The Rivers State Government has filed criminal charges against former Governor Chibuike Amaechi, Sahara Energy and Tonye Cole, the co-founder of Sahara Energy who is now the Governorship Candidate of the APC in Rivers State over the alleged N96Bn fraud from the sale of state assets.

Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike has directed the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to write a "strong protest letter" to the chairman of EFCC for the Commission to stop the "harassment" of the former Accountant General of Rivers State who is the PDP Guber Candidate in Rivers State, else the state will file for contempt of court orders against the commission are subsisting.

About 50 people have been confirmed de.ad after they were trampled upon in stampede that happened at Polo Club in Port Harcourt.

The stampede happened early hours of Saturday when a crowd of people forced their way into Polo Club in Port Harcourt where a church called, Kings Assembly was hosting an annual "Shop for free programme"

It was gathered that members of the public tried to force in their way through the gate as early as 6:30am even before the event started which resulted to the stampede that caused the deaths

The death toll is expected to rise as medics battle to save many who we're critically injured.

His Excellency, Governor. Nyesom Wike, Esq.,
Executive Governor of Rivers State, has Thursday, 19th August, 2021, assented five different Bills passed by Members of the 9th Rivers State House of Assembly, into Law.

They are:
1) Child's Right (Amendment) Law No. 2 of 2021.
2) Naming and Renaming of Infrastructure Law No. 3 of 2021.
3) Value Added Tax Law No. 4 of 2021.
4) Open Rearing Grazing (Prohibitions) Law No. 5 of 2021.
5) Residents' Registration Agency Law No. 6 of 2021.


He has maintained that the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt had sufficiently addressed the illegality perpetrated by the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) on behalf of the Federal Government in the collection of VAT in States.

The governor stated this at the Government House, Port Harcourt, shortly after signing into law on Thursday, the Valued Added Tax Law No. 4 of 2021; The Open Rearing and Grazing Prohibition Law No 5 of 2021; The Child's Rights Amendment Law No 2 of 2021; The Residents Registration Agency Law No 6 of 2021 and the Naming and Renaming of Infrastructure Law No3 of 2021.
The signed bills were recently passed by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The Rivers State Governor pointed out that when agencies of the Federal Government are allowed to illegally demand and collect taxes meant for states to collect, they strangulate the States financially and turn them to be beggars.
"But we (Rivers State) are standing on the part of history as representatives of the state to have taken the bull by the horn to challenge the illegality of the Federal Government through the Federal inland Revenue Services (FIRS).
"Of course, we are all aware that the states have already been strangulated. Most states depend on allocation from the federation account. States have been turned to beggars. Hardly will any day pass that you won't see one state or the other going to Abuja to beg for one fund or the other."
The governor said no campaign of calumny or blackmail on the part of FIRS will make what is illegal to become legal. He dismissed FIRS’ propaganda that 30 states will suffer if some states are allowed to collect VAT.

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says two major flyovers under construction at Rumuola and Government Residential Area (G.R.A) junctions in Port Harcourt, will be completed by the end of September - Port Harcourt Amebo Report

Governor Wike, during an unscheduled inspection of the Nkpolu -Oroworukwo, Rumuola, G.R.A flyovers and dualisation of Ezimgbu road in Port Harcourt on Monday, said no amount of money spent on projects that will impact positively on the well being of the people of the State will be regretted.

The governor, who spoke to journalists after the inspection, said the contractor handling the projects, Julius Bergers Plc has given assurance that Rumuola, G.R.A flyovers and the dualization of the Ezimgbu road and Tombia road extension will be completed by the end of September

“These four projects will be handed over to us latest by the end of September. And I have always said giving our people the best is uppermost in our mind. And no amount of money spent to give our people the best in life will be regretted.”

Reacting to this news, the son of the pastor has announced that despite the news been true, his mother is still the first wife and no divorce has been made.

Bright Ben said that his pastor has married his wife because the Holy Spirit told him to.

56 years old Pastor Olakada, a father of 6 children and a native of Agbochia in Eleme Local Government Area had been reported kidnapped on May 14, 2021 by four men who have now confessed to killing and burying him 10 days after his abduction.
The suspects also confessed to have killed the clergy despite receiving a ransom of N500k from his family.


The prime suspect, in an interview with journalists shortly after leading the police team to the shallow grave said they were never interested in abducting the clergy.
He disclosed they were only interested in the car the deceased was driving.
According to him, he and his gang members agreed and decided to kill the pastor because he recognised them so he doesn’t blow their cover.

Suspected cultists have reportedly stabbed a final year student of the University of Port Harcourt, hours after writing his final exams - Portharcourt_Amebo Report

According to the amebo we heard the incident happened at the Faculty of Science building on Tuesday, while the student was celebrating with some of his coursemates.

Our amebo group explained that the suspects stabbed the victim multiple times all beacuse he wore a T-shirt that was written "Viking" on it.

They said the attackers immediately fled the scene before the arrival of security operatives.

The school authority and the state police command are yet to comment on the incident.

The Rivers State Executive Council, on Monday, approved the shut down of the Oginiba slaughter market located at Trans-Amadi Industrial Layout in Obio-Akpor local government area.

The council at its meeting, that was presided over by Governor Nyesom Wike also directed a stop to all forms of trading activities in the abattoir.

Briefing journalists after the council meeting, Rivers state commissioner for agriculture, Fred Kpakol said a new project of government has been designated to be sited at that land hitherto hosting the abattoir.

Kpakol stated that all occupants and those doing businesses in the slaughter are advised to pack out of the premise within the next one month.

"The slaughter in Trans-Amadi, Port Harcourt has now been permanently closed down and all trading activities have been directed to cease forthwith.

"A new project of government will be built at Trans-Amadi (slaughter) soonest. All occupants and those doing business in Slaughter at Trans-Amadi are hereby advised to pack out of that land and premises on or before one month as government intends to do a new project in that area," the commissioner said.

Additional 2.5billion was also released by the federal government for compensation to property owners along the road.

The Money We Are Spending On Rivers State Cannot Be Wasted - Governor Nyesom Wike

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the money his administration is spending on the Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease Diagnostic and Treatment Centre in the State is not a misplaced priority - Portharcourt_Amebo Report

The governor made the assertion on Thursday when he visited the project site at Rumuokuta in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, to inspect the progress of work done already.

Governor Wike said that no amount of money spent in putting in place facilities that will secure the health of all residents in the state will be considered a waste.

"I'm very happy that the money we have spent here is not a misplaced priority. The healthcare of our people is important to us.

"It will save the time people travel overseas for cancer treatment. I think it will be something every Nigerians will be happy with. Here will be like a tourist centre. It has helipad, and doctors' quarters. In case of emergency, they will fly in helicopter to this place and doctors who stay here will attend to them.”

The governor explained that the State government decided to build doctors’ quarters within the precincts of the Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease Diagnostic and Treatment Centre so that no doctor will claim he is unable to attend to patients timely, particularly in emergency situations, because of distance of where he stays to the hospital.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the pace of work done in view of the gigantic nature of the project and the difficult topography that requires massive piling.



"We have confidence in Julius Berger and having come here today, I think they are on schedule. We are happy with the level of work.

"It's not a job you must rush. They are taking their time to make sure they give the citizens of the state the best and to Nigerians in general.

"You knows it is a specialist hospital, the first of its kind in this country. We are quite comfortable and confident that by end of July 2022, they would have handed over this very important project to the State."

The Regional Manager of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, Juergen Fischer, said they are conscious of the promise they have made to the governor to deliver the project as agreed.

Already, he noted, the milestone achieved has surpassed what was initially expected because they have done ground piling and concluded the critical baseline underground structural work done.

“You can be sure that by the end of July as we promised his excellency, we will deliver this hospital. We are a little bit ahead of schedule even in the rainy season"
