nigerians are indeed gullible fools incapable of reason.

It is with utter incredulity that the few people left with their faculties intact in the Zoological Republic of Nigeria greeted the news that the disgrace that calls itself The Peoples Democratic Party announced the composition of its national disciplinary committee with this looter of looters, the notorious Alhaji Umaru Dikko, of the 'billionaire in a crate' fame as chairman of the panel.

NIGERIAN NO LONGER MUMUDON, BUT EVILDOM grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
http://chatafrik.com/articles/nigerian-affairs/nigeria-is-not-mumudom-but-evildom

This essay is in response to Okey Ndibe’s essay calling Nigerians mumu and calling the country Mumudom. Mumu implies that one is a fool that others take advantage of. Nigerians are not fools, Mumu and no one is taking advantage of them. Nigerians choose to do the wrong things rather than the right things. The right name for Nigeria is Evildom grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin!

Last night, at around 2AM, actually, I read an article by Okey Ndibe in which he characterized Nigerians as Mumu and called their country a kingdom of mumus hence mumudom. I laughed until I feared waking those sleeping in my house and restrained myself.

Mr. Ndibe’s argument is that Nigerians are party to the abuse of their leaders. He carefully described how ordinary Nigerians allow their leaders to turn the country into a kleptocracy, a place where the leaders are elected to steal from the people. His point is that if the people had stood up and opposed their thievish leaders that Nigeria would not be the empire of thieves it is today.

Apparently, Nigerians are afraid of harm and death and when they try to oppose the criminal gang ruling them some of them disappear and fear of experiencing similar fate disposes the many to keep quiet as the bandits at Abuja rob the country down.

Mr. Ndibe supposes that given Nigerians ready acquiescence to being robbed that the criminal roadshow would go on until there is no longer something to rob. He feels that until oil wells dry up and there is no money to pay military goon squads to subdue the people that the highway robbers at Abuja would keep doing their thing. In other words, Nigerians would not be freed from their gangster rulers until the gangsters no longer have money to pay goons squads to corral the people and keep them in line.

An empty treasury is the only hope for ridding Nigeria of her criminal leaders! Left to their own devices Nigerians cannot have an honest government.

What an indictment of his fellow countrymen, I thought.

Ndibe’s essay made sense to me. Thus, all day today I thought about it. The more I think about it the more I realized that he is mistaken. Thus, this evening I decided to correct his mistake hence this essay.

The term mumu implies a simpleton who is easily taken advantage of by others; a person so trusting that unscrupulous persons hoodwink him. Is this what Nigerians are?

Could anyone ever call Nigerians fools? I do not think so. All Nigerians have PhDs in how to steal; they are all ingenious in figuring out ways to swindle other persons. grin Take a look at their 419 scams relieving Westerners millions of dollars yearly; their Social Security number scams (they use your social security number to obtain credit cards and use the money to live well and in the meantime have spoiled your credit); their bank scams (they borrow money from banks and vamoose with it).

Just think of any type of scam going on in America and Nigerians are involved in it grin. They are never found in anything that calls for sacrificing ones time and energy for the good of other people; indeed, if you do so they would call you a Mumu.

I used to go to jails and prisons on weekends to provide our brothers in prisons with free counseling and run group therapies for them. Usually, black folks cannot afford to see psychotherapists and the only psychological treatments they get is when their black asses are filled with psychotropic medications that eventually damage their livers and kidneys and kill them. Well, when some Nigerians realized how I spent my weekends they asked me how much I was getting paid and I said nothing and they called me Mumu and mugu, a fool. You see, in their world you do not seek ways to serve the public; to be smart is to steal from the public. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Anyway, the more I think about Mr. Ndibe’s characterization of Nigerians as Mumu and their country as Mumudom the more I disagree with him. Nigerians are no one’s fools. In fact, they are the ones fooling people.

The appropriate term characterizing Nigerians is evil. Nigerians are evil people; their country is a country of evil people and is appropriately called Evildom. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin chei ma belle laugh dey tear ma bell so taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay grin grin grin

Nigerians do not lack the knowledge of what is right or wrong; they simply do not want to do the right thing. They want to be evil, period. They turned their country into a hell of bribery and corruption not because they do not know that those are not good for the development of their country but because they are evil souls.

Before we proceed, let me quickly tell you that I totally reject the social science paradigm that tells people that they are victims of their environment. You see, Liberal white social scientists came to Africa and told Africans that they are victims of colonialism and neocolonialism and that the white man oppressed them. Liberals told Africans that they are where they are because of what white folks did to them.

Africans problems are attributed to white men. That is what social science teaches and Africans swallowed that nonsense whole and stinker and now see themselves as the victims of white men.

Even as Nigerian leaders like Babangida, Abacha, Obasanjo and Jonathan transformed their offices to avenues from which they became rich while doing nothing for average Nigerians grin, white liberals tell average Nigerians that the reason why they are suffering is because of white colonialism. It is not black folk’s fault that they live in poverty; it is the white man’s fault.

Food stampede kills 20 in Nigeria grin grin

This is the third time in the past four years that a stampede occurred in the state while distributing food, money and local fabrics among residents. grin

Up to 20 people have been reportedly killed and many injured in a stampede during an annual event to distribute food and gifts to poor people in central Nigeria.

Witnesses said that the stampede occurred during the event held by the ruling People Democratic Party (PDP) near the home of Nigerian Senator Bukola Saraki in Ilorin, the capital city of the central Kwara state.

Medics at Sobi Specialist Hospital confirmed to Anadolu Agency that they counted up to 20 fatalities brought from the Ile Loke, the political courtyard of Senator Saraki.

This is the third time in the past four years that a stampede occurred in the state while distributing food, money and local fabrics among residents.

"The figure being reported falls far short of the reality," Muhyideen Abubakar, who attended the event, told AA.

"I counted up to 20 people who died. That is besides the many who were taken to hospitals. Some of them have been confirmed dead and some remain in critical condition."

But PDP spokesman Masiud Adebimpe insisted that only four people died in the stampede.

"We regret that four of our party members died in the stampede while those injured are being treated in the hospital," he told AA.

A source said the stampede occurred on Wednesday night through Thursday morning but "the Sarakis and the government have tried to suppress it in the media or play down the figures."

"The deaths have become an annual ritual here," the source told AA on condition of anonymity.

"Many years ago, it happened, it then stopped and then resumed in the past four years. Tongues are waggling but what can we do? We are helpless but God is most powerful and all knowing."

Senator Saraki's leadership is disputed by many opposition politicians and intellectuals who accuse the Saraki family - whose patriarch Olusola Saraki died last year after 40 years of dictating the state politics - of running patronage political system that thrives based on giving handouts to the poor masses while leaving the state underdeveloped.
Kwara politics is known nationwide to be strange and peculiar with a family deciding its direction for years.

Kwara is among Nigeria's poorest states and is believed to rank among the lowest in terms of human capital potentials.

Women and youths often queue in the central state to collect money at the Saraki's place almost every other week in return for political allegiance to the political dynasty.
