adeotun: Hi everyone! Good evening I'm Ade I have been following these forums and I really wish there was more detail with regards to work visas. I am a recent graduate but I am a seasoned programmer and I got a job as a software developer in Germany. My company is really awesome and there's an organization paid to handle their relocation processing but I'm still a little stumped here. At this stage in the process, my relocation buddy sent me a guideline for the motivation letter and I sent back my draft for her to go through. She's not satisfied lol can someone share the exact reason they put as their drive to work in Germany? I don't really see how I can link up Germany's strong economy with the software I build.
Here was part of her feedback this evening (it's not complete because I have rectified the other things she pointed out):
There are a couple of things that I would like to point out: - I also love the work/life balance in Germany, but I'm not sure whether this is something that you should point out as the main motivation for your relocation. I would rather point out an aspect in relation to the economy, the German IT sector, etc
I think you sold yourself and your qualifications really well but your motivation to work with ***** seems a bit too generic to me. We need to convince the officer also that ***** is the only fit for you so that there is no other option but you going to Germany. I dont remember spend time on the motivation letter. Maybe I was lucky but I wrote that letter a day to the interview see what i sent My name is ***, a graduate of Optometry from the University of Benin Nigeria. I was an eye doctor for a while before I made the switch to tech. Here are a few reasons that motivated that switch;
Firstly, I have always had a curious mind and tech has always fascinated me the most. Why did things work? How did they work? Are some of the questions that puzzled my young mind. This curiosity led me to google and that was the beginning of what would later lead to a career switch.
Secondly, although I was an eye doctor, I considered tech geeks to be extremely smart people and I wanted to feel that kind of smartness too. I began asking questions and finding answers on Google, Youtube and other online resources. It wasn’t long before I started to love tech with passion.
Finally, I see myself as a problem solver and I feel tech is the tool I need to solve some problems in the world.
In addition, I would love to continue my tech journey of solving problems in the Federal Republic of Germany. |

jkong: Lufthansa. It's more expensive but I wanted a direct flight to Germany and I didn't want to apply for a Transit Visa from the other Embassies But if you want to save some $ You can use Turkish airlines or British airways.
Just check if you need a Transit Visa I used KLM but I didn't need a transit visa. |

jkong: Guys I made it to Germany.
It's just over a week since I got here so I'm still settling in. The weather is nice and Warm, no complaints about that. The entire process took 1 month and 1 week after my Visa interview
And concerning the issue with my change of name (check page 59 and 60). It wasn't an issue. I asked the Embassy officer directly and he said it's not a problem as long as your academic documents BEAR THE SAME NAME AS YOUR PASSPORT.If your birth cert has a different name Just take the legal change of name document along with you. He looked at it but he said there's no need to submit it. NOTE: This is for work Visa. I don't think it applies to family reunion since your name is the only way of establishing the relationship.
Thanks for all the Info and encouragement guys! I don't have much experience with the system here but I'm open to other questions before the Visa i.e Application process, requirements, Travel Insurance etc What airline you used? |

nuel80: From my experience and that of persons I know, your passport is ready for collection, usually the embassy fix your visa to start counting on your travel date, so even if you get it now, you can’t travel until that day. Send them a reminder mail or call before 11:00AM on official days beatemp Guys.. My documents came today Visa is approved. Thanks so much nuel80 |

nuel80: If it’s more than 10 days since you submitted then your documents is either sent out via the courier envelope you dropped or waiting for you to pick up. Write the embassy to know about your documents, they will reply you. Send them a mail between 9:00AM and 11:00AM. They have never replied my mail nor answered my calls.. Is it a format to get to them? |

nuel80: Yes it’s only your departure date you need to give them, but your departure should be minimum 7 days from the day you would submit it. Hi Nuel, does the embassy reply mails? They have asked me to send a copy of my contract which I have done but I'm uncertain if it was recieved. Is there a dedicated mail and phone number to reach the embassy? The numbers on their website dont always go through have an idea? |

nuel80: If it’s convenient for you, you can drop it off yourself that’s if you reside in Lagos, otherwise, it’s also safe for you to post it to them, I strongly advice you use DHL or UPS so you can conveniently check to know when it has been delivered, and then you can write the embassy to inform them that it has been delivered with date and who name of who received it. Note: write your intended travel date on any available space on your travel health insurance but make it like 2 weeks ahead considering that they need minimum 7 days from the date your passport was delivered and also consider the days it would also take for the courier to deliver your passport. Then also look out for your passport as the embassy would also send it back to you via the courier envelope you submitted during your application. Congratulations I live in Lagos and have a car.. I cant really tell which is more convenient but thanks Congratulations ?? They never gimme visa yet na |

Thanks I figured I had my Passport with me How do I suggest I post it? Myself or via courier? |

tempuser2: I benefited from this thread a lot while trying to figure things out myself so, I decided I'd help with some info of my own.
I'm a software engineer and recently got an employment offer from a german company. I already knew the wait time for the appointment was insane so even before the interview process concluded, I was already looking for alternatives. I came across the fast track process for skilled workers during my search. https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/en/looking-for-foreign-professionals/targeted-recruitment/entering-working-in-germany/the-fast-track-procedure-for-skilled-workers/
Then when I got the employment offer, I informed the employer about the crazy wait times and the ability to fast track. Thankfully they were already aware of the fast track process so they were happy to go that route.
They requested that my degree certificate be certified and I did that at the Ministry of Foreign affairs in Abuja. After they had this and other documents (reference letter from past employers, passport data page, mawista health insurance), they applied for the pre-approval from their end. I can't say exactly how long this took because I don't know when they applied but, I sent the final document they needed on October 15, 2020. They also sent me a bunch of documents I had to sign and get back to them.
The company informed me they got the pre-approval on November 2, 2020 and I applied for an appointment same day using the WITH Approval link. I got a response for an appointment same day as well for November 20, 2020. Went for the appointment with all my documents and some extras that the company sent me to submit along.
At the appointment, I made a mistake by not photocopying the extra documents the company sent me. I assumed they'd take it as-is and tried to explain the company asked me to just submit this alongside the application. But the man that attended to me was very agitated by this because according to him, they're not "original documents" and I needed to have copies. It was all a lot of documents and making two copies of all made no sense to me (I didn't tell him this lol, I just stopped talking because he started saying I was arguing even though I was just trying to explain).
Long story short, I only gave him the documents I had copies for and he added those to a docket/file and gave me to take in. But I still went in with the other documents. At the appointment the lady asked questions about why you want to go, how you got the job, future plans etc. Then she specifically asked for a document which wasn't in the docket, she said if I had it, it would be an instant visa approval and she kept repeating the German name of the document. I looked for it in the documents the company sent and I found it thankfully, it was the Federal Employment Agency approval (not to be confused with Vorabzustimmung or the "pre-approval" ).
She also complained about me not having copies of that Federal Employment Agency approval document but she took it. I used the opportunity to submit some other documents the company sent that I thought would help, like university degree recognition stuff.
On November 25, I got the approval mail and was asked to submit health insurance plus travel dates. Submitted the documents by November 26. The consulate sent back my documents by December 2, 2020 but DHL delayed and I got it all by December 4, 2020. Hi, I am in the same dilemna.. Didnt know of the ridiculous wait time and my contract is supposed to start next month. I didn't study computer science in school too.... I got a software engineering job in Germany.. What's your advice for me? |

Richdad50:

A Fatal Attraction Why do you scam Nigerians of their hard earned money? Whenever someone engages you in your dishonest way to make money in an attempt to understand the rationale behind your schemes, he becomes the enemy. Your generation will pay for this evil you do. A child is in captivity and the best you could come up with is to exploit the situation to fill your pockets. Travelling up and down for fun in the guise of a campaign. Your son will be kidnapped by a deadlier sect and buhari's relative will exploit the opportunity as you have done to Leah. You shall reap this evil you have sown. |
