New Benfica right-back Tyronne Ebuehi is reportedly unhappy with Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr for restriction to one match in the 2018 World Cup in Russia despite his form, a source has told our correspondent. Ebuehi, who has a Nigerian father and a Dutch mother, pledged his international future to Nigeria in 2017 after rejecting Rohr’s invite to play in the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifier against Algeria in Uyo on December 11, 2016. The 22-year-old Dutch-born, who is capable of playing at left-back or right-back, was a constant threat down the right channel as he burst into the final third when he came in for Brian Idowu in the 2-0 defeat of Iceland at Volgograd Arena on June 22. Many Nigerian fans were left fuming after Rohr ended the team’s 2-1 defeat by two-time world champions Argentina at the Saint Petersburg Stadium on Tuesday – to tumble out of the tournament – with Ebuehi idling away on the reserve bench. Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi ran Saint Petersburg-born left-back Idowu ragged – and eventually scored a splendid goal through the Amkar Perm star’s position after taking down a cracking pass from the deep by Ever Banega before beating Nigeria goalkeeper Francis Uzoho from a tight angle to open the scoring for Argentina. But the 64-year-old German coach defended his decision, insisting Idowu deserved to end the encounter. “Idowu was very solid in the team. He’s much better defensively and did very well against Messi. He has experience and can play on both sides of the flanks,” the former Bordeaux defence ace told reporters, “Ebuehi is a fantastic player offensively. He played well against Iceland but he is still very young and still learning. He will definitely improve defensively and become a very important player for the team in the future.” Our correspondent learnt Ebuehi allegedly boiled with anger as the Eagles, who were in pole position to go through, continued to make mistakes trying to defend deep and then hit the desperate Argies on the counterattack, instead of taking the game to them. Ebuehi, who joined Portuguese giants Benfica from Dutch club ADO Den Haag in May, was visibly angry as he stormed out of the dressing room into the Mixed Zone where he snubbed the journalists who requested interviews with him after the match. Sources also claimed that some of the players were not happy with Rohr’s instructions to launch attacks when the match was tied at 1-1 in the dying minutes, which was enough for them to go through as they were tired. La Albiceleste manager Jorge Sampaoli seized initiative by replacing veteran holding midfielder Enzo Perez with in-demand Boca Junior forward Cristian Pavon in the 62nd minute, and throwing out sloppy PSG winger Angle Di Maria for rugged Independiente midfielder Maximiliano Meza in the 73rd minute before sending on Sergio Aguero for Nicolas Tagliafico in the 81st minute as they probed for the winner to save his team from an embarrassing exit from Russia. http://punchng.com/ebuehi-other-players-unhappy-with-rohr/amp/ |
orisa37:Edo and Yoruba are one. She even get ondo tribal marks. Her full name is Funmi Iyamu. She is from yorubaland. Na dem full London like refugees. |
Litmus:I even thought you were even making sense until I read you last paragraph. |
Butterflyleo:Stop being a nitwit, your buhari is in power because of ethno-religious politics not because he is the best out 200 million people. You cannot change the rules in the middle of the game. You voted buhari because of ethno-religious sentiments, unfortunately the ethno-religious factor have come to stay in the Nigerian polity forever. It will remain until God helps Nigeria to divide so that the constituent parts of the lugardian artificial contraption can survive. We are not one. Stop deceiving yourself. |
Paperwhite:The truth is that buhari doesn't see the deaths as anything. He see the lost lives and spilled blood as part of statistics. Nothing more. |
Develop the ports in the Eastern coasts and decongest lagos. Aboki and yoromuslims say it will benefit the Igbo man so it must not happen. Well, keep congesting Lagos ports which has the smallest geographic landmass because you hate to see the East progress, the attendant carnage will be there to keep hitting you like reality. |
booqee:Who told you Buhari really cares about human lives. Trump would have posted the message directly from his tweeter handle. The deaths are just part of statistics for buhari, it doesn't move him a bit. |
The country is cursed beyond redemption it has blood suckers like buhari as rule. When the wicked rule, people suffer. |
This country is cursed beyond redemption. I just hope nobody connected to me in anyway was a victim. RIP to the dead |
No wonder Serbian FA keep protesting against the recognition of Kosovo football federation by FIFA. Kosovo FA has only partial recognition by FIFA. |
baum1:Name the hungry foreign-based players in the Nigerian team. Ighalo? Iheanacho? Mikel? Onazi? Name them. |
oooduancalmdown:The truth is not all African players are demotivated when earn huge pays in Europe. But the World cup is not a tournament only professionals but for even hungry amateurs too. Did you know that one of the south korean players who defeated Germany is a policeman by profession. My submission is simple. Hunger for glory must be Number pre-requisite for taking any player to the world not the leagues where they play in Europe. No matter how good a player is, if he is not motivated he won't deliver. Most Europe based players are not hungry. I read an interview Romelu lukaku granted where he said that he became a deadly striker because his mother could only afford them bread bought on credit. Whenever he goes on the field to play in Belgium as a youth he remembers the rats running around in their house, the lack of food at home, the discrimination against him as a black man he becomes angry, fights and scores hat tricks. That's a proper case of hunger as a motivator. Iheanacho was the deadliest youth striker in the world as a young hungry boy just a few years ago, he has made money today and the source of motivation is no longer there. He can't even properly lift his fattened laps to kick the ball. Lets look for hungry boys who want to shine. Their source of motivation is still there, we should use their hunger to our advantage. |
baum1:I don't need much to prove to you. I have given you historical inferences to prove that European clubs hardly paid Africans poorly but better than what they earn at home. Yekini was an example. People who were not born yesterday are aware of this. You can make your findings. |
baum1:Bro, African players were the poorest paid in the 80s and early 90s, even the clubs usually refused to disclose publicly how much they pay their African players until FiFa stepped in. One of the issues Yekini had with Victoria setubal was money issues. He was made to sign a contract written in Portuguese in 1994 for peanuts when he discovered he signed an 'enslavement' contract. It became an issue. |
baum1:I am not disputing your submission. For the super eagles of 1994 most of them got contract to play in Europe when the won the 1994 AFCON in January that same year, few months later they were playing in the world cup. My submission was that.. 1.) African player were not well paid in Europe compared with their European counterparts. 2) The hunger was still there. Few months between Jan '94 AFCON glory and June '94 world cup final is not significant enough to douse motivation. Ighalo have been earning millions in naira years before he played this world cup where he simply went for fashion parade and to see him self on stadium TV screens. The source of his motivation is no longer there. So why would he perform? I just hope you get my point. |
okitiomas:Just look at Sadio mane today. He could hardly even make a proper pass going forward. |
Iruosonobrugwhe:Yekini moved to Victoria setubal from Africa after performing at the 1994 world cup. Morever the few African players in Europe were paid peanuts as at then. So the hunger was still there. Majority of the 1994 super eagles were largely based at home in Africa. |

African teams need to go back to the drawing board and give their hungry home based players a chance at international competitions. Most of their Europe-based players are not usually hungry and the responsibility to perform is too huge for them. The motivation is no longer there. They've made too much money which their ultimate aim in life. There lifelong needs have been met. Africans performed better at the world stage when they went with majorly home-based hungry players. Stop taking contented europe based players to the world cup. Take players that are hungry and angry. They are in your local leagues. Hunger is a great motivator. Use it to your advantage. Most players with fat bank accounts in Europe are no longer playing for glory they just play for fun at international competitions and end up breaking hearts of their countrymen back home. |

They wanted him dead because he said the truth, the biggest buffoons are the non-muslims who opposed KANU. |
An enemy of the Yoruba Muslim retards. |
An Average abooki muslim must have killed up to 10 christians and southerners before he clocks 20. This is why I don't pity them when Aba and Onitsha boys decide to reformat their skulls whenever they misbehave. In the East they've gotten the message that they don't have a monopoly of violence, that's why they live close to army barracks and head bridge borders. The yoromuslims can keep fooling themselves. |
Metuh:The Information ministry takes more money than the health sector because buhari acknowledges that lies, propaganda and fake news peddled by lie Mohammed on social media, print media and TV helped to sway the mind of the less informed into voting him. Listen, there is so much money in the information ministry let them channel it towards countering the bloggers who tell lies be it in entertainment, or sports. They've employed the BMC guys for political propaganda, they should also employ youths who will counter lies in the entertainment and so on. The money is there. They'll be creating employment and as well mitigating the so-called fake news. Using one stone to kill 2 birds. No true democracy regulates the social media. A liberated Social media must remain. |
Yoromoslems are pitiable. |
Metuh:Oga don't be deceived. The regulations of the social media is an attempt to legitimize only lies peddled by people like Lie Mohammed and his BMC zombies online and shut out the only means through which the common man can communicate without paying millions to govt-regulated newspapers and TV stations. It will be resisted. Buhari and his namesake in the senate wants to turn the country into north Korea using 'fake news' as an excuse. It will not work. The social media is the only instrument of checking their excesses and they want to take it away from the average citizen. Fake news can only be countered with truisms online which many governments now do. Not by replacing anti-FG news with lie mohammed and his BMCs' lies. |
hardywaltz:Answer the damned question you scoundrel. A you a towel-headed Muslim? |
uboma:In my opinion Keshi was better than Rohr. A pity he is late now. One of the prerequisite of the new coach should be a very good knowledge of the players abilities which Rohr lacks. I'd go for a no nonsense Nigerian coach who have gone for courses abroad with foreign experience. Oliseh won't be a bad replacement. |
GavelSlam:Airheaded abookina. Do they have the right to break into a house without a court warrant? Is that normal police procedure in this 21st century? Always supporting evil perpetrated by uniformed robbers. |
Disbanding the team totally is not what is needed. There are players who need to say their byes and no longer deserves a call up. They know themselves. They are under motivated and no longer useful. Ighalo, Idowu, Shehu, Iheanacho, Mikel and onazi should please exit the door. The rest of the players are fighters and should remain. NFF should start scouting for the next natural number 10 like Jay Jay, and total strikers like yekini, amokachi they are there somewhere in Nigerian league, on the street of Ajegunle, Fegge, Enugu, Owerri, Jos. They don't have to be attached with clubs. Most of the players in our legendary 1994 team weren't even playing for any club. They were hungry. A no-nonsense coach who will not take 'gifts' or 'bribe' from the players like Ighalo should be employed to replace Rohr. If someone like me can read matches better than Rohr even without a certificate in coaching then he has no reason being the Gaffer. He hardly knows his players strength and weakness. He should go. |
Very randy mor0n. |
