OPINION: Former Governor of Benue State and current Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume has been having political tussles with all Governor since he handed over power to his successor, Senator Gabriel Suswam. The former senate Minority Leader who also served as Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs had engaged Senator Suswam in an endless tussle that defied all reconciliation efforts, culminating to the Tor Tiv palace on 26 June, 2011 when the paramount ruler waded into the dispute. Suswam was succeed by Dr Samuel Ortom through the efforts of Senator Akume who acted as his political godfather. However the relationship between the godfather and the godson soon turned sour, again ending at the palace where Tor Tiv settled their face-off on 11th September, 2021. Only recently, Akume who now occupies the coveted position of SGF was at the palace with the incumbent Governor of the State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hycienth Alia, whom he helped ascend to the position of Governor. The meeting which took place on 2nd April, 2024 at the instance of the Tor Tiv, was again, for the reconciliation of Dr. Akume and Fr. Alia. However, experience shows that, none of the reconciliation efforts with Akume ever translated to peace. It was after the reconciliation efforts of 2011 that Akume fought Suswam, ensuring that he lost his senate bid to Senator Barnabas Gemade. In the aftermath of the 2018 reconciliation efforts, Akume again fought Ortom and ensured he lost his senate bid to Senator Titus Zam Whether the intervention of the paramount ruler this time will bring about lasting peace between Akume and Alia is what one waits anxiously to see as events unfold.

One wonders why the Punch had to include Benue State in the list, and why they end made Benue number one on the list when the State has not taken any loan since assumption of office. |
THE GOVERNMENT OF REV. FR. ALIA HAS NOT BORROWED ANY MONEY SINCE INAUGURATION IN MAY 2023.https://www.facebook.com/100000207774944/posts/pfbid0TWuF9FXEUSNZccwXktAXxjbkDETBXPBCD8Kvk63DPjN8rLaQDAecpwQySoqyLT8Nl/?app=fbl

kokoA:Will you advise Tinubiu to abandon Abuja and concentrate on Owukpa? |
christejames:Don't mind him, what he painted was a wrong picture, the Governor's developmental strides are all embracing. Besides, all stakeholders efforts in Benue State cannot defeat the Tiv who are by far, the most populous. The total population of Idoma, Igede and others is not half the population of the Tiv. Politically, the Tiv have by far, greater heavy weights than all other tribes in Benue State combined. |
kokoA:You guys are rather being clannish here. How can you label a government that is barely nine months in office in that light simply because Otukpo is not yet touched directly? Should the Governor leave Makurdi, the biggest town and Gboko, the second biggest town and start with Otukpo because Otukpo is in Idoma land? Please you guys should be reasonable for once. |
BafanaBafana:You will change your words within the first four years |
MisterBanny:Of course, he is following the steps of the Late Apollos Aper Aku and the Late Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu |
christejames:Fr does not care whether Idoma leaders are selfish or not. His development efforts will be felt everywhere not just Otukpo. |
Saao:He is just starting. The train will soon reach Otukpo |

pandax:Good observation. Yet, we are still saying the same thing. The tip could include how he should play the kick as captured. |
African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen was seen advising Nigeria's Captain, William Troost-Ekong when he was obligated to take a penalty kick. Following this advice, Ekong executed a world -class straight- at- the - keeper kick, comparable to a C. Ronaldo or L. Messi penalty kick. For a defender, a strong side taking instead of the miild, frontal strike was expected. However, this strategy adopted by the player could be part of the advice given to him by Osimhen.

The State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress in Benue late hours of Wednesday ratified the appointment of Benjamin Omakolo as the party’s acting chairman. The meeting which held at the old banquet hall of the government house lasted till 10:45 pm and was presided by the State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia. The state executive committee comprises the state executive, principal officers of the State Assembly, the state working committee and local government party chairmen and secretaries. Speaking, Governor Alia stated that the meeting which was conveyed at his instance was to fill the vacuum created by the suspension of the state chairman of the party, Austin Agada by his ward executive, Ihaje ward council. The governor stated that the situation became necessary following the court order which restrained the suspended chairman from parading himself as party chair. He said, “Most people, particularly, elders from Zone C, having seen the unfolding event in the party called me and said that we should not allow this party to sink because everyone worked tirelessly for the victory of the party. ” It holds prospective future of late but the suspension of Agada by his ward exco is worrisome and the court decision restraining him from parading himself as chairman has created a vacuum. “And party elders from Zone C wanted the replacement, we can’t wait further to fill the space for the party to function well. “It became an honor for me to fill the vacant position, it behooves me to now call Benjamin Omakolo the current welfare officer of the state committee to take over pending when court issues are resolved. “It is necessary that APC members in the state will not be disenfranchised, the acting chairman will have to take over to oversee the affairs of the party Earlier, the party organising secretary in the state, James Orgunga, lamented that the party in the state had been in disarray since the suspension of the party chairman and subsequent court order which stopped the chairman from carrying out activities. He noted that for a while, the provision of the party constitution to hold state executive committee meetings to be presided over by the governor had been violated. He said that the state working committee members were in the seat of power at the instance of the governor and were waiting to hear from him. In their separate remarks, the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Aondona Dajoh, the Secretary of the APC in Ogbadibo Local Government, Comrade Abba Isaiah, and the Chairman of the APC in Konshisha Local Government, all appreciated the zone (C) APC stakeholders for mounting pressure on the governor to fill the vacant position of the state chairman. In his acceptance speech, the acting State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Benjamin Omakolo said he was overwhelmed by the trust the party faithful in the state reposed in him, promising to unite the party, strategically placing it in a position to win more elections in the future. The party had since the assumption of the present administration been enmeshed in an internal crisis orchestrated by loyalists of both the governor and Secretary to the government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. However, both leaders at separate fora have dismissed it accusing political jobbers of being behind what they described as rumour. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://punchng.com/benue-apc-gets-acting-chairman/%3Famp&ved=2ahUKEwjl3pqAtpuEAxWbUkEAHRI7BrcQFnoECA8QAQ&usg=AOvVaw1yms2SscK99kXvr_4obTAF
