APC has been consistent in saying that PDP has ruled Nigeria for 16 disastrous years in which corruption, impunity, insurgency, armed robbery and several ills of society held sway. But at a very close look at the APC, I am seeing: 1)Rotimi Amaechi – 8 years speaker; 7 year, Governor under PDP. 2)Atiku Abubakar – 8 years Vice president under PDP. 3)George Akume – 8 years Governor under PDP. 4)Bukola Saraki – 8 years Governor; 2 years, Senator under PDP. 5)Timipre Sylver – 4 years Governor under PDP. 6)Audu Ogbe – 2 years National Chairman of the PDP. 7)Aminu Masari – 4 years as the Speaker, House of Representativesunder PDP. Chris Ngige – 3 years Governor under PDP. 9)Rabiu Kwankwaso – 7 years Governor; 3 years Defense minister under PDP. 10)El Rufai – 4 years FCT Minister; 2 years BPE Chairman under PDP. 11)Tambuwal-3years as Speaker House of Reps under PDP; and to cap it all, Obasanjo is the navigator of the APC, a man who spent 8 of the disastrous 16 years as the maximum ruler of Nigeria. It is now clear that APC is a waste basket of the PDP, where the people who created and perpetuated the 16 disastrous years are now dumped. So where is the change coming from? Are they now saints because they joined APC?Pls be WISE & VOTE not for those seeking power by force :- ASSOCIATION OF PAST CRIMINALS (APC ) ASSOCIATION OF "PDP" CRIMINALS ALL PAST CRIMINALS our politicians who is kidding who? The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday said President Goodluck Jonathan had destroyed the integrity of the Nigerian Army. Tinubu, who addressed supporters of the APC in Katsina State during the party’s presidential campaign, was reacting to the claim by the Nigerian Army that the original certificates of the APC presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), were not in its custody. Tinubu said the controversy suggesting that Buhari might not have sat for the West African School Certificate Examination as he claimed, having failed to tender the results, was an unnecessary distraction and a proof that the Peoples Democratic Party lacked the capacity to woo voters. The APC leader described the President Jonathan administration as a failure, adding that the certificate controversy would not stop Nigerians from voting him (President) out of power. He said, “We are confronted with terrorist challenges of the violent Boko Haram sect. Instead of Jonathan to stop Boko Haram, he is busy dancing around and the Peoples Democratic Party are busy talking about qualification of Buhari. They have destroyed the Army. They are destroying the integrity of the Army. “Are you questioning the time that Buhari was recruited into the Nigerian Army? Are you saying the colonial Army did not inspect his certificates before they sent him for training as a cadet officer? Are you saying he did not graduate as a cadet? Are you saying he did not become a captain? Or are you saying he did not become a colonel? Are you saying he did not take any exam in the Army? What is the Nigerian Army becoming? Is it a Jonathan Army or election Army?” Tinubu, whose speech was interrupted with shouts of ‘Sai Buhari’ from the crowd, urged the northern youths to vote out Jonathan in the February elections. He said President Jonathan did not deserve a second term because he was incompetent to tackle the nation’s problems. Tinubu said, “They are not talking about corruption. They are not talking about the money; how Nigeria’s oil money is being stolen. They are busy stealing the money pretending to be fighting corruption and always giving us excuses everyday and every time. We should vote him out. Change Jonathan, vote Buhari. “May God keep Nigeria from the level of destruction that the Jonathan administration has plunged the nation into. The PDP has worsened poverty in the country and they don’t remember any good thing to tell Nigerians. They are liars. This is why we are asking you to vote Buhari – qualification or no qualification, certificate or no certificate, married or single, young or old.” www.punchng.com/news/jonathan-has-destroyed-army-says-tinubu/ |

The Government College, Katsina (formerly Provincial Secondary School) on Wednesday released the credentials of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). Copies of the credentials from the college were made available toThe PUNCHby the Director of Media and Publicity, APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Garba Shehu, shortly after Buhari told journalists in Kano that he had formally requested the institution to make his documents available. The credentials were a statement of results issued by the state Ministry of Education and a confidential result sheet by the University of Cambridge. They were both dated January 21, stamped and signed by the Principal and Examination Officer of the college whose names did not show. In the confidential result sheet, Buhari’s name was the second among the 17 candidates that sat the Cambridge/ West African School Certificate Examination in 1961. When one of our correspondents informed the principal on the telephone that no signature or name of a Cambridge university official was sighted on the confidential result sheet, he replied, “As far as we concerned, we only issued the General(Buhari) what we have here.” The PUNCHhowever sent an email to the Cambridge University concerning the APC candidate’s result but had yet to receive a response as of 10pm on Wednesday. Buhari had at a news conference at the Kano State Government House, dismissed the controversy over his school certificate as a mischief orchestrated by the Peoples Democratic Party. He explained that but for concerns being raised by his numerous supporters, he would have ignored the matter because he considered it a non-issue. The APC candidate said that the fact that he sat for and obtained the Cambridge/ West Africa Examination Council Certificate was not in doubt because his examination number, 8280002, was verifiable. Buhari also named some of his classmates who sat for the same examination as the late Maj. Gen. Shehu Yar’Adua and a former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Umaru Abdullahi. He said he had assumed that copies of his certificate were in his personal file with the Military Board but that he was surprised to hear the Army claiming on Tuesday that they did not have them. The Katsina born former Head of State and politician said, “I had assumed all along that all my records were in the custody of the Military Secretary of the Nigerian Army. Much to my surprise, we are now told that although a record of the result is available, there are no copies of the certificate in my personal file. “This is why I formally requested my old school, the Provincial Secondary School, Katsina (which is now known as Government College) to make available the school’s copy of the result of the Cambridge/West African School Certificate. This will be made available to the press the moment this is available. “I attended Provincial Secondary School, Katsina. I graduated in 1961 with many prominent Nigerians. www.punchng.com/news/katsina-college-releases-buharis-statement-of-results/ |
The Peoples Democratic Party has said that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is liable for Tuesday’s attack on the convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan in Katsina. The PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation said it would hold Buhari responsible if anything should happen to Jonathan in the course of the electioneering while PDP spokesperson, Olisa Metuh said the party would no longer tolerate such acts of violence on any of its members Both Metuh, the publicity secretary of the PDP, and Femi Fani-Kayode, the director of media and publicity of the PDP campaign organisation, on Wednesday reacted to the Katsina incident. Fani-Kayode, at a press briefing in Abuja, said, “Let us take this opportunity to also serve them (APC) notice that if anything untoward happens to our candidate or his supporters during the course of this campaign we shall hold Buhari and his party responsible and the consequences would be grave, unimaginable and far-reaching.” Fani-Kayode alleged that a group of broom-wielding vandals, chanting “sai Buhari”, hurled stones at the convoy of the President and that but for the gallant efforts of the security personnel, “this small group of violent vandals would have harmed the President and caused damage to the vehicles in his convoy.” He said it was regrettable that the stoning occurred in Katsina, the home state of Buhari, and reminded Nigerians that the APC presidential candidate had visited Bayelsa State, where President Jonathan hails from and that while there, Buhari was not molested. He described the action of the APC supporters in Katsina State as “despicable, barbaric, shameful and highly reprehensible.” Metuh, in a statement in Abuja, said the attack was “a clear indication that the APC is not ready to dial back on its rabid desire to attain power through violence despite signing a peace pact a week ago in Abuja”. He said, “This brazen attack on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and our presidential candidate clearly showed that the APC was never committed to the spirit and letters of the Abuja peace accord which they signed in the presence of prominent Nigerians and international personalities. “It is unfortunate that while the PDP and other parties are busy ensuring that their members and supporters remain committed to a peaceful electioneering, the APC has been hatching plots to unleash violence on our candidates and members. “We invite Nigerians, friends of Nigeria and all lovers of democracy to rise in condemnation of this dangerous phenomenon. These early developments clearly demonstrate that the comments and declarations by the leaders of the APC that Nigeria would be thrown into chaos and bloodshed should it lose the February general elections were real.” Metuh commended the maturity and the peaceful disposition of President Jonathan and the leaders of the PDP even in the face of provocation. He said, “The irony which we wish to place on record is that the APC, which has successfully completed its campaigns in the South-South, including Bayelsa, the home state of President Jonathan, without any incident and has even signed a pact to maintain peace, is turning round to unleash thugs to disrupt the presidential campaign of our party. “In spite of this, we wish to assure Nigerians of the iron cast resolve of the PDP to ensure peaceful and credible general elections where the votes of the people shall exclusively determine who emerge as leaders in the general elections” Meanwhile, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, has said his group would respond appropriately to the attack on Jonathan’s convoy in Katsina State. Dokubo-Asari, in Abuja on Wednesday, said members of his group were putting the world on notice because the Katsina youths chose to attack the President’s convoy as he was leaving a campaign venue. He said, “There is an established pattern of pre- and post-election violence in the north. In the 50s when late (Chief Obafemi) Awolowo was campaigning in the north, he went with helicopters and he was mocked. “People said he was flying over the houses and peeping on their wives. That has continued and everywhere in the country, people say leave them alone. We don’t want any trouble. But I think the game has changed. The rules of the game have changed. “For every action, there will be an opposite and equal reaction. I knew that the signing of the accord was useless and that the President subjected himself to sign such an accord. For me, it was out of place for a President and Commander- in- Chief of the armed forces of a country. But the President is a humble person. He does things that even marvel some of us and make us sometimes to be very angry |
The Lagos State Government has ordered President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign groups, including the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, to remove the President’s campaign materials illegally mounted on street lamp posts in the state. The Managing Director, Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency, George Noah, said if those concerned failed to heed the order, the agency’s enforcement team would remove them in line with the enabling law. Noah spoke in Ikeja, Lagos on Wednesday, saying LASAA, due to certain developments in electioneering campaigns, had decided to tell the public about the impunity and illegality that “posed immeasurable and long term damage to those who erect, operate and maintain billboards in the state”. Noah said, “In the last 48 hours, two advertisers in the outdoor sector had terminated multi-million naira contracts with outdoor agencies registered by LASAA to operate in the state.” He stated that the contracts were terminated as a result of parallel and illegal mounting of Jonathan’s campaign materials on posts paid for by the advertisers. “The two advertisers in question are a Chinese telecoms firm, Huawei, and Globacom. The outdoor agencies affected are Touch Point Limited and Clearedge Limited. Both agencies have lost N350m. “The illegal and brazen act by agents of the Peoples Democratic Party is unjust, inconsiderate and therefore unacceptable at a time outdoor advertising is facing stiff competition from television, radio and the social media. “The illegal act is capable of destroying outdoor agencies in our state. It will almost certainly lead to lay-off of workers and loss of revenue for our stakeholders,” Noah said. He added that in line with the agency’s statutory functions to regulate and control outdoor advertisement in Lagos, the illegal posters must go. “LASAA hereby directs the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria and its affiliates to remove all campaign materials on street lamp posts in Lagos State immediately, failing which our enforcement team will remove same in line with the enabling law setting up LASAA,” Noah said. He also alleged that the PDP agents had been removing the advert materials of Glo on poles, which the telecom company paid for, to replace them with Jonathan’s materials. Noah further alleged that policemen usually gave the PDP agents backing, adding that the police had withdrawn the policemen attached to the agency www.punchng.com/news/remove-jonathans-posters-from-lamp-posts-lasg/ |

ABUJA—As controversy continues to trail the academic qualifications of the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Major General Mohammadu Buhari, the Army, yesterday, said it was not in possession of Buhari’s credentials. The APC presidential candidate, Major General Buhari had averred in an affidavit he deposed before an Abuja High Court that all his certificates were with the Secretary, Military Board, while submitting his Form 199A to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. But the Army, yesterday, denied being in possession of the APC candidate’s original certificates or the certified true copies. The outgoing Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Olajide Laleye, who addressed newsmen in Abuja, said: “The Nigerian Army does not have the original copy of his (Buhari) West African Examinations Council, WAEC result or a certified true copy.” But the APC in a swift reaction has warned that those who are bent on destroying Buhari on the basis of his certificates may end up destroying the country’s military. The army spokesman told newsmen that what the army had and which he displayed were the information contained in the forms Buhari filled at the point of his entry into the military and some letters of recommendation by Principal of Provincial Secondary School, Katsina. For the record Olajide said: “Records available indicate that Major General Muhammadu Buhari applied to join the military as a Form Six student of the Provincial Secondary School, Katsina on October 18, 1961. His application was duly endorsed by the Principal of the school, who also wrote a report on him and recommended him suitable for military commission.” The report which was shown to newsmen, read: “I recommend Muhammadu Buhari fit for military commission.” On Buhari’s result, the Principal also wrote, “I consider that he will pass Maths, English and three other subjects.” Laleye said the briefing was necessitated by deluge of requests from civil society groups and the media among others, over General Buhari’s eligibility for any political office. He said: “It is a practice in the Nigerian Army that before candidates are short-listed for commissioning into the officers’ cadre of the service, the selection board verifies the original copies of credentials that are presented. “However, there is no available record to show that this process was followed in the 60s. Nevertheless, the entry made on the Nigerian Army Form 199A at the point of documentation after commission as an officer indicated that the former head of state obtained the West African School Certificate, WASC, in 1961 with credits in relevant subjects: English Language, Geography, History, Health Science, Hausa and a pass in English Literature. “Neither the original copy, Certified True Copy, CTC, nor statement of result of Major General Muhammadu Buhari’s WASC result is in his personal file. What I have said here is what is contained in his service records’ personal file. We have not added or subtracted anything. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/army-speaks-buharis-certificates/

Again, some Bayelsa State youths have issued a stern warning to the wife of the President, Patience Jonathan, not to visit the state during the Peoples Democratic Party presidential rally on February 5. The youths from Bayelsa creeks, under the auspices of the Mangrove Boys of Bayelsa, warned on Tuesday that if the First Lady failed to heed their warning, she would be thoroughly disgraced and have herself to blame. The warning came a few days after the Bayelsa Youth Vanguard issued a similar statement barring Patience from attending the proposed rally. Reinforcing the position of the BYV, the creek youths asked Mrs. Jonathan to steer clear of the rally in her own interest. The youths, in a statement by their President, Mr. Opuyo Engobara, and Secretary, Mr. Warrman Aderi, accused the First Lady of aiding his anointed governorship aspirant, Mr. Waripamowei Dudafa, to recruit youths to boo and stone Governor Seriake Dickson, at the proposed rally. They lamented President Goodluck Jonathan’s silence over the alleged excesses of his wife, wondering whether he intended to join in the stoning of the governor. They said, “In her last visit to the state, Mrs. Jonathan came ahead of her husband, avoided the state Government Lodge and stayed at Otuoke for three days. “During the time, she was busy sponsoring Dudafa’s recruitment drive with the intention to go against the governor by booing and stoning him at the planned rally to discredit his administration before the PDP National Executive Council. “Is President Jonathan using this as a ploy to join Bayelsa youths to stone Governor Dickson as promised (by the President) during his presidential campaign in 2011 and subsequently to oust Dickson’s administration, since he could hardly rebuke his wife in several of her political atrocities?” The creek agitators insisted that the presence of Patience at the proposed rally would cause tension and security breaches in the state. They said Patience actions and pronouncement in recent times had allegedly been fuelling crisis in the state. The youths listed eight sins of Patience and accused her of opening a new secretariat for the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria in the state with an intention to use the group to mobilise against the governor. They alleged that the First Lady tinkered with the leadership of TAN and aided her loyalists to reposition the campaign group to actualise her ambition of removing Dickson. The youths further lamented that Patience used the occasion of the sharing of the Millennium Development Goals items at the Samson Siasia Stadium to make inflammatory statements against the governor. They recalled that Patience attended a function in Dudafa’s town and made open statements supporting him as the next governor. The youths also alleged that Patience sponsored aspirants that failed in the PDP primaries, to defect to the All Progressives Grand Alliance. They noted that the peace currently enjoyed in the state came from the hard work of the governor, reminiscing that in the previous government, Jonathan’s house was razed down in Otuoke by aggrieved militants www.punchng.com/news/well-disgrace-patience-jonathan-at-bayelsa-rally/ |
Political thugs on Tuesday attacked the convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan in Katsina State during the continuation of his re-election campaign. The presidential candidate of the party, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is from the state. Trouble started when Jonathan, accompanied by Vice President Namadi Sambo; the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu; and Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State among others decided to pay a courtesy visit on the late President Umar Yar’Adua’s mother, Hajiya Dada. As the President and members of his entourage made their ways into the Yar’Adua Quarters, the brooms-wielding youths who were chanting “Sai Buhari” surged forward. Security agents had a hectic time dispersing the crowd. The youths regrouped and again moved to attack the President’s convoy as he was ready to leave the Yar’Adua’s residence. Security agents had to fire tear gas canisters to disperse the youths to allow vehicles in the convoy of the President to speed off. As the presidential delegation made their way towards the Katsina Airport, the youths hurled stones at the convoy. No case of injury was however reported. While addressing a rally earlier at the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in the state capital, Jonathan had attributed his Presidency to the late President who he said chose him as the Vice President in 2007. For this reason, the President promised to always meet the needs of the people of the state before they ask. “But for you, I would not have been here today. It was your own son that brought me as his deputy. Anything that you want from me, we will do it without you asking for it,” he said. The President listed some of the achievements of his administration to include the establishment of a federal university and the establishment ofAlmajirischools among others in the state. On security situation in some parts of the country, Jonathan said, “We have challenges like many other countries in the world but we are still managing because of our focus. We will get through our challenges because we are working hard and you know it.” Jonathan asked them to vote for him and Sambo to enable them to continue to work for the peace and progress of the state. Earlier while on a courtesy visit to the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumuni Usman, Jonathan had recalled that his political odyssey at the centre started in Katsina when he became the vice president to the late Yar’Adua. He reassured the Emir that he would continue to work with Katsina people to develop the country. The traditional ruler advised politicians to consider the interest of the masses and ensure that peace prevailed in the country, noting that only God gives power to whoever he chooses www.punchng.com/news/thugs-stone-jonathans-convoy-in-katsina/ |
After 16 years, a Federal High Court in Makurdi, Benue State, has declared the ban placed by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration on the use of HIV/AIDS vaccine discovered by a surgeon, Jeremiah Abalaka, as illegal, null and void. Justice Binta Nyako in a 32-page judgment obtained by journalists during a press briefing by Abalaka on Saturday in Abuja, however, held that the use of the vaccines must be at the discretion of the patient. “The government lined up experts recently during Ebola outbreak. Everything and everyone that could contribute to the battle was brought on deck and Nigeria was the pride of the world and the people were proud of the government. HIV/AIDS is also related to Ebola as it is equally a death penalty on its victims. This should call for encouragement and not dampening of the spirit of persons who have made efforts to provide a remedy,” the Judge held. The government had banned the use of the vaccines even when the Editor of an International Journal, “The Vaccine”, has praised his efforts. Despite the victory, Abalaka said that he had not forgiven the former President for the ban placed on his vaccine. He said, “For me, I think it is a matter of basis; you can forgive someone or ignore what the person has done. Obasanjo has not apologised to me? How does forgiveness for him come up? Even if you believe in God as I do, we confess our sins to God before God forgives us. God is Almighty; even when we do wrong, we go to God and seek forgiveness. “Obasanjo has not apologised to me in anyway; so for me, the issue of forgiveness for Obasanjo is premature and out of place. I can ignore all he has done and that is the only option available to me.” Abalaka and his hospital, Medicrest Specialist Hospital Limited, Gwagwalada, had dragged the Federal Government to court seeking a declaration that the July 20, 2000 ban or suspension of the use of HIV vaccine he discovered was illegal, null and void, because it violates his Patent No. RP 13567 dated July 22, 1999. The President, Attorney-General of the Federation and the National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control were joined as defendants in the suit. He had told the court how he took blood from an infected person, treated it and re-injected it back into the person. “That he did this on himself, using the blood of an infected person and after three months tested himself and he is negative,” the court held. The surgeon had also informed the court that he had treated infected persons with their consent and quite a few reverted to negative. According to him, even though he had informed the officials in the Federal Ministry of Health of his major breakthrough and sought their collaboration, they were not cooperative, but instead, set up a committee that wanted him to give them his patent. Justice Nyako said, “The defendants have not justified their ban on the plaintiff’s vaccine before the honourable court…The defendants have not placed any evidence before the court to show that the plaintiff’s vaccine has any harmful side effects. “The plaintiffs have proved their case and met all the requirements and conditions for the declaration and granting of perpetual injunction they seek. Because the plaintiff’s research and efforts were nipped in the bud and even by his admission, I cannot say that what he has discovered is safe and effective because further studies need to be carried out on it.” The judge however held that since there was no evidence before the court that the guidelines for assessment of the drug/vaccine had been in place 15 years on and it did not appear that any was in the offing, “I find that the ban on the plaintiff’s vaccine was done arbitrarily and thus illegal, null and void. www.punchng.com/news/court-nullifies-ban-on-abalakas-hivaids-vaccine/ |

Boko Haram insurgents on Sunday struck again in Yobe and Bauchi states, killing 11 people, including five soldiers. The Bauchi attack was carried out by a lone suicide bomber at the Bulala Motor Park in the troubled Potiskum. Five people died and 36 others were injured. That of Yobe was at a military checkpoint in Takanda-Giwa on the Bauchi-Jos Highway. Five soldiers and a civilian passerby were said to have lost their lives to the incident which took place a few hours after the militant Islamist sect abducted 80 people in Cameroon. A hospital source in Potiskum, who narrated the attack toThe PUNCHon the telephone, said five bodies, including that of the bomber and the injured, were brought to the General Hospital in the commercial town which in the past three weeks has been attacked thrice. He said he feared that the death toll might rise as some of those injured were grappling to stay alive. The source added that nine out of the 36 injured persons were later referred to the Federal Medical Centres in Azare and Nguru. A motor park source, Idris AbdulKadir, said the suicide bomber sneaked into Bulala garage along the Bauchi-Jos Road and detonated an explosive device, killing himself and four others on the spot “The explosion went off around 9.50am on Sunday. As I speak, we counted five dead bodies but many other people are being conveyed to the hospital in Potiskum for immediate medical attention,” AbdulKadir said. The PUNCHgathered that the attack at the Bauchi-Jos Highway forced motorists from Bauchi and Jos to abandon their vehicles and flee. Unconfirmed reports had it that the attackers, who killed five soldiers and a civilian, escaped with the soldiers’ Toyota Hilux parked at the checkpoint. But it could not be confirmed if any of the insurgents died during the exchange of fire with the soldiers. A military source, who did not want his name in print, however claimed that one soldier and a civilian were killed. A exchange of gunfire between soldiers and the insurgents in Gombi, Adamawa State was reported also reported on Sunday night. A resident of the town, who gave his name simply as Musa, told our one of correspondents on the telephone, that the soldiers were repelling the terrorists. “The soldiers, with the assistance of riot policemen, are dealing with insurgents,” Umar said. Also on Sunday, Reuters new agency quoted Cameroonian officials as saying that Boko Haram Boko abducted 30 adults and 50 young children. But the Agence France Presse said in a report on Sunday that the sect attacked two villages in Tourou in Cameroon’s Far North region and left with 60 people. “They torched houses and left with around 60 people. Most of these people were women and children,” a police officer told the agency. Boko Haram which is in control of some communities in Nigeria’s North-East had threatened Cameroon and other countries that have common borders with Nigeria. Last year, 27 people seized in Cameroon by suspected Boko Haram fighters were held for months before being freed in October. They included 10 Chinese workers and the wife of Cameroon’s Vice-Prime Minister Amadou Ali. Earlier this month, Boko Haram’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, released a video threatening Cameroon’s President Paul Biya, who has been vocal in his criticism of the group. Meanwhile, a contingency of soldiers from Chad has arrived in Maroua in northern Cameroon, where it will be deployed in the Nigerian border as part of efforts to contain the Boko Haram insurgency. A spokesman for Cameroon’s Defence ministry, Col. Didier Badjeck, who made this known on Sunday, did not say how many troops had been deployed by Chad. “In the coming days, they will be deployed in the war zone on the border with Nigeria so that they can join our defence forces to crush and prevent incursions of Boko Haram into Cameroonian territory,” he said. Biya, who recently appealed for international assistance against Boko Haram, announced earlier this week that he was expecting the arrival of a large Chadian force to support his country’s efforts against the militants. Chad has a reputation as one of the region’s best militaries and helped French forces drive al Qaeda-linked Islamists from northern Mali in 2013. www.punchng.com/news/bharam-attacks-bauchi-yobe-abducts-80-in-cameroon/ |
President Goodluck Jonathan says his administration has transformed the railway system, adding that the people of Lagos now enjoy train rides in air-conditioned coaches. The President said this in a Facebook post on Sunday. Jonathan, who described the feat as a ‘silent revolution’ promised that his administration would do more in the coming years. He said, “A silent revolution is taking place in Lagos. Every day, thousands ofLagosiansare escaping the hustle and bustle of Lagos traffic by traversing the mainland in the new air condition Diesel Multiple Unit trains. “These trains were introduced by my administration as a fore taste of our plan to develop an inter-city and intra-city high speed train network for Lagos. The Federal Government has already signed a $1.5bn contract for the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan Express Train. “This project, when completed, will make it possible to live in Ibadan and work in Lagos. This is progressing simultaneously with the $12bn Lagos-Calabar coastal rail project. This project is 1,402km long and will link Lagos to Calabar with stops at cities along the route. We have good plans for Lagos, plans that will ensure that Lagos continues to be the centre of excellence and a pride to Nigeria. |
JANUARY 15 every year is set aside as the day when activities to remember and honour members of the nation’s armed forces come to an end. This year was not different. What was different was that it was a day the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, finally came out of his shell. Let me not say he came out of hiding. You will recall that after the bomb blasts near Eagle Square on October 1, 2010, which were later blamed on the outlawed Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), Boko Haram activities picked up the following year around Abuja, and the president resorted to inspecting the ceremonial change of guards on independence days in the courtyards of Aso Villa. When the armed forces flushed the terrorists from Maiduguri and other towns in the North east into Sambisa and other “forests”, Boko Haram defied series of emergency rules and started attacking villages, hamlets, schools and markets in the three states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. Last year alone, Boko Haram not only killed boys in a Yobe boarding school but also abducted 276 girls from the Day Secondary School in Chibok, thus sparking worldwide outrage. The Islamist militants became emboldened and abandoned asymmetrical warfare. They acquired conventional weapons and started acquiring territories, overrunning towns such as Bama, Baga, Gwoza, Madagalli, Michika, Mubi and others, bringing at least sixteen local government councils under its control. The Nigerian Armed Forces suffered humiliating media image, as mutinies and sabotages became the order of the day. This forced the army to conduct series of Court Martials. Many Nigerians were frustrated that their president did not see it fit to visit the North east and show he cared. On January 14th this year, we saw a different President Jonathan. Wearing a simple grey with a black “boat hat” to match (without bullet-proof vest) GEJ went to the Abuja military cemetery to participate in the solemn ceremonies of paying tributes to fallen members of the armed forces. The papers reported a rumpus during the parades, in which one of the soldiers firing the gun salute got his rifle hooked to the belt of his tunic. The president’s dare-devil guards immediately shielded him with their own bodies because it seemed the soldier intended some foul play. When it was later established that it was an innocuous mix-up, the ceremonies went on. Through it all, GEJ, as The PUNCH put it, “remained unruffled”. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/jonathan-maiduguri/ |

Are they now saints because they joined APC?Pls be WISE & VOTE not for those seeking power by force :-
