mrmetoo1: People protested subsidy removal only because they were looking at their pockets, nothing more. If politicians took advantage of it, they're just being politicians. Oil prices are low now meaning they can remove it without affecting people's pockets while it's still low. Subsidy can be removed without people feeling the effect. There's nothing political about this, you guys don't need to look at everything from an APC vs PDP lens, sometimes some things are common sense The "Politicians" you mentioned are now in power and suddenly, subsidy is now the only way out for us. If PDP had won the election, they would still campaign against the subsidy so who is decieving who? They removed subsidy yet set a pump price for the product, isn't this laughable? I have been buying fuel @ N130/litre. There is no need to be insultive, I am not hoodwinked, I know when I am being lied to. |

Politics › Re: Stop Lieing To Nigerians, We Are Not Winning The War- Soldiers Cry Out by Pidggin(f): 2:08pm On Jan 07, 2016 |
boluwatife66: Editor’s note: A Nigerian army soldier headquarted in Maiduguri, who does not want to disclose his personality, came up with a warning letter to the Nigerian government. He brought forward eight crucial questions the Muhammadu Buhari administration should provide answers to by the end of January, otherwise the soldiers promise to organise a large-scale strike to draw the attention of the government to their problems. We, the soldiers in Maiduguri, are losing patience, and we are planning massive protests in the country by January; then they will know our pains. Here are the questions we want them to answer. 1. Is the Nigerian army really winning the war against the insurgency? We are not winning the war against these people, if you will. Come to any location across Maiduguri and interview the soldiers one by one – then you will know the pains we are passing through here. They keep deceiving Nigerians on media, sitting down in Abuja and telling the people what is happening in the theatre. Let them come and stay in these environment. READ ALSO: Can The Nigerian Army Win The War Against Boko Haram? READ ALSO: Nigerian Boko Haram Says Military Not Winning War Against Terror 2. Are we really paid our entitlement as the soldiers who fight and die for their nation? Why has Dambazau, who is now the minister of interior, suspended our allowances: TC allowance and furniture allowance? Why are the navy and the air forces still being paid their money? These questions should be forwarded to Dambazau. READ ALSO: How Much Nigerian Soldiers Are Paid 3. Are the soldiers really equipped with good weapons to counter insurgents? Recently some weaponry has been brought, however, most weapons we now use were bought by Goodluck Jonathan, when he postponed the last presidential election for six weeks, and the captured terrain was regained. 4. What are the tactics used in the war? I must tell you there are no specific tactics being used. Whenever we go for any operation, we just move; most officers are so afraid that they just push the poor soldiers forward for them to remain at the rear. 5. Are we attacking the terrorists, or we are still sitting in ambush, waiting for them? We are still sitting in ambush. Why is it so? The best form of defence is always attack. We wait for insurgents to attack and kill soldiers for nothing. The officers may lie to us that jet has bombarded the terrorists, and we should only go for mopping up. However, getting there we are likely see them waiting for us 5 km from the camp. There are saboteurs both of the upper and lower rank in the armed forces and the government. 6. Does the president visit the troops or send delegations to boost their morale? What does President Muhammadu Buhari do to boost the morale of the troops in the war zone? Does he send delegations to visit us? No! He will never do this. Why is it so? Don’t get me wrong: the president is really trying to make sure the war is coming to an end. READ ALSO: Can Buhari Defeat Boko Haram? READ ALSO: Nigeria Boko Haram: Militants ‘Technically Defeated’ – Buhari 7. Why do they sentence our fellow colleagues to 10-year imprisonments? Why those generals stealing billions of naira are still walking and driving all over the country freely? There are the soldiers who were praying for Muhammadu Buhari to win during the last election so that he could at least understand since he was once in the system. Some of these poor soldiers are the bread winners in their families, I must tell you. But look at the outcome now. Where are those who stole the money meant to purchase arms for the troops, where are those who stole $1 billion? I feel that TB Joshua’s prophesy is coming into reality now. 8. How much is the operational allowance paid to the troops? Why are we not paid our entitlement, even those who fought and died for their fatherland? When their families come to carry the corps, we are the ones to give them money to convey the corps. They pay us just N30, 000 for an operation. Why do we work like elephants, and eat like ants in this country? Moreover, you will never see the money in two-three months. When we are out of town, our feeding is nothing to write home about. Most commanding officers spend the allowances meant for our colleagues lying in the hospital shot. Where is the e-payment President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to provide the armed forces with? Let our salaries come directly from the CBN, and then nobody will have a chance to eat our money. I must tell you the soldiers here are sick and tired of the everyday propaganda. If we don’t see any improvements by the end of January, there will be arrangements to vent our anger. You know what it means when soldiers strike in the country. Those who sit under air conditioners eating our money will see us in full force.https://www.naij.com/685062-nigerian-army-soldier-warns-government-going-strike-january-unless.html Seriously?! |

Kikero112: The campaign was masses driven. The parties that eventually formed the APC merely jumped on the bandwagon for relevance sake.
And as I have said elsewhere.....most Nigerians don't like paying high prices for petrol.....even when it is clearly for their benefit.
(I backed subsidy removal for a long time....even though I oppose PDP).
As for APC proposing subsidy removal now....a lot of water has passed under the bridge since 2012. Back then, oil was selling at $111 per barrel.Now....it is selling at $37 per barrel. And we earn our money from selling oil...including the money we would use to subsidise it.
In other words....anyone who supported subsidy in 2012 would have a rethink right now.We do not have the money.(And let's be honest....IMF has been telling us that since 1993. But Nigerians don't listen).But...as I said, most Nigerians then, as now, won't see the benefit of removing subsidies. They only see that they have to pay higher prices for fuel....and they don't like the idea.
Well, that is why Ms Lagarde in her first press conference here, talked a lot about ''fiscal responsibility'' (Read....you guys better not be corrupt). I think it is high time our leaders were realistic about that. Because...corruption is a ill wind that eventually hits the rich hard.
The rich and even the foreign investors would prosper far more in a corrupt free society. They jumped on the band wagon because they were determined to ensure the failure of the opposition. It did not matter to them that subsidy would help in the long run, now they have taken an idea that is not theirs, and made it into their own. I think this is pathetic! |

mrmetoo1: Errm APC wasn't formed in 2012. As far as the protest there's evidence even PDP youths participated. Audu of chocolate city shared a picture of him during the rally. This is not an excuse, APC chieftains e.g. Tinubu, were against the removal of subsidy in 2012. They sacrificed the good of the country for politics and gullible Nigerians joined them in their shameless campaign at Ojota, now they advocating it because their candidate is in power, what a shame! |

Kikero112: In 1986, when we were in the same situation we are in now....IMF/World Bank offered us a loan.
Nigeria then.....and we were not rich(we had debts to the max)....said no.
We then ended up taking the SAP alternative....plus devaluation in 1989.
What is needed now is an austerity government. And removal of subsides. Which is what MS Lagarde suggested....and which if we implement means that we do not need an IMF loan.
In other words ,if you actually read what Madame Lagarde said....if we want to avoid IMF loans....stop subsidies, end corruption, and increase funding from alternative sources of revenue....and we may just pass through this. In other words....austerity. And eventually....a plan to end our resource dependency.
One thing about the IMF....they ain't fond of giving African countries loans...because they know from past experience they will never see their money again Why did APC campaign against subsidy in 2012? Now they have decided to steal an idea which is not theirs and shamelessly make it their own. Only the masses will suffer under the hardship of austerity, the leaders who implement these policies never ever feel it. |

ShadowCabinetNG: APC AND POLITICAL INTOLERANCE.
It is on record that president Mumumadu Buhari rode to power on political tripod to fight corruption, insecurity and solve unemployment.
However, the way Buhari and the APC are going about the fight against hydra headed corruption is unbecoming.
History will not forget how Buhari's government removed corruption cases against Late Audu Abubakar and Timipre Sylva all in the name of making them their flag bearers in gubernatorial polls.
The arrest of the spokesman of PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh has removed every iota of doubt that the APC is just out to decimate and humiliate the opposition. Any government that hates criticism will remain enemy of the governed.
This agenda of turning Nigeria to one party nation cannot stand. You cannot force your choice on others.
While we stand against corruption, its one sided fight is a show of shame.
According to Mahatma Gandhi, there is a higher court than courts of justice and that is the court of conscience. It supersedes all other courts.
We hereby call on all lovers of Democracy and the international communities to come to the rescue of Nigeria's nascent democracy.
Shadow Cabinet of Nigeria You have said it all, but be careful, you do not know who is reading this, they have their eyes on anyone opposing them. |
