Nigeria’s former military ruler, Ibrahim Babangida, did not make commitment on the 2015 presidential poll to President Goodluck Jonathan at the recent meeting in Minna.
However, contrary to the widespread insinuations, the former President only touched upon the national issues and problems.The Nation report,
It would be recalled that following the closed-door December 27 meeting it was reported that Babangida urged Nigerians to support Jonathan in the next-year’s elections.
We further learnt that Jonathan allegedly started reaching out to key emirs and leaders of the North is search for support, which is part of the President’s plan to reduce the influence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the region.
Gen. Babangida’s key aides based in Abuja disclosed the details of the Saturday’s meeting in Minna, after he was blasted for backing Jonathan.
The source, who pleaded for anonymity,debunked the reports making rounds:
“It is true that the President visited Gen. Babangida at his Minna Hilltop mansion but the nature of his message was based purely on unity of the country and not about 2015 presidential election.
“As a former president who fought for the unity of the country, he was of the view that the president needs support as President and not as presidential candidate per se.
“It is his view that the country needs to be united as one before we can begin to talk about election. Only a united Nigeria can guarantee credible election.”
The source stressed the importance of not misinterpreting Babangida’s words:
“What Gen. IBB said should be viewed within the context of the larger Nigeria interest and not that of any parochial interest that is likely to unsettle the system.
“Those of them who fought in the civil war to keep the country one understand the dynamics and challenges facing us now in the face of grave insecurity and poor economic realities

Jose Mourinho has claimed “a clear campaign” against Chelsea and is influencing referees after his side were held to a 1-1 draw at Southampton.
The Chelsea manager was left fuming when referee Anthony Taylor failed to award a clear penalty to Chelsea in the 55th-minute for a trip on Cesc Fabregas by Matt Targett, instead Fabregas was giving a yellow card for diving
Jose Mourinho was happy with his players’ efforts but blamed the Fabregas booking on recent accusations of diving made against Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic, who was named by Sam Allardyce in the wake of West Ham’s Boxing Day defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Mourinho was was speaking to Skysports after the Southampton game said
“Of course (it has influenced the referee),” he said. “That’s a campaign, that’s a clear campaign. People, pundits, commentators, coaches from other teams – they react with Chelsea in a way they don’t react to other teams.
“They put lots of pressure on the referee and the referee makes a mistake like this. We lose two points, Fabregas earns a yellow card.”
Meanwhile Jose Mourinho did not accuse the refree of anything other than “making a mistake” but claimed a similar decision would cause “a scandal” outside of England.
“In this country – and I am happy with that, more than happy with that – we will just say that it was a big mistake with a big influence in the result.
“I am happy that it is this way, with respect for the referee. He made a big mistake like I make, like the players make sometimes.”

“I will go to the referee in 15 minutes just to wish him a good year and to tell him that he will be ashamed when he sees it on television.”
Chelsea have had four players booked for diving this season, the first of them in their first game when Diego Costa saw yellow at Burnley despite contact from the goalkeeper.

Are you pimping her to Tinubu or to the other names you mentioned in the song? The Buhari Support Organizations, BSO, revealed that they have received a donation of N54, 415,386.70 (Fifty Four Million, Four Hundred and Fifteen Thousand, Three Hundred Eighty Six Naira and Seventy Kobo) for Gen. Buhari’s presidential campaign.
