Marriage counselors usually focus on health issues like genotype and HIV/AIDS, without considering the educational aspect. The new trend of children having very low Is however, worrisome. There is therefore, every need to seek for a solution to the problem and that should be sought right before marriage If your credits in either WAEC or NECO plus those of your spouse is less than five, don't consider going ahead with the marriage. Even if you are full, your partner should be bright enough to balance the equation.

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially communicated his withdrawal of interest in being part of President Bola Tinubu's cabinet. During a meeting held on Tuesday, August 08, 2023, between El-Rufai and President Tinubu, the former governor conveyed his decision to no longer pursue a ministerial position, clarifying that he intends to contribute to the development of Nigeria as a private citizen. In a report by Premium Times, El-Rufai also cited his ongoing commitment to a doctorate program at a university in The Netherlands as a primary reason for his withdrawal from the cabinet candidacy. El-Rufai took the opportunity to propose Jafaru Ibrahim Sani as a suitable replacement for the Kaduna State ministerial slot. Sani, who served as a commissioner in various ministries within Kaduna State during El-Rufai's tenure as governor, has been put forward as a competent candidate by the former governor. During the meeting with President Tinubu, El-Rufai acknowledged his awareness of the Senate's decision and expressed his intention to discuss the matter with the president. President Tinubu, on his part, informed El-Rufai that he had received petitions critical of the former governor's ministerial nomination. He requested a 24-hour window to review these petitions, as well as the SSS report submitted to the Senate, before making a final decision. At this juncture, El-Rufai raised concerns about the emergence of potential hindrances orchestrated by certain individuals around the president that could block his path to becoming a federal minister. This realisation led him to firmly declare his withdrawal from the ministerial pursuit. It is noteworthy that during El-Rufai's confirmation hearing on August 1, he disclosed that President Tinubu had assigned him the task of addressing Nigeria's power challenges. The president had set a seven-year target to resolve the persistent issue of power outages in the country. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.pulse.ng/news/local/el-rufai-withdraws-ministerial-nomination-from-president-tinubu/qsfghsj.amp&ved=2ahUKEwiYwaamltSAAxWAXEEAHQy-AuUQFnoECAgQAQ&usg=AOvVaw3LDswIA6tkvn11Pou3Mjlk

The Federal Government has closed the country’s border with the Republic of Niger following the recent military takeover in the West African country. This was as President Bola Tinubu on Friday wrote to the Senate seeking its support for military intervention against the junta in the Niger Republic. The Nigeria Customs Service acting Comptroller, Bashir Adewale, had on Friday in Magamar-Jibia, Nigeria’s` border with the Niger Republic, officially announced the closure of all Nigeria’s land borders with the neighbouring country as a result of the current political development there. The NCS boss said the closure of land borders order was issued by President Tinubu in line with the decision arrived at by ECOWAS. Recall that Tinubu, Nigeria’s President and the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States, had on Sunday met with some fellow ECOWAS leaders to discuss appropriate ways to restore democracy in Niger. The leaders of the West African regional bloc met to discuss sanctions to be placed against the military personnel who toppled Mohamed Bazoum on July 26, 2023. The leader of the junta, General Abdourahmane Tchiani-led was said to be considering recalling the Nigerien Ambassador to Nigeria after failing to come to terms with ECOWAS and Nigerian delegations on the need to return democracy to Niger. Speaking on the closure of the Nigerian border with Niger, Adewale declared that there would be no movement of goods from Nigeria to Niger and vice versa until further notice. The Custom’s boss said, “My being in Magamar-Jibia, Nigeria border with the Niger Republic this afternoon is to announce the total blockade of movements of goods to the Niger Republic through all Nigeria land borders. “The NCS, workings in synergy with other sister agencies will enforce the blockade order as given by President Bola Tinubu who is also the current Chairman of ECOWAS. “The ECOWAS leaders collectively took the decision against the Niger Republic to kick against the military putsch in the Niger Republic.” Adewale also met some of the stakeholders at Magamar-Jibia and pleaded for their understanding and cooperation with the NCS to see to the full implementation of the blockade order. Meanwhile, President Tinubu, in his letter to the Senate, sought the backing of the legislature on the cutting off of electricity to the country. The President’s letter read, “Following the unfortunate political situation in Niger Republic culminating in the overthrow of its President, ECOWAS under my leadership condemned the coup in its entirety and resolved to seek the return of the democratically elected govt in a bid to restore peace, ECOWAS convened a meeting and came out with a communiqué.” The President further sought support for, “military build-up and deployment of personnel for military intervention to enforce compliance of the military junta in Niger should they remain recalcitrant. “Closure and monitoring of all land borders with the Niger Republic and reactivating of the border drilling exercise, cutting off electricity supply to the Niger Republic, mobilising international support for the implementation of the provisions of the ECOWAS communique.” The letter further read, “Preventing the operation of commercial and special flights into and from Niger Republic; blockade of goods in transit to Niger especially from Lagos and eastern seaports.” Tinubu also told the Senate that the country was embarking on the sensitisation of Nigerians and Nigeriens to the imperative of these actions, particularly via social media. Northern Senators reject military action In a related development, the Northern Senators Forum has cautioned against the use of military power toward tackling the military coup in Niger Republic, calling for diplomatic options to address the situation. Senator Suleiman Kawu(NNPP-Kano), the spokesperson for the forum, said this when he briefed newsmen in Abuja on Friday. “The forum under the leadership of Sen. Abdul Ningi (PDP-Bauchi), has noted with concern and condemn in entirety the unfortunate development in Niger Republic, where the military forcefully upstaged a democratically elected government of President Mohamed Bazoum. “The Northern Senators also take cognisance of the efforts of the ECOWAS leaders under the chairmanship of our dear President, Bola Tinubu, in resolving the situation in Niger Republic. “The emphasis however, is that we should be focused on political and diplomatic means to restore democratic government in Niger Republic,” he said. Kawu added: “We also take exception to use of the of military force until other avenues as mentioned above are exhausted as the consequences will be casualties among the innocent citizens who go about their daily business. “Besides, about seven northern states who share border with Niger Republic namely Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Yobe and Borno will be negatively affected. “We are also aware of the situation of Mali, Burkina Faso and Libya, which may affect the seven northern states, if military force is used.” https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://punchng.com/niger-fg-shuts-border-northern-senators-reject-military-invention/%3Famp&ved=2ahUKEwj4yq-Eo8SAAxXlWkEAHWmtCSIQr_oDKAB6BAgLEAE&usg=AOvVaw3znl_c15LBdt0RFQMsaEKN |

Anytime I think of America, I see the images of Presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush, Barrack Obama, Donald Trump, while it's the image of Putin that I first see when I think of Russia. It's Ramaphosa for South Africa. I think that's how others' visualization patterns are formed. The way the world see Nigeria is as follows.

One of the ministerial nominees facing the Senate screening, Prof Joseph Utsev (Benue State), was thoroughly grilled after an age discrepancy was spotted in his certificate. The nominee had in his certificate stated that he was born in 1980 and finished secondary school in 1989. The error was spotted by Lagos lawmaker, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, who stated that something must have been missing. The Senator pointed out that according to his Curriculum Vitae, he was born in 1980 and started his primary education three years after in 1984, and finished secondary school in 1989. The Senate President, GodsWill Akpabio, then called upon the Benue lawmaker, Senator Abba Moro, to speak up as they were likely to be classmates. Akpabio said, “He was three years old when he started his primary education. He finished six years later. He was the classmate of Abba Moro, let us also see if he (Moro) started primary school at age three.” Moro, in his defence, noted that it was a typographical error stating the nominee was very notable. “The discrepancy probably came from a typographical error. Let us give him the benefit of the doubt. He has sufficiently discharged himself and he should be asked to take a bow and go.” The Benue Caucus in the Senate also noted that they were in support of Utsev stating that it was a minor error that should not rob him of his qualification. Senator Eliaha Abbo said the issue of starting primary school at age three was not a problem given his academic attainment and the positions he had held in the past. “I did Common Entrance Examination in Primary three and I won (passed). You may have been exceptionally brilliant like me. We are on national television, I don’t want anybody to get from here to doubt his academic attainment and integrity. That issue has been laid to rest,” he said. Utsev, thereafter, answered questions on water resources asked by Senators Abdulaziz Yari (APC, Zamfara West) and Sani Musa (APC, Niger East). After answering questions about what he would do if made the Minister of Water Resources in the area of dams, Utsev was asked to take a bow and go. Some of the nominees that have been screened are; Abubakar Momoh (Edo State), and former River State governor, Nyesom Wike. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://punchng.com/benue-ministerial-nominee-grilled-over-age/%3Famp&ved=2ahUKEwjjzZPUv7uAAxVCh1wKHXCkDiwQ0PADKAB6BAgIEAE&usg=AOvVaw2crPl-AmPKJEAqEFjmNK6k

Idoma tribe has rejected the ministerial nominee from Benue State, Professor Joseph Utsev and calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sack the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr George Akume. Speaking on behalf of the Idoma nation, a coalition of Idoma professionals led by Hon. Inalegwu Adaje said in a press statement that the “recent ministerial nomination is a serious violation of section 14 subsection 3 of the 1999 Constitution as amended”. The Idoma people of Benue State have raised the alarm that they have been sidelined in political appointments, both at federal and state levels of government under President Bola Tinubu and Governor Hyacinth Alia. Speaking on behalf of the Idoma nation, a coalition of Idoma professionals led by Hon. Inalegwu Adaje said in a press statement that the “recent ministerial nomination is a serious violation of section 14 subsection 3 of the 1999 Constitution as amended”. Joseph Utsav is the ministerial nominee from Benue State. Mr Utsev, a civil engineer and former Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Wanune in Tarka LGA of Benue State, was a commissioner in the administration of former governor Samuel Ortom in the state. Adaje further said, “What we have in Benue today is one tribe dominating everything as if we don’t have equal rights as Nigerians. “The governor is a Tiv man, Speaker of the State House of Assembly is a Tiv man, Chief Judge of the State is Tiv, Chief of Staff to the governor is a Tiv man, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) is a Tiv man, member of Board, North East Development, Federal level appointments all Tiv. We reject this in totality and call for inclusiveness.” The coalition leader frowned on the alleged deliberate plan led by the SGF to sideline other tribes in Benue. He, therefore, called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately sack the SGF, Mr George Akume. “The constitution is very clear and unambiguous, the composition of the government of the Federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the federal character of Nigeria and the need to promote national unity, and also to command national loyalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of persons from a few State or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups in that Government or any of its agencies. “Does having SGF and Minister, all from the same ethnic group (Tiv) from a multi-ethnic Benue State in the President Tinubu led Federal Government (cabinet) not amount to breach or violation of S.14,S.s 3 of Nigeria’s Constitution?” “And in a situation where the constitution is perceived to be breached or violated, are we not supposed to cry out or draw the attention of the authorities to such violation?” “We, therefore, call on President Tinubu to do the needful as soon as possible,” the statement said. https://saharareporters.com/2023/07/30/idoma-nation-rejects-tinubus-ministerial-nominee-benue-wants-secretary-government-akume
