Celebrities / BBNaijaAllStars: Tiv Nation Demands Apology From Venita Over Defamation by phylshan: 3:58pm On Sep 20, 2023
Apex Tiv sociocultural organisation, Mdzough U Tiv, Lagos State chapter, has demanded a public apology from #BBNaijaAllStar housemate Venita over alleged defamation..

Venita has been under fire after she asserted in the reality show that “Tiv men give their wives to visitors for entertainment purposes.”

Reacting in a statement by its president, Engr. Theophilus Ukaa and Secretary, Anagbe Terungwa, the Lagos State chapter of Mdzough U Tiv demanded an “incontrovertible and unreserved public apology from her whilst she still has the global media platform
The group said Venita’s statement “is not only a falsehood taken too far but an aspersion cast on not just an individual but an entire tribe.”

“Mdrough U Tiv Lagos State Chapter received with absolute displeasure a trending video which purportedly captured a house mate of the globally popular reality television show Big Brother Naija-BBN, who is referred to as VENITA AKPOFURE, who on the international television show reportedly said the falsehood that the Tiv of North Central Nigeria arguably the fourth largest ethnic group, as their culture gives out their wives for nuptial pleasure to their guests.

“This statement is not only a falsehood taken too far, but an aspersion cast on not just an individual but an entire tribe, and we take a very strong objection to this unwarranted provocation against our Tiv tribe.

“The said Venita Akpofure is reportedly a former wife of a Tiv man from an important family in the Tiv Nation, they are now divorced, so we expect that she should know better and despite the facts of the divorce, she is said to have children from her former marriage, as such we expect that she should be an ambassador of truth for her children’s sakes.

“That the said Venita Alpeture has decided to band up with evil conspirators intent on image battery of the Tiv Nation and rather champion a course for demeaning her children race, we demand an incontrovertible and unreserved public apology from her whilst she still has the global media platform,” the statement reads..

The group added that it has directed its lawyers to kick start a legal action against Venita “towards seeking legal redress for this libelous infraction against an entire tribe.”

Marriage counselors usually focus on health issues like genotype and HIV/AIDS, without considering the educational aspect. The new trend of children having very low Is however, worrisome. There is therefore, every need to seek for a solution to the problem and that should be sought right before marriage
If your credits in either WAEC or NECO plus those of your spouse is less than five, don't consider going ahead with the marriage. Even if you are full, your partner should be bright enough to balance the equation.

Politics / El-rufai Withdraws Interest In Ministerial Nomination by phylshan: 9:20am On Aug 11, 2023
Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially communicated his withdrawal of interest in being part of President Bola Tinubu's cabinet.
During a meeting held on Tuesday, August 08, 2023, between El-Rufai and President Tinubu, the former governor conveyed his decision to no longer pursue a ministerial position, clarifying that he intends to contribute to the development of Nigeria as a private citizen. In a report by Premium Times, El-Rufai also cited his ongoing commitment to a doctorate program at a university in The Netherlands as a primary reason for his withdrawal from the cabinet candidacy.

El-Rufai took the opportunity to propose Jafaru Ibrahim Sani as a suitable replacement for the Kaduna State ministerial slot. Sani, who served as a commissioner in various ministries within Kaduna State during El-Rufai's tenure as governor, has been put forward as a competent candidate by the former governor.

During the meeting with President Tinubu, El-Rufai acknowledged his awareness of the Senate's decision and expressed his intention to discuss the matter with the president.

President Tinubu, on his part, informed El-Rufai that he had received petitions critical of the former governor's ministerial nomination. He requested a 24-hour window to review these petitions, as well as the SSS report submitted to the Senate, before making a final decision.

At this juncture, El-Rufai raised concerns about the emergence of potential hindrances orchestrated by certain individuals around the president that could block his path to becoming a federal minister. This realisation led him to firmly declare his withdrawal from the ministerial pursuit.

It is noteworthy that during El-Rufai's confirmation hearing on August 1, he disclosed that President Tinubu had assigned him the task of addressing Nigeria's power challenges. The president had set a seven-year target to resolve the persistent issue of power outages in the country.

Politics / Army Will Defend Nigeria's Democracy At All Costs - COAS by phylshan: 9:54pm On Aug 05, 2023
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has declared that the Nigerian military will always defend the nation’s democracy at all costs using every constitutional means.

Lt. General Lagbaja spoke at the Passing Out Parade of officers of Executive Commission Course One of the Army School of Infantry, Jaji, Kaduna State, on Saturday.

“He emphasized that the desire of every Nigerian is a flourishing, uninterrupted constitutional democratic governance, that promotes national values and the interest of every well-meaning Nigerian, irrespective of ethnic or religious affiliation,” the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, said in a statement.

Neighbouring Niger Republic became the latest West African country to experience a military coup.

He is assuring of the unalloyed loyalty and commitment of officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army to stoutly defend the nation’s territorial integrity and ensure internal security against non-state actors such as Boko Haram terrorists, bandits, Indigenous People of Biafra (POB) and other criminal elements.

The COAS, however, warned that the activities of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province terrorist groups in the North East, kidnappings and banditry in the North West and North Central as well as secessionist agitations by IPOB in the South East could undermine the nation’s cherished corporate existence and national security if they not immediately nipped in the bud.

The Army chief is asking the graduating officers to get ready for work.

According to the Army chief, the graduating officers must therefore brace up for the arduous task ahead. He said most of them will be deployed to the battlefields where their services are highly needed to surmount all security threats.

He is also warning the officers against indulging in any form of insubordination and to remain apolitical in discharging their constitutional duties of protecting their fatherland.

“I, therefore, charge all Nigerian Army personnel to be proud champions of our flourishing democracy and remain apolitical in discharging their constitutional duties,” the COAS added.

Politics / Niger Coup: Northern Senators Reject Military Intervention by phylshan: 1:28am On Aug 05, 2023
The Federal Government has closed the country’s border with the Republic of Niger following the recent military takeover in the West African country.

This was as President Bola Tinubu on Friday wrote to the Senate seeking its support for military intervention against the junta in the Niger Republic.

The Nigeria Customs Service acting Comptroller, Bashir Adewale, had on Friday in Magamar-Jibia, Nigeria’s` border with the Niger Republic, officially announced the closure of all Nigeria’s land borders with the neighbouring country as a result of the current political development there.

The NCS boss said the closure of land borders order was issued by President Tinubu in line with the decision arrived at by ECOWAS.

Recall that Tinubu, Nigeria’s President and the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States, had on Sunday met with some fellow ECOWAS leaders to discuss appropriate ways to restore democracy in Niger.

The leaders of the West African regional bloc met to discuss sanctions to be placed against the military personnel who toppled Mohamed Bazoum on July 26, 2023.

The leader of the junta, General Abdourahmane Tchiani-led was said to be considering recalling the Nigerien Ambassador to Nigeria after failing to come to terms with ECOWAS and Nigerian delegations on the need to return democracy to Niger.

Speaking on the closure of the Nigerian border with Niger, Adewale declared that there would be no movement of goods from Nigeria to Niger and vice versa until further notice.

The Custom’s boss said, “My being in Magamar-Jibia, Nigeria border with the Niger Republic this afternoon is to announce the total blockade of movements of goods to the Niger Republic through all Nigeria land borders.

“The NCS, workings in synergy with other sister agencies will enforce the blockade order as given by President Bola Tinubu who is also the current Chairman of ECOWAS.

“The ECOWAS leaders collectively took the decision against the Niger Republic to kick against the military putsch in the Niger Republic.”

Adewale also met some of the stakeholders at Magamar-Jibia and pleaded for their understanding and cooperation with the NCS to see to the full implementation of the blockade order.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu, in his letter to the Senate, sought the backing of the legislature on the cutting off of electricity to the country.

The President’s letter read, “Following the unfortunate political situation in Niger Republic culminating in the overthrow of its President, ECOWAS under my leadership condemned the coup in its entirety and resolved to seek the return of the democratically elected govt in a bid to restore peace, ECOWAS convened a meeting and came out with a communiqué.”

The President further sought support for, “military build-up and deployment of personnel for military intervention to enforce compliance of the military junta in Niger should they remain recalcitrant.

“Closure and monitoring of all land borders with the Niger Republic and reactivating of the border drilling exercise, cutting off electricity supply to the Niger Republic, mobilising international support for the implementation of the provisions of the ECOWAS communique.”

The letter further read, “Preventing the operation of commercial and special flights into and from Niger Republic; blockade of goods in transit to Niger especially from Lagos and eastern seaports.”

Tinubu also told the Senate that the country was embarking on the sensitisation of Nigerians and Nigeriens to the imperative of these actions, particularly via social media.

Northern Senators reject military action

In a related development, the Northern Senators Forum has cautioned against the use of military power toward tackling the military coup in Niger Republic, calling for diplomatic options to address the situation.

Senator Suleiman Kawu(NNPP-Kano), the spokesperson for the forum, said this when he briefed newsmen in Abuja on Friday.

“The forum under the leadership of Sen. Abdul Ningi (PDP-Bauchi), has noted with concern and condemn in entirety the unfortunate development in Niger Republic, where the military forcefully upstaged a democratically elected government of President Mohamed Bazoum.

“The Northern Senators also take cognisance of the efforts of the ECOWAS leaders under the chairmanship of our dear President, Bola Tinubu, in resolving the situation in Niger Republic.

“The emphasis however, is that we should be focused on political and diplomatic means to restore democratic government in Niger Republic,” he said.

Kawu added: “We also take exception to use of the of military force until other avenues as mentioned above are exhausted as the consequences will be casualties among the innocent citizens who go about their daily business.

“Besides, about seven northern states who share border with Niger Republic namely Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Yobe and Borno will be negatively affected.

“We are also aware of the situation of Mali, Burkina Faso and Libya, which may affect the seven northern states, if military force is used.”

Anytime I think of America, I see the images of Presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush, Barrack Obama, Donald Trump, while it's the image of Putin that I first see when I think of Russia. It's Ramaphosa for South Africa. I think that's how others' visualization patterns are formed.
The way the world see Nigeria is as follows.
