List Of Five Alleged Outstanding Governors
As Nigerians countdown to the expiration of the present administrations both at the state and federal level, Naij.com has compiled a list of governors, who allegedly performed above average in the last four years.

1. Governor Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom, PDP): A man of many firsts, Akpabio used his magic wand to turn around an hitherto sleepy state into a centre of attraction in the nation. His massive investments in infrastructure, sports, education and youth empowerment are well documented. On assumption of office, he vowed to ensure that Akwa Ibom youths are not used as house helps in major cities across Nigeria. He has delivered on this front as his youth empowerment programmes have adequately engaged a lot of people. The Akwa Ibom Carnival, the Akwa Ibom township stadium, the Uyo International Airport, the Akwa Ibom Christmas Carol choir; listed in the Guiness World Book of Records and the support for Akwa Ibom youths in the entertainment industry are just a few legacies that Akpabio will be leaving behind. Indeed, Godswill has been done in Akwa Ibom State.

2. Governor Babatunde Fashola (Lagos, APC): A first class administrator, Fashola will be leaving Nigeria’s mega-city much better than he met it. From traffic management to waste management down to infrastructural investments. Fashola has shown that Lagos can work if the right people are in the right positions. One of the reasons why the revered Senior Advocate of Nigeria succeeded in his position is because he stayed away from active politicking. He focused on the issues of governance and gave way for his predecessor, Bola Tinubu, to handle the political front. This arrangement gave him the needed 100% focus in managing the affairs of the state. Fashola will be leaving office with his head high this week.

3. Ibrahim Shema (Katsina, PDP): He has succeeded in filling the very big shoes left by his predecessor and former president, late Umaru Musa Yar’adua. Shema, just like Yar’adua will be leaving a healthy bank balance for his successor and is the only governor in Nigeria today that is leaving office without any form of debt hanging on his administration. The former deputy chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party implemented people-friendly programmes in the state, which benefited many of his people. One area where he has been hailed constantly is, his immense contributions to the state’s agricultural sector. Realising that it had a large farming population, Shema used his connections in Abuja to team up with the agricultural ministry and various development partners in ensuring that farmers in the state got the right incentives to help their businesses grow.

4. Sullivan Chime (Enugu, PDP): A silent achiever, his health challenges which almost ruined his government did not deter him from fulfilling his promises to Enugu people. Chime embarked on a major infrastructural drive to change the face of Enugu and he has been commended by analysts for a job well done. A conservative politician, who is known for less talk, more action. He is not the type who spend huge funds in the media celebrating his achievements or gather VIPs to commission projects executed by his administration. He is also not known for criss-crossing the entire nation unlike some of his colleagues, as he is most times in Enugu conducting the affairs of the state and indeed delivering on the dividends of democracy.

There was pandemonium in Ikorodu this morning as some protesters stormed the palace of the Ayangbure to register their displeasure over the newly-elected paramount ruler of Ikorodu.



The protesters, members of the Lambo/Lasunwon Ruling house, revealed that the Oba-elect, Chief Kabir Sotobi, cannot be the Ayangbure of Ikorodu since he is still holding a traditional position in the Division.

With placards carrying inscriptions such as “Kabiru Sotobi is not our oba”, “Fashola, we want peace in Ikorodu”, “say no to Odofin as oba-elect”, the protesters asked for a disregard of the newly-appointed ruler.

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state is expected to present the staff of office to Shotobi in an elaborate ceremony today.

It was however, gathered that the protest is to move a motion against the presentation.

“If he is still the Odofin of Ikorodu, how can he be the next paramount ruler of this place?” one of the protesters identified as Prince Nofiu queried.

Another protester, who claimed to be a prince said that the case is still in court because they have appealed the ruling which was passed last week Friday.

He stated that the supposed oba-elect cannot assume the obaship post on the strength of the recent ruling alone.

As at the time of filing this report, the governor had not arrived the Ayangbure’s palace, venue of the event, as many prominent sons and daughters of Ikorodu were on hand to welcome the new paramount ruler in the Division.

An Israeli geologist claims he has confirmed the existence and authenticity of a tomb belonging to Jesus and his son in east Jerusalem.

Dr Arye Shimron claims he has found ‘virtually unequivocal evidence’ that Jesus’s body was left in the Talpiot Tomb, a burial site discovered in 1980. Expert says he has carried out extensive chemical tests which allegedly prove the tomb is the resting place of Jesus and his family, including his wife Mary, his brother, his son Judah and six other relatives.

Dr Shimron’s work has renewed controversy over the tomb and the James Ossuary – a 1st-century chalk box that some believe hold the bones of Jesus’ brother. Bones were discovered inside ossuaries, including one that bore the inscription, ‘Jesus, son of Joseph’. Others included the names Maria, Joseph, Mary, Yose, Matthew and most controversially, ‘Judah, son of Jesus’. Besides, the writing ‘Yeshua bar Yehosef’ (‘Jesus, son of Joseph’) was found written in the tomb.

Dr Shimron gained access to the James Ossuary and scraped beneath the box’s patina, the layer that forms on metal over time. He ran around 150 tests on the chemistry of samples from 25 different ossuaries – 15 of which were from unrelated tombs – and found that traces of magnesium, iron and silicon from the James Ossuary matched the chemical signature of Talpiot tomb.

The research could have enormous ramifications as it suggests that Jesus was married, fathered a child and that a physical resurrection did not take place. Jacobovici, who also took part in the study, said: “This find illustrates that the James Ossuary is authentic and the Jesus Family tomb indeed belongs to the family of Jesus of Nazareth.” Dr Shumron added: “The evidence is beyond what I expected. I think I’ve got really powerful, virtually unequivocal evidence that the James ossuary spent most of its lifetime, or death time, in the Talpiot Tomb.”

A lot has been said about Oba of Lagos Rilwanu Akiolu’s “message” to the Igbos on the eve of governorship election in their home state. Naij.com guest author Ibraheem Dooba attempts to find the reasons that might have provoked the Oba’s harsh behaviour.

After consideration, a reasonable mind would agree that there are two main reasons why the Oba of Lagos is receiving more flak than he deserves.

As is customary, however, let me quickly submit my condemnation of the Oba’s wish that Ndigbo drown in the lagoon. Nobody should say that, let alone an Oba. Therefore, it’s not the content of the Oba’s admonition that I’m defending, but its logic. Now, hear my count.

One, political decisions of the Ndigbo in recent years have left many Nigerians scratching their heads. The Ndigbo appear to have developed a knack for frustrating and then attracting the rants of those who care about them. They did it to Rochas Okorocha and now they’ve done it to the Oba. They planned to do it to Nigerians by massively voting for the PDP and President Jonathan. It was only God that saved us from them.

These can’t be the same people who want to produce the president of Nigeria as soon as possible?

A post-mortem of the last presidential is a case in point. They gave all the senatorial seats in the five states of the Southeast to the PDP. In the next assembly, the PDP is going to be a minority party. Therefore, like Rochas Okorocha and Dr Chris Ngige reasoned, if they had given even one seat to an Igbo man, such as Ngige, that senator would naturally have been our senate president. But they didn’t, and have not shown even an itty-bitty sign of remorse.

Other than the political officers recruited by the president, Ndigbo have dealt themselves a hand that will leave them screaming in political oblivion.

We hear that after transacting in that horrendous political miscalculation in the Southeast, a horde of them is returning to Lagos to elect Agbaje for no reason other than because they can. It’s not as if Agbaje is their friend or in-law, or because he’s given them businesses in the past.

It’s the reason why the oba started his admonition logically: we’ve been a good host to you, and the successive governments of the opposition have done this and that for you. So vote wisely by voting Ambode.

The Oba probably resorted to threats because he knew that the audience wouldn’t listen. It’s like warning a child against self-destructive behaviour when the delectation of rebellion has already blinded him from considering the fact that his action would yield no enduring utility.

I read one justification recently where the writer argued that Ndigbo had been consistent in supporting Jonathan because doing otherwise would make them appear untrustworthy. That’s well and good if trustworthiness is what they desire. But I have a feeling it’s not, because that’s not what they complain about daily. Their main discontent has been about political positions: being president of Nigeria, being deputy governor of Lagos, etc.

Two, the Oba is known to pay people he encounters the courtesy of being blunt. That’s who he is. Channels TV once showed a gathering of some description where the Oba was dishing out public reprimand to ex-president Obasanjo. But because Obasanjo was big enough to take such public lashing, he was later seen at the same location embracing the Oba.

It’s not nice to kick folk when they’re down. I say just deserts to Ndigbo for sending curses on me and asking their deities to do something bad to me. When I said I would rather die than vote Jonathan, it was Ndigbo who predicted that death was coming to me because Jonathan was going to win. When I published “Letter to Ndigbo” on Naij.com, it was Ndigbo who said: “Ibraheem Dooba, may thunder strike you down.”

At least those who can swim will survive in the lagoon. How would I survive a thunder strike?

Finally, someone needs to do a PhD study on Ndibgo politics and interrogate

Jimi Agbaje is unarguably one of the smartest politicians around. This is even more evident when you hear him speak. He is articulate and one of the best public speakers in the country.

2. Clean Hands:
Unlike most politicians, Jimi Agbaje has never been involved in any graft or scandal which makes him a role model of some sorts to aspiring politicians, considering that politics is usually considered an exercise to get one’s hands dirty. Jimi Agbaje is a far cry from the regular Nigerian politician and his track record in the private sector speaks for him.

3. Jimi Agbaje has a history of fighting for a better government:
JK’s political genesis can be traced to the aftermath of the 1993 presidential election. According to him, he saw the annulment of the result as an insult on the Nigerian people and got into politics to change the status qup. Over the years, Agbaje has been involved in a number of resistance movements seeking for a better society. This informed his early rapport with notable figures like Pat Utomi, Dr Ayo Ighodaro, Asue Ighodalo, Billy Lawson, Oby Ezekwesili, Tola Mobolurin, among others. It is widely belived that the equitable society Jimi has always sought after will be easily realized if given the mandate.

4. He has a rich professional resume:
Asides currently sitting on the board of a number of renowned companies, Jimi Agbaje boasts an illustrious resume. From 1987 to 1990, Jimi Agbaje served as National Secretary of Nigerian Association, General Practice. From 1990 to 1993, Mr. Agbaje held various professional appointments which include National Chairman of Nigerian Association of General Practice Pharmacists. From 1994 to 1997, he served as Chairman of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (Lagos State). He also was Chairman of 1994 National Conference Planning Committee of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria. In the year 2000, Jimi Agbaje served as the National Treasurer of Afenifere, more proof that public funds are indeed safe with him.

5. Jimi’s manifesto is compelling:
Have you seen and read his manifesto? You should visit his website www.jimiagbaje.com and see for yourself. His ideas are plain for all to see and are driven towards the development of Lagos. Anybody who sees that manifesto and doesn’t throw his weight behind Agbaje’s bid must not love Lagos and Nigeria at large.

6. He is an enviable father and husband:
Jimi Agbaje met his wife Abiola Agbaje (Bankole) at the then University of Ife (now University of Ibadan), and has stuck with her until now, with their three children. Unlike most randy politicians, Jimi is known as a loyal husband which has seen him carve a niche as a loving family man and many are testament to his fatherly responsibilities.

7. Jimi is the Change Lagos needs:
For the past 16 years, Lagos has been ruled by a single group of people/persons although their name has changed over time, they are still the same set of people. Considering the fact that there has been a change at the Federal level, Jimi is looked at by many is the change that can be seen in Lagos, given the wanton mismanagement of the state’s vast resources, human and otherwise.
