PoliticsTwo Docked For Robbing Man Of #165,000 Cash by phillippiano(op): 11:22pm On Dec 28, 2013
Two men, Sunday Meku, 27, and Michael Daniel, 26,
have been arraigned before a Lagos High Court in
Igbosere, for allegedly robbing one Isaac Ezoh of his
property while armed with offensive weapons. Meku and Daniel were said to have attacked Engineer
Isaac Ezoh while armed with cutlass, broken bottles
and hammer and dispossessed him of N165, 000 cash
and six mobile phones. The duo are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy
and armed robbery, but pleaded not guilty when the
charges were read to them. According to the charge,
Meku and Daniel committed the offences on June 20,
2008 at Techno Horizon Company, Alesh Str., off Kiri-
Kiri town, Apapa, Lagos at 9.00 p.m. State counsel, Mr Afolabi Sholebo informed the court that the offences
contravened Sections 402 and 403 of the Criminal
Code Laws of Lagos State. At the resumed trial, Sholebo told the court that there
were no witnesses in court and asked for a trial date
to enable him produce witnesses in court which the
defense counsel, Mr O. A Azeez, didn’t object to. The presiding judge, Justice Aishat Opesanwo
subsequently adjourned the case to February 13 for
continuation of trial.

PoliticsEdo To Boost Agric In 2014- Ihovbere by phillippiano(op): 11:30pm On Dec 26, 2013
BENIN — Edo State Government has signed a
Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with 8
international investors who will invest heavily in the
agricultural sector to create employment for youths in
2014. Secretary to Edo State Government, SSG, Prof. Julius
Ihonvbere, who disclosed this during a chat with
professors from Australia and China who were in the
state to seek partnership with the state government
in the agricultural sector, said it was the desire of
Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s administration to ensure the completion of all on-going projects in the
state, as well as invest in the agricultural sector to
create employment for youths. He said: “I believe that the focus of the 2014 budget
demonstrates clearly that following the huge
investment on infrastructure, we will continue to do
that as we complete on-going projects but now want
to move to all those who will use the infrastructure;
the empowerment of youths, women, and community leaders. “For example, in the Ministry of Agriculture, we have
8 MoUs already signed with international investors
who want to go into cassava, rice, palm produce and
fruits, among others. These are not businesses that
would employ less than a thousand persons. “The petro-chemical plant that is on-going now,
when completed, will employ no less than 2,500
persons. It is a huge petro-chemical plant that has
completed its dredging and if you go there, you will
not believe the huge investment. Another 20,000
hectare for cassava production to produce ethanol is on-going too and this is another employment
generation source but private sector driven. “The producers of Indomie noodles have come and
would be producing to distribute to the South-South.
We are not just going to give them land to produce,
but they will go into manufacturing of various
products too. “We are also carrying out revolution in the
educational system. There are very few states that
have tried that and that is because we have quality,
capable and competent heads of ministries and also
driven very hard by the commissioners and the
governor himself.”

PoliticsCAN Declares Fasting And Prayer Tomorrow by phillippiano(op): 11:20pm On Dec 26, 2013
LAGOS—UMBRELLA body of Christians in the country,
the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has declared
tomorrow a day of fasting and prayers for the
security of Nigeria as citizens prepare for the new
year. Making the declaration yesterday, National
President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor said the prayer had become necessary because it was
obvious certain forces were determined to truncate
the destiny of the nation. The cleric explained that in the life of the nation, there
are evil forces raging and threatening the corporate
existence of Nigeria. He urged Nigerians, irrespective of their religious or
ethnic differences to fast and pray for God to destroy
all those who are bent on truncating the destiny of
Nigeria.

Foreign AffairsBritain Hit By Flood, Power Cuts At Xmas. by phillippiano(op): 9:34pm On Dec 25, 2013
Britain hit by floods, power cuts at Christmas Wed, Dec 25 12:49 PM EST LONDON (Reuters) - Tens of thousands of Britons will
remain without electricity on Christmas Day after
torrential rainfall flooded homes and hurricane-force
winds battered the country. Two severe flood alerts are in force along with nearly
300 secondary warnings, largely across southern and
central England, Britain's environment agency said on
Wednesday. Around 50,000 homes are likely to remain without
power throughout Christmas Day according to the
Energy Networks Association which represents wire
and pipe companies. Tens of thousands of people have also had their
power cut off in France where high winds and heavy
rain were still sweeping across the south of the
country. Winds of up to 90 mph hit both Britain and France on
December 23 and Christmas Eve, with downpours
forcing cancellations of rail, flight and ferry services at
a peak travel time. Five people - including a man who tried to rescue his
dog from a river - have died in Britain over the last
three days in accidents linked to the high winds and
heavy rainfall. Police in Dorset, southwest England, evacuated over
100 people in the early hours of Wednesday in two
separate locations due to fears of flooding from a
nearby river. There were more power cuts at London's second
airport Gatwick on Christmas Day as stranded
travelers tried to catch flights. Power failures led to
angry scenes between passengers and staff on
Tuesday. "Due to adverse weather in the last 48 hours there are
still power outages in parts of our North Terminal,
these are causing delays to departing flights," said a
message on the airport's website.

Nafeesa AA: Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso

** Construction of three new flyovers, and the longest flyover in west Africa.

*** Construction of two Hydro electricity project at Challawa dam

** Look at the removal of ‘achaba’ (commercial motorcycle); people never thought it would be possible, but it is history now.

** Kano state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, with a Chinese firm, CCECC, for the construction of a modern intra city railway system in Kano city.

** Northwest University. He has used the Ado Bayero House, which was abandoned for many years, as a temporary site for the university. It has taken off while the permanent site is under construction,

**1,000 post-secondary school leavers with nine credits are sponsored for their first degree in various specialized courses and first-class graduates for their master’s degree programme. Another 500 sent to Igbenidion university for degree programme in Medicine, nursery, pharmacy etc This is unprecedented in the history of Kano.
***

** Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso of Kano state has commissioned 26 magistrate courts constructed and furnished by his administration at the cost of millions of Naira and laid the foundation stone for the construction of 27 Shari’a courts across the
state.

** Gov. Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso of Kano state received the 2012 Zik Prize for Good Governance Award from Chief Sonnie Odogwu supported by the former Chairman of Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan,

** Kano state government has spent over N250 million on the establishment of Kano Corporate Security Institute, as part of its effort to create job opportunities among the teeming unemployed youth and enhance security of lives and property in the state.

*** Apart from the recent free education at all levels he has re-introduced mass education at every local government. There is a centre where he has recruited people to teach basic education to housewives and traders, so that everyone can at least have basic education and be able to read and write. He has also brought a new concept of establishing crafts schools in every local government so that dropouts from secondary schools can go to the crafts school and learn a trade.

** If you go to Kano the streetlights are all functioning, the pavements and roads are working, rehabilitation of culverts and drainages is ongoing. In the night you feel like you are in Dubai. There is also general road infrastructure uplift; all the roads leading to Kano are being expanded with street lights and drainages.

** Construction of 3 new cities, Amana City, Kwankwasiya City and another one along Dambatta Road - all equipped with modern infrastructure that will decongest Kano. This is a laudable project.
