Dear sir/madam. this is a complaint message from a sad experience and a bitter heart MTN customer. unfortunately i use a windows mobile phone and i subscribe to mtn blackberry bbc monthly bis. so i change my phone apn to blackberry.net . at first it work fine, but since last week monday it stopped to connect. initially i thought it was network problem but i later learnt that it was deliberate act by mtn to blocked non blackberry users, i have two question, one is why is “empty hen” fond of giving something with one hand and then takes 20 with the other hand? two, what is so special about blackberry phones that only blackberry users can enjoy such benefits? considering the fact blackberry is losing it and people are now going android and others.. umm? i suspect this initially before opt in, my regret is i would've opt into Aitel bis as it has been working well on any device. chei.. the story now would've been deferent. my mistake. i cannot browse since last week monday and my balance says i am in fair usage and expires next month. my opinion is how can this be rectify because i need to finish my subscription on my device before i work away. so i urge your company to rectify this problem as money is not growing on trees. aitel would've been my option if this was forseen. i will be looking forward to your future policy that will favor the common man. regards one disappointed customer
![]() |
Smartphones are susceptible to malware and carriers have enabled NSA snooping, but the prevailing wisdom has it there’s still one part of your mobile phone that remains safe and un-hackable: your SIM card. Yet after three years of research, German cryptographer Karsten Nohl claims to have finally found encryption and software flaws that could affect millions of SIM cards, and open up another route on mobile phones for surveillance and fraud. Nohl, who will be presenting his findings at the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas on July 31, says his is the first hack of its kind in a decade, and comes after he and his team tested close to 1,000 SIM cards for vulnerabilities, exploited by simply sending a hidden SMS. The two-part flaw, based on an old security standard and badly configured code, could allow hackers to remotely infect a SIM with a virus that sends premium text messages (draining a mobile phone bill), surreptitiously re-direct and record calls, and — with the right combination of bugs — carry out payment system fraud. Payment fraud could be a particular problem for mobile phone users in Africa, where SIM-card based payments are widespread. The deployment of so-called NFC payment technology, already slow to take off, could also be at risk, Nohl says, as well as the ability for carriers to track charges to each caller’s account. There’s no obvious pattern to the flaw beyond the premise of an older encryption standard. “Different shipments of SIM cards either have [the bug] or not,” says Nohl, who is chief scientist at risk management firm Security Research Labs. “It’s very random.” In his study, Nohl says just under a quarter of all the SIM cards he tested could be hacked, but given that encryption standards vary widely between countries, he estimates an eighth of the world’s SIM cards could be vulnerable, or about half a billion mobile devices. Rexyl: First it was Glo but now it is the MTN that has cheated all of their BIS subscribers by suddenly stopping BIS data subscriptions on smartphones. They first deceived us by luring us into their BIS plans at bearable prices. While many of us were just beginning to enjoy the data subscribed for, MTN suddenly stopped us from using what we paid for. Do they think they can be cheating us like that? Mine subscription suddenly stopped without using one-tenth of the service I paid for. Still they think raking several millions of Naira from us by fraud such as this is the best way to make it Nigeria. If the NCC can not come to our rescue I think concerned individuals should be able to fight this injustice and safeguard their rights. We shouldn‘t be denied easy access to internet service at convenient times and at and affordable prices. I know Nigerian will always find a way to make something work even when people that are entrusted with proper operation of a system are handicapped. pls what is the way to affordable data service in Nigeria?agreed |
