Politics › Senate Rejects Motion To Immortalise Saro-wiwa by Phate07(op): 1:37pm On Nov 12, 2010 |
An attempt to immortalise late Ken Saro-Wiwa, an Ogoni environmental activist who was hanged in 1995 by the military regime of Sani Abacha, was on Thursday blocked at the senate.
The proposal came through a motion sponsored by Lee Maeba (PDP River state) which sought the senate ’s consent to name a prominent national monument and major road in Abuja after the late Saro-Wiwa. Mr. Maeba was also seeking that the senate declare 11th November of every year to be named and recognised as ‘Ken Saro-Wiwa Day’ in Nigeria.
However, all his pleas were turned down by his colleagues at the senate.
The senators argued that if the motion was accepted, it will contradict the state action which carried out the execution of Mr. Saro-Wiwa and that it will only attract unwanted public attention that can’t be afforded now. www.234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5641394-146/senate_rejects_motion_to_immortalise_saro-wiwa.csp |

Health › Expert Warns Against Deodorants by Phate07(op): 12:26pm On Nov 12, 2010 |
Olarewaju Falodun, a dermatologist and consultant with the National Hospital, Abuja, has advised consumers to avoid the use of any deodorant they react to. Mr Falodun told the News Agency of Nigeria, in Lagos, that the use of deodorants in many cases is more of an individual ’s body reaction. “There are some people who after using some particular deodorants, develop some reactions such as boils, because some of these deodorants could actually block the pores of the skin,” he said.
“Some of them, other than blocking the pores, actually can become allergic reactions, because some of the components used in creating them can create an allergic situation, and so some individuals can react to the components of a particular deodorant. So for that reason, for an individual who has the reaction, we say please don ’t use it.”
He said heavy use of a perfume, apart from affecting the skin, could cause an airway reaction to an asthma patient, as a result of a particular component of that perfume, and urged anybody observing any reaction to consult a dermatologist. www.234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5641271-146/story.csp? |

Gbawe: Surprise , surprise !!! Shocking to see "democratic" Jonathan working for the ambitions of an undemocratic election rigger who should be in jail if , according to Femi Falana, Nigerian Courts have the integrity to invoke relevant clauses that would ensure election riggers are punished and disqualified from contesting further elections. Next , the fans of Jonathan will come here to say he is strenghtening our democracy when Nigerians only see desperate actions from a man determined to be President in 2011 by all means possible!!! It is called 'the game of politics' bro. Politicians normally only does that which will further their political careers and that of their allies. |
