A Chinese female cyclist, Huang Shuang, who rode from Morocco to Lagos, Nigeria, within five months, says she is convinced that anybody can achieve anything he or she determines to do.

Huang, also known as CICI, told our reporters in Lagos on Monday that she was inspired to embark on ‘`cycling around the world’’ after riding around her country.

The cyclist said that her experience in China motivated her to begin global cycling in America where she covered about 5,500 km in two months.

“I am glad that I have also been able to ride from Morocco to Lagos, Nigeria.

“ This is an indication that irrespective of our sex, we can achieve anything we set out to do.

“The whole idea about my cycling started when, one day, I decided to embark on a cycling trip around my country, China.

“After the trip around China, I was motivated to take my first cycling around the world to America, where I covered about 5,500km in two months.

“Now, I am in Lagos from Morocco, after I flew from America to France, where I cycled around Europe for four months, before taking ferry from Spain to Morocco,’’ she said.

Huang said that she always travelled with money, noodles, tent, sleeping bag, clothes and bicycle repair accessories.

The cyclist, who left Morocco for Lagos on Sept. 6, 2017, said that her trip was fascinating though she experienced tiredness, robbery, accidents and sleeping under bridges and in gas stations.

Huang said that she crossed the desert within six days and was well received by many African villages.

The cyclist said that, sometimes, she happily ate local meals made by the villagers.

‘`I have happily sung and danced with children in different African villages and communities where I passed the nights or stopped to cook.

“I have seen the most beautiful sunset, the most stunning mountain views, breath-taking lakes and virgin forests across Africa.

‘`My trip has also exposed me to many African children still living in poverty, hunger, without education and basic amenities,’’ she said.

The Chinese said that she would be cycling to about 33 countries in the next three years, adding that she would continue her cycling from Lagos to Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Angola, Namibia, South Africa, East Africa and some other countries.

Huang said that her cycling was also informed by her desire to interact with children in African communities before inaugurating a free lunch for them in 2018.

The cyclists said that she hoped to raise some money for the benefit to about 2,000 children.

Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has spoken up on the payment of tithe by Christians being kicked against by media personality, Daddy Freeze.

He declared that no Christian should feel compelled to pay tithe as it is not compulsory.

Recall that the General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Adeboye had informed Christians of the dangers attached to none compliance to the payment of tithe.

But speaking with BBC Yoruba, Bakare stated that God will judge any church where the pastor keeps growing fat and their members lean.

“Tithing is not compulsory. No one should feel compelled to pay, no one is holding a gun to their head.

The Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Barkindo, advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to listen to the call by some “empty barrel Nigerian elite’’ that he should not seek a re-election.

Irked by calls by some notable Nigerians that Buhari should not seek a re-election, Barkindo said on Tuesday in Yola that Buhari has achieved a lot and should proceed to seek for a second term.

Buhari who is currently in Yola for a visit, was at the palace of the Lamido to pay homage.

“I am calling you to remain focus, stand firm and don’t listen to the empty barrel Nigerian elite who are calling you not to contest 2019 Presidential election.

“They are burying their heads in shame and telling people that Buhari’s led government has done nothing,” Barkindo noted.

Thanking the Lamido for his support, Buhari said that he had fulfilled major promises made to electorate during his political campaign.

He said that the fight against corruption and maintenance of peace and security were among the priorities of his administration.

“We appreciate security progress in the North East and the country at large.
He explained also that economic development had improved, especially in agriculture.

“We are lucky that for the past two years farmers across the country experienced excellent harvests,” Buhari said.

He said that Federal ministry of agriculture and Central Bank of Nigeria would continue to support famers in years to come in order to sustain sufficient national food production and economy growth.

At least 17 people are dead after a 19-year-old man opened fire at a high school campus in Parkland, Florida, police have said, the BBC reports.

The suspect has been named as Nikolas Cruz, 19, and is a former student at the school who had been expelled.

As the attack unfolded students were forced to hide as police swooped in on the building.

It is one of the deadliest school shootings since 26 people were killed at a Connecticut school in 2012.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told reporters Mr Cruz killed three people outside the school, before entering the building and killing another 12.

Two people later died after being taken to hospital.
“It’s catastrophic. There really are no words,” Sheriff Israel tweeted later.

Dr Evan Boyar of Broward Health told reporters late on Wednesday that 17 people total had been taken to area hospitals.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has told the governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, to address the rot, which he had allegedly brought upon the state, instead of making unguarded comments.

The association advised Bello to focus on rescuing his state from the grip of kidnappers instead of “trying to be the President’s errand boy.”

Bello had on Friday told the Catholic bishopsthat visited President Buhari on Thursday that only looters and those that carried the country’s funds in private jets to South Africa were angry with the current administration.

The media aide to CAN President, Pastor Bayo Oladeji, said that Bello had the rights to express himself, but insisted that what the bishops told the President was the truth about the situation in the country.

He added that the CAN leadership, had raised similar issues with Buhari during a visit in November last year, adding that what the President told the delegation was what he re-echoed during the Catholic Bishops’ visit.

Oladeji, who spoke with Punch on the matter, added that Bello should keep quiet if he had nothing sensible to say.
According to him, “If he (Bello) says some people were looking for free money, he should keep quiet if he has nothing to say.
“Under his watch, people are committing suicide and he has refused to pay workers.

“If he is the one that would be running to Abuja to defend the President, then something is wrong somewhere.

“Go to his (Bello’s ) state and see what is happening there; Okene is now the headquarters of kidnapping.

“If the welfare of his people is not his concern, he shouldn’t force the President to follow in his steps. If he wants to become the President’s errand boy, he should resign and relocate to Abuja.”

An inmate has sued Oregon Department of Corrections staff for failing to serve meals that observe his Muslim faith.
Rashid Kambarov, 29, who is serving a sentence for rape, filed a complaint this week in U.S. District Court in Pendleton.
He is a legal permanent resident from Turkey and is incarcerated at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla. He is suing the superintendent of Two Rivers, Troy Bowser, and other administrators at the prison.
Betty Bernt, spokeswoman for the Department of Corrections, on Tuesday declined to comment, saying the agency does not comment on pending litigation.
Bernt said the agency accommodates inmates' requests for religious diets by offering a "meat alternative tray" or a kosher diet prepared in accordance with Jewish law. To request a kosher diet, an inmate must speak with the prison chaplain, said Bernt.
Kambarov claims he is not served halal meat and that vegetarian alternatives have been cross-contaminated with pork, a forbidden food for Muslims. Halal refers to food and drink prepared in accordance with Islamic dietary laws.
He claims the state’s failure to accommodate his religion violates the First and 14th Amendments and the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Person Act of 2000, which bars state and local jails and prisons from imposing arbitrary limits on inmates’ religious practices.
According to the suit, Kambarov asked for and was denied a special diet to accommodate his faith when he was sent to prison in 2015.
He says he was told that the department offers Muslim inmates a “pork-free meat alternative diet” that includes fresh and cooked fruits and vegetables.
He says he was told that the food would not come into contact with pork or alcohol, halal requirements.
Kambarov said he was also told the vegetarian option “is the best option for a Muslim.” However, Kambarov said he witnessed kitchen staff handling vegetarian meals as well as salami.
In other instances, he said he was served soup he later learned contained pork and watched staff use the same knife to cut vegetables and ham.
He said his requests for kosher meals, which are prepared in accordance with Jewish law, were rejected by prison staff. Kosher requirements satisfy Muslim dietary restrictions, he said.
The suit doesn’t list a dollar amount in damages.

New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) is calling on Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg to take immediate action on what he calls Facebook’s “shameful” exclusion of Israel. Hikind says that, when creating a background profile on Facebook, users are given 50 nationality options. These options, he claims, include Palestine, while Israel is conspicuously absent.
